I like to eat Peanut M&M’s mixed with movie popcorn and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my kryptonite. I enjoy writing stories about flawed women who find their place in the world after overcoming obstacles. I believe strongly that books have the power to heal as much as they entertain.

When I’m not writing, you can find me buried in a book, watching a basketball game, or spending time with my family.

Why all these high ratings?
This leaves a bad taste.

He did not deserve forgiveness or a second chance!
The author misfires here...
*Cheating revealed via an icky sex tape.
*Serial cheating - before and after revelation.
*Multiple partners (known and unknown ow)- needed to be tested imo.
*Horrendous double standards - as per him, her crime is way worse than his (nonstop) cheating even though it was just one man after his betrayal? Because said om is a stripper. :/
*Sense of very misplaced entitlement.
*No regrets! Rather double downs and goes on a cheating spree.
*And now he wants divorce to marry ow? Ok wow!
*Slut shaming his wife and the stripper om (who's so much better than him).
*Pull-push moods.
*Pig-headed destruction of all things good... and so on.

He gave me the icks!
A self-respecting woman would not take him back.

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads.
========================
He cheats on her and has a movie having sex with the other woman.
She finds out and takes revenge by having sex with a stripper.
They can't forgive each other and it turns into a toxic relationship. He decides to get a divorce and he has sex with other women and a serious relationship with a co-worker.
She starts a relationship with the stripper/personal trainer and I confess I liked him better than her cheating husband.
It all turns into a big mess that ends up involving more people with each unfolding of events.
I thought they would each go their separate ways, as he was determined to move on with another woman. But his parents made him rethink everything.

This was well written-in that I felt that the emotions, words and reactions were relatable and genuine.

No one came out of this unscathed.

Spoiler warning:

The H cheats on his wife with someone he knew from high school and they recorded their night together on his phone. The h watched it, confronted him and moved out for a week, leaving her two young daughters with the H. She felt that revenge cheating would help her be able to move past his betrayal. That’s where the story begins.

The characters have a messy journey and I felt the author articulated well the roller coaster of emotions and actions and reactions that is the aftermath of cheating and twice fold for double cheating.

I feel bad for the side characters who became collateral damage of the H and h’s relationship drama.

This book was such a cheating mess.
h had depression and she did not realise, they did not have so much sex after kids were born, she was tired all the time etc. The usual. Husband felt neglected. So a high school friend hits him up in FB, they flirt hard and then he is sent to her town do do business, they meet up and fuck. He enjoys it alot and tapes the whole thing. He forgets to delete it. Wife sees it (book starts a week after finding out video).
So the week away h decides to get back and fucks a stripper.. whole night and enjoys it.
They she comes back, they do some counceling etc.. a limbo of a lot of hurt for a month, where she is still the victim. Then h saws some pussy pictures OW sent to H (H did not contact OW ever again after that night, blocked her, but she made a new number and sent her hoohaaaa pic). h tells H that she cheated on him also.. and with a stripper no less.
So.. now H is supper upset and betrayed. He is like f counceling and i want a divorse. He has sex with OW2, at some point breaks up with her - because she becomes clingy. h has sex with the stipper again and kinda-not dating him. Like friends with benefits. H has realationship with OW3. h is still with stripper.
All that is like 2-3 months i believe.
Anyway.. at the end of the book H is kinda schocked that h is somewhat serious about OM and wants her back and ends with OW3. (so he has sexed 3 women at least during all this).
h ends with OM (and OM is no clean guy, he sexed up also other people during all this, because it is his job).
both H and OM "love" h, even when they do have sex with other people.
Ending is open.. kinda.. but they both agree h and H to fight for their marriage and no OW/OMs anymore.

SMH!!! This whole crew is cray-cray!
Lies. deceit, betrayal, a sex video featuring the side chick and revenge that turns out to be not so sweet! And then the side chick thinks she has the right to step to the wife. Really???
Rashad cheated on his wife and left the video on his phone. How do you recover from that? Have revenge sex with a male stripper? And then it was one stupid move after another.
The kicker? Their precious little girls are the ones most hurt by all of their parent's foolishness.

