📚'FABLE OF HAPPINESS'📚Is the third and final full length dark romance book in Pepper Winter's 'Fable' series. It picks up where the previous book left off. Spoken in 'Dual perspectives.'

Geez these authors lately have made it hard with the wording and writing up of reviews as I try not to divulge spoilers, so much happens in this book, every which way I go it will spoil it for you, so you need to go in blind.

The feels will hit you where they matter..

With how the previous book threw me over that cliffy this was the one book I've been anticipating like no other book before it.

Was the trespasser friend or foe?

This is by far my favourite book of the series, this took me on a more emotional ride than the others, I connected on a higher level, I fell deeper in love with this broken man, I felt everything I was meant to feel.

This book wrung every emotion out of me! My heart strings were played like a yo-yo, up and down, round and round, out of control, my tears fell freely, my heart broke, these broken souls had me glued to the pages never wanting this journey to end!

I loved this series from front to back, book after book, this ended with an open end, I have no idea how to word that, you'll understand when you get to it, I'm hoping she's done it like that so that she can come back to it in the future with a whole new carry on series? I have everything crossed in the very hopes that that happens!!

A whole new world!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💛🖤💜💚❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 🫣🤭🫠😮🥰

The heroine: Gemma - Taken captive while rock climbing far off the beaten path in Mammoth Cave National Park after trespassing into a stone mansion that was hidden in a forgotten valley. Gem has since fallen for the man who took her. She has empathy for what he went through and wants to help him.

The Hero: Kassen - he was the only one of his family left in his valley. He has lived alone for eleven years until Gemma arrived. Every time the memories of his abusive childhood would try to resurface, he would shove them into a box in his mind, though they have been pushing themselves back out more and more and he has been losing time and is afraid of what he becomes during those times.

The Story: Another huge cliffhanger ended the last book. I started this one right away after finishing, I just couldn’t wait to see what happened. A figure from Kas’s past resurfaces, threatens Gemma and brings about a big change.

The book was told in dual points of view and narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel. I loved the narration in these books, the narrators are perfect for the characters. I especially loved Tor Thom’s deep and menacing inner voice. Like the first two books, the narration in this one was dual narration in every chapter no matter whose point of view it was in.

I don’t want to give away anything more than I already did above, but to say that I really liked the fact that each book in this trilogy took an entirely different direction than the prior books and kept things very interesting throughout the trilogy.

Also I just can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed these books since I usually don’t like the tortured Hero trope, especially when they delve into the torture. But this series went deeply into Kas’s past and I liked it. It really showed how PTSD can affect a person, in a way, it is a commentary on getting over a tragic past. This was a terrific ending to a great trilogy.

THE EXPLOSIVE AND BEATIFUL ENDING I WAS WAITING FOR

“He wasn’t just beginning to live again. He was choosing to. A future where he was more than just happy. He was free.”

There is love, happiness, and light at the end of this tunnel. Kas and Gem – an epic romance that seared itself into my heart, made my pulse pound and heartbeat stutter, tickled my fear factor, embraced me in an edgy and incomparable love, broke my heart til it cracked, stole my mind and senses in a breathless rollercoaster of warring emotions, and melted me with an unpredictable vulnerability and redemption that set this hero apart from all PW’s others. Kas is nothing short of a self-sacrificing, noble savage lost in his tormented past, but hopeful for his future with no clear path how to get there. How can he fit into a world he doesn’t know or understand?

I felt glee and trepidation at the nail-biting, dark cliffy at the end of book 2. What glorious mischief did PW have up her sleeve? How would she resolve the tortured romance? How could Kas reconcile his grisly past with a future happiness of possibilities? I’ve learned one thing in all PW’s series: total unpredictability. Her creative mind is a tricky sidewinder of surprising twists and turns that shifts story direction on a dime, and always keeps me off-guard. This visceral love story didn’t evolve as expected, but took me exactly where I wanted to go and needed to be.

In the finale book, Kas’s past collides with his present in crafty ways. The couple would eventually need to leave the hidden valley and face the real world, but the way it happened left me stunned. I wasn’t sure I wanted it to happen the way it unfolded, and worried that the story might turn tame to achieve an HEA. There were so many fears and questions. Was Kas simply too damaged by Fables to exist in the real world? Was his violent nature manageable? What about his blackout rages? Was love enough to surmount all obstacles in the lovers’ path? Could he truly fit into Gem’s world?

