I worship everyone who reads one of my books, whether they enjoy it or not, and firmly believe they should all wear a crown.
I just finished this book 10 minutes ago and I'm still staring at the wall trying to process what I've read. I mean... I don't know... I want to... What the fuck did I just read???
I chuckle and smirk like the devil, stealing an angel.
Alright, let's do this. I'm pretty sure I'm enough sane to come up with something coherent now... or not? Anyway, I needed some time to process everything that was going on in this book and to decide about the rating. So, this book... It totally blew my mind. It was really fucked up but actually not exactly darker than I'm used to. It was just that it took me by surprise. I mean, I know this book comes with a warning, yeah ok, but look at the cover and the title and the blurb - looks innocent enough. NOT haha. Even the beginning is like some kind of new adult romance and then shit just goes down. And keep going. It's an understatement if I say that I as hell wasn't prepared for that. Nothing is as it seems in this story. No fucked up cult or some shit like that, no obvious villains. The brilliance of this book is that the evilness just creeps on you when you least expect it. People that seem good are bad, the ones that seem bad are good, everyone is somewhere in the middle in the shades of grey (I fucking hate that a ceratin book made words shade and grey so repulsive now, anyway...) the whole story played with my mind. And don't get me started on all the bad things that happen. I thought we would get some reprieve from time to time but not, this story just doesn't let you breathe. It's from one disaster to another and it was all so overwhelming.
The hero and heroine of the book, or should I say anti-heroes more likely, I don't know what exactly to think about them. For half of the book, I wanted to reach inside and hug the shit outta them and for the other half I so wanted to slap them senseless because for the love of God how can two persons be so stupid. For fuck sake, you can't resolve everything with fucking and most of the time they didn't do anything else besides fucking each other to oblivion. And honestly, only one brain cell is needed that you know not to drink something a stranger would give you especially if there are people out there that want to kill you!!! You don't have to be a genius to get that! Ok, I had to give this out of my system. But sometimes I was so proud of them. Both Joseph and Natalie never gave up, they kept going even with the whole world against them. They were like cockroaches, didn't let others get rid of them. But I still don't see a HEA for them, I hope they will get it, they deserve it but forgive me for saying this, once or twice a thought crossed me that for Nat death will be the most merciful thing that could happen to her, I really can't imagine her escaping her past.
I also had some issues with the writing style. There was a lot of talking instead of showing but on second thought maybe showing would be too much to handle. And after a while, I got used to it and found it original. It was interesting to be inside Joe's head even if it was very frustrating often. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to Nat's POV or not. I believe this will be one hell of a crazy ride. I went into this book completely blind and I advise the same. If you want to experience this story in fullness then it's necessary to know as little as possible. Because really the "magic" of this book is in the unexpected and I do hope I didn't reveal too much in my review. But I can guarantee you will be shocked either way because this book really delivers. I know this review is such a mess but watch me if I care.
“I am fucking crazy about you, girl.” “Swear you will stay crazy, keep chasing, and never let me go.”
This is not a perfect book. There's some weird sentence structuring, some editing oversights and some decisions made by the MC where you just want to throttle him because he should know better and even does half the time but goes against it. So if you're nitpicky and that stuff ruins a story for you, then yeah, probably not your choice.
That being said, just holy hell and wtf did I just read? I thought I'd read dark before and I thought I'd seen depraved but this book just might take the icing on the cake for me.
Joseph is a senior in college who has a single exchange with his college buddy's twin sister, Natalie and immediately becomes obsessed with her. He literally goes from chasing her down to try and talk to her to stalking her social media and wanking off to pictures of her over the days as his dream girl and centerfold. In his obsession, he idealises the hell out of her. When her father suddenly dies, Joe is tasked as one of the pallbearer's and immediately zooms in on the object of his desire, Nat, once again. At first I didn't know if there was something off with him, the way he spoke in the first 3 chapters, he already had a road map planned out for them and he didn't even have her yet. But then I came to see it as a by product of Joe's whole life having been mapped out for him with no leeway by his scummy, snobbish, cold father whose already told him he's going to marry after college somebody that benefits the family and when he sees Nat and builds her up in his mind, it's also an act of rebellion. He isn't just imagining her, he's also imagining getting off the path dictated to him by a father and brothers that he hates.
