Gunjan Porwal has done it again. After the thrilling setup in The Rise of Dandak, the second installment, The Bow of Rama, doesn't just meet the soaring expectations—it blasts past them, delivering an absolute masterclass in mythological fiction and a perfectly earned conclusion to the immortal warrior Ashwatthama's epic quest.

If you, like me, believe Gunjan to be an amazing storyteller, prepare to be completely bowled over by his prowess in plotting, pacing and emotional depth. I wholeheartedly give this book a 5 star rating, a fitting score for such a magnificent conclusion.

The story dives straight back into the action, right where the first part left off but with the stakes magnified exponentially. Following the devastating events of Dwarka, Ashwatthama and his allies - Rana, Vikram, Urmila, and others are reeling from a massive loss. The Asura King Dandak's reign of terror is spreading like wildfire across Aryavarta and the very future of the Age of Men hangs in the balance.

The core of this book is a desperate, perilous quest for the legendary weapon of Lord Rama, the Kodanda, the only thing capable of stopping the seemingly unstoppable Dandak. Gunjan Porwal masterfully uses this search to weave together the intricate threads of the Mahabharata and Ramayana, a feat very few authors achieve with such seamless grace. A new revelation sends Ashwatthama on a journey of profound self-discovery, forcing him to confront the "ghosts of the distant past" and the heavy burden of his accursed immortality.

The true triumph of this duology lies in Gunjan Porwal's breathtaking portrayal of Ashwatthama. He is no longer just the cursed, pain-ridden warrior. Here, we see his complete evolution, a warrior whose struggle is intensely personal - a battle not just with Dandak but with his own internal demons, regret and the very concept of his redemption.

His moments of reflection, especially the wise guidance from a divine entity like Lord Hanuman and the powerful chapter involving his father, Dronacharya are the emotional bedrock of the story. You feel his pain, you root for his ultimate victory and you finally understand the depth of his dharma. The supporting characters - Rana, Urmila and others are not mere sidekicks. They are fleshed out, brave and vital to the plot, each adding different dimensions of loyalty, strategy and humanity to Ashwatthama’s dark world. Dandak himself is a formidable, chilling villain, one whose complexity forces Ashwatthama to face not just brute power but also dark magic, sophisticated weaponry and philosophical challenges.

Gunjan Porwal’s storytelling shines brightest through his technique. The book is a relentless, action-packed thrill ride with impeccable pacing. There are no unnecessary diversions; every chapter drives the plot forward, making it a genuine page-turner that will keep you up all night. The war scenes are vivid, intense and masterfully choreographed, feeling more like a sweeping epic movie than words on a page.

The rich world-building, a seamless blend of mythology, history and original fiction, is Gunjan Porwal's signature. His attention to detail - from geographical descriptions to philosophical conversations is astonishing. He provides an enriching experience, often pausing the main narrative to offer profound spiritual quotes or glimpses into the epics, all of which feel perfectly placed to enhance the theme of Karma and second chances. The prose is crisp, professional and evocative, with the judicious use of Sanskrit terms and spiritual dialogue adding an authentic, transportive quality.

The Bow of Rama is the ultimate, satisfying closure to Ashwatthama's journey toward redemption. It is a brilliant piece of mythological fiction that honors the source material while crafting a wholly original, high-stakes adventure. It beautifully explores themes of destiny, choice, the burden of immortality, and the true meaning of a warrior's dharma.

This book is highly, highly recommended to anyone who loves Indian mythology, historical fiction, epic fantasy and characters who must find their moral compass in the darkest of times. Gunjan Porwal is truly a writer to watch and this duology deserves to be on every mythology lover's shelf.

