“I was the butterfly. And my wings were never perfect. They frayed with a jagged edge dusted with bitterness to…save me.”

WoW..this is one of "What the F**k did I just Read?" books.🤯🤯🤯
Long story short ,without major spoilers ,this is about fucked up/on drugs/psychopathic and with a splash of sonophobia (Alice in Wonderland) Ellison .
If you are triggered by foul language ,lots of sex, multiple partners , murder , messed up situations , light BDSM then this is definitely not for you.

Moving on....I m a virgin on this author's work and I must say I m quite impressed by how fast I "fell down the rabbit hole". I liked this book, no! I actually loved this insane retelling.
I thought I knew the story but..boy was I wrong?!! The journey was madness (exactly like the title) and I savored every second of it, tho I have to admit it was a bit difficult at times to keep up with all the names of the Merrymens and the rest of the "population" .

“You never know when you’re going to be swept of your feet. The greatest joy in living is not knowing the end.The journey is worth the price. Love is worth the risk. You must be willing to take it.”

The only problem I had with this book was the "romance" side (if I can even say "romance" in a story like this🤔😐), I didn't felt much connection between the MCs , yes, it was passion, craziness, take whatever you want and give freely ..but that was about it imo.

Interesting and entertaining read and I have to keep an eye on Kailee Reese Samuels from now on😉

**On an different note, somehow this book reminds me very much of a movie called -Sucker Punch - so I think is worth watching for the ones who loved this book.**

"Do what makes you happy."

OH LA LA!!! Where I am concerned, it's not a case of "Poof. Gone " , but rather "Boom. Mind blown."

Madness is just that. Pure Madness, genius insanity, beautiful craziness. An onitlric experience for the senses. Every element in this story screams pure perfection.
Part of the Sinister Fairytale collection, this trip into the Darklands is definitely sinister, and cleverly explores the fairytale genre.

The vivid imagery of this retelling of Alice In Wonderland takes us deep into Ellison's broken psyche. The author brilliantly captured the Alice atmosphere through a psychological journey of growth. Lys meets the strangest creatures and the most incredible characters. The scenes blur into each other, bounce, fade, swirl. Twisted dreams morph into vicious nightmares, themselves turning into panty-melting fantasies.
"Down. Down. Down I go."
The incessant movement creates a deliciously dizzying sensation.

I laughed, I screamed, I wondered, I fanned myself thanks to a storytelling that grew to a crescendo of emotions.
Read, thoroughly savor each word, you'll see the precision of Mrs Samuels' universe.

You don't have to be familiar with the author's previous work but if you are, I promise the ride will take another dimension. An any case, it is one tale that will make you long for more.
I am "Sovery" elated...Happy reading!

This book is just like the title MADNESS!!! This is a first retelling of Alice in Wonderland that I have read and maybe that is where I kinda got thrown off course. I loved loved loved the parts I could grasp and dang there were some really hot, fan your face times. I will probably have to go back and read this again at my pace so maybe I catch things I missed because I have questions. The writing and the story were great and I was really into it. I could picture the scenes in my head, you have to have an imagination for this book. I know I am rambling but that is what reading one of Kailee's books will do to you ... so good!!!

Madness by Kailee Reese Samuels
Genre: Dark Romance
NARRATION: Dual POV
BOOK DETAILS: Standalone -Part of the Sinister Fairy tales Collection

MY REVIEW
Madness is a unique twist on Alice in Wonderland fairytale. Kailee spins this tale in a very cleverly dark and fabulously frightening way. This is a first read for me with this author and I was impressed, she has a singular way with her wording that kept the story flowing smoothly.
This is a deep dark romance story with phycological, and fantasy aspects woven throughout. Some of the content is enough to give you nightmares, whilst the hot and heavy scenes will have you fanning your face.
This is a quick dark and disturbing read that is sure to please lovers of this genre.

Step into the madness... leave your sense at the door and be enveloped by your sensory journey... down, down, down you must go because only then you’ll find the madness that will give you light and boom, poof, you’re not the same person anymore. You’re new, reborn and finally free...