From there, Joe and Nat move rather fast together and after a terminal illness in the family comes up even a rush marriage. Joe sees himself as Nat's savior, first sensing that things are not right for her and then finding out some awful, horrendous details that make him possessed to protect her and help her heal. The further he goes, the more he realises that Nat is NOT his perfect centerfold, not the pretty smiling girl in the photos he spent so much time obsessing over but a completely broken girl, so fractured that it's impossible to say whether she can even be put back together.
And that's just the very tippy, top of the iceberg. I'm not going to go any further with story than that because this is an absolute crazy down the rabbit hole ride of complete depravity, darkness, filth, sex and nightmares much bigger than Joe ever imagined. And poor Nat - God, she makes terrible decisions, one's that make you furious but the more you dig, the more you see how she's so way way more than just broken. For all his missteps, Joe never ever let's go of trying to reach her. Yes, they both do wrong by each other and some people won't like this book for trigger's like cheating, although for me, I'd say that's hardly a trigger when the book is basically a land mine of the worst triggers possible.
But even with all that being said and done, once I got on this ride, I could not get off. Yes, I cringed at certain times but the story is told from Joe's POV so there's mystery and suspense involved as he tries to peel back the layers of Nat and find out how far things really go, how deep the secrets really are in his bid to fix her and bring her back. His feelings for her start out obsessional and deepen into a love that never wanes, he's relentless at not giving up but man, what an absolute mindfuck of a battle he's fighting.
This book is not for the faint of heart and yes, lot's of books say that, but this is really dark and sick content. What Nat has endured is beyond the pale. And even during the book itself, there's a total circus of so many shades of grey and craziness that it never relents or becomes an easy journey.
Like I said, this is not a perfect book but if you're looking for a dark read and going in blind (which you will be because the blurb is totally misleading) then there just might be a chance that it'll hook you as deeply as it did me. As part of a duet, it ends on a cliffhanger and the author put me through the ringer enough that I am utterly compelled to have no choice but continue on and finally unravel all the missing pieces. I know they're going to be horrifying most likely but I just can't let it go!
3.5*** because I'm not really sure how I feel about it but I can't stop until I'm sane again.
"I’m always good enough for now, but I ache to be good enough forever. For Natalie. For me. For us.
WHOA!!!! I need some time to recover and put my mind back together. Rarely have I screamed so much while reading. Oh God, was Nat and Joe's story totally heartbreaking!
Once again, Kailee Samuels demonstrated the depth of her talent, painting her characters in a light that rendered me crazy. I can only bow down to the genius it takes to weave such twisted feelings and emotions. I am simply grinning at the author's audacity when it comes to challenging her readers.
Trade carefully, She is definitely not for the faint of heart. As the story unfolds, we spiral down, slowly, but inexorably into more and more darkness, more and more rawness.
Nat.... where to start to describe someone so broken, with so many issues and demons?
"Her broken view of the perfect world was now her perfect view of a broken world."
How about Joe, the "unkind" good guy; there is definitely an edge to him, something off. Then again...choices must be made. Then again... life happens. He needed to deal with terrible circumstances and to adapt, as what started as a romance mercilessly morphed into something entirely else: a bigger picture. He tried. He evolved. He scared me. He made me feel for him. For them.
"My actions do not have to make sense; love doesn’t make sense.
The tone is pitch black, the topics quite disturbing. Between the ultra-hightened anticipation and the gripping storyline, She is going to haunt me forever. My belly hurt, my chest constricted and my heart pounded with each new revelation. Yet, I found myself smiling several times at the much needed light Randy and Vanessa insufflated to the tragedy. Like a pinball, you'll be hit to the left, to the right, and again until your world flips. No tilt allowed.
I love when books bring out the strongest emotions, push the boundaries, and this first installment of the She/He Duet certainly qualifies. If you dare, I can't recommend enough Nat and Joe's journey. I am so ready for book #2!
This is my first Kailee Reese Samuels’ book & I wasn’t sure what to expect but was greatly surprised by her style of writing & dark imagination. This story is about a boy who is to become a man while fighting for the obsessive love he believes in. It is tour down a dark tunnel with confusing twists & turns & truths nobody should ever have to endure. When one young man believes in the fantasy he creates in his mind about the woman he obsesses over to find that the true story is a broken version that is beyond his understanding. He will fight to hold on but will she be willing to go with him. It is a battle of dark demons that don’t want to be locked in the closet but set free to roam the course in a fragile marriage.
