Heroes of the Undead #2

Anarchy: Heroes of the Undead

Rate this book
Having survived what felt like an impossible journey, Maddy Whitmore and Bryce Carter discover that there is no time to rest. Not only is New York still slated for nuclear annihilation, they are hounded by demons more horrible than anything they’ve yet encountered.
Virtual armies of undead, using a “collective mind”, lay siege to the Federal Building and the two are forced to their new and astounding limits just to survive. Yes, they’ve grown stronger and faster, but so have their opponents who will do anything to destroy them.
The only way to keep the building from being overrun is for Maddy and Bryce to lead the demon and its army away. They flee through the maze of tunnels beneath the city, where the demons soak up the darkness, swelling to great size. These fiends are otherworldly and so terribly foul that to look upon them will drive the weak insane.
And to make matters worse, the two are still New York’s only hope. The far-seeing Daniel Magnus has placed the lives of three million people on their shoulders. Supposedly, only they can stop the incoming nuclear missiles, which makes little sense since they barely survive trial after trial. Torn, bloody and exhausted, they have no choice but to go on and on…

Magnus' modifications to Maddy and Bryce's bodies have made them near superhuman.

The President has ordered the destruction of New Jersey by nuclear weapons. Maddy and Bryce have a short window of time to reverse the effects on the zombies and demons, to meet with the President and convince him to stop the nukes. The demons, especially the spider-looking dude with long legs and arms, were leading the zombies, controlling them, guiding them, aiming them at Bryce and Maddy knowing that only these two with their altered bodies and minds could stop their plans and convince the President. But before they can reach that point in time, they must try to save as many as possible. The nukes are coming!

This extraordinary character driven storyline is more action driven than character. I mean the characters are amazing and their abilities are superhuman, but the action drives this storyline from beginning to end. Frightening, terrifying action resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people and thousands of zombies. The zombies, whipped into a killing frenzy, mindlessly attacked without surcease, driving the heroes ever into danger. Death is visible and coming fast.

A storyline of blood and death, curls back on itself only to show more fighting, more blood and more death, seemingly without end. Maddy and Bryce are glued to the storyline so wherever the action is hottest and blood flows deepest, one or both are there guiding the action or being driven to it. Still adjusting to the changes Magnus made to their bodies and minds, our heroes stumble a bit, pick up and drive onward, always attached to the rolling, twisting storyline. Amazing action! Wonderful characters sacrificed for the greater good. Blood, gore and action rule this series. Love it! Can't wait for the next section!

It's the zombie apocalypse. I knew it going in, but dayum! The author is very good at drawing the reader in and making them get to know and even like his characters. And by the same token, he's not afraid to kill them off. This makes the story much more realistic, but it's also not for the faint at heart. This book is pretty much a nonstop rollercoaster ride to stop the president from dropping nuclear bombs onto overrun, but still very much populated cities. I loved seeing how Bryce and Maddy developed and I was satisfied when they had a moment to acknowledge their feelings for each other. My favorite character by far from either book is A. Yeoung. She was magnificent and she added some levity to the story. Considering the story ended in a cliffhanger from hell, I really can't wait to continue the story! I'm struggling to find a new read now, because I'm totally invested in this story! If you are a fan of horror stories with a pinch of the supernatural, or zompocalypse books in general, you will really like this book and it's predecessor, The Culling, as well. I highly recommend it!

Bryce and Maddy with a ragtag group of survivors have to battle hordes of the undead plus the demons that will make their goal of reaching the President to stop the nuclear bombs a horrifying task. Many are lost along the way and others battle even if their chance of survival is sure to fail. Do they reach the President and stop the bombs or does it end up a lost cause? You'll have to read this edge of your seat tale to find out. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Another excellent and exciting offering from one of my favorites

I feel almost as exhausted as the characters in this book. No rest for them and with the edge of your seat excitement, no rest for us. But I enjoyed every minute and then comes the end... Just have to say: the next book better come out soon!!!!!

Excellent better than the first book you really learn to love the characters and see them grow into their new powers. I have never read a zombie series quite like this the authors creative thinking in giving the main characters powers that are still growing and developing makes for a very entertaining read and I can't wait for the 3rd book to come.out

Different than any other zombie apocalypse scenario!

Just get this one if you love a good zombie apocalypse! The characters, the non stop crap your pants rush and struggle to survive makes it impossible to put down. The story line is phenomenal and so unique, and I have read hundreds and hundreds of zombie books so that's saying something! Well done!

Tons of action

I like this series. A different take on the typical zombie genre. Full of suspense and action, and keeps you up late to finish reading a chapter (or three). Well worth the read