I won't lie, I was so excited about this book. Having read some other books in the collection, I was really looking forward to this retelling as it is one of my favorite classics. Oh boy was I let down. I'm not trying to be harsh, but it is such a confusing book to read. I get the premise, but when you have to go back several pages and slowing reread pages a couple times for fear you missed a key element of dialogue or change in scenery, you should know that the crazy is too CRAZY. It doesn't compute. For example, one minute Lys is at her sister's after being released and there is a party and the next minute they're walking through the woods talking about their parents wealth and doing homework by a steam. At the being it's stated that her father wanted to leave before her mother took their only car. If they have wealth, why do they only have one car?? She was released from juvie, so why are they doing homework?? I was so confused and at this point it was only like 30 pages in.
It started out so promising and then it was like dream, wake, nightmare, past, present, make-believe, all streamed together for Lyssa in some kind of psychotic break. Only you, as the reader, had no idea but were pulled along with no idea what was going on, though you kept feeling like you were missing something. It really was maddening and not in a good way.
I don't know if it was because I got an ARC copy, but the typos and grammatical errors were also enough to drive me batty.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Curioser and curioser indeed

This is a retelling of Alice in Wonderland and boy do you descend into Madness as you fall down the rabbit hole. It's just as odd as the original both in the characters who inhabit it's pages and in the reality of what is happening. At times is was somewhat esoteric, though still utterly captivating and enthralling.

It's an RH and whilst I could see the chemistry between the different characters, I didn't feel an emotional investment in them. This was more due to the style of the book, where the prose was often reminiscent of what I imagine a drug induced psychodelic trip would be like. That is an intentional move by the author, a very successful attempt to mimic the original story whilst also making it a very dark, steamy, adult version of Alice in Wonderland.

It's a strange read where I sort of knew what was happening but didn't really know. Even at the end, where many things are revealed and resolved, there is still an element of the unknown, an option to intepret as you please. A different read, dare I say a mind-blowing read? A great addition to the series.

Madness was gifted to me for an honest review. I thought I had out grown fairytales, since I have been ARC reading the Sinister Fairytale Collection I am blown away. Kailee Reese Samuels weaved a beautifully rich and improved Alice in Wonderland story. But it also part Daisy Six and hot sexy times combined to give Alice the literal trip of a life time. I was hooked from page one.

Lys the main character is this pyscho/ emu/ brazen chick that will consume you. Once you think you have figured her out, your wrong because its at that point, when Lys becomes Ellison you then realize you are in a dream space. I don't want to give any spoilers. This book was hot, intense and really fun to read.

Get this one. Chase down the rabbit hole, you will survive.

Probably more like 2.5.

This sort of saved itself eventually, as it came together (partly at least) to be about saving her fractured psyche.

This is sort of an Alice retelling. We have a vague blue dress, falling down a hole, a rabbit and sort of tweedle dumb and tweedle dree, but there's like 7 of them and they all have a Mistress. But it all came a across as a bit shallow.

I could deal with the meandering narrative and pointlessly erudite language in places, because it is an Alice retelling after all, and you expect these things. What I couldn't really get over was the complete lack of any real characterisation and the lack of character development or any really meaningful relationship development. Ellison just sort of flitted about, having sex with random merry men and sort of getting attached to one in particular, although I'm not really sure of the reason.

This was sort of a Reverse Harem, in that there's multiple guys, but she seems to barely know some of them and theyre just sort of randomly there.

I guess this book was just odd (and not in a good way) and everything was too underdeveloped for me to really enjoy it.

***5 ‘Use Caution When Approaching’ Stars***

Madness is definitely the name of the game here because even though I devoured this book and fully comprehended all that it threw at me, I’m still in total ‘WTF did I just read’ mode where I’m trying to get the wonky going on in my head to chill the fuck out so I can attempt to do a review that is just this side of verbal vomit and In all honesty I probably shouldn’t be typing away, but I am, so here goes nothing….

As with any Alice re-telling, one expects crazy, and I’ve read my fair share of them lately but this one goes beyond anything I’ve read to date. It’s dark, it’s gritty and it’s disturbing, but it has its ‘moments’. Those strangely sweet moments that have your heart melting even with all the chaos going. And it has those smexy ones that just kind of happen. And this mix absolutely captivated me. I couldn’t stop reading. I was so caught up in my need to make sense of what “Alice”’s madness was, why it was happening and see her find her way through it because she was a lot stronger than she gave herself credit for.

I know that this review is all kinds of verbal vomit vagueness, but it has to be because to do anymore would ruin the ride and I’d be babbling even more. So for your sake and mine, this is a short and sweet one. As for the author. This is my first time reading here and I thoroughly enjoy myself. She was able to give me the crazy that is “Alice” (actually more than) and have it all make sense in the end, which, when it comes to this world, is all you can ask for.

