One minute, I’m on my way to graduating, and the next, I find out my mother handed me over as collateral to a loan shark.
Now I’m standing inside a fancy hotel suite in a tiny little dress, auditioning to become an escort for Jasmine Black Incorporated.
That’s when I see him. God in a suit. Ocean-blue eyes. Dark, wavy hair. All sensual lines and hard masculinity. Nero Rotanev. He sets my blood on fire with a single glance. So when he asks if I will kneel for him, I eagerly agree.
Only something isn’t right here. I feel as though I’ve known him for eternity. Except that’s impossible, right?
Who are you really, Mister Rotanev? And why have you chosen me?
Nero Rotanev Mortals call me Poseidon. Neptune. God.
Kailiani was meant to call me her soul mate. Ah, but my darling little siren disappeared before I could claim her. And I’ve been hunting her ever since.
However, my scouts have finally found her in the Human Realm. Hiding among the mortals. How quaint.
That won’t stop me from destroying her. My sweet siren is going to crawl and beg for my mercy. Oh, but I can’t wait to watch her bleed.
Kailiani will pay for her sins. And the wrath of the seas will drown her for eternity.
Prepare to kneel, little one. For no one can outswim me. Not even a sweet little siren created by the stars.
Author’s Note: Rotanev is a 34k word standalone paranormal romance featuring a furious Poseidon and his runaway siren. It’s a contemporary tale twisted with mythology and dark fantasy undertones, and it's not related to any of Lexi's ongoing series. This is just for fun. A hot little novella to heat up your eReader.
USA Today Bestselling Author Lexi C. Foss loves to travel and write in supernatural worlds. Paranormal romance is her favorite genre, but she dabbles in contemporary romance when she needs a break from the darker side of her mind.
Coffee is her addiction, swimming is her passion, and she has a not-so-secret adoration for eclipse chasing.
Lexi can be found on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
This is a novella but it’s still a really decent length it’s set in a whole new universe and I’d love to explore more within this world in the future. Kailani finds herself auditioning for a job as a high-class escort to pay off the debts her mother has saddled her with. Nero is after his errant bride who absconded from his realm on the eve of their wedding century’s ago. When these two reconnect Liani has no memory of their shared past together and Nero here to seek his revenge swiftly realises that his obsession is actually no siren but now totally human. But she does carry the soul of one deep inside of herself. So what’s a god to do well he hires her private services to discover how this has happened and just what to do about it discovering in the process how wrong he has been in his hatred and blame.
Nero is an all-powerful possessive male whilst Liani is much softer delighting in bending to his commands. Despite this being instalove, I enjoyed it a lot and these two definitely had plenty of chemistry together. I also loved how Nero eventually accepted his returned love for herself allowing her the space to decide for herself. This was of course well written and there was also an intriguing story and not just heat it set up a nice balance between the two. I enjoyed this one a great deal. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Rotanev: A Standalone Poseidon Tale.
Short and steamy darker fantasy novella with Nero (Poseidon) and his Siren that got away from him. It is a tale of deception, lies, misunderstandings and revelations. Love the world that was built and we get a nice HFN ending. I'm hoping we will see more from this world from Foss in the future. I wish it had been longer!
"Swim fast, little one. For I'm coming for you, my darling Kailiani. And I'm bringing the wrath of the seas with me."
Wow, I have a lot of feelings about this one so please stick around for the full review.
First of all, I really enjoyed Rotanev but I would advise you to keep in mind that it is a dark romance. It is absolutely not a cutesy tale. There's a sub/ dom element which I'm fine with (heck, I'm more than fine with it) but there were times early on in the story where Nero wanted to cause Kailiani pain and I thought his dominance went too far. Nonetheless, I still really enjoyed this. I just think that some readers may find certain parts uncomfortable.
Although this is a short book, it doesn't feel overly short. I felt like I got a full story regardless of it being a novella. However, there could have been more to the plot. The plot was very relevant at the beginning of the book and the very end, but I almost forgot the context during the middle. I felt like the dynamic of the powerful, charismatic male and the submissive, passionate young female overshadowed the fact that this is the God Poseidon (Nero) and the woman who left him. I was also a bit taken aback by how quick the story was wrapped up. I wish that there had been more to overcoming the obstacle and concluding the tale. I'm a bit frustrated that the huge problem seemed to be solved in 10 pages.
Regardless, it is still a very good novella and I will be checking out more books by Lexi C. Foss. This is the first Poseidon re-telling that I have read so I can't tell you how accurate its representation is, but I can affirm that the chemistry between the main characters is hot AF 🔥🔥🔥
Sinfully seductive! An entrancing tale that sucked me in from that start. I loved the unique and mythical storyline! I really enjoyed the characters and hope the authors writes more from this new mythological world.