Not your typical route to HEA

This is my first read by the author. The title and synopsis intrigued me. Watching the marriage of Rashad and Joy unraveled was heartbreaking. I wasn't sure how it would end...I wasn't sure who to root for because at times they were equally frustrating and I wanted to shake them. I am glad the author stressed the importance of self care and mental health. In some cases of fallen marriages one may need to examine mental health which is often overlooked and ignored. I sat in one spot all day until I finished reading this book...it was that good.

DNF-ed at 54%

Reading 200 pages of this nearly gave me a menty b.

Some reasons why I think I now need (extra) therapy:

The heroine (Joy) on her marriage counsellor.
"Dr. Osborne was a shade of brown that could fit somewhere between Rashad and me. I felt like Rashad chose a black man purposely because he felt like things would be more understood and favorable towards him."

Said marriage counsellor clearly having a favourite (right after wifey confesses the details of her tit-for-tat affair with a "dancer").
"I knew he would act like that," I expressed. "So, did I," he responded, surprising me. "Huh?" "No matter who you told him it was, he was going to react like that because men have this pride thing, especially black men. We can't accept when the woman we love cheats on us. We can't imagine it and the reality of it makes us lose it."

Funny enough, we are supposed to be siding with the heroine. Philip is NOT her husband.
Feeling confused and lonely, I went to Philip's IG page and sent him an emoji of a cup of coffee. Then I sat in my car, not knowing what would happen next. I just knew that I didn't want to go home, and I also didn't want to be alone.

We love a strong, confident woman.
"And now we’re playing games?” she asked. "What game am I playing?" I asked with irritation. "The last time I checked, you were married. And you’ve been stringing me along while trying to work things out with him.” "I wasn't stringing you—"

I am not sure who thinks about the exact HUE of the skin of everyone they talk to. The author seemed to be obsessed with cataloguing the precise food that each character's skin resembled. That was weird.

And there's the unfortunate *sprinkle sprinkle* of wokeness here and there (miss me on the phoney systemic racism, f the patriarchy propaganda), but never from the "heroine". Woman was clearly asleep when she should be awake to her hypocrisy and self-righteousness. The way she acted had me embarrassed for her. I thought it would be interesting to read about how a couple would deal with "tit for tat" cheating. But here, all we got was a heroine that was puerile, selfish and lacked any sense of self-awareness. She had the moral compass of a cockroach.

Rashad, her husband, did not fare much better. Absolute cheese for brains.

You can't convince me the average rating of this literary masterpiece is accurate. 4.11 stars is criminal.

Poo Phil. Phil is the MVP. Phil is the reason I’m rating this 3 stars.
Everybody else sucks specially the MMC who’s acting like the poor fuckin victim as if he didn’t deliberately cheated and when the FMC got even and also cheated he slut shamed Phil’s profession. Such a cockroach.

The slut shaming of Rashad here is just purely disgusting.

Also the portrayal of marriage that when it’s the woman who cheated the husband say DIVORCE faster than he can get STD for his nasty ass. But if it’s the man who cheated, the wife will “have to fight for her marriage”. It’s so bad cuz what’d you take woman for? 🤨

Storytelling: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Editing: ⭐⭐⭐

When someone gifts you a book, to me it means that they love the work of the author. This was my first time reading Little's work. My thought was to read the synopsis and get back to it later...I was immediately taken in. Rashad and Joy, I loved to hate them to rooting for them to throwing my Kindle because of all of the pain they were causing each other. I had to catch myself because I almost started praying for them, lol. I had to tell myself they are not real! I read this book between three devices: computer, phone and Kindle. To me, was believable. I could see this happening. It was very realistic. I loved their support system. Their families rooted for them was so encouraging. You can come back from almost anything if you are willing to do the hard work.I talked and fussed at them the whole book and when I finished, I fell back on the sofa as if I had worked a whole job. There was a beautiful tribute to Chadwick Boseman that had me tearing up in the author's words at the end. I read everything from cover to cover.

