Eden I'm organizing New York's biggest charity event of the year. But when the keynote speaker drops out, the success of my business hangs in the balance.
There's one man who can help me. And no, I'm not above flying to the middle of nowhere to plead with the baseball legend in hiding.
All I need is a yes.
I didn't expect his hostility. I didn't expect a hurricane to trap me alone with him. And I didn't expect to find that he still owns my heart after all this time.
Chase I left New York two years ago with my life and superstar career in shambles. All I want is solitude and peace to heal and start a new business, a new life, a new me.
Then Eden shows up, asking for the impossible. If I could say yes, I would. She doesn't know the whole truth about my downfall. And I don't want her to know.
To save us both, I will have to remind her I'm the bastard who hurts the ones he loves.
Hey y'all! I'm Eliza and I write steamy, all the feels romance full of heart, heat, and humor. My heroes are swoony cinnamon rolls, my heroines are strong and audacious, and family is at the center of it all.
I'm a proud mom and a Southern girl who can bless a heart with the best of them. I live with my very own book boyfriend, a snoring dog, and a sassy cat.
In my downtime, I read all the panty-melting romances I can get my hands on, drink coffee by day, wine by night, and indulge my woo-woo side as often as possible. I'm also hopelessly addicted to tacos.
I dream of retiring to the beach someday where I'll continue writing sexy romance stories to my heart's content and taking sunrise and sunset walks in the sand, thinking of my next book!

I love my visits to the Cocky Hero Club because not only do I get some great reads, I also find some wonderful new authors to follow and Tormented Bastard is a perfect addition to this very exclusive club. I was captivated in Chase and Eden’s story from the first chapter to the last line. Eden and Chase have a history in fact she was the one that got away and he has never really gotten over her so when she comes to him needing help with a charity event he sees it as a way to find a way back into her life. Spending time together has Eden realising this man should still be part of her life and when they find themselves seeking shelter from the elements the enviable happens. Will the past stop this couple making a future ....... A great addition to the Cocky Hero Club, wonderful characters, sizzling chemistry and captivating story all make this a five star read.
5 star Review Tormented Bastard (Cocky Hero Club) by Eliza Peake
One of the great things about the Cocky Hero Club is that you often get a chance to discover new authors; such is the case with Eliza Peake. Although not a particularly long book Ms.Peake wove a story that had me hooked from the first chapter.
To Chase, Eden is the one who got away and he has never really gotten over her. When Eden comes to Chase for help with the charity event she is arranging, he sees an opportunity to get back into her life. The big question is should he? Eden is shocked when she realizes that she still has feelings for Chase.
Chase is stuck in the past and the events that have led to his current situation. When Eden turns up and is subsequently forced to seek shelter with him from the elements, will they both have a chance to come to terms with the past and in doing so forge a future together? Will Chase agree to speak at her event and in doing so save her business?
Eden's about to ask for help from the last person she ever wanted to see again, her ex, Chase. Back in the day, she chose to stay behind to care for her mother, and Chase let her get away as he went to chase his baseball dream. Now she's back, and forced to stay with him while a storm rages on outside. Will they discover their feelings for each other had never waned? Only had gotten stronger over the years? But is Chase the man Eden had always thought he was, or will the negative voices that have always been in his ear guide his behavior?
Chase has never gotten over Eden, the love of his life whom he let get away. Now that she's here in the flesh, he's not about to let her get away from him. For the duration of the storm at least. Because there is no forever with him. He doesn't deserve forever with the only woman he's ever loved. Or so he believes. If only he'd let Eden's love be his guide, rather than his deceased father....
Oh boy did I feel for Chase!! His backstory is heartbreaking. It hurt to read as he was hurting, even as he hurt Eden with his words and his actions, because he had always listened to the wrong people, believed them over the truth. But I loved his and Eden's story. Their chemistry is seriously intense and their second chance more than deserves its place in the Cocky Hero Club.

Well, just like “Wild North” I had other expectations for this story then what it was. Don’t misunderstand me, it’s predictable, but I overlocked the ex-part. I thought it was about two strangers locked up together 🤷🏻♀️ My bad.
The reason I tend to NOT pic second chance romance like these is that I tend to hate the characters, both h and H. Aaaand off course this one did not change my opinion 🥴 I absolutely hate it when people who are supposed to be together lives separate life’s for a long period of time. And I hate the hole married-with-kids-while-separated even more.
“Tormented Bastard” is about Eden who is about to loose her company “Perfect Planning”, and is in desperate need to find a new speaker to a fundraiser. There is one person who would be perfect, her ex and former major league baseball superstar, Chase Hanover.