Rotanev is a wonderful story in a little package. I devoured this book in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it. The two main characters have wonderful chemistry. The story was original and the plot was fast paced. The mix of Greek myth and modern settings was fun. I also liked the side characters and would love to see this lead in to a full blown series.
Great novella with story and steam. No editing errors and awesome writing. This is my first book by this author and I’ll definitely be checking out more of her work. Highly recommend!
Nero was betrothed to Kailiani until she betrayed him. After centuries, he found her again but he didn't expect his siren to be a human without any recollection of her previous form. Human Kailiani needed money to pay the loan-shark her mother owed after she disappeared leaving her to pay her debts. So, she applied to an escort agency where she met that godlike man, Nero. They had a passionate time together where she lost her v-card. Then the secrets of the past revealed. At the end, Nico and his siren queen were finally together after all those betrayals and miscommunications.
It was a short and quick read. The passion and chemistry between Nero and Kailiani was hot. And that restaurant scene was super hawt. Whew! I loved it. But I kinda didn't like Nero as much as I expected to. Kailiani was okay. Nothing really special at all. It ruined the fun with the way Kailiani suffered. But the big revelation wasn't executed perfectly I guess. Something was missing. Anyway, the writing style was alright as well. Overall, it was just an okay read. By the way, loved the book cover.
Not quite 3 & 1/2 stars. While this was an intense dark "Greek God" Romantic Paranormal type fantasy, it had moments that fell kinda flat for me. The flow to the story is there, but in a very shallow way. This did not take big dives into a twisting plot to really get lost into, which is typical for a novella, which this definitely reads like a novella. I had hoped that having 154 pages (per Amazon), it would surpass the "novella" state of being, which most novellas are missing a lot of background, or character development, or being light on a developing plot. So this did have a little bit more for background than usual for a novella, but the character development was definitely short changed, and so was the plot depth & movement. There's definitely insta-love, which was a bit disappointing, since Kailani is in a human body with suppressed siren, so I would have thought it wouldn't translate to insta anything for her. Also, Corbin/Dolos/Loki (the bad-guy demigod) really didn't have a viable reason to take out his evil on Nero or Kailani in my mind, it just didn't sit well, even if I do chalk it up to him being Loki the trickster & not really needing a good reason per his mythological personality. Not sure I would want to re-read this, but it did pass a few entertaining hours for me.
“First, I must say that the format of this book was beautiful. The graphics were beautiful and so in touch with the story. That being said… OMG what an epic ride Nero and Kai’s story was!!! I’ve always love long lost soul mates stories and this one was perfect. Raw emotions and the intensity of the character’s personalities. Also, the combination of Gods and their mythology with modern day life was fantastic. The moment of the truth… was it a second chance or revenge? Sweet God Nero with his ‘written in the stars centuries ago’ lol. I can’t love more mating bonds even if try. But don’t let me fool you! This God is much darker than what I expected. *wink wink* bl00d… not telling more! The only thing I felt missing was more groveling. Sorry, but I love when men grovel and this God should have do it more but anyway, a story that deserves all the stars.”
Love love loved this book!! Whilst it is not the longest in length with only 138 pages, it has a clear and interesting plot line whilst still have some steamy sections. I have read a few of this authors books previously and she doesn’t disappoint. The book is so compelling for me that I’m dying for there to be a sequel to this book despite it being marketed as standalone. As I feel that the way the book has ended gives potential for a future book featuring Liani and Nero which could be set further into their future together where Liani could be considering finally joining her mind with her siren soul. Therefore I would definitely recommend this book to anyone considering buying it as for me personally it ticks all of the boxes.
The word "Nero" in Greek (Νερό) might be spelled exactly as the Latin/Roman name but it doesn't follow the same toning nor does it sound the same. "Nero" the name's tone is at the "Ne" part of the word while our word for water is toned at "rό". It is not used as a name and frankly, other than the fact that it sounds strange to foreigners, it sounds downright ridiculous to native speakers. I realise it was done to show some connection to the sea or water in general but it doesn't really work. And same goes for the overall mixing of different cultures which are used interchangeably, at times.
