I’m not just Allie Grace anymore. A beast slumbers beneath the surface of my skin.
I have new urges and impulses. Not to mention a hot temper that flares up at the slightest provocation. But that’s not all—apparently, I’m also mated.
It’s like a part of my soul has been sucked out, cleaved in two, and deposited into Jared and Clay. The strange otherworldly force tying us together is all but impossible to ignore.
I try my best, though. At least until other packs catch wind of the new wolf in Forest Grove. The one who has not yet chosen her pack. The one with two tails and a will strong enough to challenge one of the strongest alphas in the state.
To some, I’m a prize to be claimed. A trophy wolf that should be studied and admired. But to others, I’m dangerous. An unknown variable that could pose a threat to an entire race.
With no other option, I’ll have to trust in my newfound animal instinct, and in the two shifters who’ve each claimed a piece of my soul.
Elena lives in Canada with her husband, daughter, and their Siberian cat overlords. She writes dark, why-choose romances full of feisty heroines, unforgettable heroes, and their kindle-melting chemistry.
When she comes out of her writing cave, she can be found binge-watching true-crime shows, obsessively rearranging her bookshelves, or chasing the sun around the globe.
I hated the way this book ended, I hated the weakness of this heroine, I hated stubbornness of this heroine, I hated all the angst between the heroine and her two mates, I hated how mean she was to her mates. Elena Lawson, I understand why you didn't make this a insta-love series, but damn already! These two guys needs to get their crap together and figure out this mating thing with Allie.. I'm so sick of it already!
I seriously don't think I'll be reading book 3 of this series.. I'm just to pissed off right now at how this book ended.. Ugh! 🙄😡
An ok-ish read but throughout I kept waiting for something compelling to happen between Allie and her two mates - Jared and Clay. A lot of denial in this book especially when it comes to Allie and Clay. Things felt sluggish, especially when it came to Allie's relationship with her mates and the danger she faced.
I wanted more depth to the world and characters the author had created.
Tapping out of the series here - even if that means I don't know how things precisely end for Allie.
In this book we can read how Allie is trying to accept and adapt to her new life as a wolf shifter and being mated to two hot males makes it the more difficult #whychoose #botharehot #twomates 😲🙈... It's is also a difficult situation for Jared and Clay, as best friends, it's so hard to even thinking to "share" a mate, both want Allie for their own, which stress their friendship, making it harder for all to live together 😬😰... With secrets revealed, feelings confessed, strengths discovered, dangerous situations faced and a shocking cliffhanger, this book will keep you turning pages as crazy, 💯 recommended!!! 😍❤️
Allie's story is killing me. So many bad things happen to her. Jared and Clay are both so good for her and I just want her to embrace the relationship with them. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone but holy hell am I pissed at some characters. I definitely need some justice in the next book. And I want to see Allie embrace her destiny. Don't get me wrong because she is strong in the face of everything her life has entailed, but I know she was made for more. I'll just be twiddling my thumbs while waiting for her story to conclude.
This is proving to be a great series! The world building is incredible, the storyline addictive and continues to develop and the female mc is strong! Some questions from book one are answered but then we get some new questions that need answering, her relationship with her mates continues to grow slowly, there’s still turmoil, there’s action and that ending!!! Can’t wait to read the next book!
This was another great read but I have to say the fact she ends the book still not truly mated was annoying. I am all for slowburn but 2 whole books is pushing it.
I am invested enough to read book 3 but if we don’t get answers then I am not sure.
DNF 53%. I can't take Allie anymore. Shes very immature, mean, indecisive, and just plain dumb. I understand that shes only 17 but she's acting like a 12 year old.
Allie is now a werewolf because of her ex's attack, and she needs to learn how to be one. However, she doesn't want to submit to the Alpha of the pack, Jared's uncle, as she thinks there is something terribly wrong with him. Forced to submit to protect her friends' lives, Allie promises herself that she'll discover whatever the alpha is hiding.
