I LOVED this book! I don't usually write book reviews but this one was so inspiring I want to share it with the world and share my love of speech-language pathology along with it. I'm a second-year grad student in SLP and my mind was spinning with all the wonderful experiences and knowledge shares by the author. If you're curious about the profession, thinking of studying, know someone who is studying or working as an SLP, or an SLP needing fresh inspiration, this is the book!

This book is the best book ever. It took me a while to read only because I'm not used to reading books but I set my mind to finishing it last night and omg, it reminded me how much of a good book this is!! The stories told in this book are so educational and touching. You learn so much about speech pathology itself, how to be patient and loving with your patients, and you learn about how emotionally hard it is also. I love this book so so much.

If you are hesitating on getting this book, GET IT. Take it from someone who never reads and I LOVEDDD THIS BOOK.
Lauren also adds a BUNCH of resources for us at the end of the book. From podcasts with different topics (pediatric, dysphagia, etc) to scholarship info, CEUs info and MANY more!!

I’m an SLP grad student. This was really wonderful to read and motivate me why I love this field as I struggle through school! I also loved the variety of different settings of SLP, particularly medical, which most of us are less familiar with. All stories were interesting and made me feel connected to the patient, and some made me tear up out of joy or sorrow.

Huge respect for statements on neurodiversity and gender affirming voice, and resources for students in the back was a gem to come across. Loved it ❤️

Loved this book! Being a 1st year SLP Grad student, I found this book to be super insightful into everything we are capable of doing in the workforce. I wish some of the stories were longer because I was so into them and wanted to know more! I will definitely be rereading this book soon and would recommend to anyone already in the field, SLP students or anyone interested in speech pathology!

Amazing book. Reminds me of the The Moth books of short stories but for medical SLPs. I’m an SLP-to-be going into school-based services, but this was still such an interesting read and it solidified my knowledge about medical SLP that I’ve learned in class. Now I just need a pediatric/school-based version of this! Loved it.

I found this book so fascinating and loved hearing about the amazing stories of these SLP's! Unfortunately, I DNF'd at page 157 because after starting my Master of Speech Pathology, I quickly realised this career path wasn't for me and so I felt no need to continue reading.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in the field though!

As a current student applying for SLP grad school, I cannot recommend this book enough. It made me love this field even more and become more excited to start working in this field and the wide range of populations served!! I cried while reading this too, the stories were incredible
