Anaya, a spirit guide, has been tasked with guiding her charge, Kade, to save the Chosen One. There's only one issue: Kade can't hear Anaya's guidance. If she doesn't get through to Kade before her rival, Jordin, tempts him away from his life Plan, the world will end in a way it was never meant to.
In Shifted, by KristaLyn A. Vetovich, we experience the end of the world from a spirit guide's perspective. It is an exploration of the gray areas that lie between what is good and what is evil.

I tried, okay? I really did try, and I failed with this one.
"Shifted" by KristaLyn Vetovich is built around the concept of a spirit guide, Anya, who has been assigned to guide her charge, Kade, to save the Chosen One. But Kade can't hear Anya, so this makes it extremely difficult for her to guide him. And Anya has to get through to Kade before her rival, Jordin, tempts him away from his life Plan, so the world doesn't end the way it wasn't supposed to.
Now I was somewhat interested in this concept at first, but then it became a struggle to even read this book. I did not finish this book at about 6.6%, which is just sad. Whenever there was some type of action going on, I was still bored, and I didn't even understand why it was happening in the first place. I didn't understand what was going on with Anya and how she's a spirit guide, or what the Chosen One even is, and I couldn't even remember the other characters that were introduced. Nothing was really making sense, so I wasn't interested, and I had to force myself to keep reading. That's when I knew this isn't working.
The writing was generic at times, and didn't help whenever there was an action scene. And the characters didn't catch my attention and seemed bland, so I had a hard time keeping up with them.
I wish that I could've enjoyed this more because it seems interesting, but it didn't capture my attention, so I was left bored and uninterested. Maybe I'll try this novel again, but I'm not sure.
Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC of Shifted in exchange for an honest review.
This is a really interesting concept but in practice, it ended up feeling really hollow. Shifted tells Kade's story from the perspective of his spirit guide which could have been really interesting, but actually just ended up leaving the reader even more distanced from a fairly bland cast of characters. The writing was fairly generic if at times a bit too exposition heavy but since there wasn't really any interesting characters or plot points to follow (at least, in my opinion) I didn't enjoy this one.
I really liked this book! It was a fun, enjoyable read that is unlike anything I have read before. I often made time for sitting down and looking into it, and all the characters are written with a realism and touch of charm. Even Kade - who I bonded with his Firn on in thinking he was a ditz in the beginning.
I loved reading from the point of view of Kade’s guardian spirit, known as a Firn - they added humor and wisdom in their narration of the story. It was refreshingly original and enjoyable as a point of view. It added to the experience substantially.
This book is good at mystery and sci-fi/fantasy elements. It kept my attention well, and I could feel how the family went through their struggles. The author is obviously well-practiced as cultivating and creating characters.
Overall, I want to sincerely thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book. It was a fun read!
Welp, got too emotionally attached to book characters again. Honestly? I freaking love this book. The author pulls her readers in with believable characters I instantly care about. Shifted is a book I've never read before. It's delightfully original.
This was a strange book. It hovered over the idea of having a being there to help you make the right choices if you are inclined to listen to them. A little too much for me.

I really like the concept of the novel, but I don't feel it was executed well enough. The reader follows the character Anya, a literal deus ex machina, as she tries to help her charge Kade to change the world. I think this is an extremely interesting idea, but the character development wasn't well done. Many of the characters (the protagonist Kade included) are one-dimensional and don't inspire emotion, even though there are plot points where the author expects us to feel strong emotions for the characters.
That being said, the story is interesting (even if the characters aren't). I plan to finish the series, simply to see how the story goes.
This is a unique story set in Siberia in a possible future dystopia. It is the story Kade, the son of a fisherman and a professional knitter. The story is told by Anaya, a disembodied spirit that is supposed to be guiding Kade, but Kade can't hear him. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
this was a lot of interesting concepts in this book. I loved the idea of a guiding force unable to communicate with their charge. It was a well done story and I hope there is more in this series.