I am so tired that authors present their heroine as weak a*s females that are so angst filled that everything that happens is somehow their fault even if they have to twist them into unbelievable forms to fit that narrative. She's a powerful being that constantly ignores it so she can keep her psychotic need to be not worthy. I'm done. I'm beyond frustrated & cannot bring myself to care for this whiner going forward. Also why is every single adult in this world unstable? Who would want be part of this world.? It's crap.
The second book in the series and second book with a little orange tag that says Best Seller with very good reason. I’ve been reading Elena Lawson since her Queen Consorts series and at the risk of sounding like a pretentious dweeb, I feel like I’ve seen her grow in her writing and this is a great example of that! I feel as though the conclusion to this one is going to be her best work yet. The depth of emotion, the raw realness of her characters – flaws, irritations and all; the secrets and mystery and unexpected twists (I have little bets with myself to see if I can guess stuff and so help me, she trips me up now and then) – it’s all succinct and purposeful.
Truthfully, Allie irritated the blooming hoo-ha out of me on so many occasions in this book and I kept having fierce little conversations with her throughout the book – because darnit girl, get yourself together… but there was a realness to that too – no one would realistically expect anyone to just go “oh okay, no problem…“ and get on with things. As much I feel like I understand her on a certain level, I do acknowledge that she’s not my absolute favourite FMC and I’m rooting harder for these boys and her friends. Allie does have more issues than most people – she’s going to have to overcome a lot of her own barriers to really get anywhere. Maybe she’ll grow on me a bit more. She gets in her own way a lot, usually by not trusting the people that she knows she can trust and so that doesn’t do much for the situation: The best of intentions and something about the road to hell comes to mind.
She does have good intentions; it’s just unfortunately matched with long standing trauma issues which we’ve managed to glimpse but we have not yet seen clearly. This book was harder to read because of the multitudes of loose ends, of limbo relationships and a final scene that made me seethe with impotent rage – because that’s hard, right? When you’re reading a book and straining for one ending and you don’t get that gratification – that moment of “Ha! In Your Face!” where the good guys walk away into the sunset.
This one definitely didn’t have that. There was a “Are you freaking kidding me right now?” moment at the end (and that’s the censored version) but once my Irish dropped and I read it again, I realized that this second book, was about the journey: it was about getting used to the everyday things, the new normal, becoming aware of people and knowledge; it was about trusting little old ladies even when they’re questionable; about trusting each other when they’d all had their fair share of hard knocks, it was about letting a little more light shine so that there are a lot less shadows. And it was about getting your team at your back to prepare for battle; to save, not just you, but everyone.
So much still needs to happen for the puzzle pieces to fit and Allie has some definite development to do but I’m so looking forward to seeing the pieces fall where they should – for secrets to be revealed and for justice to be revealed. I want blood. And then I want my slow burn so explode all over the place and set the forest on fire!
Well, on some level I’m disappointed. . Not going to lie, I looked forward to this after reading the first book. I thought it was a character who was different to the normal hot and cold and naive but I was wrong. The main character really let this book down for me. I understood the characters life altering event left her angry and resentful but I thought because of how she adapted to what happened in the first book and how mature she was, that she would at least make her transition easier than what she did in this book. Instead she did what I find frustrating, which is turn a blind eye and ignore her situation all together, which in the end made the first half of the book feel very drawn out and there was multiple times I wanted to stop reading altogether. . The excitement for me with this book was effected by that. For me when I’m reading a character being thrown into this world and she adapts and accepts it somewhat while human, that I would think that even with anger and resentment that she would also accept or at least even acknowledge her new situation with a bit more maturity and intelligence. I’m sorry for bleating on about it, but it’s a huge pet peeve for me, especially when it’s drawn out as long as it is. . Regardless of the main character, I enjoyed the other characters. I honestly had a theory that one of the friends may have been a witch or something else supernatural but regardless I enjoyed them. They definitely kept the story going for me. That spin at the end threw me, I wasn’t expecting that at all. . Such an interesting take on wolves also for me, and learning more about it in this book was great. I always love reading the different interpretations authors have on things that are commonly written like wolves and vampires for example. So I was captivated by that and the world around it. The author has a way of making a clear picture of what is happening. . I will be checking out the next book. I’m hoping that the main character grows a lot more in the next one and I’m intrigued at where the story goes.
