This book includes excellent descriptions of a variety of herbs. Unfortunately, it also uses a great deal of terminology that should be defined for true beginners. What does it mean to water deeply vs watering 1 inch? How do I know if I've done either of those correctly? What does it mean to "amend the soil with compost or manure"? How do I amend? Do I sprinkle it on top? Do I mix it in? I guess what I really needed was herb gardening for dummies! I did get many useful tips from the book, but I still need to do more research. It would have been nice to have a glossary for some of these terms.
I am a beginner when it comes to growing my own herbs and using them. I actually bought this book on KU because it was free and after reading the first 10-12 pages, I decided to buy an actual copy! I'm pretty excited to see what all I can do with my little garden!
I've read a lot of herb gardening books this year since moving to a place with a garden, but this wasn't my favorite at all. I think I need something more with information about the herb itself, healing properties, and gardening than the recipes.
The author gives a guide for growing herbs for beginners. He gives examples of how to grow, use and store herbs. He is a great guide for Herb Gardner. I recommend this book for all gardeners.
A great guide to growing and using 40 different herbs. Even though I’d prefer actual photos of each herb, the drawings are good. Purchased this for our home gardening book shelf.
