One debt. One secret. One night.
I have a secret and I'll do everything in my power to keep it that way.
I've been watching her for a long time.
I've been following her.
She's lost a brother. I lost a best friend, but no one could ever know.
She's in pain, and so am I.
She deserves so much better than me. I am rotten to the core and if I take this any further, I will pull her into my darkness.
But I can't stay away. I can't stop.
What happens when she starts to uncover my lies? What happens if love isn't enough?

I'm not supposed to know his name and he's not supposed to know mine. But we break that rule. That's not the only one.

He gives me chills and makes my body ache. He makes my pain go away. He's just a distraction, but I can't get enough of him.

What I don't know yet is that he will help save my mother's life.
What I don't know yet is that I'll owe him a debt.
What I don't know yet is that he is a man of many secrets. Secrets dark enough to break us both.

DNF I stopped reading this book about 40% into this story. The reviews made this book sound amazing but was very disappointed when the storyline as well as the characters were disappointing and just plain boring. I reread some of the reviews to see what I may have lost somewhere in the translation of this novel and still can't figure out how this book got huge raves.

I am a big Charlotte Byrd fan having devoured many of her earlier series expecting this book to do the same, but it did not. I found this book lacking characters I could connect with and a storyline that just fell short with little substance, insight and depth. The story centers around a sex club called "Redemption" and the characters that meet there. I wish I could say there was some story here, but failed to see anything that was interesting enough to complete or to continue with the series.

Dark Intentions first few chapters were so thrilling and exciting. What a wonderful character and plot development.
Dante and Jacqueline meet in a very odd and strange way and place, but they connect immediately. I loved how they both trusted their instincts when it came to each other.
The story was good, with a lot going on, but that ending?? Oh my, that was a very big cliffhanger!

Dark Intentions by Charlotte Byrd is the beginning of another captivating new series that is dark ,suspenseful and full of emotion. Overall this sensual story has plenty of drama, secrets, intrigue and lies which will have you on edge throughout this story.

Dante is the charismatic, wealthy handsome man who has a secret that will change the course of his life. He as been watching Jaqueline for months knows about her loss ,heartbreak and financial struggles and finds he is overwhelming drawn to her. Dante is tied to his job with no place to call home as he constantly travels for work and has a chaotic relationship with his brother and overbearing mother. But soon finds he will be manipulated at work when his boss is pushing him into a deal that he knows is not what it seems leaving him on edge with the threat of him losing his job if he doesn't do what his boss wants. Jacqueline just needs one night for herself and when she is urged by her friend to attend Redemption Club to have a night of decadent passion, one night will change her life forever when she meets Dante and they break all of the rules.

Soon they discover that they can't stop thinking about each other and the night they shared when they meet again, their interaction will set the stage of a relationship that is full of passion, desire which will consume both of them. When Jacqueline learns all of her mother's treatments have been paid anonymously she is overjoyed with emotion and finds that Dante wants to be with her throughout her mother's ordeal which is pushing them closer together. But will their happiness be short lived? Soon everything changes when by accident Jaqueline learns a shocking fact regarding payment of her mother's medical debt. Now she is left wondering who is this man that she has fallen in love with and why was she being manipulated this way? Now we are left with an ending that will have you on edge as we have to wait for the next book to find out how Jacqueline will deal with all of the secrets and lies, when she learns who the donor is. How will she pay back this debt? What secrets is Dante hiding and why is he so protective of Jacqueline? on one side, i love how this book provides so much professional knowledge. about high risk investing, marketing, and even how to apply a job (i hope i receive that lesson much earlier lol). you get that sense that the characters really HAVE the job and you are running it with them. I even hope Dante kept talking about how he builds his professional life and everything that aspires him.

plotline-wise, there’s almost nothing i can talk about unless that there’s very little going on. this is the first book on the series so to say the story in it was treated like it is just the beginning from the journey and leaves many point unanswered. the chemistry between the main characters is lukewarm but yeah between their limited interaction i actually can feel their vibes start filling in. I’m having fun and is definitely jumping to the second book.