The cliffy in Book 2 BLEW MY MIND with dark possibilities, but the uplifting direction of Book 3 gave me giddy hope for love in a real world test of Kas’s survivability outside Fables. He was like an alien, a babe in the woods, with no points of reference. 1 step forward, 3 steps back. Frustrations galore. There were some daunting obstacles for the lovers to face for sure, and it was no picnic for either one. Kas’s imploding impatience was grounded by Gem’s love and temperance. This couple was so perfectly matched, but their love and happiness was not assured.

My feelings yo-yoed with ups and downs and an uncertain mood as the end neared. Were they headed for a soft landing that would end the love story with a whimper, instead of a roar? There was my arrogant presumption that I’d seen and heard it all by this point ~~ that there would be no more surprises because I “had it all figured out.” Silly me. I feared there wouldn’t be a serious, shake-up to raise my blood pressure and unleash a big, catalyst moment … and then PW let it rip and slapped me between the eyes with even more surprises, twists, and a gut-wrenching, heart-palpitating homage to Kas that’s unforgettable.

Nothing is ever quite as it seems. Pepper Winters saved her best tricks and imaginative brilliance for last with a solid punch. If you fell in love with this couple during their heartbreaking journey, you will realize the beauty of their full-circle resolution. I cried. I cheered. I fist-pumped. It was beautiful, uplifting, and so fitting. Kas and Gem dragged me from the dark into the blinding light of love and happiness, choice and freedom.

Theirs was an exhausting journey of darkness, recovery and love in the best ways, as Pepper played me again so masterfully with all her sleight of hand. Leading me along with a gentle and rough hand, always taking my feet out from under me for assuming that I knew what she was doing, all while she actually played my emotions like a maestro. Being free and having a choice are important concepts in the finale. Kas’s turbulent navigation of Gem’s world makes things very hard-won for him, but blissfully satisfying. I loved watching him find that path … that grace …that light … to move on with his life and find forever HAPPINESS. The series did beautiful justice to him with a rare vulnerability that reminds me of beloved Ren. Kas was simply a beautiful character with a light and dark contradiction. That vulnerability inside him, despite all he’d endured gave him a special place in my heart. His strength and heroic selfless side still tug at me until I cry just thinking about it.

“It was you from the start. Pulling me back into the light. I’m free.” ~~ “I was hers. I’d chosen her. It was my choice.”

DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW - and books 2+3 in this series - IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE FIRST BOOK YET!

Gemma + Kassen #3

We all remember how the second book ended, right? Kassen wanted to let Gemma go, because he hated what he did to her while he was in one of his concussed 'moments'. So he runs away, hoping she'll be gone when he gets back, but that's not the case. She tries to find him, but she finds someone else.
Jareth. One of Kassen's Fable brothers.
What is he doing here? And why now, after so many years?

What will happen with Kas + Gemma?
Will we get a happy end?

READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT ... 😎

I really liked this last book. Well, it's not the last one. There are lots of Fable kids still left to tell us their stories. (GIMME!)
But this was Gemma and Kassen's final book - and I loved it.
I also loved finally seeing another living person in that house and in their life.
Jareth is even more dark and broken than Kas, it seems ... But he's also the push they needed to get out of their 'rut' in that house and get help for the dangerous concussed moments.
I really enjoyed this final book. It was so very sexy and dangerous and heartbreaking and scary ... but also so very hopeful and adorable and sweet and moving. We so hope that Kas and Gemma will get their happily ever after in the real world - but it won't be easy - IF it will happen at all.
Anyway - nothing more to say without spoiling too much.
Perfect final book for our two darlings - and now I can't wait to see what all the others will have to tell us!

FABLE OF HAPPINESS #3 was the perfect final book in Kas + Gemma's story! Beautiful. Sexy. Heartbreaking. Scary. Full of hope. READ IT!

It has taken me weeks to decide to write this review. I’m just gonna wing it at this point and write out my honest thoughts.

I’m a huge fan of this author. And this is my first series of hers that I’ve read that I just did not like at all.
The plot was fine, the characters were just horrible. The repetitiveness was so hard to read through without DNFing the series.
It’s the I hate you, I’m going to run, but I need to stay to care for you bullshit. Over and over again.

Book 3 starts right back where book 2 ends. Where we meet a side character and he has his own way of trying to help Kass get through his PTSD.
Of course Kass’s memories magically come back and he remembers Gemma and grovels. And says how sorry he is. It’s been like this over and over and over again throughout the books.
Of course the mansion went up in flames and that was how Gemma and Kass got out.
Of course they got away with everything that they have done especially Kass.
Of course he was magically put together and they get married and have an HEA.

