Beloved

Rate this book
After Sabeara’s journey inside the Sethen Courts, she finally returns home to the hidden kingdom of Knadiel. Aveladon and Ethydon now combined, it would seem she should be happy to see her family again in a state of unity and peace. But when she returns to a plethora of secrets that have been kept from her, heartache ensues.

Angry and upset with those that have lied to her, while also trying to understand her feelings for Mid and Dusane, things get complicated for Sabeara. Unraveling her relationships with the handsome prince that had her heart in the beginning, and the brooding Envoy captain with a past that she knows so little about, will be harder than Sabeara imagined.

Sabeara ends up on a mission with the two men, where they journey to Severesi in hopes of finding a blacksmith in the Niafell mountains. They encounter Severesi’s lavish culture while battling vicious creatures, enemies, and mysteries along the way.

But Sabeara’s story isn’t the only tale that will continue to be told.

Sunn has been living on the Isles of Arradale since the war in Ethydon. The decision made by her parents to keep her safe from the kingdoms of chaos, has confined her to the little island of palms, sea, and sailors. Restless, she finds escape by sneaking onto local ships and pretending to be a crew boy.

But when she boards a ship that gets attacked by the nefarious captain of the Obscurum army, she doesn’t know if she will ever see her family again. An enemies-to-lovers story, unlike any you’ve seen before, will emerge and rattle even the hardest hearts.

Beloved is the third book in the Granted series and is packed with even more action, romance, and lore. You won’t want to miss it.

4.5 stars:

I enjoyed this sequel so much!! It really built on what Kendra had in books one and two and further developed the world.

Though I’m typically stressed out by love triangles, I felt like she wrote this one really well! I know I have my favorite and my preference for who Ehren ends up with, but I don’t think that’s going to be fully decided until the last book.

Can I say I officially have a new favorite character and a new favorite ship?? 😍 Kendra. I NEED more Sun and Obsidian content in book four, okay? I love a good enemies to lovers, morally grey love interest.

Highly recommend for fans of The Selection and The Remnant Chronicles. Perfect for fans of YA Fantasy Romance!

Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All thoughts are my own.

Review: 4.5 stars!

This was one of my most expected releases of 2021! I am glad to say it was worth the wait! This is the third book in the Granted series, a YA fantasy series with arranged marriage, hidden identity, enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, and most importantly a strong female lead that develops with each book, becoming more and more independent and fierce!

Spoilers below if you haven't read the previous books in the series!

After months being a part of the Envorydian, Ehren is finally back home. But home isn't the same anymore; Aveladon has merged with Ethydon and someone she never expected to claim the throne now sits upon it. Ehren is distraught by all the sudden changes, many dark secrets come to light, and she is feeling like the carpet has been swept from under her feet. At the same time she is juggling two handsome and yet completely different men: Mid, Prince of Ethydon who had been arranged to marry her sister, and Dusane, a mysterious yet irresistible Envoy captain. As the three of them must venture together to find a solution to weaken Obsidian, sparks fly in all directions.

When the story reaches part 2 I couldn't keep my eyes off the pages. The story is then told in multiple points of view, and Sunn's chapters soon became a favorite. Sunn is taken captive in an Obscurum ship and we get to learn more of the evil side of the story. Soon enough I was earning for all Sunn and Obsidian interactions!

"And most of all, don't you dare say my name like you wish you were something other than a monster. "

Prepare to have your heart wrenched at the ending! 😭😭😭 I need book 4 now!

I’m going to be needing the next book in this series IMMEDIATELY.

BELOVED has been a rollercoaster ride through all the emotions on the emotional spectrum! Once again, the characters were my favorite aspect, even with the love triangle between Bear/Ehren and her boys, Mid and Dusane. This is a trope with which I have a love-hate relationship. I know it adds delicious drama and tension, but I struggle with it when I’m adamant on my preference, and we’ve already established my heart is set on Dusane. Does this mean I didn’t enjoy the scenes between Mid and Ehren? No. I enjoy them, and the author does a great job offering good scenes between Ehren and both of her love interests throughout the book. I just continue to be a fan of the more mature relationship Ehren and Dusane share, and I greatly appreciate how respectful of Ehren’s boundaries Dusane is. I did warm up a bit more to Mid, but I still find some of his behaviors a bit childish.

