The Randy Rhoads That I Stories from Bandmates, Family and Friends is just that, a set of interviews from those who surrounded him in the studio, at home and on the stage. These interviews first appeared in The Randy Rhoads Guitar Chat, available at Apple Books. The Randy Rhoads Guitar Chat was produced with the cooperation and support of the Rhoads family. If you knew of this young man in the 80s, you were very lucky.
This book is comprised of his family and friends telling stories about the kind of person he was.
The love for him jumps off the page as you read it. Ending with a rare interview of Randy himself.
As you might know, he died in a plane crash at the age of 25, which was described in the media as a joyride.
After reading and listening to other information about him, it didn't seem like it to me.
He was very young when he started Quiet Riot with his friends, and from there, he auditioned for Ozzy Osbournes' new band.
His whole life was music. His mother ran a music school where he was taught and eventually started giving guitar lessons.
Being a very gifted guitar player, he introduced some classical into his guitar playing.
In two years, he made two albums with Ozzy.
Diary of a madman and Blizzard of Oz. Randy wrote a lot of the riffs along with Ozzy, although it was never his type of music.
He didn't do drugs, hardly drank, and concentrated on his music most of the time.
The only thing in his system when he died was nicotine.
Anyway, this book isn't about that. It's about how talented he was as a musician.
In his interview, he talks in depth about his knowledge of music and how he wanted to go further.
He's still ranked one of the best guitarists of that time, and even now.
He had a close-knit family and friends. He wrote a song called Dee in honor of his mother, who started him on his path.
He had just started out and was so busy working and touring that he never met many other musicians.
In his interview, he wasn't that fond of the heavy metal scene.
He listened to blues and jazz at home and still wanted to teach music.
I was in highschool when I first heard Randy and I was blown away.
I only wish I saw him live.
Rest in peace Randy Rhoads. Your music will live on forever 🎵🎸.