I’m not one to tell people how to live their lives or question peoples love. But I had trouble believing in this love story. This was not a normal captive romance. Kass had zero redeeming qualities about him. He doesn’t know you, he doesn’t want you there, he rapes you, and he is constantly choking you until you pass out.

But you feel bad for him because in his sleep he talks about his past. And you feel like you have to stay there and help him? And then fall in love with him?
And when the sex is consensual, and he has flashbacks, and starts choking the shit out of you… come on.
Every action and emotion Gemma had, I just could not understand it. Instead of shoving the man off of a cliff and giving him a horrific concussion and possibly giving him brain damage for life, she should’ve left the first time she had the chance to seek help for herself and him if she truly cared. But of course we would not have this unnecessary dramatic story.

The whole series was just.. not it. And I hate saying this about author that I absolutely love.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I'm literally in tears.
I've never been so sad to leave a character, to finish a story.

This story, this trilogy is an emotional rollercoaster that drained me and left me empty but content in a way I can’t even explain.
I really don’t know how to put into words the immensity of each emotions,  each word, each character and action....

Pepper Winters has always amazed me with her books, but WITH THIS STORY SHE HAS OUTDONE HERSELF!!

To be honest i didn’t know what to expect at all at this point but she just gave me the end i needed without even knowing it.
Once again she stole my breath and my heart....

Kas own my heart now.
His struggles, his scars, his past, his strenght, everything make him imperfectly  perfect and having to leave him is pretty painful.
He fought so hard to be the man Gemma deserved, but he already was!!
And Gemma showed him he deserves just as much love, trusting him.
The kind of love they share is unbelievable and so powerful....

Pretty much like the second book, this one is not so dark (at least for me).
Apart from the beginning and some awful memories of Kas' past, the story is more emotional and introspective.
It's mostly about healing.
It's painful...
It's meaningful.
It's beautiful.

IT'S A STORY EVERYONE SHOULD READ!!

Ps. I'm sorry my review doesn’t explain anything but i'm an emotional mess thanks to Kas so that's the best i came up with🙈🤣

Gahhh! I knew it! I freaking knew it! Pepper totally just rocked my world with this last book. I knew she was setting something major up and I can’t freaking wait for it. This book is not for the faint of heart. This series isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a little dark and a whole lot twisted. Absolutely gut wrenching story but the strength and dignity that Kas gained throughout was completely astounding! I adore him! Gem learns so much about life though him. The good the bad and the oh so ugly. Brilliantly written and addictive! Pepper once again shows why she’s one of my all time favorites. Definitely not a series to miss!

Binge read this in a single sitting.

It started great, but towards the end, it kinda fell apart for me.

It didn't felt as exciting as the first 2 books, or even the first and middle portion of this book.

I swear, they never should have gone back to civilization, things got kinda mundane after that, and when I reached the last few pages I was like: What? that's it?

It didn't felt....conclusive.

Thank God Kassen's not real, every word in the dictionary seems to remind him of his awful past.

I think he got offended like 100 times here.

Sensitivity is definitely not my area of 🌟Speciality🌟

“We can’t predict the future or control every aspect of our lives, but we can choose to take it one step at a time.”

<><><><><><><><><>
CHARACTERS:
** Kassen: **
~ Held captive and sexually abused by sadistic people for years. He’s been isolated and secluded for the last eleven years.

**Gemma Ashcroft:** Age: 26, Rock Climber
- Gemma made a name for herself with her extraordinary climbing skills. Her You Tube channel catapulted her to a successful and financially profitable life.

<><><><><><><><><>
OVERALL PLOT:
When a new post on a climbing website catches Gemma’s attention, she knows she needs to check it out. However, when Gemma stumbles across a mansion in the middle of the forest, she’s not prepared for the man she encounters and he’s none too happy that she’s invading his space.

<><><><><><><><><>
Book 3 picks up exactly where the previous book left off - with a somewhat new character added to the lives of Kas and Gemma. And he definitely added some complexity to their little world.

So here we are - still at the Fable mansion. And, even with the addition of Jareth, the story started out with a little repetitiveness with the choking and I thought….ugh, not again. But, it took a big turn because Jareth was an “in the face” kind of character and he would not allow Kas to hide his demons. He pushed Kas to the extreme and forced him out of his comfort zone.