However, the true highlight were two returning characters, Sunn (Mid’s niece, who was last seen in the first book), and Obsidian, who is one of our villains! We’d already gotten hints in the past about the possibility of Obsidian being more morally gray than evil, but I never would have thought we’d be getting a romance arc with this character, and what a romance it was! Give me a tormented villain and a smart, brave love interest to ruffle his feathers, and my heart is sold. Lovers of hate to love romance will adore this pairing, and again, they were a complete surprise but by far my favorite thing in this book.

Characters aside, the stakes keep getting higher and higher in this series. I’m a big fan of the way Kendra Thomas approaches world-building. There aren’t major paragraphs meant to explain it, but rather its woven in tidbits into the experiences of her characters and the plot, and as you get swept up in the drama, you find yourself learning more and more about the world! Beloved in particular brought so much more to the story in terms of magic. I will only say this: mermaids! And they were as alluring and mischievous as mermaids should be.

The Granted series truly reminds me of the classic YA stories that made me fall in love with reading. I can’t wait to see what else Kendra has in store for us, especially because the ending of Beloved is BRUTAL!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. All opinions are my own!

I knew this book was going to be intense.

That’s what happens when there’s a love triangle. You love one pairing and you rarely root for both. Your heart and mind are set, and every scene with your chosen makes you soar, and every other with the rival makes you clutch the book a little tighter until your knuckles ache. It’s why everyone is frustrated with love triangle and secretly loves them at the same time, me included.

My choice from the previous book is confirmed: it’s Dusane all the way. While I did enjoy Mid more in this one, I can’t help but ship Bear/Ehren. (By the way, this is the first time I read a book where a character’s alternate identity takes over to the point that everyone calls them by that name. It’s very original. Strange, but I like it! Aelin in Throne of Glass doesn’t count because it’s different.) Although I’m surprised to say that my attention was ensnared by a new, surprise dynamic between two characters we already knew and that I never imagined would interact, but I’m so glad they do: Sunn, Mid’s niece, and Obsidian, one of the villains! Their banter, chemistry, enemies-to-lovers energy gave me oxygen. I adored their scenes!

The strength of this book and series in general is the characters, which you can’t help but love, and the fact that the story and world is so interesting is a beautiful bonus. Again, Kendra Thomas ended the book with a surprising twist, although this one might be the one that hurt me the most. Ending the book like that? Cruel!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

Beloved is the 3rd book in the Granted series by Kendra Thomas. This book is nothing short of the adventure story the author promises. Granted is geared towards young adult readers, so if you enjoy the YA/MG fantasy genre, the Granted series is definitely going to be your cup of tea.

I felt like we have been through so much Sabeara’s journey together and honestly I just wanted the characters to all take a cap because they earned it. Lol. In Beloved, we see Sabeara reunited with her family. Is it the reunion she is expecting? No. So many secrets are weaved into her life and Sabeara doesn't know what to think and who to trust.

Not to mention she is still conflicted about her feelings between two guys she really likes and makes her feel special. I do not love the love triangle trope, it's just not for me, but the trope fits perfectly in a YA novel (and almost expected!) so that is definitely going to hook a wide variety of readers.

Does Kendra Thomas leave of on a cliffhanger? OF COURSE SHE DOES! Because why not? All I know is that book 4 is going to be epic and I don't think her readers are ready for it. If you have been wondering whether or not you should read this series, here is your sign that you should!

Thank you so much for sending me a beautiful copy to read and review.

The covers of this series. Seriously, they just keep getting better and better.

I hope you like cliffhangers. Because this one was brutal. Need the next book ASAP. I don’t even know how to form coherent thoughts yet.

Love triangles are my least favorite trope and for a good reason. I happen to love both boys in this one and normally do always. I don’t think she should have to choose… just saying. Mod and Dusane are both worthy in my book. Ehren has her hands full.

This one took us through all sorts of emotions. I really loved the world building in here. I am not a huge world building fan when it comes or fantasy because authors tend to write hundreds of pages of nothing but. I prefer my character driven plot. Kendra did a wonderful job of weaving them all together. This is definitely a classic YA feeling series but I’m here for it.

Thank you to the author once again and cannot wait to continue this series!

Wow just wow, I love how Kendra has laid out this story! This one was filled with so much anxiety! LOL my anxiety. It was action packed! Can I just stress again on how much I love the names in this series.