Faced with her new reality, Allie struggles to come to terms with everything that’s happened in such a short space of time.
She’s now a wolf shifter, mated to not one but two wolves, has two tails in her wolf form, and has a strong 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡. But what does any of it even mean?
Allie can’t fathom trying to choose between Jared and Clay, because if she’s honest with herself, she has feelings for both of them. As they do for her. But they don’t want to share her either, and it’s causing a rift in their friendship. Something Allie can’t bear.
Can they all deny their bond and remain friends? Or if they can’t figure things out, will she have to leave them both behind?
As with the last book, this one just flew by as I was caught up in the story! So much drama and angst.
Allie constantly calls herself a coward, and yet she’s actually anything but. She’s scared of hurting the people she loves - or at least being the cause of their suffering - and she may be scared of having the tough conversations, but she never backs down from a difficult situation. She never runs away even when things get to be too much.
I don’t know how she could possibly choose between the guys. They couldn’t be more opposite in the best ways. Jared is laid back, happy, easy to talk to. They share so many common interests too. Whilst Clay is the epitome of the grumpy hero. Tries so hard to stay away from Allie and make her think he hates her, when the truth is quite the opposite. They are both such good men and the sexual tension is thiiiiiiick.
Looking forward to seeing her finally become one with her wolf and claim her mates!
What an amazing follow up to Allie’s story. I absolutely adore her character and love what Elena Lawson has accomplished in this book. Allie continues to be so relatable and I love her for it.
So Shifted Soul picks up after Allie’s first shift and we find her trying to figure out how she fits into this new world and really who she is as a person/wolf. I almost feel like a lot of this book was about her healing and coming to terms with who she is. She spends a lot of time fighting her wolf which means she’s essentially fighting herself.
I do have to say the romance part was a bit infuriating because I just want Clay, Jared, and Allie to work everything out. There were definitely times that I wanted to shake all three of them and be like why?!? We also really got to see Clay’s personality in this book and spoiler alert - he’s not only sweet but he’s still hot as anything. Clay definitely really shined in this book and totally won me over.
So anyways Allie has to make a big decision by the end and oh boy I wish she didn’t have to make the decision she did because she’s way too strong minded for the choice she made. However I feel like this is a classic “we may have lost the battle but we will win the war” type scenario and I am so looking forward to her winning the war.
Really looking forward to book 3 and continuing Allie’s story and can’t wait to see what Elena Lawson has in store for us.
Ok, full disclosure, I really love this series! It is full of angst and hard choices, friendship drama and family issues- as well as all the werewolf action (including a super inconvenient mate bond!) I could love. This is the second book in the series and it picks up after book 1 ends, with Allie having just been turned into a werewolf against her will and now finding herself in the awkward spot of having two mates. Two equally wonderful, very different but perfect mates. Ok, you got me, I love both the guys so much and am totally rooting for a love connection- but that does not happen here. There were so many times I just wanted to yell at the book "JUST KISS ALREADY!" but alas I held my tongue and tried to wait the characters out. I think this is listed as a reverse harem, but there was no sexy time in this book, only I think one kiss occurred at all. Side note, the main character curses like a sailor (which I am entertained by) and there is conversations about possible rape, verbal and physical abuse, illness, as well as violence, but is super PG for sex.
I listened to this audio (even though I have the ebook also) and I blew through the book in one day because I was obsessed and could not stop. The ending was the most terrible of cliff hangers, completely leaving me wanting more and stomping on my heart at the same time, answering none of my questions. I can't wait until the third and final book is released so I can have more werewolves in my life!
Even though this book was longer, there weren’t any more details than the previous book.
This book starts a week after the end of the previous book. Allie is now a shifter and is still living with Jared and Clay. The problem is that she’s an unclaimed shifter living in pack territory, which leaves her with few options.
Allie was fine, but I didn’t think that her relationship with Clay and Jared was explored enough. Sure, she spends some time with both of them so that it can be said that their relationships developed, however they don’t really talk about their situation. Also, I was a bit confused when it came to Allie’s shifting – .