Another part that I loved was the mental health part. How many people are walking around functioning depressed? I liked the delving into the issue and the desire to be mentally healthy. Joy finally was ready to do the hard work after being resistant when the doctor pointed out some of his concerns. There were plenty of aha moments throughout the story.

Danesha Little has quickly become one of my favorite authors! I just started reading her books 4 days ago! And discovered her books thanks to Goodreads. Her stories are so relatable, touch on sensitive and deep issues, pulls at your heartstrings, and promotes healing. And this book did not disappoint in those areas. I honestly recognize a lot of myself in each of her books, but this book really spoke to things I have been struggling with lately and it was like holding up a mirror to myself. The counseling and healing advice promoted throughout this book really spoke to me and showed me areas that I need to receive healing and be more open to understanding the feelings within my own marriage. Although there are grammatical errors peppered throughout her books, this one included, it wasn’t enough to take away the powerful impact her stories have on me while reading them. Her storylines are realistic, her characters reflect real people, real feelings, and real reactions and draws you in so you cannot put her books down. I can’t wait to read what new stories Mrs Little has for us next!

Cheating…

You never know how someone feels unless you working in their shoes. No amount of sorries can fix a spouse’s cheating or any relationship for that matter. It was ok for Rashad to fix his marriage when he was the one cheating, he was determined to “fix it”… but one the shoe turned, oh boy ! it was “unfixable “… men and their double standards! I like Phil and too bad he ended up getting hurt. Rashad had no problem “ moving on”… so typical of a man…
Vanessa, you got what you deserve!!
I love parents, so supportive and all .

I Love Second Chance Novels 🥰

I hadn't expected to read this book 🤷🏾‍♀️. It was recommended and after reading the sample I was hooked. I liked Joy, but I didn't like her decisions at times. However, I understood them. She was an amazing mother who put her kids first and recognized the mental health struggles she was suffering from. I am glad she was honest with Phillip. I did like him, but he wasn't it for her to me. Joy was a great person that just made a few mistakes along the way that she met head on.

As for Rashad I can see he wanted his marriage at the end, but I wouldn't have taken him back. First, he cheats on his wife and even records it. If she never found that video he would have never told her. Then gets upset when she cheats on him going as far to want a divorce. He was purely stubborn, along with Joy, but hypocritical as well. He cheats and Joy wants to work it out she cheats and he wants a divorce. All he kept saying was that she was worse because she did it with a stripper. He was hot and cold because one minute he wanted her after having a relationship with another women at one point and the next he moved on and started another relationship with a women instead of continuing to fight for his marriage. He even went as far to attack Phillip when he first saw them together though he was already messing around with someone. He was the definition of double standards 🙄 and I couldn't look passed it.

I would have actually preferred Joy to be without anyone at the end. What she said was true what trying to get even it won't fix anything, but make it worse. I did love there family and friends especially Rashads parents. They were honest and kept him accountable.

I give this book a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 and not just because of the romance, but the topic of mental health, fitness, and realistic issues every couple suffers from. First time reading a book by Danesha Little and I can say she didn't disappoint!

This will probably be one of the realest, rawest reviews I ever leave. This story was so personal and had me reflecting back on my own moments of despair in my marriage....

This book took me on a journey! I was emotional throughout the entire book, from the very first page. I had to put the book down at times, bc the ups and downs reminded me of my postpartum and rocky marriage after the birth of my son. It was all too real at times for me.

However, this book was so beautifully written and pulled you in the entire time. In the beginning I found myself rooting for Joy and Rashad... then somewhere in the middle I wanted Phillip to win... I was just as confused as Joy seemed to be. I was really glad that she was able to take a step back and focus on herself and get to where she needed to be. I will say that I felt a little bad for Phillip. I know they weren't meant to be, but he was still an overall great dude!

Once I got to "The End" I had to exhale. Danesha Little will leave you reeling, in the best way possible, after every book.

Great Job Danesha! Can't wait to read whatever is next!!!