✨I remember reading the first book in the series, "The Rise Of Dandak", and I was flabbergasted by the amount of drama, action and thrill it had, I was so excited to read this book for same reason, I'm definitely not someone who picks mythological fiction often but trust me, I couldn't wait to jump into this book, author Gunjan makes sure his readers get exactly what they're looking for. In terms of writing and characters, I must say, one gets lost in the fragile yet in depth character building and for people who are not really into it, or even too much into it gets a complete new perspective with a lot of fun added, along with elements of fantasy!
.
.
The Bow Of Rama, starts with a small recap, but as we go further it feels like a movie, I was literally wondering how smoothly things went in especially in terms of building the plot in order, chapter by chapter, I was more and more inclined towards the characters I have already known but this time, the author showcases them in a new form which was absolutely amazing.
.

I will definitely recommend you read the first installment and then straight away start with this one, I'm sure it's going to make you think out of the box, it has a lot of small twists with an enthralling narration. Go for it.

‘Ashwatthama's Redemption: The Bow of Rama’ by Gunjan Porwal is the second book in the series where we are following the journey of Ashwatthama and the quest to acquire a weapon which will help the good win over the evil. We get to see the difficult journey wherein many people lose their lives, the sacrifice that many people do. During this journey Ashwatthama also receives help from Lord Hanuman and Lord Krishna which helps/guides him to get to the weapon. The clues and the way they are trying to get over all the difficulties and also to overcome the danger that is lurking on whole of Aryavarta. There are many ups and downs going throughout this journey to know more read ‘Ashwatthama’s Redemption: The Bow of Rama’

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed the first part and really liked how the book gives us a recap about what happened earlier. Every page has a plot twist which will surely keep the readers on edge throughout the book. The thrill and action throughout the book makes it even more interesting and there are times when the readers will actually be surprised by the sudden turn of events. I must say that the author has done in-depth research while writing the plot of the series. It is a perfect blend of mythology and action.

Characters are well developed. Each and every character has a major contribution in this battle. We also get to see that many lives get affected during a battle and the ultimate result is it is emotionally exhausting. I liked how the author has given equal importance to all the characters and how the author has also given us some glimpses of Mahabharata and Ramayana through this story.

Language is simple and lucid. The narration is done beautifully and the flow of the story is perfect. I must say that I was curious throughout the book to know what is going to happen next. The book cover and the title of the book are apt to the plot.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book and I would surely recommend it to all.

Ashwatthama's Redemption: The Bow of Rama follows Ashwatthama's journey to obtain the lost bow of Rama, the Kodanda, which is a powerful weapon and probably, the only weapon that could kill Dandak. The cursed and powerful demon king Dandak is on a heist to destroy human lands. The rulers of Hastinapur and it's neighbouring kingdoms are aware of the fact that if the asuras win the war and take over their lands, it will lead to a mayhem and there wouldn't be an end to the violent torture their women and kids would endure. The asuras need to be stopped and all they have against them is their faith towards Ashwatthama.

Ashwatthama, on the other hand, is fighting his own demons. However, he found a purpose after 100 years of the Kurukshetra war. He wanted to help the humans fight the asuras. But with no celestial weapons, all they are depending on is a theory. A theory based on which their war plans are made. Will they be successful in fighting off the asuras? Wait, there's more. They not only have to fight the asuras, but the giants as well. Ashwatthama knew the destruction one giant could cause. He has seen Bhima's son in the Kurukshetra war. How are the humans supposed to fight 20 giants? How is Ashwatthama going to tackle Dandak without his gem? Will he ever be free of Krishna's curse? Pick up the book and go on a rollercoaster ride of misadventures.

My views: First of all, thank the Almighty that the book has a brief summary penned down in the first few pages, explaining all that happened in the first book of this duology. My goldfish memory didn't remember a thing of what took place in the first book, except for the fact that I really loved Ashwatthama's misadventures. So yeah, reading the summary helped me remember a thing or two. I still read the last chapter of The Rise of Dandak to recall how it all ended. The first was a five star read for me and so is the second book.