Hands down, I thought this was the best of the series. It was less repetitive, brought many more characters into the story and really tugged at the heart strings. There were some surprises along the way that connected characters in ways that were unexpected. But through it all, there was this thread of hope that continued to weave its way through the unfolding tale of Kas and Gemma.

In the end, Kas found a path to healing that worked for him, but everyone’s path is different. This book packed an emotional punch that even had me in tears for a little bit. I felt much closer to Kas and Gemma and their connection was very strong and believable. And Kas….Gah!!! He fought so hard not to let the demons consume him. I loved him in this book. ❤️

After the separation of the Fable kids in book one, I wondered if they would ever see each other again. Throughout this series, I was really hoping it would end with all of them safe and united once again. By the end, I realized I was naive to think it would end with all of them living a life full of happiness. And they didn’t deserve some fake HEA just to make a reader happy. Geez - they went through unimaginable hell and some were just not going to come out ok.

This ends with a HEA for Kas, and after Jareth’s introduction in this book, I’m looking forward to what Fable of Monsters will bring.

“I saw every broken piece that might never glue back into the right order, but they would glue into something. They would find their place, they would form into something valuable, and eventually, they’d be stronger than anything before.”

Pepper Winters is a master story-teller. Gripping, Gracious and twisty, The Fable Of Happiness grabs readers from the very first page and never lets go.
A riveting tale of love, sacrifice and courage. This Scintillating journey comes to an end with this book, but the memorable characters shall remain with us always. Pepper weaves a thrilling yet heartbreaking end to a wonderful tale of children lost into the rabbit hole of dark underbelly of society.

description

These are disposable children, nobody notices or mourns their disappearance. No one balms their scars, or embraces their demonic nightmares. Pepper's atmospheric and suspenseful novel explores the complicated relationship between two victims, one who was abducted and somehow survived and the one that walks into his lair accidentally and is now trapped.
It's a symbiotic relationship of forgiveness & healing through unconditional love, that takes the main focus in book 3.

description

"I didn’t know how to live with myself anymore. How to choose which side of me to become and which side to eradicate once and for all."

Kassen Sands is scared to venture out of a prison of his own making. His brain and his soul have become an intrinsic part of this godforsaken mansion, tethered by poisonous ivy.
Gemma Ashford somehow manages to cut through all his shackles but the last thread needs a catalyst and THAT is the surprise element of the story.

description

“Try putting yourself first for once. Not her. Not me. Not them. Stop fucking yourself over by staying here. This place is sick. It’s making you sick.”

This sudden twist gave me a whiplash and left my jaw hanging open. But WHAT A SURPRISE!!!!
Events happen at a far racier speed than earlier books, the struggles of re-acclimatisation,anxiety of re-entry into civilisation and travails of a panicked heart.

description

"Who the fuck am I?
And who did I want to become?
In reality, that question was simple.
I was free.
Free.
And for the first time, I was afraid of that word. Afraid of the sheer size of it.
The weight of it.
The overwhelming shock that I was free, but I had no idea how to be free."

description

I need to mention that there are two scenes that Stand out nearer to climax. One in the woods where Kassen finds his sorta comrade-in-arms and the Tom factor. Both were gruelling and disturbing to start with but they both lead towards a path of peace and acceptance. This unexpected Turn of events and characters alone is worth 5 stars in my humble opinion.

“Because our connection isn’t skin deep. I’m a firm believer that when you meet the one, it’s not the cells that make up our body that sit up and notice, but our soul.
I felt you inside me—not just inside my heart but bigger than that. You were familiar and new, scary and safe, mine the moment I met you.”

description

Excellent storytelling skills combined with deeply moving sentiments seem to be Pepper's signature style, flourishing in dull regalia in this heartfelt series.
This must-read book/series is mesmerizing, captivating, and profound.
5 stars for A threadbare Prince living in a forgotten mansion and his sidekick, Fang

Mesmerized once again by Pepper Winters’ brilliance in delivering dark tales from the beginning to the end without slipping or loosing the initial plot line.Fable of Happiness was truly a magnificent trilogy about survival, hope, finding happiness after a very dark time, and being in peace with the person who can heal you.I was blown away by all the twists and turns and could not predict what would happen next while reading the book.
I’d highly recommend this to dark romance enthusiasts who don’t mind the lengthy list of trigger warnings (refer to my review for book 1 to see them).Fable shares elements with Pepper’s earlier works but I believe each book requires a specific mindset in order to be enjoyed the best.
Kassen and Gemma will always stay with me.Such an amazing couple with so much growth in these three books.