Ahhh, ok lets review. The plot was pretty good, once again the MC makes her way through difficult times and secrets unravel. Am I a bit sad that she picked? yes... both characters are amazing! but I have to say Dusane has my heart.

This is such a wholesome read, definitely great for lovers of romance and adventure. Kendra adds so much beauty to her wording and the flow of her story just keeps you absolutely hooked. Once again I have to add that this story is perfect for romance lovers, teens that want to see the growth of pure love. YA will always have a special place in my heart. The author took me back to the dreamy place of when I first started reading this genre with the swooning and plot twists.

Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy! now... where is book 4!

*Except for the synopsis below, this review is spoiler-free for this book and the ones preceding it.*

I have to be honest, I’m super unhappy with the ending… But I’m still extremely invested in this series and I’m anxious to see how everything unfolds in this fourth book!

Goodreads synopsis:

The decision made by her parents to keep her safe from the kingdoms of chaos has confined her to the little island of palms, sea, and sailors.

Firstly, I received a review copy of this book from Kendra Thomas, so here’s a huge thank you to her for continuing to let me support her series! I received the copy in exchange for exposure and an honest review. You can see my review for the first book, Granted, heret and my review for the second, Hearted, here.

This book was just as intense and heart-wrenching as I expected it to be. I feel SO invested in all of the characters and their relationships, their lives, their decisions - it might be unhealthy, but I couldn’t stop it if I tried (and I’m absolutely not trying to). It feels so freaking good to dive headfirst into a series and be unable to wrench myself away without constantly thinking about it or to read a chapter without it wreaking havoc on my emotional stability.

Part of that “wreaking havoc” wasn’t completely acceptable, though; I was extremely annoyed at a couple of decisions our main character made (Sabaera, not Sunn). I’m very unhappy with her. HOWEVER, it’s a good thing this series is a lot more than those decisions; this YA fantasy is action and “good vs. evil” and adventure and romance all over the place. And love triangles are HARD, yet somehow Kendra pulled it off really well. I’m not happy with the outcome of it - that’s part of why I didn’t love how this book ended - but overall the triangle itself is one of the best I’ve ever read as far as communication and understanding. Plus, there’s another book so I’m hopeful *nervous laugh*

The addition of Sunn’s storyline was super interesting as well! It wasn’t perfect - the romantic feelings were REALLY rushed and Sunn’s morally grey love interest is NOT going to go down well with the rest of the fam - but I really liked experiencing the world from Sunn’s feisty perspective, and I sense a lot of potential in her storyline.

To sum up, I’m annoyed with Sabaera, intrigued by Sunn, disappointed by the ending, and excited to see how the conclusion to the series unfolds. But overall, if you love fast-paced, heart-pounding YA fantasies, you don’t want to miss this series.

Unsure if will continue the series

I really dislike love triangles. Ehren really just comes across as indecisive and flaky. Not sure I’ll continue with the series.

On a plus note I did enjoy learning more about Sunn and Obsidian. But all the characters really are just one note.

I'm so disappointed by what happened to this series. The love triangle was unnecessarily stretched to the point that I actively disliked Sabeara and had to force myself to finish the book.

I started this book last year, but I don’t think I ever finished it because I wanted to wait until Ascended was closer to coming out. Well, I received a copy of eARC of Ascended and I knew I had to finish this book to start that one. I am so happy that I because wow!

I have loved this YA fantasy/Romance series from the first book Granted. However, I love that in this book we don’t just see Sebeara POV, but we also get Sunn’s as well.

I love that you get so many tropes in this book : arranged marriage, hidden identity, enemies to lovers, and forbidden romance. All the MC and SC are truly invested in this series, everyone has a role that they must play and slowly more and more of those roles come out in this book. I loved that we saw Ehren (Sebeara) finally come home but it isn’t the same. Aveladon and Ethydon have merged and made a new name for themselves to stay safe from the Obsidian and his cruel father. However, so many other things have changed as well, Ehren now must decide who she wants to be with Mid or Dusane. (I am team Mid) They go on many adventures to ensure that they will come out on top with this fight that is coming, and they face many scary moments.

The new/old characters that come back in this book were done beautifully. I loved that we get to see Sunn again but Obsidian that was a stock and I loved, I mean LOVED it. Having that whole new character brought in and having them be a new/exciting part of the book and I cannot wait to see what Kendra Thomas gives us in the next book.

