As expected of crime/detective novel, I felt like I've aged a couple of years in just a few days because of the tension and stress. I loved that the mystery was there until the end, like you thought you knew something and believed it as the plot twist but then you realized the author is just playing with you, really good at subverting your expectations.
Just like the novel Criminal Psychology, the plot focused more on criminal profiling so there's a lot of human psychology involved. I always have this fascination with Criminal Mind-esque detective novel so this is really right up my alley.
Great use of the amnesia trope. Not usually a fan of that trope because it's usually used just to add some drama, just to squeeze something out for the story. But this one, the amnesia wasn't forced and it's actually fitting for the whole premise.
Loved both the MC and ML. Despite having a fragile body, MC is very resilient. He's sharp and clever when it comes to solving the case, his mind working tirelessly, but outside his work, he's just like a lazy cat. He's good at his job but not very good at anything else. Before meeting ML, no one even knows how he can survive his everyday life.
ML is just a perfect fit for him. Very attentive and caring, never ran out of spare attention to look out for MC. No matter how busy they are the whole day, he never skipped cooking dinner at night to feed his beloved 'lazy cat'. Even in the midst of discussing a case, when MC coughed, expect that a cup of warm water will be handed to him in a second. I loved that his act of serving him even before their relationship developed is already there. It's not even emphasized in narrative, it's just a single sentence, so subtle but done so smoothly.
With this kind of genre, slow burn romance is expected and I loved it. Though the progress of their relationship builds up slowly because of all the criminal cases they're handling, the chemistry between the MC and ML is there right from the start so there's no stagnant period in their relationship development. I have no problem with the pacing of both the plot and the romance.
Highly recommend this to readers who especially loved reading novels like Criminal Psychology, Silent Reading, SCI Mystery, Po Yun and Tun Hai.
captain Lu & professor su had the best chemistry ever, the cases were a bit predictable but each case was different and fun to read about, it dragged a little in between but the last few chapters made up for it..the extras about Yu Yan made me tear up and ofc it has close door romance ( the smut isn't explicit). if you love crime/thriller genre this is for you! there are so many interesting psychological topics discussed in this, it'll keep you on your toes.🍄🟫
“I'm willing to be your eyes and ears; in times of danger, I'll stand in front of you to protect you... For the rest of my life, I want to be with you, guarding by your side, and considering you my one and only. Will you marry me?”
I wish I could give this novel 10 stars..😭 everything was written so perfectly. The cases, the characters, the big mystery, and the unbearably SLOW romance..i loved it all.
I can’t wait to read the next novel in the series!! 🫶🏾
I really like this. The cases are a bit predictable but the main characters, Lu Junchi and Su Hui, are adorable together. Lu Junchi (gong) is sweet, protective and just amazing. Su Hui (shou) is stubborn, disabled but strong (also a bit suicidal)
However the translation is absolutely atrocious. The translator just decided to put their shitty opinions in the middle of the paragraphs instead at the end of the chapter. Why? Why would you do that as a translator? What a way to ruining the flow of the story.
This book has a very standard psychological mystery plot. Very predictable for the most part but enjoyable nonetheless. Each mystery is well setup. The main couple has a very well developed relationship, and they're adorable together. Very domestic. Great chemistry. Definitely recommend if you like a slowburn and the police officer + psychologist trope.