This author is becoming one of my favorite angsty romance writers. She took me thru it with this one. So many times I wanted to throw my kindle out the window and I loved every frustrating moment of it. She really dug into the ugly with this one and I honestly didn’t even know who I wanted to cheer for while reading (I kept flipping back and forth). I really went into this thinking it would end one way but she took me on a rollercoaster ride that had me unsure of who Joy would end up with (if she even ended up with anyone). I was still guessing up to the end!

So why not 5 stars? The grammatical errors were excessive. I understand that independent authors don’t always have an editor option, so I don’t knick pick about a few grammatical errors (hell I make errors when righting my reviews). However, it was distracting in this one. The book was addictive enough that I pushed thru the errors, but I hope this improves with future books because this author definitely has 5 star angsty writing.

Can’t wait to see what rollercoaster ride she takes us on next time!

Emotional rollercoaster

This was my first read by Ms. Little but it will not be my last. One bad decision by Rashad took his and Joy's marriage down a very rocky and destructive path. Joy's retaliation at finding out about Rashad's one night stand by sleeping with a male dancer set off even more destruction for these two. In the struggle for their marriage they fight and sex and separate and start relationships with other people. Their families and friends fought for marriage at times harder than they did.Joy and Rashad were both so busy pointing blame and wanting to be right neither one really took enough time to figure out the main issues that led to them both sleeping with orher people. Ms. Little told a very detailed story of a marriage rocked bu infidelity and insecurities. I will read other works by this author.

Two wrongs don’t make it right

This book is an emotional rollercoaster. Getting even is never a good idea especially in a marriage. Rashad was wrong but Joy was team petty. Her name did not express what she felt. Both made major mistakes but had a supportive village that wouldn’t let them give up. Rashad’s dad spoke words of wisdom that lit a fire in him.
I love the black girl magic that Joy expressed through her art(Wakandaforever). I That piece is so important right now. This book showed that you must heal and do the work first. The references to places in NC is always nice(Special Forces all day). Two wrongs don’t make it right but will to fight and come back sometimes makes those wrongs right. Black love forever.

This was a great, emotional read!! I was on the edge waiting to see how it played out. As a divorcee and someone who has experienced infidelity, some parts were hard to read because I know personally how the characters were feeling. People don't realize how their actions affect not just them and their spouse but their whole support system is affected and the babies.. :( . At points I was angry at both Rashad AND Joy. Funny how men can dish it and can't take it smh lol. This was a different story line than what I have been reading and I am glad it ended the way it did. It takes humility, accountability and a desire to heal self in order to overcome. Thank you for your gift! And it was bittersweet to read the Black Panther references too.. #WakandaForever

Whew, this story had me ravenous

The story began with a couple broken from infidelity. And then things spiral so far out of control, I hurt for them. Sometimes listening to friends helps to see things clearer and others it's hard to say. Rashad started something that his wife was determined I get even. Getting even wasn't as easy as she thought. Although extra people became entangled in their relationship, it was easy to see Rashad and Joy still loved one another. The stubborn side and hurt feelings took a toll on what should have been a smaller fence to mend, instead of the humongous mess their decisions became. I'm married so this story was a difficult read. I'm so happy it ended in a high note.

A hard lesson learned....

Rashad and Joy had to learn a lot of hard lessons in their marriage. They both had to learn how to communicate with the other. I loved the gems that Rashad's parents were dropping. They made sure to remind them they were still rooting for them and they can survive this bump in their marriage. I was glad that Rashad and Joy found their way back to each other for themselves and their little ladies.

Another great read by Ms. Little as usual. She always drops a page-turner. If you have never indulged in any of her reads you should, you will definitely enjoy it.

I always want to make sure I acknowledge the reference to Black Panther. It came right when the world needed it. I read your author's note at the end and realize how much of a coincidence it was.

Getting it right!