"Don't fall prey to the imps inside of your pretty skull. "

**Note: This book is categorized on Amazon as Dark Fantasy Horror. It would be a mistake to go into it looking for a HEA romance. It never claimed to be such.**

"So much noise... So much noise… clocks ticking… cards flying…"

With that out of the way... My first statement would be to look before you jump. Never, EVER has that applied more to a KRS book than here. As has been noted repeatedly, the title was absolutely straightforward for a rare change. Here lies Madness, in its most clinical sense. With that being said, the meat of the story is a, true to the original text, retelling of the Lewis Carroll favorite, Alice in Wonderland. There are only a handful of finer details that weren't referenced or represented. I won't (and they certainly won't) spoil anyone's experience though.

Onto the fangirling 😉 With all due eloquence, WOW, WOW, WOW. I'll be totally frank and say that this is not at ALL what I was anticipating from a Samuels approach. That detracted not a bit from my immersion and dare I say...addiction? I DID want more. Is that not often the case with this author though? For the #Ranierofangirls out there, this one is a bit of a "spot the Sugargrove character". That adds a bit of fun too 😘

“Go back to the fairytale…”
“Go back to the fairytale…”
“Go back to the fairytale…”

There isn't MUCH I can say about the plot if I'm brutally honest. Spoilers will be REAL damned hard to make sense of 😆 Is it DARK, TWISTED, TOTALLY F*UCKED UP, HOTTER THAN HADES??? Oh yes, yes indeed 😈

You've GOT to read this one for yourself. In more than one sense. NO one could properly explain it to you. Additionally, it's a phenomenal edition to the Sinister Fairytales Collection. The prose is out of this world. The opening poem (somewhere between a ballad and a sestina, forgive my ignorance here) is the perfect drumroll.

To you, the brave reader, I say hold the hell onto your seat and just enjoy it. Stop trying to make sense of Madness when indeed, there is little to be found.

What a unique, dark twist on Alice in Wonderland! Ellison is one strong girl but very dark and intense. Ellison has murder on her hands but now years later back in society and following a man down a hole into a whole new world that Ellison will not give up being the Queen. So much going on it’s one of those books ya have to pay real attention to and figure out things as things go on! I loved it! Definitely a must read for dark romance fans! 5/5 stars

“I was the butterfly. And my wings were never perfect. They frayed with a jagged edge dusted with bitterness to… save me.”

The first thing I want to say is I am so getting this quote as a tattoo... The second is do not go into this story thinking it is a love story full of romance. It is not. If you have never read a KRS book this probably shouldn't be the first one you read since even for her this one is out there. I am a huge fan of hers and even this one gave me a trip...

Madness brings you to Alice and Wonderland on drugs. If for any reason you didn't think Alice was a safe fairytale well it is not now. KRS is brilliant in this out of body experience fairytale.

Madness is a great addition to the Sinister Collections

This is what happens when you fall down the rabbit hole and it takes a dark twist.

This is not my first retelling of Alice but definitely the most messed up. Kailee's version had that surreal, not quite sober, feel like the original story. It was told in that same poetic nature and featured some of the same unique characters. It also had this dark and demon-like quality along with some serious heat.

A good addition to this series of fairytales and a story I actually didn't expect. Kailee made similar yet wildly different characters. It really was pure madness. It made me feel like I was in another dimension right along with the characters, it was just a real wildly dark and crazy story.

This is a wow book for me. I absolutely love the books in the sinister series so far and this one blows all the others out of the water. This is a dark retelling of Alice in Wonderland. But I have to say that this one is full of fantasy, psychology and romance with so much of each. This is one of the most dark and twisted, tragic version of Alice in Wonderland I have ever read. There are so many different twists in this book. Sometimes I wondered what I was reading. Where the author was taking the characters next in the storyline. But what a ride you are taken on when you read this one. It will play a cruel game with your mind while you try to keep up with the characters and their feelings and actions.
This is the heartbreaking story of Ellison. A girl who has a tortured heart, memories she doesn't want to ever remember and a mind so broken that no one can glue it back together. You are taken into the chaos that is her mind and taken for a ride. There are so many different things in this storyline that will hook you and suck you right in. The Darkland with the seductive Mistress, the sexy charming deviant Merryman, the unhinged Queen and the villainous Sisyphus.
Kailee will take you down the rabbit hole on a twisted demented ride that will have you questioning what is real and what isn't? You will never see Alice in Wonderland the same after reading this version. I know I wont. I loved it. A great addition to this series. You can't go wrong reading this one.

“So much noise...
So much noise... clocks ticking... cards flying... so much noise.”