He’s living on a island, and has left his former glory days behind. Why this couple ended their relationship, and who’s to blame is somewhat unclear but it supposed to be doubled-sided. Anyway, while Eden is there, the road closes and she has no other way then to stay at Chase’s house.
Chase is one of the biggest martyr ever. He felt so sorry for himself, I didn’t feel shit for this hero. I didn’t like him and therefor I couldn’t understand why the hell Eden couldn’t think straight and got all hot and bother by him.
”Just perfect for a bastard like me who wasn’t fit for love of any kind.” 🙄🤨 Poor you.
Chase is in love with Eden. He hasn’t forgotten about her! But he marries a woman ??? He knows that he doesn’t love her. Why?! I don’t understand why the hell Peake felt the need to put that shit in there. It would have been enough with a man that was sad because he had been forced to quit his livelihood. WHY the marriage?
”The woman who, no matter how hard I tried, never seemed to leave my thoughts for very long. Even when I had been married to another woman.” How romantic 🙄
And it is so very important for the reader to understand that Chase has had a very active sexlife all this time. It is mentioned that he had a wife. He had a friend-with-benefit (also totally unnecessary). The women that have seen his scare on the arm yada yada. There is no mentioning about Eden, other than that she is healthy enough to skip the condom. And Eden is suffering from betraying body syndrome, she can’t stop herself. Chase is that hot. Not nice. Not friendly. Bad history. But OMG, the man can make her panties wet.
”I want nothing more than to take you upstairs and fuck you until we can’t remember our names. But—” I laid my fingertips on his lips. “No buts.” I licked my parched lips, his eyes following the motion of my tongue. “I want that too, Chase.”
It’s predictable. You have probably read this storyline a thousand time before. The characters are forgettable and annoying. I didn’t root for this couple. They should have found happiness with other people.
- Cheating: Don’t think he cheated but there is other ways of breaking someone’s heart. In my opinion, he was a selfish/bad boyfriend already the first time.
”Fine. I was in love with her. But I fucked it up when I left. I got to the majors and I was a hot, young stud for them. It was good PR.” I shrugged, unable to voice the rest of it. Just the thought of how I acted brought shame.”
- OW/OM drama: Not this time. The H was married while they where separated. And is mentioned that the h was a BAD FRIEND for him then. Booo 😴😴😴
- Triggers: Annoying as f*ck.
- HEA

Tormented Bastard is a brilliant scorching heated 2nd chance romance that proves if you are meant to be together fate will find a way to bring you back together, even if it means drumming up one hell of a storm to do it.
Eden's business that she has worked so hard to build is about to go under if she can't find a famous guest speaker for an event she has coming up; her only choice is to find her ex-boyfriend and ex-top baseball player Chase Hanover. Easy said than done, as not once but twice they hadn't parted on the best of terms. But when Eden finds Chase things don't go quite according to plan. Chase has never forgotten Eden and the what-ifs, and what could have been, but life has moved on and Chase is stuck in the tragedy of the past.
As Eden and Chase, open up about the past and their feelings grow could be the second chance they both deserve, only problem is that they live in different parts of the country and Chase has no plans ever to return to NY.
Ever wonder what could have been? Ever think about the one who got away? What if you would have to put your big girl suit, leave your fears and bruised ego aside to save all you have built? That is exactly what Eden does when she goes looking for her ex, Chase "Hollywood" Hanover. She needs him to be the keynote speaker at a charity ball she is organizing. If she doesn't pull it through, she could lose her PR business, leaving 15 employees without work. Eden's plan is simple: find Chase, convince him to do the event, and go back to NYC.
Chase is content living on a secluded Florida island. He helps everyone, yet is the town's grumpy resident. A former baseball player, he prefers the quiet almost anonymous life he leads now. As he prepares to face a hurricane that is about to hit the island, the last he was expecting was to come face to face with the one who got away. Talk about an unexpected storm!
Eden has her work cut out for her, as she faces a very cocky and bitter Chase who refuses to help her. Her bad luck leaves her stranded on the island, as the bridge that connects it to the mainland is closed because of the storm. No inn will give her a room. Chase finally gives her a roof to stay and all he has been battling for years comes out. They have never stopped thinking about each other, and their combustible chemistry is stronger than ever. They come to a "just sex while there is a hurricane going on the agreement." But there is so much more to their actions.