It's disheartening that we are not having another adventure with Ashwatthama. But I am glad to have these books from the author. I am a huge mythology fan and I religiously followed Mahabharata, listened to the stories from my grandpa as a child, as we all did. We knew so much about the Pandavas, about Pitama, about Dronacharya, about the Kauravas too. But little did we know about the demigod Ashwatthama. He was no Hero, he was no anti-hero either. He was just forgotten and faded in the texts.

This duology is an imaginative text of what might have happened after Krishna cursed Ashwatthama. Even after 100 years, did Ashwatthama find a purpose or is he still roaming somewhere out there, in the woods, without a purpose and possibly praying for mortality. This duology helped me know who Ashwatthama was. I've read a good number of mythology books to make a healthy comparison and say that this duology needs to be read by all. It's beautifully crafted and narrated. The side characters were equally given importance and I loved how each played an important role in the war. The climax Oh Lord! How brilliantly executed! The language is lucid and suitable for every age. It's a big thumbs up for me and I hope you get a chance to pick it up!

Gunjan Porwal deserves to be a National Bestselling author and this series deserves to be a National bestseller because it is so intricately and deftly crafted. It picks up from where the last left off. The question that lurks throughout this book is can a celestial weapon be destroyed so easily? And then we walk through the lanes of Ramayana. It's beautifully narrated story and a great way to amalgam the two epics. First for me and most definitely for you too.

There are very few duologies or trilogies which keeps you interested with its sequels in the series. Some where down the line, we observe that the essence of the 1st part has been lost because either the author ends up overdoing or writes it just for the sake of completing the sequel because of the publisher’s deadline. This has NOT been the case with Gunjan Porwal’s 2nd and final part of the “Ashwatthama’s Redemption” series named “The Bow of Rama”. The 1st part is named “The Rise of Dandak” which released 3 years back and the final part has taken a good amount of time to be in our hands. I can proudly say that Gunjan impresses you with his craft again and every sentence that he writes screams of how he deserves to be one of the popular Indian mythological and historical fantasy writers.

His writing style is so apt that I couldn’t find any flaw anywhere. The way he takes the story ahead from where the 1st book ends is done very seamlessly. I keep suggesting authors to give a small recap of their earlier books in case of sequels so that people can revise it before proceeding ahead with the new part but not many implement this – may be because they believe the sale of previous books will decrease. Porwal has done it by himself, and it has been blended so beautifully in very few words that even if you haven’t read the 1st part, you will not find it difficult to understand the 2nd part. My recommendation would be to read the 1st part as it has many great concepts and philosophies discussed in detail such as karma, life, death, guilt, ego, mind games etc.

The narration of “The Bow of Rama” is quite relaxed despite several things happening at different places with different characters at the same time. You will feel the excitement and there will be the curiosity about what would happen next, but author keeps everything quite calm for the reader to not find anything clustered or pacy. Most of the characters are from the 1st book itself hence they don’t need much introduction but here, we start getting to know about their power with which they can win against the Dandak and Asuras. I liked how the bow of Rama on which even the title of the book is based is given importance and thrilling aspect right from the initial chapters itself. You will just want to know how the weapon which is associated with Lord Vishnu will be regained by this team of righteous people.

I liked the whole section which leads Ashwatthama to go to Ayodhya – the chapters where he ends up meeting Hanuman and the little tale of Lord Ram that is being discussed. Something similar happens in the 1st book too which brings back the nostalgic effect. I liked some great philosophies that is discussed in this same segment such as where Hanuman tells how he got a chance to redeem his Karma and end the cycle of Birth-Death otherwise God can do everything by himself, but he gives an opportunity to human beings to better their karma. Amazing! Similarly, the book also talks about some ancient powers and miracles such as shahtra-bhautik-vigyaan, parmanu-bahutiki, atomic physics, dark magic and other scientific factors which has been part of our culture since long back.

