Stolen diamonds, purple goo, and a zero gravity baby...
...all in a day's work for a Triana Moore.
The former space janitor returns to her mother's estate on Kaku to plan her wedding. Or, as she soon discovers, to be ignored while the SK'Corp public relations machine plans the event of the galaxy.
Overruled at every turn and stalked by CelebVid--a viral video outlet--Triana does what she does best and goes underground. When she befriends the son of a deposed dictator, everything goes sideways.
On the run from rogue secret police, things start to get sticky--Space Janitor style. Will Triana escape and figure out what the heck is going on? Of course she will! She might even save the day.
Join Triana, O'Neill, Vanti, and Kara for another crazy adventure full of humor, heart, and delicious pastries.
Author of the Colonial Exploration Corps, Space Janitor, Recycled World, and Krimson Empire series.
I grew up in the US Pacific Northwest, and after twenty years roaming the country with the US Air Force, I'm back. I have a spouse, three kids, and a dog named Pippin.
I've been an IT guy, a choir director, an executive assistant, a stay-at-home mom, a college instructor, and that lady at the information booth in a tourist town. But writer is the best job ever, because I get to make stuff up. Stuff I wish were true; stuff I'm glad isn't true.
When I'm not writing, I like to knit, read, bake, and ski. I also love to travel.
Pausing a career in space to become domesticated has humor, mayhem and a little violence-4.5 stars
Finishing up a project on a space station, one last task is to inspect a nearly-finished food-growing facility. Triana narrates that she sees a diaper-clad, pre-toddler in the unfinished room. The child is having a grand time giggling and drooling as she tumbles in the construction area without apparent oversight. Some of the hydroponics support is destroyed while capturing the free-floating child. It is a great start to an odd adventure.
Triana is a few weeks away from her wedding to a security specialist, Ty, who happens to work for the mammoth company that her mother owns. You might think that Triana is a rich kid coming home but she is down to earth as much as a space jack of all trades can be. She enjoys eating without getting overweight.
The story brings glimpses of extreme wealth and privilege and political intrigue. The adventure includes kidnapping, advanced theft deterrence, fashion design, gourmet cooking and planetary coups. People disguise themselves, some better than others, while security systems are hacked. Traditional locks are broken as easily as cyber locks.
It is a fun romp, not to be taken seriously unless you are the mother of the bride who wants to make a company marketing exercise of her daughter's wedding. Triana wants simple; her mother wants over-the-top. Not deep but still enjoyable where Triana discovers secrets that her (mother's and future husband's) security company miss.
I've kind of fallen into Ms. Huni's stories, nice space opera's with fun interactions between characters; a good thing when put together right and Ms. Huni does a pretty good job with putting it together right. The latest in Ms. Huni's Space Janitor series (right or wrong Tales of Space Janitor and Tales of a Former Space Janitor are one series in my book) furthers the story of Annabelle/Triana. Now she's getting ready to get married to her boyfriend Ty. The interesting aspect here is Annabelle/Triana appears to be starting to accept her role as her mother's heir holding her wedding at her mother's place on Kaku. As always there's a twist that takes another turn or three story evolves and once more Annabelle/Triana gets into something of a tangled mess that requires a little more effort than maybe it should have. What I can definitely say is this is a fun space opera Ms. Huni has written with a little mystery/spy story too. While the story didn't move as fast as I might have wanted at times there was usually a good reason behind it with all of the characters providing good material for the story, even when you think they're secondary characters. Ty has stepped up somewhat from previous stories though I feel Ms. Huni is still retarding him (why is he at the level he's at if he can't do better with field operations; please. You've made him look weak and makes me wonder why he's where he's at unless everyone in his business is incompetent or unobservive of their surroundings. Btw, I really question the S2/Intel branch of both Kaku and the corporation). Everyone else lends themselves pretty nicely to their role which is interesting given Vanti has typically been overplayed (my opinion) being the super bodyguard/spy/super-do-gooder with every gadget necessary. What I can say is I love Hy-Mi who seems to have the answer to everything and never or extremely rarely panics no matter the situation. He's the constant the series needs and hopefully Ms. Huni continues to bring him in. Rating wise a very solid 4 star book. It follows the vein of the early books while modifying Annabelle/Triana a little while giving her her continued freedom to act and even opening the door somewhat more. My past problems with the tech still exist but that's cool, this is space opera and if nothing else it's fun space opera.
The adventure continues. Now an ex-space janitor, Triana Moore grapples with how to find her own identity and life now that her past has been exposed. Fresh from figuring out why she was deported from her boyfriend's home planet, Triana is off to a creepy and oppressive planetary dictatorship, where intrigue and adventure abound.
