Kisses, Macarons, and Lonely Pie

Rate this book
Three years ago Tora and Ryota were an unbeatable pitching duo. The two were feared on the mound and were admired off. These days, Tora is a himbo ne'er-do-well and Ryota is slaving over ramen in his hometown. Furthermore Ryota is being set up for marriage by his family. So when Tora hears that his old partner might get taken off the board, he makes a beeline for home hoping to score big with his old teammate. The love between two former ball players can be a little bit of a swing-and-a-miss and a little bit of a homerun. But either way some one is going to score in this romance-comedy!

Lmfao this just went into it right at the start. Was not expecting cheeks to be fully spread on the first page…

This wasn’t as interesting as Hyougo’s other book, Wild Wild Wildlife, I think those concepts were a bit weirder and just more interesting to read. These were just a little wild with tons of sex, not much relationship progression and a lot of things that made me go HUH??

The art is nice at least.

Picked this up because it had been a while since I read it and I didn't remember much from it. I have basically the same opinion. I may need to reread Wild Wild Wildlife some time soon too.

a touch starved himbo and his slutty bestie who is very vocally in love with him, a judo master who lets his students gang bang him, and a very very pronounced daddy kink throughout. dumb, horny, and fun. there’s some under negotiated kink and a throwaway implication that the aforementioned judo students are in high school but i’m gonna pretend that’s a translation issue and pretend i do not see it.

A quick, fun read. Lots of smut, some cute storylines, and some slightly odd storylines, but not quite as good as Wild Wild Wildlife. Still, a fun read for sure!

I really have to stop buying manga from smaller publishers, it never ends well.

Once again I've bought a collection of oneshots when I thought it was a full on storyline.
And nowhere did it say it's was collection. This is getting really annoying.

Somehow...each story got progressively worse 🤣 but overall it was still cute and I like the art. 2.5 stars

Hyougo’s “Kisses, Macarons and Lonely Pie” is a good example of the early meaning of Yaoi: yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi ("no climax, no point, no meaning"). While explicit and raunchy, there’s a light tone set by the author that is reinforced by the way that the artistic style matches the content, making this a fun read. Nevertheless, I think it is mostly a forgettable manga whose main function is momentary distraction.

Here’s a quote:

“But she [your mother] was still just a regular woman. She couldn’t handle all of the stress and burden on her….”

There’s a lot of theory and research about why women create and consume same-sex erotica about males. Perhaps an equally interesting area of research is the various attitudes, beliefs, values and character traits, often negative, that female creators of BL have their characters voice about other women. The quote above, from Kijima Hyougo’s humorous, breezy and very explicit “Kisses, Macarons and Lonely Pie,” seems like a good example of a female mangaka voicing negative attitudes about other women through her characters. (Another area of research might be how often, and under what conditions, male characters use the phrase “He’s so cute” as a justification or explanation for their attraction to other men; the Japanese term ‘kawaii’ corresponds to our English term ‘cute’ but has its own meaning, too, More specifically, how often is ‘kawaii’ used as a justification not just for same sex attraction but also as a way of either claiming a man is staying within or is justified in going beyond defined gender roles, as in “he’s so cute, cute in the way that women are cute, that I can’t help be attracted to him because I’m a guy and guys will respond to this kind of cuteness (so my attraction is still a function of my given gender)” versus “he’s so cute I’m willing to step outside of my gender boundaries to be with him”).

CW: Graphic sex (censored), Orgy, Age Gap Romance (possibly with a minor but the age is never stated), Sex toys

This is honestly one of the best BL short story collections I've read in a long time. It gave me exactly what I expected from it.
I read Wild Wild Wildlife by Kijima Hyougo earlier this year, which I had mixed thoughts on. However, this collection was much more my taste when it comes to BL romance. The first story is the title story and features two childhood friends who use toys on each other. It was sweet, consensual, and spicy.
My favorite story involves a Judo team that has an orgy with the captain. It was bonkers but fun.
I also really liked the butler story line. It features a young man who finds out his dad is rich. He falls for his new butler who wants to protect and serve.
I honestly highly recommend this book. All of the stories were steamy and fun.