The great USP of this book has been that more than the action scenes the book here talks about the strategy that both the end choses to get onto the fight. The very first scene where one of the main character loses life and the love relationship of a couple gets affected speaks about the intense planning with which it happens. After that, the way author has used many intellectual elements to plan the last big war is a treat for readers. You need to be very calm and patient throughout the whole 2nd half because somewhere you want the War to begin and bow to come into the picture but that’s what the narration of this book is all about – wait and watch! I also liked Ashwatthama’s dilemma on what to choose – mortality or immortality. Every time he gets into that situation, as a human being, you get a lot to question yourself about what you would have done in that situation and it tells us, how hard one’s life can be.

The conversations between all the characters just win your heart time and again. The most magical part about the book is that author has written fighting, action, battle, and war sequences not only for you to feel the adrenaline rush but to ensure that you keep on imagining the whole scenario and build it in your world of Visualization. This makes the book very impactful and memorable. By the end, I wanted it to have another part in the series too which I rarely wish for any duology or trilogy. Haha!

Lastly, talking about the drawbacks- I must say that there aren’t many but still I think the book could have been 70-80 pages less. I feel few parts are given too much description which doesn’t elevate the scene but become stretchy and boring after a time. Because the book’s title has the name Rama, you want to read more about him, but it ends very soon, and you are taken ahead in the story immediately. Otherwise, this book has no issues at all and is a superb read. I give it 4.5 stars out of 5 and recommend it to all the fantasy, Indian mythology, ancient history, philosophical lovers to get it soon along with its 1st part.

Thanks.

The sequel to 'Ashwatthama's Redemption - The Rise of Dhandak', this second book in the series is an enthralling narrative of a mythological fictional thriller by Gunjan Porwal that is humming with energy and pace. The plot is centered around the life of Ashwatthama post the Mahabharata war and his curse of living an immortal life in pain and remorse. A few generations down the famous Kurukshetra war, a demon king Dhandak has resurrected himself from the netherworld to spread terror and supremacy of asuras over Aryavartha. He is blessed with a boon to be killed only by an incarnation of God himself by his celestial weapon. With the danger looming over the kingdom of Surparaka and Avanti, the princes of these kingdoms turn to Ashwatthama for help. The sequel begins in the aftermath of the battle in the waters of Dwarka, where the celestial bow of Lord Rama, the Kodanda is destroyed by Dhandak's general. With all vestige of hope surviving the wrath of Dhandak now diminishing, Ashwatthama makes one last attempt to travel to Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama in the hope of obtaining a remedy. There, he encounters Lord Hanuman, who narrates Lord Rama's Avatar and the true essence behind the characters and events that led to what we know in Ramayana. With Lord Hanuman's blessing, guidance, and the hint of the indestructible Kodanda, Ashwatthama proceeds to the mountains of Himavant, where the only celestial weapon that can kill Dhandak is hidden away by him to be used at the right time. Meanwhile, the kingdoms of Surparaka and Avanti have fallen to Dhandak's army led by his new general Kaalnemi and are heading to Hastinapur and Indraprastha for the final war of supremacy. Ashwatthama is in a race against time to find the celestial weapon that can kill Dhandak and relieve himself of the curse. Together with their allies, Rana, Vikram, Urmila, and Shreya, they formulate a strategic battle plan to end Dhandak's reign of terror. Will Dhandak get a whiff of their plan? How will they bring down a powerful adversary who himself has celestial weapons? How will Ashwatthama counter Dhandak's attack and exploit his weakness to bring his end? Brace yourself for some action-packed nerve-racking roller coaster ride of adventures, that will keep the readers hooked on while the pages turn themselves. The author's writings are realistic and use powerful descriptions creating visual imagery of the places and incidents. A superb read and well recommended for all mythological thriller fans. Strongly suggest reading both books in the order to enjoy the engrossing tale of Ashwatthama.

Ashwatthama's Redemption: The Bow of Rama by Gunjan Porwal is a historical fantasy fiction and is the final book of this duology. In this book, the journey of Ashwatthama continues and the gang forms a plan to vanquish Dandak.

