About the author

An avid reader of fantasy literature since age six, when she first made her way through The Lord of the Rings, Naomi Novik is also a history buff with a particular interest in the Napoleonic era and a fondness for the work of Patrick O’Brian and Jane Austen. She studied English literature at Brown University, and did graduate work in computer science at Columbia University before leaving to participate in the design and development of the computer game Neverwinter Nights: Shadow of Undrentide. Over the course of a brief winter sojourn spent working on the game in Edmonton, Canada (accompanied by a truly alarming coat that now lives brooding in the depths of her closet), she realized she preferred writing to programming, and on returning to New York, decided to try her hand at novels.

❄️ Spinning Silver ❄️

Stupendo.
Avevo letto Uprooted in passato, essendo stato pubblicato in un'edizione separata, quindi questa volta ho letto solo l'inedito Spinning Silver.
È una storia meravigliosa e molto immersiva: ha uno stile di scrittura che permette al lettore di immergersi completamente nella storia. Avevo letto un altro libro della stessa autrice (#Uprooted) che non mi ha fatto però la stessa impressione.
In questo libro mi sono immedesimata completamente nei personaggi, ho immaginato in modo estremamente vivido l'ambientazione e ho vissuto, toccato con mano la storia in prima persona ed è una cosa che non si vede proprio così tanto spesso.
I luoghi descritti sembrano quasi familiari; la situazione in cui versano i personaggi è comprensibile ed è facile provare empatia per loro.
La cosa che mi ha sorpreso di più? I POV dei personaggi.
Ci sono almeno sei punti di vista che ruotano e permettono di vedere la narrazione quasi a 360°. Ma non è questo che mi ha stupito, bensì lo stile di scrittura, che varia ed è unico per tutti i personaggi coinvolti: cambia in base al personaggio che parla e ho trovato questo molto più evidente rispetto a molti altri libri che ho letto. Credo che l'autrice abbia fatto proprio un ottimo lavoro.
La storia è abbastanza unica; ci sono più parti contrapposte che agiscono separatamente in modo coerente per poi intrecciarsi.
Quello che mi è rimasto più nel cuore, e la prima cosa che mi viene in mente quando penso a questo libro, è comunque l'ambientazione della terra degli Staryk, da amante delle stagioni fredde.