Um this was completely different than what I was expecting. I thought it was just going to be about the two on the cover but instead it was a bunch of short stories. No hate, it’s just wasn’t what I was expecting.
There were a couple of stories that I wasn’t a huge fan of, only because it was just entirely weird to the point I said out loud multiple times “what am I reading?” “What the fuck is this?”.
Also for a yaoi manga I was expecting no censoring. I was down for no censoring but that’s not what it was. That did turn me off for a bit. Some of the relationships were cute but I found that after I read the chapter I wanted more and that was the end for that one shot. And I sat there literally thinking up a different ending for one of them cuz I thought it was so sweet but like it could’ve ended differently.
Overall it was okay.

oookay so the description on indigo vs the description on the back of the book are definitely… different. i didn’t really realize what kind of book this was until it came in the mail wrapped in the plastic of shame LOL.

anyways i thought this was gonna be just about the two friends but it was actually a collection of short stories. the first three were fine i guess but the last two were a little weird. one i think might have involved high schoolers and their (adult) judo captain (ew ??) and the other a guy just straight up cheating on his bf ???? with no consequences ???? … nope ! didn’t like that !

i will say there were some parts that made me laugh, though. and the art was cute ! i think i just would have personally preferred to see only the first couple and have them progress romantically, but oh well.

2.5 stars. So I went in to this knowing it was a short story collection so I expected there not to be a ton of plot...but I wanted atleast a little. I would say read this if you purely want explicit BL smut and nothing else but even then the smut wasn't that exciting and very short. 2 of the stories had almost no smut til the very end and the joining of the characters was sooo hastily done. Then the last story I was super confused by and I think I get what was happening but maybe not. This collection didn't really have anything that stood out or made it spectacular but it kept my attention until the end atleast.

Each chapter is a different set of characters and plot lines; however, they all have one thing in common, unrequited love. I don’t mind stories with unrequited love.... As long as the characters get happy endings, I am fine with the whole unrequited love business.

In the end, though, I would give a 2 star for most of the stories in this manga. However, the kimono romance was sweet and I kept laughing during the “osu” chapter, so that’s why I gave it 3 stars.

More of a 2.5 star rating but I gave it 2 stars because I thought this was one solid story instead of a several story anthology.
This manga was 90% mature content and 10% plot due to the stories being so short. I kinda wish this had an extra volume just so each storyline can be a little more fleshed out and have a solid ending, instead of each story being left either open-ended or in a cliffhanger.

Oh LORD. I've read some stuff, let me tell you, and this was something. I can't say I didn't enjoy it because that would be a blatant lie, but at least give me some character development. Some of the stories were so short, I wasn't even sure who was who before they ended. None of them felt particularly resolved either. But yes, if you signed up for smut, you'll get it. Definitely.

I went into this expecting a single story, but it's in fact an anthology. Funnily enough, the only story in this anthology that didn't really work for me was the one the official blurb is based around.

Overall, a delightfully horny collection of stories that left me thinking "Why don't we see more salt-and-pepper oyaji getting absolutely plowed?"

I have never read anything by this author, but I was surprisingly in love with the artwork and stories. I went into this thinking it would be about the 2 characters, but only the first 2 chapters were. Normally I don’t like manga like this, but I loved all of the different stories. Age Gap is a trope I’m loving lately and multiple of the stories contained that trope.

LOVED THIS BOOK!

Like a lot of people, I bought this thinking it was a single issue comic and instead it was an anthology of sorts. Ok. But it wasn't a particularly good anthology? The illustrations were fine, and it is very porn-y (so more power to you, if that's what you're looking for) but with paper-thin characters and motivations, I just didn't get anything out of this.

Honestly, if I didn’t have plans yesterday, I would’ve finished the smaller. It was so good. I can say wholeheartedly. This is the least creepy and most spicy Kuma publish manga that I’ve read. I genuinely enjoyed it from story to story. And I wouldn’t have been mad if the stories have been a tad bit longer. The art is beautiful I wish there weren’t life sabers that is my only true complaint.

I really wish publishers would simply write that the book is an anthology of X number of stories somewhere. I ended up being disappointed thinking the whole book was ALL about the premise in the blurb to find out it's only the first 30 pages.

This was middle of the road, I really liked the first story but the further I read the more it was just mindless porn. Still good, just not what I expected from the jacket description.

Smutty fun

This was a smutty, fun yaoi, full of sexual shenanigans. The little stories were well drawn and you got to meet the characters. Nothing too deep, but sexy.

I didn't realize every chapter would be a new story. I don't care for collections like this. If you're looking for some weird pornographic short stories then this one is for you.