I will be reading more of Ms Samuels’ work & cannot wait for the conclusion of this duet. Heed the warning; this is a dark story with triggers such as rape & unwanted sexual acts. Readers proceed with caution.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
Wowzies !! This was my first read by Kailee and it won't be my last. Natalie and Joe broke my damn heart, especially Nat... I don't even know what to really say. She has been through so damn much and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. Joe oh Joe so loving my heart hurts for you too! I can't say much more because I don't want to give anything away but I hope like hell everyone gets what's coming to them!!!! If you like dark and mind twisting this is the book for you. Mimiorphee thank you for the gift it messed my mind up and I love books like that. Kailee Samuels job well done !!!
Expect the unexpected when it comes to this author. This is my motto now for Kailee. I’ve learnt to make sure I’ve plenty of time to read her stories in one sitting as I can’t seem to put her books down. Natalie and Joes story will captivate you from start to finish.
If you want to know anything about the storyline then read the blurb, it’s all your gonna her from me. You need to go into this authors books blind.
She is a fast paced intense read and I can’t wait to read the second part of this duet He.
“My actions do not have to make sense; love doesn’t make sense.”
Shocked, happy, scared, angry and heartbroken are a few emotions She, by Kailee Reese Samuels, pulled from me. I definitely needed tissues while reading Natalie and Joe’s story, and at the end a heavy drink and a smoke....I don’t even smoke!!
“If fate exists, then love blooms upon it like a growth, a mold, a toxin—those signals couldn’t be ignored. She was mine from her birth just as I was hers.”
This is the beautifully dark love story of Joe and Natalie. ‘She’ is told in Joe’s POV which I absolutely loved. Since the first chapter I started falling for Joe. He is caring, focused, determined and a little obsessive. Natalie is beautiful, brave and damaged, some may even call her twisted. I was automatically intrigued by her and cannot wait to get fully inside her head. Her history is truly gut wrenching.
“I must tear her from the seams and stitch her back together again”
There are a few parts in the story that I can honestly say I did not see coming. Two scenes had me squirming in my seat and left unsure about my feelings and thoughts on the situation. I had to put the book down both times to process what I just read but I ended up loving the little turn of events. There is a certain side character that I loved to hate and another one in which I wanted to jump on his bike and run away with forever.
“There is a point in our lives where we cross over a threshold for which we can never return.”
I had goosebumps the entire time while reading the last chapter. I certainly didn’t expect the plot twist we are given but I should learn by now that KRS is full of surprises. Every second of this book had me on the edge. Their love is hard, deep and not always pretty, I found myself drawn to the darkness of it.
“We can change and grow together. Or we can mutilate the love into nothing.”
This is a duet so fair warning it ends on a cliffhanger but wow what a cliffhanger it was. I’m desperate, nervous and going out of my mind waiting for He, the conclusion of their story. She is a definite must read. If you are looking for a book that will hold you captive and leave you begging for more, you need to read this!!
“I will ride with her to hell and eternal damnation holding her hand because that is what love does.”
~ Read on behalf of Two Darlin Dolls and a Book Review Blog
I decided to read this book based on the blurb, however, the blurb has absolutely nothing to do with 90% of this book. It is misleading as the reader will believe that this is a story about marital cheating and while there is cheating, it is not the focus of the story.
Told entirely from the POV of male lead, Joseph Melton, this is the story of a young man, still in college who falls for his good friend's sister. Joseph is following in his father and brother's footsteps by becoming a lawyer. He eats, sleeps and studies only until he meets Natalie. Then his plans dramatically change and his world goes from orderly to disorderly.
This was a difficult read as the connections and flow didn't make sense a lot of the time. Most of the first three chapters are Joe's inner monologue and he, quite frankly, comes off a bit unhinged. He is quick to become obsessive with regards to Natalie after one brief meeting and this only becomes worse after spending the day of her father's funeral with her. Joe's description of his less than close relationship with his parents, u-turns and becomes one where his mother is his end all be all. I was never really able to get a handle on his character or his motivations.
Natalie, who is the character that is supposed to be the unhinged one, actually comes across more normal than Joe. A victim of abuse, she latches on to Joe and his mother as a lifeline. As the story progresses, Natalie's true problems emerge leading the reader down a very dark and twisted path.