This part of the series was probably not aimed at my demographic -- the underlying theme running through it is Triana's mother interfering with her wedding plans. And yes, Huni’s writing could be sharper (using “smirk” 74 times across the nine current/former Space Janitor stories/novels suggests there’s an adjective/adverb shortage somewhere -- or a shortage of editors.) Who cares, though? This continues the first set of books’ trend line straight into good clean fun, albeit of a slightly YA-adjacent kind that’s an odd bedfellow to all the grimdark SF sitting next to it in my Kindle. Time well spent.
Ms. Huni takes what could have been a story of wedding preparations with high jinks and turns it into a nonstop adventure of an international incident (the boy next door somehow gets through their top-notch security), suspected Leweian mafia, kidnapping and chases, trying on dresses (don't get antsy, that's part of the plot too) and much more. Throughout are the things I love about these books: Inventive naming of people, places and things (fried orgo skins, anyone?), the clever banter, and fun technology. I sincerely hope this series carries on, it's one of my favorites! - I received an advance copy and freely leave this honest review.
It's a high 3 mebbe 4 ish. Definately worth reading. Understand i am old school. 5 Must read 4 Should read 3 Worth your time 2 Potential but lacks 1 Mebbe but Don't 0 Garbage I have enjoyed the trip so far, but again...author...words... Mae West as far as i know based her character on Texas Guinan who was a speak easy I'd say legend character original from the roaring 20s. Again, but... I'd rather be caught dead than in SK orbital...no i would rather be living in SK orbital.
I like quirky sci-fi, and this book qualifies. The story combines a botched celebrity wedding with the overthrow of a foreign government and subsequent kidnappings of the overthrown family. It could as easily have been placed on contemporary Earth, but turning it into a sci-fi adventure allowed the addition of all the glittery technology the future might hold. The characters are deep enough to hold reader interest but not memorable enough to stick in the mind after the book is finished. I enjoyed it but I decided not to fall back and read the first book of the series.
The storyline has been interesting and exciting but this book reads, in parts, as if the author is tired of writing this series. I get it, she is also writing other stories, most of the authors I read do the same thing. So, take a break when fresh ideas flow regarding the former janitor, return to the story. I am sorry to say but I was disappointed.
Triana Moore - mischief, mayhem & a bit of a clutz!
What great fun this installment was; more new folks & some we didn't know as well as we do now. Elodie was a lovely surprise! (It'd be awesome to have her save the day for Ty & Triana in the next book... Hint hint! Maybe Elodie could perform the Wedding.)
Julia Huni's books are always great fun, & this was no exception.
This is a amusing and entertaining adventure of the sort that seems to follow the protagonist, Tirana/Annabelle. I have come to the point where the characters, for the most part, have become friends and I enjoy reading about the mayhem that follows them. I’m looking forward to reading book 3 in this series and I already have it secured in my Kindle. Enjoy!
I love Triana, and I needed a lighter, low body count read. The world building is great, the cast of characters is wonderful, and the story had me hooked immediately. Triana and her friends are awesome. I'm looking forward to the wedding!
these books I have read are ok. The story is a bit wishy washy, the main character is a bit gormless allowing everyone to run her life and doing nothing about it. It's a couple of hours I won't get back.
While Dame Morgan is busy planning Triana’s wedding she and the rest of the crew are on Kaku finding ways to get into trouble. Another well written book with an interesting plot. A great read.
Tirana and her gang resolve lots of new problems while keeping us entertained. We meet several new characters, a few of whom may be back in future stories. I enjoyed this tale.
This one was lots of fun. Wedding plans, espionage, kidnapping, rescues, and a crown prince working as a chef. What could be better. I love these books.
The way this started as a Baby's Day Out situation was my favorite!
While Triana was dealing with this wayward baby on the Space Station, she found a diamond. Fast forward a bit to Triana and the gang going dirtside to Kaku, where Triana finds another diamond! Something weird is going on, and Triana once again finds herself in the middle of a mystery.
And on top of this mystery, Triana is also dealing with wedding planning because SHE'S MARRYING TY! Omg! I am SO freaking excited!
And the wedding planning aspect would also be exciting, except Triana isn't the one doing the planning... her mother, the Ice Dame, is.
I felt so bad for Triana because she just wanted to marry Ty in peace, but her mother was turning the wedding into a whole political spectacle where Triana basically doesn't have a say in anything. It was frustrating! And this is the sort of thing that makes you understand why Triana ran away from home and changed her name—to get away from the Ice Dame and the politics.
But, as always, I really enjoyed this. Ty and Triana are so freaking cute together and I honestly needed more kissing from this series 😆 The characters are just great, as is their banter. We met Kara’s mom, who I loved! And I’ve really been enjoying following Kara on her journey to settling down. It’s been very interesting because she did not seem like the type to settle down. Lol. But yeah, this was fun and I really enjoyed the story! Especially that ending when Triana had a talk with Hy-Mi in regards to her wedding 👀 I am very interested to see how things are going to turn out after that.