More like dull intentions. Way too many side plots going on, not enough explanation… why is Dante following Jacquelin? How does he know her brother? How does he not know he works for the mafia? I expected much more “dark” from their sexcapades… but snooze fest. Not interested enough to keep going with their story… but I see I am a minority opinion and others really seem to like this so maybe don’t listen to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

i’m a big fan these days of our author Charlotte Byrd so I was pleased to find this series when I was looking for something new to read. I’m in a bit of a stop gap right now waiting for a few ‘next books’ in series to come out.

This is one of those stories that you already know how it’s going to go, and you’re just along for the ride. Jacqueline is at an interesting point in her life and i’m not entirely sure how she got there. She’s graduated from a really good college, but I don’t think that she’s ever truly worked a job. Her twin brother has recently died and that set her life into a tailspin. Her mother has also been really sick with Cancer and has the opportunity to get into an experimental treatment, but that comes with it’s own risks.

Through all this turmoil, Jacqueline is working to find herself. She uses men to feel something but doesn’t necessarily get what she needs from them. Its’ through her friend Allison (roommate from college) that she learns about Redemption. A series of private clubs that caters to people with unique tastes, unconventional tastes sexually – and it seems like it could be right for her. While she’s not necessarily comfortable there, she meets a man who makes it all worthwhile.

Enter Dante – a man who comes from a distinctly different background, with more means than imaginable, but he is searching for much of the same that Jacqueline is. They meet one night at Redemption and have a night to remember. Then they go their separate ways, and we watch the story unforld.

What we don’t know (or rather what Jacqueline doesn’t know) is that Dante has some sort of connection to her, or at least perhaps her brother – and we don’t know what that line of connection is. What we do know is that he’s been watching her, watching out for her, and while he didn’t know that she would be at Redeption, it’s not a bad thing.

The story from here is a whirlwind. Jacqueline’s mother’s treatment costs a lot more money than she can ever come up with and Dante has that money. Secretly he pays for that treatment and there’s a new lease on life. At the same time, both of these two characters can’t get one another out of their head but since they shared no real information, Jacqueline doesn’t know how to find Dante, until they cross paths again.

When they do, it’s just as intense and deep, and we watch something interesting unfold. He’s there for her while her mother gets her treatment and when things take a turn for the worse. He’s not just a shoulder to cry on, but he’s something more – they both feel it. the challenge of course is that there’s a secret that she doesn’t know – that Dante is linked to her and we all know what will happen when she finds out. And that’s where we are left at the end of the book.

Thankfully I have a few train rides this week that I can try to read on, and see what happens in book 2. I anticipate anger, frustration, lies, and then the hot steamy spark that they shared in the first book. There has to be more to the story than what we’ve seen

At first, I thought about listing this as a DNF. I don't care too much for sex clubs these days. But to my surprise, this book has one sex scene. Even more so, it's not that detailed or hot but I think Dante has potential. He has this sensuality to him.

Still, I left feeling confused. Not that we didn't get deep into the characters lives but there is some disconnect between where we started and ended. Either we needed more pages or the unveiling of his crazy behaviour should have wait until book two.

I understand her struggles but I don't have a solid footing on Jacqueline. I feel like all her decisions and actions derive from a sick mom, dead brother and deadbeat dad.

She's secure enough to troll the bars for guys but then she's very self-conscious and unsure when it comes to dating. She can somehow afford to join or drink at what must be a super expensive sex club but she's deep in debt and the only reason she isn't filing for bankruptcy is so that she can keep getting credit cards to rack up debt.

I believe she has a bachelors and was close to completing her masters but it doesn't seem like she knows what direction to go with her life.

Then there is Dante.