Star Rating : 5/5 Stars

POV : Dual

Cliffhanger : No

Hero : Kas

Heroine : Gemma

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 8/10

Heat Rating : 6/10

Triggers Involved : Past trauma of physical and sexual abuse

Plot Summary :
Nothing ever goes according to the plan for Gemma. The same man who was the very definition of a Monster, she fell for him. Every breath she takes is for him. The same man who once bound her in his basement now wants her to leave him alone. To run away and go back to her life. Only it's too late. For both of them. Because the past He had been running from has come to knock on their door. And this time there is nowhere for them to run. It's either Death or facing the demons that once threatened to kill them all.

Overall Opinion :
Omgg. I don't know how pepper does it. Every book of hers has this crazy amount of emotion that no other author has ever achieved with me. Her books are dark and raw. She doesn't hold back once she goes into the head of her characters and that is what differentiates her from other authors for me. I am so freakin sad that Gemma and Kes's journey has finally come to an end. After the cliffhanger of the second book, I knew that nothing will be the same. The entry of a certain new character was bound to cause chaos and I was going to enjoy every damn word of it!

This book was definitely the longest one in all the books of this series and it was definitely my most favorite one too. All the things in it were perfect. We got a lot of answers in this one and the ending broke me so bad! It was the prettiest end ever. I am so excited for the other stories from this world because I can already tell that they will be the best. The angst, the darkness and all those emotions are going to be so amazing! I hope Pepper gives us the next books soon because I am waiting anxiously for these!

This whole trilogy if full of many many triggers such as Non consentual scenes as well as flashbacks full of torture and horror that no one should ever suffer from. I am mentioning this because not a lot of people prefer to read books with these triggers. This is honestly one of my top reads but make sure to check the triggers before picking these up! That being said I would highly recommend this whole freaking trilogy to all the dark romance loving people out there.

Sensational ending to Kas and Gemma's story!
We finally find out who the man in the tunnel was from the end of book 2, and oh my goodness! You all are not ready for this!!
This couple's relationship has been tumultuous and gripped with sorrow and despair. They clash and fight, they come back together again, only to push themselves away once more. This to and fro, back and forth, is frustratingly them. I become so emotionally invested in what they are doing, saying, and feeling.
I love how Pepper Winters uses animals to show us how to trust, how to love, and how to feel. She brings us back to our primal instincts to show us the base of human kind, the natural link of faith to our baser needs, and that love will always prevail.
She reminds me to have faith in those around me, to live each day to the fullest, and to love with my whole heart.
6 genuine heartfelt stars!

This was an amazing read, Kassen & Gemma a broken man taking his life back after so much wrong & a woman standing by him while he works through all his demons. Not able to put this emotional book into words and love to see every moment & journey that Kas went through and being reunited by a family that wasn't blood but shared every pain. A brother that love Kas so much for enduring and watching over them as kids that he allowed him to heal and went out to find all the missing brothers and sisters they had. Awesome read!!!

Kassen and Gemma’s tumultuous journey concludes in Book three of their story. They have such a raw and emotional charged connection but is it based in trauma or truth? “Kindness and kisses might’ve destroyed me, but she…she might of finally set me free.” My heart breaks for all that Kas and the other fables children endured. Be prepared as this still deals with some very difficult topics including abuse, captivity, mental health and can be a trigger for some. This is an emotional and unique romance about finally being free after the horror’s endured and maybe even make you feel things you haven’t before. Beautifully heartbreaking journey but worth it in the end. I need to know Jareth’s story now! Told in dual POV

The heart-stoping conclusion this story deserved❤️. I must confess that it took me 2 days to read this book. I have finished all of Pepper’s book within a few hours, but this, this needed to be savored. I didn’t want to finish this so quick because I was dreading the end. Kassen capture my heart in the best of ways and that end?! What an epic conclusion it was!!! I’m trying to keep my review as spoiler free as possible and so the main question from most of you is, did Kass get the happiness he deserve ? Yes! He absolutely did, and Gem was with him through out it all. In this book we get to meet Jareth and fuck, he might be just as addicting as Kassen. I can’t wait for his Fable of Monsters🖤. This book is filled with so much love, understanding, and so, so much healing you feel it in your veins. Pepper you are amazing! You could never disappoint! Another masterpiece from you and I can’t wait for more of this amazing Fable Universe of yours !

This is much more than the story of Kassen and Gemma. This book in the series touched on some deeper issues than just being a dark romance. The reality of the exploitation of children and youth is deplorable and the way Pepper Winters brings out that harsh actuality within the context of this story is strikingly significant.