Unpacked pasts lure old fears and never-healed wounds. This is where Eliza Peake's brilliance shines: she created a well-rounded story with outstanding character development. There is so much depth to this story, even when it takes place in a couple of days. Chase is swoony, and Eden's strength and ability to forgive are mindblowing. Plus, she managed to include Cocky Bastard's Chance and Aubrey in such a natural way that it almost feels like they had been written by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward.
So happy that I took a chance on this book because it led me to discover a new author whose writing is simply outstanding. Well done Eliza, well done!
4.5⭐️ I downloaded this on a whim and have zero regrets, I devoured it in one sitting. An amazing second chance, forced proximity romance that drags you right in getting you invested and feeling all the emotions that go along with Chase and Eden’s story.
Sometimes when reading a shorter story, I find we lose some of the storyline or character development however Eliza managed to absolutely deliver on this one! The characters were well developed and relatable, the banter was fun, the emotions and storyline, it was all really well done.
This was the first book I’ve read by the author but won’t be the last
Loved it! I couldn't, didn't, wouldn't, put my kindle down for too long!!
Second chance romances for me are more miss than hit. This book restores my faith in them. I just don't like being in the moment, the present and the flashbacks to the past. Tormented bastard (great book title!!) did it perfectly! No flashbacks, we learnt what happened through the present.
Love love loved Eden and Chase! What a couple! I was hooked.
Tormented Bastard by Eliza Peake is part of the cocky hero club. This is an easy, steamy, fast read. Chase and Eden are great characters. I also love the storyline. College sweethearts who go their separate ways but find each other again.
Eden is more than a little apprehensive having to meet with Chase after all these years to ask a favor, but she didn't anticipate still being so attracted to him. With more than her sanity in the balance, will she put business before their personal lives?
Chase has always thought of Eden as "The One". More recently, it's been more like "The One That Got Away", since she reappeared in his life and reminded him of all the reasons why it was a bad idea to let her go. But the favour she needs is too big, and his past is just too much. Will letting Eden go again be the closure he needs or will her absence torment him?
I liked Chase & Eden's story. Though guilt-ridden, Chase was a likeable hero. His backstory will make you feel for him on so many levels. Eden is also an admirable heroine. Though she knows visiting Chase would dredge up painful memories, she's determined to do the right - and best - thing, knowing that so many persons depended on her bringing him in as the keynote speaker for the charity event.
This second chance romance is a great addition to the Cocky Hero Club series, and I recommend it.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
I just love a good second chance love story! Chase and Eden have been apart for 8 years and a hurricane together makes them rekindle the love. I just loved Aubrey and Chance in there story and they are tied into this one also. Must read!
What can be more stressful than running your own business and about to make that business on top? Your biggest speaker not being able to attend. Now Eden has to figure out what to do in order to bring in someone big named before she loses everything she has worked so hard for. When the one name comes up she doesn't want to think about she knows she doesn't have any choice but to ask Chase for help. The problem with that she has to find him, take a walk down memory lane, and try not to fall for the handsome devil. Chase just wants to live his simple life after he lost everything he has ever known and loved. When one of these things comes back to his life he shuts it down real quick. But mother nature and nosey busybodies have other ideas. Chase and Eden need to work through what happened and see if they can get past it all. Will it be possible? And will Chase man up and help Eden so she doesn't lose it all?
Eden is organizing a huge charity event in NYC, and if things don't go well, she'll lose her job. Poor Eden, the keynote speaker dropped out & she has to come up with another celebrity or else. Luckily, she knows a former star baseball player who she shares a big past with, Chase, so off she goes to find him. Chase is a tortured soul man who wants to heal by himself so he's gone loner after he left his destroyed baseball career behind. Eden is the girl who got away so that's another regret of his, but when she comes asking him to help her out, he really wants to say yes however, he just can't. He has secrets that he doesn't want her to know about so he's not very nice to her, but mother nature has them stranded together for the near future. Can they face the past for a shot at the future they could finally have?! You know what to do to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
When Chase’s life imploded both personally and professionally he knew that the only way to save himself was to leave that life behind. He was content with the new life he created for himself far away from the limelight until Eden, his first love, tracks him down looking for a favor that he might not be able to give.
Eden is an event planner who finds herself in a dire situation when the speaker she planned for a charity event isn’t able to attend. She doesn’t have a lot of options so even though she and Chase didn’t end on the best of terms she is determined to convince him but she never expected the complications that would go along with it.
This is a story of two people who have always belonged together who allowed the demons of the past to draw a wedge between them. They must decide if the love they have is strong enough for them to fight for a future together.