Once again, the school and bookstore aren’t shown. Layla and Viv appear a couple of times, but I didn’t think that it was enough. Also, the ending of this book felt like it happened just so that the story could be stretched out.
I thought that the first book was a good introduction, and I was hoping that this book would explore the shifter pack, Allie’s wolf and the mate situation more, but it didn’t. I don’t think I care to continue with the series.
I was disappointed in this book after highly anticipating its release. I won’t be reading the next. This book was mediocre at best. But the grammar and punctuation was better than some books I’ve ready lately.
First, I’m sorry, but someone who has been forced to live/survive on their own like this MC, isn’t as indecisive and whiny as this MC appears to be. They fight to not be backed into a corner. So this story doesn’t make sense to me from a character arch point of view. Survivors are not indecisive ever or allow themselves to forced into an action. It could mean death. Personality does not fit the situation and makes the MC not seem like a real person. Un-relatable.
Second, the story is moving waaaaay to slow. Only like 5 important things have happened in 2 books. The author is trying to be to mysterious and failing miserably. I’m sorry, after 2 books all we know is the MC is different and others want to control her or her dead. Why is the MC necessary to the story? After 2 books we should have some idea why the story is being written and we don’t. Half of both books is fluff and filler. Unimportant and not necessary.
The story amazingly progresses in book 2 of Elena Lawson’s Wolves of Forest Grove series! The way things ended in book 1, you know stuff was gonna go down. The whole mate thing is very interesting (and the explanation totally came out of left field and I loved it!). I am super intrigued where its going to go in book 3! I loved seeing the softer side of Clay, I mean it was a similar trope but I still wanted it and was begging for more time with them. I hated even more characters in this book than I did book 1 haha. I also got teary eyed when some other things were revealed regarding Allie’s friends (and the ending!!!!!). Ugh I am dying for book 3, Can August be here already?!?! I didnt plan this out well hahaha. Wont give away any spoilers, but I really liked this story/relationship development and cant wait to see what happens next ❤️
Narration was done really well again! No complaints, I liked how she dealt with Allie’s feral side and with the new characters that were introduced or side characters that got more screen time. Great job, will definitely be listening to more audiobooks narrated by Heather!
Ones where the main characters get together extremely fast and then the rest of the books they spend having sex. And the others are almost the opposite. The characters take till the end off the series to get together and spend all the books till then denying themselves.
Video and rare are the books where the story is somewhere in between. Those are the books I enjoy.
Sadly this ended up Bing the second kind off book. Allie send most off the time denoting her feelings, her instincts, and basic common sense. She et hier doesn’t ask questions because she is in denial or she just forgets about stuff? So instead of being an active participant in her own life it just happens to her because she ignores everything until it hits her in the face.
I wish it wouldn’t be like that. I really loved the first book set up. I love that she is a broken character who will heal her wounds through finding someone to truly love her for her.
I really wanted to like this, and I'm so disappointed with Lawson's writing style. The last book had a lot of build up mystery with a cliffhanger, but the start of this book was several days later with a mini flashback. Okay, maybe we would get some answers now, I think to myself. That's not what happens. Allie gets no answers to what is happening. Everyone is keeping her in the dark, and since it's in first person, the readers are also kept in the dark, but we are kept in the dark by her from her past, and 22% in, there is NOTHING developing the story. Okay, yeah, we get more drama added on to what we already know, but really? It's nothing significant. I'm not impressed. The characters are not relatable, Allie is continually sitting in self pity but gets mad when Jared wants to help her out, throwing it in his face that he can't buy her affection. It's very nerve wracking, and so, I cannot continue.
I was disappointed with the flow of this book. A good 65% of it is just Allie's thoughts, and perhaps I could've gotten past that except the were repetitive. There was nothing new.. Devin and all that entails terrifies me, I don't want to be a wolf or have mates, I am a terrible person.
