"Crux of a whipscrew!" A chip of red coral found a gap between Claire's shield and work-shirt, and it stung like a bee. But that discomfort paled in comparison to the invisible sliver that steadily wormed its way into her mind. Her very own family and the Ghan elite were using her dearly departed sister as a vehicle to achieve global rule and facilitate a colonisation mission to a distant world. It pained her even more than her prosthesis. That her sister Mariot might still be alive fuelled her desire to use her affiliation with a resistance movement as a vehicle to redeem - if not rescue - her and bring down the reigning plutocracy. But the Ghans' and Graces' power, combined with the vicious clone Riot they animated, and some of the inhuman men they lorded over, represented a force that might only, at best, be circumvented.
I borrowed this book thanks to my Kindle Unlimited subscription and read it on my tablet using the Kindle App.
The first work of the author is an amazing piece of imagination that produces a great story of hardcore Sci-fi. Humanity has sent humans to colonize a new world after completely damaging the Earth. These colonists form a new society with the Gahn elite being composed of women at its peak, and men are part of a second stratum of the society. In almost three hundred pages, you will find a great work of worldbuilding with deep political plots.
By reading this book, you will sense the tremendous effort of the author in terms of documentation, something that adds credibility to a complex but well-executed story. Do you like your Sci-fi stories deep and slowly cooked? Then you will love this book as much as I did.

Edge O. Erin has written a must read that launches his readers into the future where we find that Earth is quickly becoming uninhabitable. As characters scramble to create a Plan B planet, others are honing their cloning skills to create a near perfect population. In the midst all of this is the crux; Claire must devise a plan with the help of husband, to free her sister who has been turned into a human science experiment. O. Erin masterfully takes you on a journey as his characters prove just how much they're willing to fight for the ones they love. LOVED this book!! Anastasia Gauthreaux, Wichita, KS.
Thank you, Edge O. Erin for the free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Note: My review is strictly for the book, and it is not affected by my friendship with the author.
I don’t read a lot of “Adult Books” because they usually tend to tell a lot of details in the beginning rather than to jump right into actions. I don’t find that bad at all. It is just not my cup of tea. However, when I sat down to read Legacy of Seconds, I found myself flying through the pages. The author’s voice is captivating, made me want to read more and more. The world-building was interesting and well-thought-out. Clearly, Edge made a lot of research before writing the book, which made it sound realistic. I found it very interesting to read about women leading and in power while men are second-class citizens!
Characters were well-formed and round. I liked most of them, and I will start with Claire. She wanted to free her sister “Mariot” from a human science experiment. So she joined the Men’s equality Movement, which I found really inspiring. Riot, on the other hand, I had mixed feelings regarding her. She was so horrible and annoying. Sex people to death? Not my favorite topic, but I could relate to where she came from and to her motives. Even though I was a little bit annoyed with her, I still enjoyed reading about her because the writing was that good.
Claire’s mom started to cry, and her father put his
hand on Mariot’s head, just on top of Claire’s. It was a relatively close thing, but not yet a family moment. Those days would come...
“YES,” I said before tears willed in my eyes for such a precious moment. A satisfying ending for a long enjoyable journey.
Overall, I recommend this book to everyone who likes sci-fi books, especially books that are realistic and give a glimpse of the future.
Legacy Of Seconds is a prequel to Terraform Charlie but you don't need to have read the prior to enjoy this novel. In this story, you will learn of events leading up to the departure to Prometer. The tale takes place in the far future on a planet Earth damaged beyond repair. At some point during the environmental and political struggles, women have taken the reins of power. The Ghans have become the Matriarchy and seemed to have followed the bourgeoisie path of the previous Patriarchy. This is a deep political sci-fi story reminiscent of the best historic court intrigues except the author has introduced clones into the royal family which only adds to the prodigious plot and delightfully huge cast of characters. In a somewhat cold and authoritarian future, the author still manages some human warmth to give us hope. Edge O. Erin always does his research and it adds a sense of authenticity to his futuristic vision of clones, nanobots, and technology. Legacy Of Seconds is dense in its ideas and cast of characters. it is the kind of book I will enjoy rereading knowing I will find some new insights with each return. I loved the "tackle box of nanobots"!! it is my hope that one day Edge O. Erin will write about the downfall of Earth and the rise of the Ghans.
"Subsurface History of Humanity: Direction of History" by Victor Torvich is a book that explores the story of humans from a long time ago until now, and even thinks about what might happen in the future. Torvich looks at things differently than most history books. He believes there's a hidden pattern to how humans have changed over time.
The book is split into seven parts. It starts by talking about how long humans have been around and why it's important to look at history in a new way. Torvich then talks about how humans have developed over time and what's driving this change.
One big idea in the book is that humans are getting better and better at making things and coming up with new ideas. Torvich talks about how things like transportation, communication, and technology have made humans progress even faster.
Towards the end, Torvich talks about the really fast changes happening now because of things like computers and robots. He thinks about what this might mean for the future of humanity.
Overall, "Subsurface History of Humanity: Direction of History" is a book that makes you think differently about history. It's a good read for anyone curious about how humans have changed over time and where we might be headed.
