Wow, Hougatsu's been so annoying with her apathy the whole volume, making me want this rate 2 or 3 stars at most, but then the last chapter was so cute and much more lively that 3 stars feel way too few. Oof, author, why.
Been a while since I've read volume 3, but I'm pretty sure Hougatsu wasn't that apathetic the previous volumes, right? More and more it feels like she's becoming an empty shell.
And poor Sakura. She's really trying her best, also with overcoming her social anxiety. Yet there's so many signs that Hougatsu doesn't see more than a little sister that needs to be cared for. It also hurts cause their relationship more and more reminds me of a friendship I had. I was similar to Adachi, I hadn't seen the signs before it was too late, which still eats at me now, years later.
I hope she's gonna be okay, but I feel like she's gonna overflow with that newfound courage, so much that she's gonna pass out or something.
Overall there was barely any progress, much more of a low, but the last 2 chapters seemed promising. As it is always. Can't really see where the author plans on going with them, but I'll continue anyways.
Another volume where we get a lot of introspection for Adachi and the majority of Shimamura’s POV is about her relationships with others. This starts with her hanging out with her childhood friend and it really conveys the distance between her and Adachi. It’s volume 4 and I don’t quite feel certain she even likes Adachi.
It’s quite sad because it’s clear how much Adachi is desperate to be close to her. I’m sure I entirely get the appeal of this series. I think I’d rather read about the classmates that are Shimamura’s friends. They seem super close.
The first volume was a bit slow for my taste and the little alien girl (I forget her name) really annoyed me. The second volume was still painfully slow and nearly uneventful, but at least that annoying little girl wasn't in it and Adachi made some progress with Shimamura! Volume three was once again terribly slow-paced and left me screaming for them to just kiss already! People were saying the manga was too fast paced and didn't go as in depth with their relationship as the light novel did... that being said, I'm glad I chose the manga. The fourth volume was anticlimactic and disappointing. I was really looking forward to a great shoujo ai, and this one was so hyped, but fell flat.
It’s really not a romance if you’re 4 books in and close to nothing has happened between the supposed pairing. It’s actually a little weird because although I do find Adachi’s crush on Shimamura sweet from her perspective, when we’re in Shimamura’s eyes she just seems possesive and Shimamura sees her more as a sister so that’s really strange. I’m not sure if this would even classify as a romance when we don’t even know if Shimamura is actually queer?? Idk I don’t think I’ll continue this series because it’s clearly going nowhere :-[
3 stars. Extremely lackluster and disappointing ending. Shimamura seems to only tolerate Adachi’s clingy ass. There’s no romance here at all and ends abruptly. I’m not giving this less than three stars only because I’m not giving up on this series just yet. I hear that the light novels are much better and the girls get together in those so I will be moving on to those and hoping for the best.
Nothing is happening with this plot or its characters. It was a slow story which was absolutely fine, but volume 4 stalled completely. Nothing of interest whatsoever. In a slow moving story at least you get an interesting bit of dialogue or something. Not with this. I’m done with this manga.
April 2023. Vol 3 and 4 of a girl love manga about two high school girls who are becoming best friends over high school, one of who is realizing she has a crush on the other. Didn’t do much since I’ve been home sick this week but did read these quick easy manga from the library. It goes through some familiar beats for high school manga (wanting to see each other on vacations or holidays, uncertainty on how to handle White Day/Valentine’s Day) but there’s nothing particularly significant or unique about it. Really the only unique element is the one with the crush, Adachi, frequently being super awkward in ways that feel too exaggerated to be realistic or funny and being in her own head a lot. This is a series I’d get around to more of it I can borrow it for free from the library, but I wouldn’t buy it or request the library order more of it for me to read. It’s pretty bland and generic, and doesn’t have enough sweetness or humor to make up for the slow pace or awkwardness. “Adachi and Shimamura” vol 3-4, manga by Moke Yuzuhara, based on the light novel by Hitoma Iruma.
This was a really cute volume. There was a bit of hinting at a triangle thing but the majority of this volume really focused on our two MCs and I was very grateful for that. There was quite a bit of development here and it has me eager for volume 5.
This was a good volume, enjoyable plot, good pace, good artwork. Still not sure if I will continue the series, but more because of my own feelings rather than the fact it is a bad series.