I am happy that I waited to finish this book until I could read Ascended because wow that ending and everything that happened, I don’t know if I could have waited forever. I am off to read Ascended now, I can’t wait!

Review

This book follows the trail of book 1&2 and didn't disappoint it gave all the answers after the way book 2 ended but sprouted off more questions! I mean I expected it but I definitely wasn't ready for the feels that Kendra Thomas made me feel. It was like choosing between Edward Cullen and Jacob Black all over again only thing is I didn't know how it would end! I read this book in just three days I wouldn't normally brag because before becoming a mom I'd have finished it in a day but after becoming a mom that's another level of time zones to keep up with xp

Anyway this book has Sabera the Envorydian, Dusane and Midden who seek to win her heart. She's in a tough spot trying to choose between them because they both have been there for her at her worst so choosing is hard and on top of learning that her father is no more she is shattered and refuses to speak with either of them at first but as the story goes on she thaws out but whom will she choose? What will happen when they find the token but can't take it? And wait! Do mermaids who are Stone Hearted exist too?

The book is an amazing sequel to book 3 and has so much going on for it, it's so peculiar and amazing in its detailed grandeur, the plot is just so intricately set up for the upcoming books but hey it's Kendra Thomas we're talking about of course I expected nothing less! The characters as always were well built and had strong personalities, and the cover is just FABULICIOUS! Grab your copy NOW!!

This series is super fun and I can’t believe there’s only one book left! The addition of Sunn’s POV is what really kept my attention and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

While I thought the depiction of grief at the beginning and the rage Ehren feels throughout the book was interesting, the love triangle totally overthrew important character growth and made the first half difficult for me to get through. There was so much back and forth that I was like “girl just pick one and if it doesn’t work out, that’s probably for the best” lol. That being said, I’m still rooting for Dusane and I guess Ehren technically chooses him in this one, but it didn’t feel satisfying or like a final decision in any way. Their connection seemed much stronger in the last book, and in this it felt like Ehren simply chose Dusane because she didn’t want to confront actually having to make a decision, and it kinda watered down the moment between them. But there’s still a lot of room to explore this more, so we’ll see!

Onto the next: Sunn and Obsidian! I guess I have no idea how old these characters are because I thought Obsidian was in his 30s omg 😳 now I’m thinking it’s more like 18/19
Their connection took me by surprise and I loved Sunn’s fiery personality paired with the morally grey/tortured villain. I do think the romance aspect felt very rushed, but there’s also so much to build on it if that’s the direction the next book goes!

This book was awesome. I binge read it in three or so sittings. It was great to see the character developments. Everyone was so worried for Ehren but they didn't realise that she is independent now and can protect herself and others very well. I loved that Mid and Dusane had come to an understanding.

Once Sunn's story began, I was all for it. I was tired of all the drama around Ehren and was loving the new point of view. Pirate fantasy is one of my favourites. I loved the women empowerment and got so angry when Obsidian blamed Sunn if his crew members were attracted to her. I loved Sunn and her brave, daring character. It felt so good to read some enemies to lovers. I had goosebumps the whole time. Any small interaction was enough to have me swooning over those two. I can't wait to read more of them in the next book.

**MILD SPOILERS**
I was frustrated at Ehren at some points but I can understand her conflict and I still love her. Love triangle is not a trope that I am fond of so I am glad that she finally picked someone and I hope the other meets the love of his life in the next book. I was so mad at Mid when he used his powers to turn into Dusane. That was a cheap act.

This series by indie author Kendra Thomas just keeps getting better and better. In this third installment we explore further into the kingdom and get some more in depth world building. To start the book we find ourselves back in the newly merged Aveladon and Ethydon under the name of Knadiel. And the return of Sabeara /Ehren and her Envorydian cohort fresh from their rescue mission in Obscurum.

As we travel with our heroine across the realm on the hunt for more of the curse breaking artifacts we become more entangled in the love triangle she finds herself in with Mid and Dusane. One in which I personally cannot settle on a favorite as the characters are written so well. I also loved the introduction of some new mythical creatures likes the mermaids. And we need to talk about the beginning of a redemption arc for Obsidian whom I found myself starting to feel sympathy for by the end of the book.

The more of this series I read, the more invested I become. Between the world and character building, action filled fight scenes and romance aspects they're books I find myself unable to put down. And with the romance being at a PG level they're also a fantastic fantasy series for the younger readers in your life. Can't wait to see where book 4 takes us after the cliff hanger ending of this one.