Fall down the rabbit hole and embrace the madness in this reverse harem retelling of Alice In Wonderland. Part of the Sinister Fairytale Collection this is a novella that will bend your mind and take you on a wild ride. Reality and imaginary blend into one as her present is merged with the past, escaping the painful truth with an alternative that is just as cruel. Her fractured psyche is desperately trying to come to terms with her nature and everything that has unfolded because of her actions and thus The Darklands were born. Fragility and strength interwoven to make her a survivor of many horrors this is a fascinating read that left me desperate for more. I loved the riddles, the embedded clues and the duality of the story.

A four and a half star “We’re going to be late!” read.

Buckle up and hold on tight for this wild naughty ride. The title of this book couldn't fit this story any better. An incredibly naughty retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Join Ellison on a journey through her own mind to find who she truly is. She learns the truth about herself, and her past. This is a fast paced, wild, and maddening tale. Incredibly fun to read. While, I frequently felt confused and wondered WTF is going on I walked away from this book feeling content. I enjoyed the crazy way Ellison found the truth of herself. Glad I read this book.

Ellison is a young girl with a messed up life. She retreats into a dark fantasy world much like the tale of Alice in Wonderland but much dirtier and way more screwed up. Real life is even messier and the people you should be able to trust will betray you in the worst way. A dark, sinister story about abuse, stolen childhood and learning to deal with trauma.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review or Stephanie's Book Reports.

As a starry-eyed child, I wanted to believe my shining prince would ride up on a white horse, present a diamond ring, and carry me away to his castle. His love would be endless and our lives would be the happily ever after all girl dreamed about. I never knew the fairytale was nothing more than a lie. I was a good girl. This is one of the book in the Sinister Fairytale Collection. This is a dark retelling of Alice in Wonderland. It is recommended that you read the books in order in order to have all your questions answered from all the book. However I guess you could read it as a standalone, but I am loving discovering new things that go along with the other books in each new one that comes out. I will warn you to that this one is dark and gritty and may have triggers for some people. You are about to descend into Madness for sure. If you have read Alice In Wonderland then you know that some of the characters are super strange and that follows through in this book as well. There are some odd character's for sure. This too is a reverse harem book so those usually get interesting really quickly and this one does do. However I felt like I was missing an emotional investment in a lot of these characters and that bothered me some. I think for a reverse harem you have to have some investment in the characters. I will also say that I felt like, and I am sure it was written this way, but you feel like you are one a trip, a mind trip that is. Like if you were on something kind of trip. That was different too. However with all that said it is a really good book and addition to the collection. You get a lot of answers in the end but are still left with something unsettled and that is why I feel like it is better to read these as a collection in order and not try to read one single book and still be left with questions you never get answered if you do not continue the collection of tales.

Kailee Reese Samuels is a brand new author for me.
&I am finding that this Sinister Fairy Tale Collection is really opening my eyes and bringing new and amazing authors into my life.
Madness, is a retelling of Alice in Wonderland.
It is seriously a hard story to really explain. You feel like you are on some sort of trip....almost like something someone would experience on an acid trip.
Kailee does an amazing job bringing dark and sinister alive in this retelling, and included a reverse harem, which is one of my favorite relationships to read about.
This is one of those books that you just don't want to give anything away about.
This is one of the those reviews that is going to tell you, go into this book without knowing anything. Take it on with a free and clear mind....and get lost in its..Madness.
Kailee constructed such an intriguing and addicting story that I could barely put down. At one point I took the dog outside, put her on her long leash, and just sat and read in the quiet, because I just needed that peace to be able to focus and take this whole story in.
It really was THAT good. This story has quickly made its way onto the very small list of books that I would reread...and that is a VERY rare trait when it comes to me and the stories I read.
If you are a fan and have been following the Sinister Fairy Tale Collection, I definitely advise that you continue with that streak, and read Madness.
&For those of you that haven't been actively involved in following the collection, that is okay, because this story is a standalone, and you should still dive in and give it the chance that it deserves. I do not think that anyone will find themselves disappointed.
This is one of those books that you pick up, start reading, and get so lost in the story that you are unable to put it down until you hit 100%.
So, give it a chance, give it a try. You are going to love the uniqueness of this Alice in Wonderland retelling!

Kailee Reese Samuels is a new to me author and what's better than to experience a new author than to experience them for the first time in the darkest of elements. This is the moment when all the cards are dealt and all bets are placed on the table. This is the make it or break it point.

Madness is an incredibly sinister tale that dives into the 'retelling' world of Alice in Wonderland. Alice in Wonderland was always a fairy tale I set on the back burner. In fact, until a few years ago, I was never interested in reading the tale. There was only one character that really caught my interest, that character being the Mad Hatter.