This story was not your typical romance novel! It was a journey of betrayal, mistakes, self discovery, healing, faith, and growth. As Joy and Rashad went through their marital discord, so many revelations were brought to light that proved that a strong relationship is only as good as the foundation, love, and support it's based upon. And fortunately they were able to draw from all these resources when they needed them most. With each story Danesha pens, you can tell that she pours her heart and soul into it, and leaves it all on the page! Yet another shining example of why she's a one click author for me! #WakandaForever

Levels of Love

There are so many levels of love to unpack and the author peels back every layer of them in this novel. This book explores the depths of a seemingly perfect marriage that is rocked to its core by infidelity. The author does a magnificent job of going through the various emotional states of both spouses as individuals and as a couple. She taps into the background and how their pasts, unearthed insecurities, little fibs, and non-and miscommunication adds up to their marriage imploding. It’s a tale of searching the outside world for context clues to heal what only searching within yourself can find. Rashad and Joy, with the help and hinderance of the people around them, travel the road of rivals to redemption in this soul-stirring account of married life and the true meaning of unconditional love. Be prepared for gut wrenching emotion, tears, but most of all, a newfound appreciation of real love.

Loved it

I want to start by saying this was suggested in a Facebook group and it looked really good. I'm so happy I read this book. I was totally hooked from the very first chapter and had to know how it was going to end.
I was all over the place I was shocked, livid and then just hurt at the way Rashad was treating Joy. Then there was Phillip who in his own way did love Joy, I was cheering for him.... Until I wasn't..
I loved the angst, gut-wrenching fights, Rashad just didn't get it only his pride and feelings. I couldn't believe he did what he did what he did, and stuck to it til he knew what he was losing. I really enjoyed this story

This book was a wild ride. I’m not happy after finishing, but it was certainly entertaining.

Honestly, I just do not like Rashad at all. Some of the things he said, plus the fact that he seems completely unable to be celibate for even short period of times, was just too much for me. Joy was guilty too, I know. But Rashad called her “foul” and I flinch away from the book and wondered how he was going to come back from that. For me, he didn’t. He also immediately jumps into “messing around” with women. Ew.

I felt so bad for Phil. I wanted him to be loved and happy. Strippers deserve love too! Lol.

Lights Camera Action

This is my first time reading this author’s work. I so enjoyed the story even though I wished it wasn’t so bland. It was predictable and I felt like it could have been such a great romance. I thought that it was a little drawn out and the sex scenes could have been better written especially since there were so many of them. The couple should have started dating again mid way through the book and rekindled their love for each other not just sex which didn’t seem that good anyway. I don’t want to spoil it so read and enjoy.

A compelling realistic fantastic read

The premise was intriguing and DL delivered a realistic story about love and marriage when the fairytale wears completely off and when folks have to get real about their ish. I really enjoyed this story and felt that Rashad and Joy as much as they frustrated me at times, presented realistically because truth is folks so dumb stuff and/or make bad decisions when they’re hurting and fail to address it. This journey wasn’t an easy one but it made the pay-off that much sweeter because it was hard fought.

Whew child this book 📖 has took me through the emotions! I didn’t know if I wanted to finish reading or just stop! The emotions I felt throughout this journey, I know first hand! I can say one ☝️ thing that stood out in this book was self love! Loving yourself and having metal stability is important! Then you can find yourself loving yourself and the ppl around you the more! Having that support system is truly a great thing! This book is a must read!

I loved this!!

I don't know if I can find the words to describe how good this book was. The feels it brought out were epic. The storyline was so true to life, I am at this point wondering if this was a true story. It hit right home and I understood everything that each character experienced. This was a pleasantly unexpected read and my first from this author. I can say, if this is how she writes all her books, allowing the reader to feel immensely, I will definitely be reading more from her. Absolutely, breathtakingly wonderful.... So glad I chose to read this 😊

When Art becomes Life

Wow, this book really hit home for me. I must admit because of my own personal trauma this book was hard for me. However, Ms. Little did such a good job with bringing to life all of the raging emotions that cheating brings out. This book was so deep and brings to mind how hurting people hurt people. Kudos to Ms. Little for taking us on such an insightful journey of forgiveness and healing. Lastly, I fell in love with Phillips’s character and would love to read his future story but not with Claudia. He deserves one, for being such a nice guy.