Going in, know that you will have to read carefully as there are odd time jumps (there will be detailed day by day periods and in the middle of the chapter Joe will say weeks have past). Also know this is a very dark read with abuse, cheating and obsession. There are a lot of plot twists that drag the story deeper down the rabbit hole and new characters will emerge that start one way but are actually something else.
As this is part one of a duet, there is a cliffhanger ending with the second part, He, to come. The last chapter is in Natalie's POV so perhaps the second book will offer a deeper, clearer perspective of her.
KRS has taken a boy meets girl scenario, and taken it to heights I never expected.
The story centres around Joe and Natalie, and his initial need to be with her. Together they seem like every young couple, that is until....the layers of their lives start to unravel. Secrets are revealed, lives have changed, pasts become more confronting and more real when they are put in front of you.
The story is entwined with secrets, mystery, pain, angst, heartbreak, darkness and Hot as hell moments, but expect the unexpected.
Kailee Reese Samuels has written both main characters remarkably well, and the secondary characters are a real focal point throughout the story line. The characters are well developed and the story line not only keeps you guessing but it entices you to read on.
I can only say “wow” this story blew me away with the direction KRS decided to take with this story line, and I can’t wait for “HE” to be released.
Totally blown away with this book! When you think you are settled in for a nice juicy story of boy meets girl and him capturing her heart, events take a big twist and the raw, mouth dropping tale unfolds like a horror/ thriller movie that you can’t help but watch and absorb every feeling known to mankind. The author’s beautiful handling of words capture your mind, make your heart race and break the dam holding back your tears, as you live through every act and emotion that the characters endure. Be warned, this is a dark story, but one I certainly don’t regret reading. I can’t wait for the concluding story in this duet!
Yet again, this author blows me away with her words! I have been eagerly awaiting the first book in this duet, and it was so totally worth the wait! It’s definitely not your typical boy meets girl, they fall in love, and live happily ever after. This story about Natalie and Joe is so much more than that! Not everything in their lives are as it seems. They have their struggles, their happiness, sadness, love, tragedy, so many, many facets to their relationship are displayed throughout this amazing book! At times while reading, I myself was happy, angry and sad. But all those emotions show how great this book is, and should be read by everyone! The way this writer describes her characters, I could actually envision what they look like! I cannot wait for the next part of this duet to come out! Do yourself a favor, and please read this amazing story!
There are no words for the magic this woman creates for us. This book has rocked me so hard! The feels are just wow. I can honestly say you all need to read this one. It’s not what you think. I hate that I have to wait for HE but i have no choice. I will as always tell anyone who will listen to read anything they can get there hands on from Kailee
She is most definitely a different and unique type of book, for me it’s not dark like some dark reads I’ve read it’s more of a psychological mystery. Joe is a young typical college guy, but he has his life mapped out for him thanks to his parents and he’s following through with it until he meets Natalie one night in a frat house bathroom. He knows he wants her but he doesn’t know just how messed up his life is going to get. He’s delusional when it comes to Natalie and he puts her on this unrealistic pedestal from the beginning. Natalie is all kinds of screwed up and with good reason, she has had an utterly horrific childhood and is coping the best way she can. She’s impulsive and immature too a point, they both are. I don’t want to go into the plot too much so you can experience it for yourself. One thing Kailee never disappoints on is the sex, it’s hot and twisted. There are most definitely some twists and turns that you may not see coming or you may in fact pick them but Kailee definitely keeps you guessing and on your toes with this book. I have to admit I didn’t love or hate this book, it didn’t grab me in the beginning or in the middle in fact it didn’t really grab me until 90% that last 10% was pretty good and it really got interesting and held my attention. There is a lot of unnecessary filling in this book which makes it a long read. There are a few editing issues and there are some inconsistencies in the storyline. The writing style is almost old English, almost all the book has non abbreviated words e.g. cannot, do not, I am, is not etc etc, this made it feel like it was written in another era not the 21st century. But then some scenes are written with abbreviated sentences, so it confused the hell out of me. Sorry but the story doesn’t flow well for me when it’s written that way. I’m intrigued to see where Kailee will take He and i have a feeling it’ll be even more of a roller coaster ride!!!