And WHYYY is no one telling her about what being a wolf entails, let alone having mates. It was mentioned that turning people was against the rules and to do so is punishable by death. Why then was Devin only banished?! It was practically witnessed and that's AFTER he kidnapped her. A lot of stuff is wonky. I skipped so many paragraphs of boring internal dialog and I honestly didn't miss a thing. I am going to try and read the 3rd book, because so many things were unanswered.. I'm just hoping that will be better.
There's not really much to say about these books to be perfectly honest!
The story was certainly heavily influenced by the manga Fruits Basket so was definitely far from original! The writing was also quite basic, the plotline pretty average and the character's your stereotypical unrealistic teens.
The basic plot is that 17 year old Allie becomes friends with two best guy pals: Jared and Clay...who just happen to be able to shift into wolves.
Queue all of the teen angst, drama, hormones and pack altercations!
I would never usually read this type of series (especially when the front covers are so, so bad!!) but I was in the mood for a few quick and easy reads that didn't require much of my attention span! I hoped that these would help to get me back into the swing of reading again and they have done just that.
If I’m completely honest I enjoyed the first book so much I was compelled to read the second immediately. I expected it to progress a bit faster in the romance department and was left really disappointed with the lack of pace. (No real action from Allie and her boys until 2/3’s of the way through) I liked the lead characters and feel invested enough to put the third book on my TBR but the second book had me really having to force myself from rolling my eyes at the feebleness of Allie at some points, it’s as if her resilience and stubborn determination just disappeared at times leaving me confused. On the whole I liked the story and will persevere but I really need to see something more in the next book if it’s going to drag on to a 4th???
Okay we got to learn a lot of things in this book but Allie had to deal with so much. Although it feels like for each question that got answered a new one was raised. She needs a hug and to give in to her relationships with people. Also there are certain people who need a swift kick in the butt and they better get it in the next book because I am very angry with them. Don’t want to say too much for fear of giving it away. There were a few times Allie got on my nerves with some whining but it wasn’t too bad and she did have a lot to deal with. I also want to see her fulfill her destiny and show everyone just who she is. That ending wow just wow can’t say much else. I need the next book to see how all this will end.
This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I'm not entirely sure I like the events that led up to the conclusion of book two. I'll hold judgement until the storyline continues. The slow progression of the relationships are done well but the characters come across as vapid at times. The lack of communication, the lack of talking to each other... that's why I only have the book a 4. The decision making starts to grate on the nerves. She's supposed to be strong and yet doesn't make an effort to learn what her new life is supposed to be. Doesn't take the opportunities she has to get stronger, to learn her options, nothing. It's almost like battered spouse syndrome and it's hard to read at times.
Ummm...what's the point of this book? Why is this even a Trilogy? Literally nothing substantial happened in this book. I can sum up the who story of the 2 books in just a few sentences. "A girl gets Bitten by her crazy ex who is wolfshifter and then finds out that she has 2 mates. The mates struggles to share her and absolutely nothing physical happens between them. Its so freaking juvenile!🤦♀️ Now she has to accept her mates alpha as her alpha to stay in the pack. Her wolf is apparently strong willed. Whatever fuck that means🤷♀️ and has 2 tails😂 So she struggles to bow to the alpha. She finally does it at the end of the book after her 2 bestfriends get Bitten in an attack by other pack Wolves." That's it!!!!!! 😒 Why did I even start reading this series🤦♀️
We learn more about Allie's life as she tries to adjust to her new life. She fights the changes and the bond at first still uncertain of what she wants and where to go. She is waiting to see get will happen to her ex for his crimes against her. Allie's friends grow more suspicious as she tries to cling to normality but her lies are burying her. We get more Clay and I love it. Ultimately she has to decide what to do and the costs are high. Things end in an intense way that will irrevocably change her and others lives. Excited to see where this continues to go. Great second book that develops the characters and their relationship. Slow burn. Single POV.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
OMG this one was just as fantastic as the first one!! Allie now has to learn to adapt to her new shifting ability as well has as her not one but two mating bonds. This is rather challenging as she quickly learns as it comes with a whole host of problems which includes whether she is joining the pack or leaving the area. Her wolf has a mind of its own and is not always down with her decisions which creates some problems that should prove to be quite interesting in future installments. A riveting read that you will be unable to put down. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