What Kas went through while repatriating into society was palpable and heart rendering but with Gem at his side every step of the way he persevered and ultimately focused his ongoing survivorship for the betterment of other survivors.

This is one of my favorite series in the literary world of Pepper Winters!

Beautifully written, full of strength, passion, and the undeniable connection of two souls destined for each other. The strength and chemistry of the H and h is incredibly beautiful. I absolutely am in love with Gemma and Kas.

First of all I want to thank Pepper Winters and Danielle for providing me with an arc to read and review this book. It means the world to me. Thank you so incredibly much! <3
I absolutely loved the final book in this trilogy. A part of me expected a very dark book. But this book isn't dark at all. It shows the brilliant growth both Gemma and Kassen go through. He still is himself, and he still is battling his past. But there are so many positives in their story. It tore at my heartstrings and I am so incredibly proud of the both of them.

The book picks up right after book two in this series. Gemma runs after Kassen. But she gets grabbed and tries to free herself. But quickly she recognizes huge parts of Kas in the intruder. And she figures out that he is one of the Fable children.

I love how Pepper approached Jareth’s character. I don’t want to spoil to much. But he is so incredibly damaged. He is living for one thing and one thing only. To save his brothers and sisters. You can feel the pain and hurt in everything he says and does. But he still has the capability to help his brother. To force his brother to continue healing. Forcing him to overcome some of his demons. He never even met Gemma. But I love how instinctively protective he is of her.
What he does to set his brother free was so painful, but so incredibly necessary. I will love him forever for that.

And that is where the growth of Kassen starts. Suddenly he is trust into the human world. Who are humans? How do they interact? What are the dangers of living amongst them.

I love how much they Gemma and Kas love each other. How they are both able to see past the other one’s shield. How truly accept one another. Give each other space and time. And giving in to that all-consuming connection.
Seeing them grow made my heart and soul grow with them.

At first I was like, how can Kas live without thinking 24/7 about Jareth and the job he has to do.
But I realised soon that Kas first needed to heal, before he could be there for his brothers and sisters.

SPOILER ALERT: My favourite scene was when Kas is reunited with Quell. Man that made my heart pound and made me cry tears of joy.
I love how he built foundations for other damaged souls. To help them heal and grow. And I absolutely love that vow of vengeance near the end!

I cannot wait to read Jareth’s story. Quell’s story. The story of the others. I cannot wait to read how they all get vengeance. I cannot wait to read what happened to them after they fled from Fable.

A part of me even hopes Tess and Q will make an appearance in the following Fable books! Q is still my favourite Pepper character ever. And I do hope he will help them get vengeance. But I do understand if he never pops up. But my heart is missing him. And I cannot wait to get a snippet of him in any future book of Pepper.

I am just so happy Kas found his freedom within Gemma. How they are intertwined and eternally connected.
A beautiful book with a beautiful ending for them.
Pepper you wrote another masterpiece!

I am ready for the next instalments of this series!

“Everyone is a slave if they’re in love…”

Oh my God, I don’t even know where to begin with this review, this book broke me, it destroyed every part of me, Kassen and Gemma are such an explosive couple; I can’t give any spoilers BUT I can say that the two previous books didn’t prepared you for the happily ever after in the last book of this unique trilogy.

In this book, Gem learns so much more about the past of Kas, learns how to love him just the way he needs; they both deserved the most amazing ending and Pepper Winters did not disappoint, once again she gave us a story full of love, drama, lust, triggers, and just everything that is part of a one of a kind dark romance. Keep in mind that this trilogy is part of a series, a very dark romance series, that promises a happily ever after for all the main characters in the Fables.

You’ll fall in love with Kassen and Gemma, their unconventional love story full of primal chemistry will burn you to your core!!!

Pepper blew this one out of the water. The finale to Gem and Kassen has left me with so many feels.

Kas bared his soul in this book. He is raw, honest and we get to witness him go from beast to man. His struggles are real and I absolutely loved seeing him grow, adapt and evolve.
Gem is a pillar of strength and so instrumental to Kas’ development.
I feel in love with Jareth and I’m just dying to read more about his plight. He is going to be on dark, mysterious and moody MF.

Thanks Pepper for another great read. I’m itching to get my hands on the rest of the Fable family.

⭐️5 unlimited amount of stars ⭐️

Sinfully dark, an highly intensive emotional story to be read with abandon, get ready to part with your heart and soul because Kas will surely own them.