The story starts right where the first book ends. In the first book, Ashwatthama and his newly found friends embark on an adventure to find Lord Rama's bow, the Kodanda, to stop the demon King, Dandak, from rising and to kill him. Whether they succeeded in retrieving the bow or not is for you to find out.

This book is a definite improvement. The battle scenes were executed on a grander scale and the plotting-planning was more exhaustive. There were more emotional moments and one certain death scene was heartbreaking. There wasn't a single empty moment in the book, and the entire story was thoroughly enjoyable.

The bond of the characters strengthened in this book. There was a particular "Arjuna" moment in the book that was very well done. The same brought back the memories of the Kurukshetra war for Ashwatthama. It was a fresh change to see the events of the Kurukshetra war from Ashwatthama's perspective.

The philosophical element was intact in this book too and a short retelling of the Ramayana from a particular God was surreal. Although it was like a chapter-long monologue, it didn't seem boring or repetitive at any point. In fact, I almost wished the narration doesn't stop.

Overall, this is a book that you shouldn't miss. If you are a fan of this genre, you are in for a treat.

Must Read!

The second of the duology, has been sitting in my to-read from a very long time. I finally could get the book and read it. I liked the first one, which I received as ARC from the author, shame I never got this one, but I still wanted to read it anyways.
This story includes a lot of journeys of Ashwatthama, in search of many things, himself included. As Dandak has raised, he aims at building a strong army to establish his kingdom over the humans, not by wining the battles but by killing them all. He reaches Lanka to take the help, when refused, he takes their giants and ships for help to keep Lanka behind the screens in the battle with humans.
Dandak appoints Kaalnemi as his new chief of army, who is instructed to go on winning all the kingdoms on their way to Hastinapur, primarily the Yeti’s kingdom before reaching their ultimate target. Meanwhile, Dandak goes in search of the Bow of Rama, the only weapon that could be fatal for him, and the only person who could be capable of killing him, Ashwatthama.
This well put story is worth reading, I sure will try to read both the books once again, this time together so that I enjoy it completely and once again. There were a few references to Mahabharat, and all those leave us with a good reasoning from the authors viewpoint. Again, we never would know the truth it is all the viewpoints we learn about the epic battle.
If you haven’t read the duology, you are pick this up. I know there are too many books around Ashwatthama, lately, however this has its own story and is a worth reading story.

I’m a big fan of mythological fiction and so I try reading everything I can get my hands on. Ashwatthama's Redemption: The Bow of Rama is the second part of a series. The first book was full of action, drama and excitement that I was waiting to read the second part.
The book starts with a small recap to the first book and so if you have not read the first one you can still catch-up and will be able to enjoy the second book as a stand alone also.
This story is based on events that happen 100 yrs post Mahabharata war. The story revolves around Ashwathama trying to find a weapon which can kill the enemy, the lord of dark forces and devils. He was helped by a lot of friends that he has made during his long life and also lord Hanuman and Krishna.
There are a lot of ups and downs in the book. The plot is very well drafted and really exciting. The characters and scenes are very well described, just like a motion picture. The story flows in a way that keeps the reader completely hooked on. Its really fast paced and the story moves in a way that also involves different smaller mythological stories. Overall, the narration is really good.
Overall, I completely enjoyed this book. If you like reading mythological fiction, do checkout the books by the author. I rate it a 4.5/5 and recommend it to all the lovers of mythological fiction and also to people who would like to start reading mythological fiction.

Review: ‘Ashwatthama's Redemption: The Bow of Rama’ by Gunjan Porwal is the second book in the book series, where the story revolves around the conquest of acquiring weapons to defeat the most powerful demons. Dandak is the most powerful demon, who has conspired to kill the innocent coming along his way and capture kingdoms. The beginning of the book showcases the story from Book 1, which gives you a fresh background and also sparks expectations from this book. As you proceed in the story - you would comes across the confidants of Ashwatthama such as Rana, Vikram, Sherya, Urmila... and many more, who help him in achieving his goals. During the story, Lord Hanuman narrates the story about the bow of Lord Rama. Lord Hanuman serves as a guiding force for Ashwatthama during his search for the bow. The story takes its own course where the asuras plan and attack Avni, before the army could be prepared. The plot takes you back to the days of Ravan's fight with Lord Rama, and journey of Pandavas to the road of heaven. The fight between Dandak and Ashwatthama come across as a nail biting event in the book. I would suggest mythology readers to grab this book as soon as possible.