"Then prepare to scream, darling siren. Because I've longed to hear you sing my name from our bed" Nero was looking to even the score Punish the siren who left him standing high and dry at his own wedding - not a good look for a sea god He finally had her in his grasp and he intended to ensure she felt his wrath Oh, she was good - Playing the innocent game He almost believed her But he wouldn't fall for it a second time Time to pay up little siren
This was like an appetizer that served up a little of everything and left you sated but desiring so much more! More Mythios More Nero More Mesophtolis
A fast-paced fantasy novella packed with Sexy dominant gods Hot 🔥 as hades chemistry Vengeful lesser gods who are quite the tricksters 😏
Rotanev was a short, steamy, and fun read about the god Poseidon and his runaway siren bride, Kailiani. However, what he did not count on was her not remembering him...and being turned into a human. As he works to unravel the mystery surrounding his betrothed, she is trying to pay back the money her mother owed a savage loan shark any way she can, including selling her body to the beautiful and mysterious Rotanev.
While shorter in length, the characters were so memorable and ensconced in a thrilling and interesting plot. Such a fun read with a very surprising ending.
When Lexi said she had a different kind of story that was separate to her others, I was immediately intrigued especially when gods like the King of the Seas and different realms were mentioned❣️I really enjoyed this story and absolutely want to return to it when Lexi gets a chance as I can definitely see a whole world of stories starting with the mysterious Morpheus and catching up with Liani and Nero couldn’t hurt either😉
A definite must read🤩 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️
Although not as long as her other books, it’s still full of everything we love about this authors brain! You’ve got the heat, the anticipation, the tension, the originality! It’s all locked and loaded into one hell of a book.
I’d really like to see this as a series and the author has stated this may be the case in the future so fingers crossed she takes herself up on that!
Great story, great characters and great world-building! Highly recommend!
I loved this adaptation of Poseidon. Lexi really knows how to reel us in to these stories.
Nero finally finds his missing Queen, however what he finds is not what he was expecting.
Liani’s trying to make ends meet to pay off debts her mother left behind. Whilst trying to make the money she needs, she’s about to find out the truth of who she is….or more what she is.
Loved this story and that it’s left open to possibly more from the world.
Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please make this into a series and please let the next one be about Zeus or Posiden.. or Morheus. And please make it longer. Please redo this one so its longer. I need about 300 more pages please. Yes. This book needs to be about 500 pages in total. Please. Seriously. Please. This is not a review. This is a plea. Anyone that reads this book will understand why I'm begging. Lol
This story is so unique… Nero the king of the ocean and Kaliani his betrothed who disappeared many centuries ago before completing their vow. Nero searched in every realm and found her on earth as a human who has no memory of him. I loved how the story was written, the twist, the plot is amazing. I’m a bit disappointed as the ending was abrupt and hanging. Although they did get their HEA but I felt like it was cut short. I hope that the author will write a sequel to this book as its really very unique and interesting to read.
A novella that leaves me wanting oh so much more, while still delivering a complete story! How is that possible???
What a delicious take on Poseidon. Rotanev is absolutely yummy. Liani is strong and an amazing heroine to read about. She makes Rotanev question his motives and desire more in the best of ways. Their story is warm and explosive, and full of heat. I enjoyed their story immensely and hope the story continues again someday!
This was a quick read. It was also an excellent read. I loved the author’s interpretation of mythology. It had some twists and turns that I enjoyed and I really hope Lexi will do more in this realm. An update on Nero and his siren would be awesome too. I’m new to this author, but she is definitely becoming one of my favorites. Do yourself a favor and read this lovely little love story!!
Really enjoyed this book. It was a short read but really well done. I loved the way Lexi interpreted the mythology. There was a fast pace to this book but enough twists and turns to keep you hooked. Nero and Liani are great. This is a great little love story with an ending that was satisfying without being over the top. I hope we see more stories from this realm from this author. A future update from Nero and his Siren would be nice too.
Nice little quick read. Steamy level was appropriate for a Foss story. Characters were delicious and entertaining. I realize this is a novella so my complaints are moot and I won't list them. I will say 5 stars all around and if Lexi ever opens up her pages to Nero and Kilani again I will not be disappointed.
As always, with Lexi’s books, there were no grammatical errors that I found. I had to keep reminding myself this was a novella though, because I wanted so much more! Hopefully, she’ll revisit this world and give us more.
It was a steamy read, which I appreciated. If you’re looking for something quick and intriguing give god Nero a read!
I loved, loved this story......I thought "oh no" when it ended! There is so so much more to this story, this place, these people, etc.! I loved Nero and Kailiani, I feel like this was just the beginning of something greater! I'm a long time reader with no end in sight!
What a great interpretation of greek mythology. I am, like many others, sad that this was just a novella. I would really like if the author could start a series in this realm as well as continuing the story of Nero and Kailiani. It is a steamy read that you won't regret picking up. I can't wait to read more from this author.
