"You know what it’s like with these rumours, you never know if they’re true, or even where they get started half the time”
Quite content in just being a wallflower, Alex Evans wants nothing more than to serve his time at Ryden Highschool in peace.
After agreeing to tutor the cheer squad on an assignment though, Alex finds himself drawn into a bet, the results of which could change his life in ways he wasn't even aware he was ready for.
Now facing the world from an often stigmatised viewpoint, Alex will discover just how much influence rumours have over the way we see the world and other people around us.

This was a wonderful reading experience. It was a great deviation from the forced feminization theme. In this case, Alex, a student with a 4.0 GPA agrees to tutor the cheerleaders at his school for a modest fee. They make a bet that if they get an A on the first product he tutors, he will let them dress him up as a girl.
Of course, they get their grade and Alex agrees to the bet. In this case, he starts out to be reluctant, but by the time the girls are finished with him, he realizes that he is transgender and always was transgender.
Because he has been socially invisible, a common strategy of many transgender girls living as boys, he is able to quickly resolve his identity issues and transition.
This book addresses many different real issues experienced by transgender girls as they come out and start to transition. At the same time, there are some wonderful creations that make this story a delightful experience. I strongly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book

I laughed, I cried, I got angry and almost put down the book saying to myself no, no, no, just no! It should have a disclaimer to have a box of tissue handy. I love that it tied everything up at the end. You know, I’ve never thought of rumors that way before but it’s so true. I just loved the “Outhouse in a shit storm” analogy. We’ll written and a very good read.

needs editing

There is some very strange English grammar here. I’m not sure if the author is a native English speaker or not. Her knowledge of American football is humorous. There is some disconnuity Never any mention of Alexis having GRS. Good to see a book of this genre with depth of character lacking in 95% of those seen in Amazon.

like some of the other reviews I read, found myself being drawn into the story.
The journey she encountered as she moved along her transition was emotional and engaging.

While I was involved in her life, she was so lucky to have such a strong support system between family and friends.
As I kept hoping her father would change, he was also representative of a substantial portion of the population. Probably more so in the US than I assumed was Britain.
Yes, there were small details that cold should be fixed up, the usage of words not in line with US culture. Her constant reference to a specific girl as the "mousy girl", another was regularly called the "raven haired one".

These are small details in a strong story.

A realistic approach to the issues involved

As I have said before it’s the ones that you take a chance on that can surprise you, I was pleasantly surprised at how well written this was for a relatively new author. Honestly though the issues that this book tackles in its telling it does so realistically, enough so that they don’t feel like a plot device to advance the story. The separate issues interwoven so smoothly to be seamless, I won’t continue to wax lyrical about the story but just say that it’s well worth a read and one of the better ones I have read.

Lots of tears

I've literally just finished reading Rumours. I've cried a lot. Different types of tears. And it was like two books. I read the first half really quickly then lost interest (it is long!) then couldn't put it down as I read the second half. It's a wonderful book. Could have done with better proof reading. Lol. But it's my first Marie King novel and it won't be the last / Kelly J.

Rumours

The depth of involvement, of details, of plot and story makes it very hard to put this book down. As any good book should do, you don't read - you become a part of the flow of the story, as if you are in the story.
Exceedingly well thought out and put together, a great book by a very talented Author thank you

In a first perspective, a reader is never but in the shoes of the narrative.

It can be demanding, becoming who this novel presents you to be... but, it's so rewarding and Marie King makes it an eye opener. When you strech and reach this achievement of a thing, you feel different, you see different. You are different.

Take a few hours. Be different. It's beyond compare.

Great book

This is a wonderful book, regarding a young boy's transition to the woman she is meant to be. It shares all the ups/downs of her life as she becomes whom she was meant to be.

This was an amazing read, just fantastic, the drama, the journey, the happy moments, the scary moments, the heartwarming moments, just all of it was great. I loved Alexis and her struggle and in the category trans/coming of age this would be one of my all time favorites.

Truly a goodread

I enjoyed this book immensly, well written, good charters and a very nice story over all.
It is about a transgender main charter and her comming out and growing up.
And it is at times a very dark, hard and cruel read so please be warned!

had this book in my que for a while. Should have read it along time ago. This book holds your interest. Its a tale that is easily followed with a guessing game as to her Bio dad and along with the criminal side of it. Best part is that is it is brought to a conclusion. Great read.

I love this book so much. It might be because I can so closely relate to a lot of what Alexis Experiences. The author Marie King is British as many times she uses English terminology to describe American football among other things. I however found it endearing as having lived in England for a while.
I laughed, and I cried. No, I sobbed. Openly in public. The characters are so well written that you can't help but feel everything that they're going through. I've reread this 3 times now and want to watch the film.

The story is awesome! 😉 The writing could use an American editor ☹️

This story was SO good! I can’t begin to tell you how emotionally invested I became in Alex. Much of the story brought tears.

The writing, however, jarred me out of the story quite a bit. This is only because Marie King is obviously British, and used a lot of British slang in her writing of a story that seems to be set in the United States. As I am an American reader, I picked up on it right away. Words, like “pitch”, when describing a “football field”, for instance, need to be replaced with their proper American linguistic counterparts. To clean up those inconsistencies, the book could use a thorough going through by an American editor.

But, yeah, the story was awesome!

Wow, just wow.

I haven't enjoyed a book as much as I enjoyed this one. Emotionally, where do I start? Made me laugh, made me cry, especially at the rnd.