Book three brings us to the heart breaking end of Kassen and Gemma’s story. No words can compute the magnificence of this whole story. Once again Pepper spins a tale full of soul and feels, her amazing mind brought to life a new universe I can’t wait to explore again.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙡𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙙𝙚, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙨𝙣𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙨 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙠𝙚 𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩, 𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙚, 𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚, 𝙠𝙞𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙚

Gem and Kas didn’t have an easy journey, their path was full of pain and indescribable trauma, the extent of strength both have is priceless. Ms Winters masterful storytelling takes us on an adventure that choked me with emotions, I won’t deny it was impossible not to shed a few tears (have your tissues handy my fellow readers), among all this pain we still find a light at the end of tunnel. This author brings hope where none could be found, the characters developed beautifully during the story, they overcome so many obstacles both mental and physical. Their bond keeps growing along with their chemistry that bears the explosive trademark this author is known to deliver.

"𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙞𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨, 𝙂𝙚𝙢𝙢𝙖 𝘼𝙨𝙝𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙙"

Kas is amazing, his fierceness, loyalty, strength and self sacrifice are boundless, his healing process such a struggle, I cheered him while feeling his pain, that’s how good the writing in this book is, I could feel every pull and push I was there with the characters, going through the motions and living every single leash on my skin.

"𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧, 𝙆𝙖𝙨"

Gemma is an absolute force of nature, her hope and life brought such an healing touch, she never wavered, never tired, never once she was afraid, so brave in protecting and defending, her nurturing nature always a constant.

𝘾𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙢𝙚

Although this is Kas and Gem’s story we also see glimpses of what’s to come in the future, I was so engrossed in this narrative I greedily took any crumbs Ms Winters threw my way. I’m overjoyed over the epilogue of this masterfully written story. I can’t wait to go back to this Universe to read more of these world and have my heart broken again over these soul shattering survivors’ stories.

Pepper Winters brand of dark storytelling is truly unparalleled-the poetic ways she creates beauty in depravity, healing in the baser needs of humanity. Her stories are psychologically complicated while still being deliciously entertaining. And this series is that, though it’s been a bit of a conundrum for me- in that I respect it’s artistry, even it’s not been my favorite.

While I love her work, this trilogy didn’t quite sparkle for me like some of her other stories. The premise is brilliant and intriguing, the architecture strong, but the pieces didn’t quite come together for me in the end. The last two installments while on their own would certainly feel interesting, but the narrative felt stagnant and repetitious throughout the last two books. Sure, I get establishing a frustrating relational pattern is both a manifestation of Kassian’s issues as well as builds more urgency, but at times I found myself skimming or disenchanted, which never happens for me in a Pepper book. The twists and wrinkles were abundant- and without the repetition I think I found have found them exciting, salacious even- but I ended up feeling even more perturbed by the lack of forward momentum some of them caused.

Ultimately, the pace does accelerated, and I was highly engaged in the back half. These two very complicated, toxically in love characters finally do get their HEA- the fable finds the ultimate promise it’s title foretold- we get HAPPINESS. We get some healing, some closure, and some progress. But I can’t say that the conclusion felt satisfying for me. In part because I’m not sure Kassen every evolved in the way that some of Pepper’s other heroes have- and perhaps that’s really the moral of the fable after all, not all stories end with all the answers, or neatly- just as all love is not bright and neat- Cassen and Gemma certainly are a testament to that.

Mad props to Pepper Winters for always creating such an inventive story telling- for not being scared to take literary risks and to dabble deeply in the darkest corners of the human heart and mind. The themes I cherish in her work are here, even if I felt less invested in their culmination in the end. But the novelty and creativity here I still applaud, even if this series was a bit less satisfying for me overall.

This book and this series; what can I say, it left me shaken to the core yet again. If you have read books 1 and 2 then you already know what this series is all about. With that being said I must say that Pepper Winter’s writing style has you feeling every emotion that Kas feels in how he struggles with the past and with his horrific nightmares (which had me in tears). You also see how he handles each day in this new world with Gemma and how her love grounds him and makes him whole.

As for Gemma, she is such a strong character and has so much patience, compassion, understanding and love for this broken man. We watch her heal him day by day. It is so heartwarming. By the time you finish this book you have so much hope that even shattered souls can be healed and mended .. by love.

Wait, I have to wipe my eyes and blow my nose yet again.

In closing, the ending was all I could have hoped for and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Jareth will have his HEA in hopefully another book in this series? However, in the meantime, I so smile at his end goal…

This series is dark but so worth the investment. I believe it will open eyes and hopefully may lead someone to be a Gemma and help a Kassen!