I really enjoyed the first part of this twisted tale. Kailee Reese Samuels definitely shined a darker light on the tale and had me invested.

..However..

I was quickly lost within the story. It led me straight into a wormhole full of characters all fighting and yelling over one another to be heard. Often at times I felt Ellison's character was being overshadowed by all the noise of the other characters. The Madness was out of control. In a way, it fit the story perfectly, but I wanted more from Ellison's character.

I liked Madness, but sadly, it wasn't a love for me.

How do I start this review? Where do I actually begin to relate this rather wondrous and fascinating tale? First, let me say that as you go further and further into the story, you realize that you are in a dreamscape. A dreamscape so perfectly created, so beautifully rendered, that you have the actual experience of a dream. I’ve read books depicting dreams, altered reality, in the past. But I’ve never experienced anything close to where this book took me.

It’s not a typical romance. It’s more of an erotic adventure into an alternate state of consciousness. Geez, Kailee, did you feel like you were dreaming when you wrote it? You had to.

Kailee Reese Samuels is probably one of most gifted writers I’ve read in recent years. She paints tapestries with words. She creates worlds that possess both darkness and light. Her characters hold you firm in either love or hate, there’s no such thing as disinterest in her writing.

This is an amazing piece of literature. When I realized what was actually happening in this story, I got teary eyed, and trust me, I’m a tough nut to flipping crack. I know I’m involved in a story when I say things aloud, and I made audible statements many times in this reading. My family would ask me what the heck I was reading when they would hear me speak while reading.

Are you looking for something unique? Something that will pull all your emotions to the surface? Well, look no further. You just found it. Highly recommended.

I am trying to gather my scattered thoughts after reading Madness by Kailee Reese Samuels. The author played with dystopia, fantasy, psychology and romance with so much each. This is probably one of the most twisted, dark, deviant and tragic version of Alice In the Wonderland ever written. Half of the times I was wondering if I am losing my own mind. Because the twists, the shuffling and the sharp change from dream to reality were playing cruel games with my mind.

This is the heartbreaking story of Lys or Ellison. A girl with tortured heart, traumatic memories and a mind broken into pieces that no one can glue back together. And the author will take you to into the chaos of her mind. The lines of reality and dream will blur. I was amazed by her imagination and innovation. The Darkland with the seductive Mistress, the sexy charming deviant dangerous Merrymen , the unhinged Queen, villainous Sisyphus and every exotic thing will suck you right in. It is a battlefield is her heart which takes her to dirty, filthy, heart stopping, angsty and liberating adventures.

What the actual F did I just read!?!?!

I honestly believe that Kailee Reese Samuels is either a connoisseur of hallucinogens or bat shit crazy! Because even a twisted mind would have had trouble conjuring up the chaos she has. Ellison would terrify even the most staunch Alices of this world or any for that matter!

I almost feel like I have yet to leave the rabbit hole. I'm bordering on disbelief and sheer amazement at the tangled web Samuel's weaves. I'm also ridiculously jealous of Ellison's magic mystery tour...well, some of it. I would love to be Merry. (Smirks wickedly)

I would love to be filled with merry, truly certain all would be bright eyed and bushy tailed after that experience. However, I can honestly say the decent into Madness is not one to be taken lightly. You never know who will come out and play.

I am always up for an Alice in Wonderland retelling and Madness is straight up crazy!

Crazy Good
Crazy Weird
Crazy Confusing
Crazy Hot
Crazy, Crazy, Crazy!!!!

The majority of the book is trying to figure out what in the world is happening with some crazy hot scenes taking place. The whole thing is Madness and named extremely well!

All in all, if you are looking for a bit of madness with super hot scenes and an interesting story, this book will definitely be your jam! 4 outta 5 stars from me and looking forward to more books in the Sinister Fairy Tale world!

PS: Thank you to Kailee Reese Samuels and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

Do what makes you happy.

Logic doesn’t get a vote because madness infects those in love.

Madness is just that. Pure and simple, I feel as though I fell down the rabbit hole and have yet to find my way out. I have been thinking about this book for DAYS and still do not have words.....

So much noise... so much noise... clocks ticking... cards flying...

I can not explain this one dear reader, you will just have to hang on tight and jump in with both feet!
True to the style of KRS it’s hotter than hell, beautiful, dark, twisted with a side of WTF did I just read!?

You’re an innocent victimized by circumstance and a survivor by choice.

It’s not safe here in the underground, but I’m safe with him. And that matters.
It is everything.