WOW.... now this is not a book for the faint of heart, this story will test you, it will reel you in and then spit you out and leave you feeling like... HOLY HECK what did I just read! This book was thought provoking, it was emotional as all hell... A beautifully tainted love story with a gigantic twist in it's tail, you think you have the story all figured out when BAM you're hit with yet another blindside! I cannot wait for the conclusion to this duet as I'm sure Kailee is not yet messed with our hearts or minds enough and I guarantee HE is going to be EXPLOSIVE!!
3.5 stars Soooo much potential (super dark concepts( but not executed as well as it could have been. I had the urge to skim multiple times, the story dragging. Also, this ends with a huge, major cliffhanger. It is not a complete book but half of what will make 1 whole, loooong book when combined with “book #2”.
Once again, Kailee sends my head spinning in all the right ways. She’s known for her dark side to romance and this book delivers just that. So many twists and turns, so many moments I sat there in complete shock and awe. Heart breaking good. My heart broke for this young boy/man and everything he had to endure as he grew up, which effected him as he grew older.
It’s a must read. If you like your romances on the darker side, Kailee Samuels is your go to author! I’ve had the pleasure of reading a few of her books and I can’t wait to start part two of this duet.
Natalie and Joes story pulls at your heartstrings. Wow I’m bawling my eyes out and just shocked and overwhelmed by this book! A very intense story in each page. Natalie, I can say is one strong woman and blindsides me how she hasn’t just giving up on life. Joe oh that man the minute he meets Natalie he wants her. So many lies though will it all pull them apart? Dark, nasty, angst, shocking story that you never want it to end. I can’t wait for the next book to come out! 5/5 unkind stars
I had no idea what to expect when I read this extraordinary book. It’s beautifully written, some lines read like poetry. It’s an unusual story featuring fascinating complex and at times tragic characters, Natalie and Joe. It’s darker than hell at times, but also erotic and sensual, it’s mixed up and captivating. The author effortlessly weaves in twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting and it got me hooked. The additional characters mesh in well and add to the drama and overall mystery. If you like stories on the dark side but with depth then this could be for you but it’s not for the faint hearted. I will definitely be reading the sequel. It’s a well deserved 5 stars from me
This an exceptional book by Ms. Samuels, at first glance you see the pretty cover and read the blurb and you think "Ah, I know what this story is about" WRONG!!!! Nothing could be farther from the truth, so heed the warnings, this isn't some fluffy sweet romance where someone seems to have strayed. This book deals with dark and disturbing subject matter, but a book you can not put down, you need to know more, where it's going, omg it went there. The characters are both troubled in their own way, but you love Joe (Joey) & Nat, it's a case of lust/love at first sight, but trouble from the start should let you know this will be a ride. Nat is a character I feel and relate to, but even now I feel for her, how does one survive and learn to live? Not easily and with loads of love, which we get with Joey, Mr. Unkind (oh my..hot) has his faults and learning what it's take to be married with the obstacles they have is almost too much for him. Some of the characters in this book you will hate, some you may find understanding of and others you just love... Joe's mom is the bomb, she want's whats best for her lit Joey and she takes to Nat right off the bat, she becomes her mother and best friend and Randy... wow, a take charge kinda guy that you want to know more about (if you get my drift wink*wink). Just when you think you know how things will go, the author throws you a BIG curve ball, this story is full of twists and turns and the emotions?? You'll smile and giggle a few times, you'll want to cry and rage at other times, the gut punch at the end has me so thankful that He release in less than a month. And as rough as this book is to read, I will be rereading the night before He comes out, that way all the emotions are fresh again. DON'T be afraid to buy this book and read, because for its dark and disturbing subject matter, it's a very real look into how one does or doesn't deal with the horrific things that don't always just go bump in the middle of the night. You feel this story and even when you want to slap Joe and Nat, you root for them and want to hug them and tell them "it'll be okay, you can do this" and die inside when one more layer is revealed. My hat is off to the author for daring to take this on, excellent job.
