Woah! I did not see that coming! This conclusion to the Relic Trilogy had twists and turns that kept me guessing. Bravo, Claudia! This trilogy grabbed my attention from book one with it's captivating story and smooth writing style. There's not much I can say without giving things away, but all I really need to say is everyone should read this trilogy. Whether you think you like Sci-Fi or not, you'll like it. Just do it.

The planet is being torn apart and they realise that it is due to the time rift Ravenne opened all those years ago, trying to go back in time to save her daughter Horizon from dying in the rocket liftoff which was her crowning work demonstration. It seems someone has finally managed to save her, but the Ravenne that Horizon sees, is not the mother she knew back then. There are in fact two Ravennes, one is much older and very cruel in her countenance and actions, whilst the other is determined to save her daughter, no matter what happens to anyone else. The second has her own escape plan with her daughter, but hasn’t realised just how closely Horizon is tied to the fate of the planet! Duff and Willow, a Seer, and Rin are stuck with Ravenne, whilst Z, Gabriel and Matilda are stuck trying to get over a bridge as the mountain starts to shake. Z falls and Matilda comes down to help him, leaving Gabriel with the weight of both of them and unable to pull them up. Matilda can’t allow Z to touch her skin at all, as her nanites are deadly to everyone! Z has fallen for Matilda ages ago and would love to kiss her, but knows he can’t due to her nanites, remembering the desiccated body of the demon back in the orphanage. Z wants them to find the other survivors and get back to the scientists, to find out if they have any ideas about how to save the planet and stop the time rift destroying the planet. Ravenne knows there were demons on the planet when she first arrived with the colonists, but aliens had first landed on the planet, yet disappeared long ago. They are stuck within the demon’s tunnels under the mountain, and it is Willow’s seer ability to hear the time currents as songs, that helps to lead them to a safe route out, but she needs the help of Horizon as well, who can see doorways to where they want to go, but only a few of them can go through at a time and she is the only one who can see them.

Time is not exactly acting as they think it should, as when Ravenne and the group get out of the mountain, it should be dark, but it isn’t. First, they have to avoid the horde of demons near the tunnel entrance, but they have travelled through time and one minute the demons are there and the next they have all disappeared. Z had promised the demon leader that he couldn’t allow the time rift to burst, but has no idea how they can do that. The only idea he has is that they must return Horizon to the place where she died, so that time will not be disrupted to start with! Noah is the head of the scientists, and young Simon is also with them. He is like a walking computer, something rare on the surface, where any technology would draw the wrath of demons. The scientists, with Simons help, have been able to monitor the odd activity of the time particles. The old, scary Ravenne is the one who created a tie machine to save her daughter, not knowing then, that her actions would trigger the time rift and all of her going back and forth in time, had only made it more unstable! Matilda’s nanites are getting affected by the experiments the scientists are running and if she loses control of them, she could kill everything and everyone on the planet. She has to leave with Z, Duff and Gabriel, to return to a place run by the Families and which they discover is not actually on the planet! Ravenne has managed to get away with Horizon and they must find out where she has taken her, because if they can’t, they believe the planet will be lost to the time rift getting more and more unstable. They will have to battle against Ravenne, both versions of her, to save their friends and the planet itself. Their thoughts of sacrificing Horizon to save everyone else are flawed, but the only one they know might work. Ravenne has realised her mistake and now needs the others to help her. Time is getting limited before disaster hits and they will be out of time. The time rift is getting ever more unstable and the answer to stop it coming apart, is far different than any of them could have imagined. A surprising end to this storyline, with them learning there is far more to Horizon than they know and she is still key to the time rift staying closed, as is a mysterious figure they saw in the trees, and the two of them are ultimately the key. They need to find out the truth and make sure she stays safe until the time comes for her to save them all once more!

After rescuing Horizon and promising to keep the time rift from exploding, Z-Crew must find each other and figure out how to stop the destruction. Pulling Horizon out of time has set in motion events that will lead to the destruction of time and the planet. They must work with Ravenne… to stop Ravenne. But will they have enough time?

Book two ends mid-action and book three picks right back up in this action and doesn’t stop. Book three is like a continual drawn-out climax with some travel in-between. Not just travel by foot but also time travel. This third book gets more into the nitty-gritty science fiction aspect that was hinted at in the previous two books of the series. At times I got lost with the description and action in and around this time travel as it became more and more entwined into the plot and scenes of the novel.

If you like a page-turner that doesn’t slow down, you’ll enjoy this fast-paced finale. I would have liked to see more character nuances and some slower-paced scenes or perhaps more attention to subplots, but that’s just my preference.

The ending was satisfying and thankfully answers all the open questions from the previous two novels.

Time is Unraveling . . .

This fast-paced conclusion to the Trilogy will keep the reader’s head spinning as a desperate situation needs to be resolved. Horizon is rescued, but there are unforeseen repercussions when time begins to unravel. Duff and Z-Crew realize that the only way to fix this and save time and the world is to return Horizon to stabilize the time rift. But after their enemy Ravenne finally has her daughter back from the past, she will fight against them taking her away again. Nothing else matters to Ravenne. Can they try to change her mind? Can they win fighting against her? Or is there nothing they can do to stop the disaster?

Loved this one as well. Book draws you in and you don't want to put it down. Fast paced, clean and full of adventure. Working together and giving someone a second chance are good take aways from book. Feeling of completion with this book. Kvs others that leave on cliffhanger. Although I could see more.... later.

2 Ravenne, saving the world, time issues, aliens, demons, scientists, odd creatures, saving a young girl, working together, Second chances, time travel, enhanced people, seers.

Another amazing story. Duff wants to save the world, but something seems to stand in his way. Another person, Horizon. How will he get around this safely. Full of action, loved it.