The series that just got better and better with each book. I have to say that I went into it with no expectations except knowing that it was YA fantasy and adoring Kendra Thomas’ IG page. She brings the Kingdom of Knadiel to life within the pages and gave voice to Sabeara, the princess who realizes she didn’t need anyone to find her place in her world.

There’s battles, there’s a love triangle, there’s love and there’s magic. I honestly couldn’t even wrap up the series in the small amount of characters I’m allowed within this caption…. All I’ll say is find that little girl inside of you that dreams of being a princess who is strong without anyone else…. this series is for you.

Ps. If you don’t read YA but have a niece, child or friend who does, this series fits nicely into the YA fantasy genre
. No ACOTAR love story type scenes 😉

Ebook

This third book follows Ehren and Sunn. We are able to get to know more about the world and being stone hearted, but there were times that the story was slow. The love triangle for Ehren drags out and is annoying at times (I’m wondering why Mid and Dusane are even interested in hanging around??). And the budding romance for Sunn just isn’t believable at all. I am interested to see how the story ends in terms of the curse, so I will continue on to book 4, but this one was the least successful in the series so far.

I had the pleasure to be one of Kendra Thomas beta readers for this book and everything was amazing!!!I think that Kendra reached an high level with this one!!!you can tell that she grew as a writer and that she is capable of writing stories that you cannot put down!!!At least this is my feeling for her books!!!
This is the third book of #grantedseries and we follow Sabeara’s journey back to her family. All the changes and all the secrets kept from her, led Sabeara to retreat within herself feeling like a stranger. Her relationship with Mid and Dusane become more difficult and the only escape path seems to be this new mission to find a blacksmith that would help them to destroy the enemy.
Sabeara’s journey is linked to Sunn's one!!!this new story was a pure joy for me because is an enemies-to-lovers one and because is well connected with the main one!!!! I loved Sunn's character a lot because she is strong and brave, but I was also attracted by the captain of the Obscurum army, I am sure we will discover more of this entangled character in the next book!!
Guys this book is well written, the world building is amazing, is full of romance, adventure and action, what are you waiting for?

Beloved is book 3 from the Granted Series. It has two parts. The first part is from Sabera’s pov, the second part is from Saber and Sunn’s pov.
We pick up from where Sabera returns home to the new kingdom, a combination of Aveladon and Ethydon… now Knadiel. She’s shocked to find things have changed significantly, hurtful secrets have erupted leaving her more confused than ever.
All of this is going on while she’s trying to figure out her feelings for Mid and Dusane, things get complicated for Sabeara. Yes, I’m still team MID and will ALWAYS be team MID. Even if it means you choose to endure hardships because every relationship isn’t easy. Sabera needs to learn this and fast.
We’re taken on a whirlwind of emotions as she struggles to make her mind up. I may have even thrown the book and yelled at her. Just saying…
Now for Sunn. She was sent to her dads island to keep her safe from the war going on. She can’t stand the confinement and has stowed away on a ship that gets captured by none other than the worst emery alive… Obsidian. But you’ll have to read this to see if this will become an enemies-to-lovers story.

So Many Feelings…

I began this book expecting it to be the final story in a trilogy. I was expecting all the loose ends to begin connecting and wrapping up in a nice bow. This book was full of just as many new questions as the ones it answered. I am hopeful that there will be a fourth and that I’m not left to my own devices to figure out how Sabeara’s story ends.

This third installment is still full of all the adventure of the first two. It does deviate by adding a second voice to the story telling it was a little hard for me to adjust to this new voice, but I was entranced by the end of the book.

What a way to end it!!

This series got a lot better writing wise, story wise and character wise. I love the challenges sabeara faces as she tries to find out who she is, her powers and who her love interest are. There was definitely some sayings with her love issues that one could shatter her, one could free her and keep her safe. I’m usually not a fan of two love interests but she does it well and it makes it feel real.

The new themes coming to life are going to be interesting for book four and I can’t wait to see sunn and her adventures enter-twine with sabeara and her friends.

This is the best book yet imo of the series. So much growth not just with the writing but with the characters as well.

My favorite part was more fighting scenes, especially with more mythical creatures, and then the switch in the story of going out to sea. It was literally a breathe of fresh air for different scenery with the characters and more world building.