I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) in exchange for posting my honest review. I’ll keep spoilers to a minimum.
This is the second book in the ‘Tales of a Former Space Janitor’. you can read this one without having read the first one or any of the ‘Tales of a Space Janitor’ books, however you’ll get a lot of backstory if you do.
This book picks up the storyline from where the previous book left off. It’s a well paced story with a lot of twists and humour. New characters are introduced that are interesting, fun and three dimensional. There are two new characters that I especially enjoyed, Kara’s mom and a dress designer (you’ll have to read it to find out).
The author continues her world building as we’re taken to both old and new areas of the planet. *Minor spoiler* Sierra Hotel (where Triana’s family lives on the planet) is once again a focal point in the book and again takes a beating. The book also mentions another one of her series, the ‘Colonial Exploration Corps’, which is set in the same universe. I only mention this as it relates slightly to Kara’s mom (and I’d like more information on that in a future book please).
I like the authors attention to detail. She moves the story along at a good pace as mentioned, all the while giving us detail which makes the story more enjoyable and doesn’t leave us wondering ‘how did that happen’.
This book is a fun read. There’s a good amount of humour which I personally like. This is one of the authors most well rounded books to date. I’ve given it 5 stars for the enjoyable read and for leaving me wanting another story.
Disclaimer: I got an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) in exchange for posting my honest opinions of this book. (Warning: my rating average for this year is 3.4, and I'm not sure if I pick a lot of bad books to read, or I just have higher expectations of the stuff. Maybe that will help you decide what to think about the rest of this.)
In the ongoing story of Triana/Annabelle we now start dealing with wedding planners. But of course everything goes sideways like it often does for our favorite former janitor. But I won't go into more detail and risk introducing spoilers. A few of the twists were unexpected, to the point of stretching credibility, and the ending did wrap up most loose ends while still leaving plenty of stuff for another book, or 5.
This one didn't seem to be quite as good as the others, but I suspect that's because I had to squeeze it in with a perilous cross-country trip to get my daughter's car to her for graduation, while not being able to attend due to pandemic policies. well that, along with a tire blowout, cracked windshield, and missed airline connections.... And it was really weird to stream the Vassar College graduation on an iPhone while sitting in baggage claim.
So maybe my life mirrored this type of fiction just a bit too much just before I read it... But "life is an adventure" so go out there and enjoy it! My only request at this point is "Hurry up Julia Huni, I want to read the next one. Don't leave us hanging."
What happens when, Trina has to face her Mom who is being a bit of a monster-in-law about the wedding? She is in the last leg of her "Space janitor" job. So what connection is there between, A biosphear for plants being built, a baby crawling into the biospher unsupervised, and what might be diamonds in soil for the biosphear? Trina was left with some odd clue's. Her wedding coming up, she needs to start playing her offical role in her Mom "The Dame" world. But with meeting Kara-her best friend's Mom- she finds a kinderded spirt for mischeif and the usual mayham she knows so well. You will love this adventure, read the books in order you dont want to miss a thing!

This book was great fun to read - it's helpful if you have read the previous books but not necessary, the story is easy to pick up on and you are guaranteed snorts of laughter whilst reading, I reckon. Having the story set up for the lead up to Triana's wedding, as desired by her mother, is always going to have a few hiccups, and there certainly were. Add into that runaways, kidnaps, diamonds and surfing, and this may give you an idea of the many ways in which things can go lopsided. I do love this author for writing such hilarious but believable characters, and for setting her world so well that it is easy to imagine without being fed long passages of description. I am an action junkie and these books satisfy me tremendously, I also like things a little light hearted at the moment and this need is also met. To set that in what feels like good old fashioned science fiction, although with a wee bit of updating, is perfection.
More action, adventure and all around destruction, but what else would you expect with Triana involved.
This time, we get to meet Kara's mother and she turns out to be every bit as much trouble as Triana herself. There are a few other new characters that make this quite a fun read.

As Julia Huni continues her Space Janitor series, once again we have some interesting takes on how humanity will adapt and survive as a space traveling and settling people. Somehow Triana needs to figure out whether she will function as a very skilled space janitor or as the rich and famous daughter of a powerful woman. In this book, again, her mother’s riches and fame clash rather strongly with Triana’s desire to live out of the spotlight. Don’t miss the chaos created when her two identities collide.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary review. Reading this book was a little like getting to visit with an old friend, who leads a far more exciting life than me, telling stories that I can share in and live vicariously! Triana and her friends adventures are such fun to read, lots of action, politics and shenanigans.... and food... hard to read without snacking LOL. All of this going on in the middle of trying to plan a wedding.... Triana might not be a bridezilla... but her mother? definitely. A character driven sci fi series that I look forward to reading more of.