The blurb mixed with the tittle evoked an intense feeling and I couldn't start it fast enough. Knowing this author from previous works I knew, without a shadow of a doubt that I was about to embark on a breathtaking story. Kailee Reese Samuels has been a constant in my reading life and her books are intense. Her writing is raw, breathtaking, intense with a touch of darkness and sweetness... She is her latest release and it's the first book from the She/He duet. This duet focus on the lifes of Joe and Natalie. They could be just like any ordinary couple in love and wanting forever with each other but life has other ideas for them. I love a book told by a male perspective and this book just nailed it. His speech, his struggles, his past... The plot is superb, very well written, super engaging and intense. Just get ready for this... The interation between the characters started in a way and then it all changed. Why??? Reading this book felt like I was in a very bumpy rollercoaster because in one moment I had a happy scene that I'm seconds it was ripped apart. This book presented us with love, desire, friendship as well as darkness, drama, mystery and hatred. But of course that we have some pretty hot and steamy scenes... But I can't say more. I'm so overwhelmed and mad at the same time... I want more... I want book 2... Kailee gimme. Gimme. Like now... I can't wait. I can't. I need more. I need answers. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Here's the thing with Kailee Reese Samuels - there's only one person that can do her, and that's the author herself. The reason why i say this is because her writing style is like nothing i've ever read before. It's lyrical and almost poetic, so i'm guessing that somewhere along the line and her development, she decided to move on from poems and into writing full length novels. And you know what? It really works.
Writing this review a few days after the release (three in actuality), i had the chance to see where her standings are for this book, and quite frankly, there's a reason why She is a bestseller and has that orange banner beside the title of the book. It's nothing like her Juliet series (or the characters derived from it), nor the Son of Saint series, or even her story A & E that tackled mental health. She was, well. It was heartbreaking. And it was also heartfelt. Also, it was incredibly difficult to get through this, not because of the content, nor because of the way it was delivered. Simply because it hits way too close to comfort for me.
I understood Joe's 'obsession' when it comes to Natalie - how one look, not even a full conversation, can profoundly change your destiny to the point where you derive from what you personally had planned for your future. How one person can either break or make you with a single word or decision. And i also understood Natalie - how the relationship with your parents can determine the type of person that you become in the future. This woman has gone through hell and back, and still she fights. Still she wants the best for her, for her family and especially for the ones that she loves.
This isn't the kind of book that you can plow through - it's about forgiving. It's about making your own destiny away from the ideals of your family. But most of all, it's about fighting for what you need to make yourself better.
Words are strong enough to describe why books like this are so important. Sometimes words just don't impact enough, but stories do, and She is it. It's the book you need to read at least once in your life to realize that you don't need any one else's blessing to do something that is just perfect for you. It's the book that will make you realize that life is about taking risks, of changing course from the path that had been set out for you from the beginning, but most of all, it's about falling so low that all you can do is go up.
Needless to say that this book should be recommended. Not everyone will fall down in awe with the writing style because it's so different from all the other authors, but it's absolutely worth it. In the end, you have to ask yourself one simple question: do you want a book that will impact you and make you think about yourself and your future while taking you on an unexpected journey?
If you said yes, then She should be on that journey.
Mostly No Spoilers... Kailee has yet to write a book I haven't loved, I'm starting to think she could write a gut wrenching, heart pounding, fall on the floor laughing, grocery list...
She had me twisted in knots. Swear, I honestly didn't know where Kailee was taking me... I just knew I had to buckle down and go on the ride. She starts out as a slow burn. She teases and caresses, makes you want more but takes her time. Then once you're hooked she strokes you to combustion and you're left gasping for more. Anticipating the next touch. She is nothing like I was expecting and everything I needed. Kailee outdid herself on the dark with She. This book is not your typical romance. (That's my spoiler). I cant wait for He to come out. As ever I am blown away by this authors ability to write with such grace and talent.
Blurb: It started off innocuous enough. A simple nod here. A cup of coffee. And slipping off the ring. A walk in the rain. A hotel check in. And a disappearance. Don't think about what is at home. Don't think about what this means. She won't feel a thing. … Until she feels everything.
Kailee Reese Samuels writes dark, dirty lit. Her words may cause increased heart rate, hand sweating, and other issues. You are strongly advised to enter at your own risk. Not for the faint of heart. May cause triggers in some. Others may choose to ride again and again. You have been warned.