Thank you Pepper Winters for opening our eyes to evil and the opposite, Love!

It also deserves more than 5 Stars!!

**FULL TRILOGY – SPOILER-FREE REVIEW**

‘That was all I was now. A beast. A forest dweller who wasn’t fit for society. And it was all their fault.’
‘She can never go back. She knew too much now. She could never be trusted.
And…I want to keep her.’

We decided to read the Fable of Happiness series in one hit, and what an emotionally draining journey that turned out to be! Going into this very dark romance by Pepper Winters, we can’t say we were fully prepared, though we had an inkling it wouldn’t be an easy read. It wasn’t. We’re huge fans of dark romance, it provokes an emotional response, it makes you question yourself and if written as superbly as this series is by Pepper Winters, it makes you fall deeply in love with flawed characters whilst developing an understanding of their inner turmoil and consequent actions. Dark, disturbing, and horrifying – yes absolutely – but it was also hopeful, cathartic, inspiring, and passionate. It was quite the brutal yet epic journey and love story and for Kassen Sands and Gemma Ashford.

‘He kissed me as if he’d never known kindness. As if pain was the only thing to set him free. I couldn’t stand it. Stop! … I lost. I kissed him back. And. That. Was. It.’

“The longer I keep you alive, the greater the chance I have of being happy…even if it’s for a short while.”

Good versus evil is woven into an erotic and passionate tale of despicable villains versus unlikely subservient heroes in a dark and twisted reality of love and hate. Unhealthy relationships rising out of the fire, cleansed, and purified by compassion and understanding. Book one slayed us, Book two shook us to the core, and book three slowly healed us. We must mention the beauty amidst the ugly, highlighting the important roles that nature and animals play in our mental health, healing, and well-being.

‘He’d sacrificed himself for those he loved. And now, he had nothing left.’
‘Kas was rough and wild and unstable, but perhaps that was the healing process for someone who’d only just come back to life? He’d spent a decade just existing, turning off his humanity, willingly slipping into loneliness and endless monotony.’

Pepper Winters took an old as time fairy-tale concept and wrote it in that twisted way of the dark world of the Brothers Grimm before they were made palatable for little as well as big ears. The Fable of Happiness gave us a whiplash of emotions. We felt exhausted, tearful, relieved, happy, devastated, and scared. Emotions on a wheel of repetition meant we never felt truly safe. We were hamsters unable to get off. There’s that proverbial saying of the thin line between love and hate, and never was that more evident than in this story. There were moments we struggled with the characters for different reasons, as whilst the sexual chemistry was off the charts, despite the origin of the beginning, it did at times blur the lines of being overly excessive and repetitive in such a heart-breaking story of physical and mental survival.

‘I was ready for it. I wanted the good and the bad, the happy and the sad. I wanted to be beside him every step of the way. Because I love him unconditionally.’

‘I’d chosen my new master. I’d chosen her. It was my choice.’

The twists, suspense, depravity, and compulsions had our pulses skyrocketing in horror and discomfort. The broken hearts, broken minds and scarred bodies had us crying till our eyes hurt and blurred the words. We both agreed, that as the books progressed so did our enjoyment of them, the third book being our favourite out of the three. It truly knocked us for six and we felt absolutely everything Pepper Winters intended us to feel. Truly explosive, truly heart-stopping, and truly compelling. This series is not for the faint of hearts, but we were compelled with a journey that took over our lives for a while as we needed to know, needed to understand, needed to heal as Kassen Sands captured our hearts. We definitely recommend this trilogy to readers of dark romance who enjoy love stories that push boundaries and romances that take you outside your comfort zone. On the last note, we would love to hear more from the other characters who suffered alongside Kas, and hope Pepper Winters agrees!

This is far from a perfect series. But damn, if it's not enjoyable.

There are cliffhangers, concussions, and chains - but also, really well developed characters who have buckets of trauma without easy answers.

Fable of Happiness should've never been a trilogy. Standalone, a duology even, but never this third book.
It's all about Kas' healing, but it's actually just cringey sex scenes and meaningless conversation. I grew so tired of them both that it took me whole 6 months to finish this!
First book I enjoyed very much, the sequel was almost a copy of the first book - Gem tries to run away, Kas catches her. Rinse and repeat. No wonder I started hating the story and caring less and less about their HEA.
I wanted him to have opportunity to heal, but I expected it to happen in the sequel, and by the time I started (and finished #3), I just didn't give a damn.