Eden and Chase are each other’s “ the one that got away” He left the first time and she left the second time. Now Eden needs him to help save her business. Chase is full of guilt. His past mistakes haunt him and cause him to stay away from most people. His baseball career and reputation went up in flames. It would be a major sacrifice for him to come back into the limelight. He needs to decide if his love for Eden is enough. This story was a quick easy read full of chemistry and drama. Chase and Eden have you pulling for their HEA.
This is another wonderful addition to this awesome series and is Chase and Eden’s story. Eden is organising a charity event when the keynote speaker withdraws, leaving her in a quandary to find a replacement, and she approaches Chase who is a baseball legend, and he lives in peace and solitude when his life and career were in shambles. Chase and Eden have a history, and he takes the opportunity to get her back in his life. The chemistry between them is off the charts, and they are stuck together due to the elements changing and a hurricane hits them. This is a well written story which is a great 2nd chance romance story, which is emotionally charged, and is an entertaining and poignant love story. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I must say the Cocky Hero series never ceases to entertain me. I think I've read 4 out of I don't know how many tbh but I enjoyed all of them and I'm not usually the rom-com type as most of you will probably know.
Eden had to face the one who got away in order to save her business from going bankrupt when a storm hit and she got stuck with the last person she wanted to spend any more time with Chase.
In order for their happy end to happen they had to open up to one another and face their demons including things they were too ashamed to admit.
All the books from the series I've read so far are entertaining and fun to read. Perfect for a road trip or a day at the lake.
Another great addition to the Cocky Hero Club. A steamy second chance romance. Eden needs help and the only one who she can think to ask is the one person she doesn't want to see. Chase doesn't want to see or help Eden. They have a past and she's the one that got away. When a storm forces them to stay together, their old feelings come back and they can't deny the sizzling chemistry between them. Great characters and storyline full of emotion and hot chemistry.
I liked this second (third?) chance story between Eden and Chase. There was so much baggage that was behind their disgust with each other, but it only masking their real feelings. I loved that they had to ride out the storm of their past while riding out an actual storm. Loved this one!
Eden & Chase... I loved that these two meet up ago. Eden is such a strong woman and I loved that she sucked it up to get what she needed from Chase. These two have some amazing heated times together in so many ways. Loved this one!
Love again how we hear about other characters from the other books especially Aubrey and chance! Eden and chase have been struggle to go Their separate ways but something brings them back together ... fate ?? To rekindle their love form college. Great story
Eliza Peake is a new author to me and I couldn’t put this book down. The chemistry between Chase and Eden was off the charts. Their story was enjoyable and these characters made it easy to read. There were so many emotions throughout. This is a very well-written story.
Another new author for me. The story was so enjoyable and the characters were easy to read about. I loved that they managed to rekindle their love. This book gave me so many feelings through the words I felt like I was living their life with them. A very good story that I would definitely recommend.
I love second chances and Chase and Eden gave me exactly that and much more. The story grabbed me from the very beginning and didn't let me up until the end. I was captivated. The story is sweet, sexy, and with some past struggles to get through. A great addition to the Cocky Hero world.
I loved, loved, loved this book. What a great addition to the Cocky Hero series. The chemistry between Eden and Chase was off the charts. I had all the feels after reading this book. Well done.
You don’t want to miss Eliza Peake’s latest romp! Tormented Bastard fits perfectly as the title to this great read. You get all the feels in your heart and ALL the rest of your body!!
Eden & Chase… If you love second-chance, forced-close proximity, and steamy romance, this book is for you! This author knows how to hit me in all the feels with her stories, and this one did not disappoint. The fully fleshed out characters with history between them are “stuck” in a hurricane together, and the sexual tension is OFF THE CHARTS. I LOVE this author’s writing style and how she builds those moments leaving you pining and fanning your face for MORE! You will be rooting for Eden & Chase’s incredible HEA at the end. Oh, and the beach setting is perfect for a summer read by the water (minus the hurricane, of course!) Bravo Eliza!
ALL THE FEELS.... AMAZING!!! In order for Eden to keep her business from failing she needed to get her ex, Chase, to be a speaker at a charity event. Chase has his reasons for not wanting to be the speaker. After seeing Eden again and being stuck together due to a storm that keeps her on the Island, feelings they've had come back stronger than before. I felt their emotions so strongly. There were so many emotions throughout this book. I actually cried at one point. 😭 This book was so good. You won't be able to put it down. These characters have a chemistry like no other.. An amazing second chance romance.. This is a must read.