I am wrecked, totally and completely. This read will take you to the edge and wring you out. WARNING: NOT FOR THE TENDER HEARTED I was drawn so deeply into this story, it made me feel so many emotions throughout it all. I fell in love with the main characters: Joey for his innocence, his everlasting hope for good even when confronted with a world he has no idea how to handle and a girl he just cannot not love. He tries with everything he is to *help, cure, and protect his Queen. Through all the ups and downs he never expected from even his own familial secrets. Natalie, an injured, twisted dove who’s life has never truly ever been her own. See’s more in Joe than she ever expected, needs more than she ever dreamed and hurts more than any one person ever deserves. Natalie is living a life of deep entrenched demons, with no clear way of serving them. Everyday is a journey through hell of its own making. Together they grow, and learn more about their demons, hers dark and twisted, his lost and clueless, but becoming dark and twisted as well. I felt the hurt, the agonizing loss of everything portrayed in this book, it felt as if I were reading a persons diary the way my emotions were pulled left and right. This Author has an unbelievable way of pulling you deeply into her writings, she makes the characters real to me as if I have known them and their life stories. Thank you for opening your mind and heart, and sharing these amazing characters and writings with us.
This might be the first story by this author that I've read but it definitely will not the last! This writer grabs your attention from the get go, reels you in and keeps you dangling until the conclusion.
Joseph or Little Joey Melton the youngest son of four boys is set to become a lawyer like everyone else in his family, a pathway chosen by his parents. He describes himself as '..an affluent, spoiled brat.' I didn't see him that manner at first but as his past emerges, well he was more self aware than I realised. Natalie Blum is the second daughter of two college professors and has a twin brother. "...the fireball with cherry lips and lush curves." (As described by Joe.) 'She' is Natalie and 'He' is Joseph, both embark on an incredibly dark journey.
Intense hatred, which is such a deep and passionate emotion, is how I felt at times when reading this book. Towards both some of the characters and events that are described in the story, graphic but not overtly so. There are plenty of analogies to create a very clear mind map of this story. The emotional ride is no lame 'hop in and go for a spin' type you'd find in an amusement park, nothing amusing at all.
There are plenty of twists and turns, so many so that at times it's hard to keep up, although things are eventually explained carefully. The mystery heightens the further you go in the story. Book 2 is bound to do much the same and I can't wait
I’m still trying to process what I’ve read. I expected dark and mysterious and this story had both to spare. A different kind of dark, however. This was not straightforward. This was not clear cut. The darkness came from an unknown place and love would be lost if they didn’t figure it out…
Joe and Natalie met by chance, their encounter brief yet the catalyst to so, so much… This was told all from Joe’s perspective and it read like a mystery novel in some ways with Natalie being the mystery. The layers surrounding her, and I quickly realized him, were deep indeed and each reveal seemed to spark even more uncertainty. There were dips and dives that just quietly, and sometimes disturbingly, just found their way in a page, a paragraph, that snuck up and took me unaware…
I was intrigued, apprehensive, even confused at times. When I said ‘not straight forward’, I meant bendy, twisty, everything crooked when it should be straight. I struggled with the delivery at times and you definitely need to read the warnings. This was not an easy read even as it compelled me to keep on going… Their story is far from over and I’m almost afraid of what is to come…
Intense, Tragic...Broken, doesn't even describe this masterpiece.
She, had me consumed from the first few pages in, I couldn't put it down, it is by far the best book I have read this year!!! The story line is intriguing, dark, emotional, passionate, intense.....and HOT as Hell!!
"She" is Joe and Natalie's story, written in Joe's POV. It showcases, just how far someone is willing to go through, to hold onto the one they love. Its a truly gripping storyline, featuring heartache, tragedy, despair, loss, desires.....and the will to fight for someone who may not be strong enough to fight for themselves.
Through the course of reading, I literally wondered if I had read it correctly as Samuels has written parts in that made me stop, go back and re- read and then I was like "WOW"...I cant even explain it in words!!!
I litrally felt like I knew where this story line was heading and then BAM Kailee, turns it on its head and shocks the complete F^*% out of me....which doesn't happen often.
What follows is a fast paced story line that will intrigue you to the very end, lots of twists and turns, burning up your kindle Hot moments, Broken characters, and tragic endings....this book has it all!!!
I loved the fact Samuels incorporated back stories of the characters, it really gave me the sense of knowing each character well, the characters were well developed so much so, you could picture them in your head just as Samuels had written. The story line is easy to follow even with all the twists and turns, and me wanting to scream at characters at times, the story line is phenomenon.
I simply cannot rave about this book enough, if I could give more than 5 stars I would in a heartbeat.....it's that good!!!