Ashwatthama’s Redemption- The Bow of Rama

This is a sequel to the first part Rise of Dandak. The second part maintains the momentum of the book and is full of battle strategies and immense action. The story is so swift that the reader will just fly through the pages absorbing the absolute brilliance with which the story and the sequence is written. It joins the dots is full of mystical characters like Yeti(abominable snowman), Kimpurushas (half men-half horse) and their role in the battle against Adharma (injustice). I loved how the story hooks the readers to the last pages. The touch of characters like Hanuman(monkey god) , Panchrishis have put the magical touch. It is a story of incredible bravery and friendship. And of course The character of Ashwatthama ( who was cursed by Krishna to be immortal) has always intrigued me..and some crazy part in my heart will always want to see him some day before I say goodbye to this Kalyuga.. 🫠
Indian Mythology is so interesting and intriguing with layers and depth..♥️ It has my heart ♥️

Woww!!!

Looking forward to your works ahead. This duology is, after such a long time too, the one i could not wait to complete.. the description of the surroundings, the situations, the characters, were aptly given for our imagination to work upon, yet never letting it flow unguided. The only point i found that could have been a bit better is that the bells that were ringed during the fight of rakshastala, who rang those bells? Was it guru Agnishringa? If so, how did he know about the weakness and why did he not reveal it? If not, who was there at the temple in the depths of Himavant? Anyway, doubts apart, it has been a most fascinating journey, filled with sorrows and joys, duties and responsibilities, bondings and trust, a completely captivating story..

This is the second book in the series.
I love to read mythological fictions and the first book is among my favorites.
So i was super excited when this second book was released.
I must say this one is as good as interesting like the first one..

The book starts with the recap of the first book.. The plot is so well drafted and I love how story progress gradually. Not slow though . It is a fast paced book.

Ashwatthama with his friends are on a quest to face and defeat Dandak who is becoming more and more powerful.
All the characters situations are well built and explained.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.
A must for mythology lovers. Well thought and written sequel!

The book is the sequel to its first part RISE OF DANDAK.
The first part is about Ashwathama, Guru Drona's son, a cursed warrior in the Mahabharat. The story is based much later after the Kurukshetra war ended. The story is about Ashwathama saving the human race from the asuras.
This particular book continues the story from its first part. The book seemed a fast paced and not much of a drama. Not too much of twists and turns unfolding in the story. A light read, goood read.

Power-packed part 2!!
One of very few books which not only highlights the title lead, but glorifies most other supporting characters. Each one had a part to play!! Great story, blockbuster climax. When I was not reading it, I was thinking about the story!! Must read duology! Gunjan deserves the best!!

I must say that it was well written with a very good storyline for Ashwatthama. I must appreciate the writer to explore his character after the Kurukshetra war. I don't remember if anyone tried to explore Ashwatthama's character whereas everyone explored Pandavas and Kauravas. Also, it was a heart touching chapters where Hanuman & Krishna met with Ashwatthama and explained the events and life.

Wow, what a conclusion. Really enjoyed the duology.
The way the characters were built and way they were all closed in their own destiny...wonderful.

Gunjan Seema to have an innate talent of story telling.

Concepts of blending of mythology and imagination is done at the best. Gives some amazing unknown facts about some of the less known characters of Ramayana and Mahabharata. A very good read. I would have given 5 but I felt a bit of violence and deaths could have been reduced.

Good read

Very well written. The way this book puts purpose of Ashwatthama' s life, Krishna's curse and the way Ramayana, Mahabharata stories are interwoven. Great work.