He seems like a normal, honest man who is running away from his dysfunctional family but then he's also, without consent, logging into Jacqueline's iCloud and reading her messages among maybe other crazy ass things.

The thing is, when he isn't displaying this stalker-like behaviour, he just seems like a good guy who loves his work and acts as the voice of reason for his family.

I cannot connect him with the dark side of this novel.

Either way, Charlotte Byrd has turned my opinion around because I want book two. It's all been a bit clinical and happened a tad faster than I expected but I want to see where they go from here and surprisingly, I want to see her meet his mother.

This book is also currently FREE on Amazon.

I wanted to like this so much more. Dante and Jacqueline's initial meet, and emotions resulting from it, had the makings of a great story. There was just so much back story on them individually that their story never developed for me. I realize this is a series and I'm sure the next book gets the ball rolling a bit more but I won't be reading it. I wanted to be drawn more into them and not their pasts.

Dante and Jacqueline’s story starts off with a bang. Saddened by her brother's death, Jacqueline is struggling with daily life, taking care of her sick mother and trying to get through the day. When these two meet at the club it’s not by chance. Dante knows who she is, but she doesn’t know him. Dante and her brother Michael were best friends, but no one knew that. He’s been watching her, short of obsessed with her, he knows everything, and still he can’t stay away when he sees her at the club. It shouldn’t happen, he should stay away, but there’s something about her and she feels a pull toward him. When Dante reads a text when he shouldn’t have, he sees that Jacqueline’s mother needs help and steps in anonymously. Will his actions have consequences? Will all of this be for nothing when she finds out what he did? What are Dante’s deep seeded secrets and who is he really? So many questions still waiting for answers. Can’t wait for the next book!

critique : you spent the whole book basically catching up to the end of the synopsis. it would’ve been much easier to either make a simpler and less plot-following book synopsis OR made the story much shorter to catch us up to where the synopsis leads us to… instead of us reading the whole novel to get to what we already know happens.

it’s a good storyline, enough to have caught my attention to read! but you lose the intrigue and connection when i’m reading page to page wondering when something new is going to happen - bc everything that’s happened was, in basic words, already told to you in the introduction 🙈

3.75 stars--DARK INTENTIONS is the first instalment in Charlotte Byrd’s contemporary adult DARK INTENTIONS erotic, romantic suspense trilogy. This is businessman Dante Langston, and receptionist Jacqueline Archer’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Dante and Jacqueline) DARK INTENTIONS follows Jacqueline Archer as she struggles with events in her life. Her twin brother Michael was killed three months earlier; her mother Elizabeth’s cancer has returned with a vengeance, and the experimental treatment costs are out of her reach. When a friend suggests the $ex club Redemption to blow off a little steam, Jacqueline finds herself up close and personal with mystery man Dante (Langston), a man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine. An anonymous donor pays for Elizabeth’s treatment but all is not well when the treatments begin.

Meanwhile, Dante’s brother Lincoln’s life is about to implode, and our hero battles with head office regarding the investment into a company with questionable financial anomalies but Dante is about to drop everything when a call from Jacqueline reveals her mother’s failing health.

DARK INTENTIONS is a story of secrets, power, money and control. Dante Langston knows more about Jacqueline Archer than has yet to be revealed, and in this their connection may be deeper than anyone could have imagined. The premise is intriguing; the romance is steamy; the characters are battling personal and professional demons at every turn.

-->I do have one particular issue with the time line in this particular instalment. It is mentioned Dante’s mother was a socialite in the 1960s; her first husband left her in 1968, yet she supposedly just turned sixty years old. The story is set in the present as there is mention of an Apple™ watch, but to have been married in 1968, Dante’s mother Marguerite would have been seven years old…therefore, the author needs to re-establish a correct timeline otherwise Dante’s mother is not 60 but closer to 75-80 years old.

DARK INTENTIONS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

If you're looking for a book that is complete, this book is not for you. Another author who gets you caught up in the story and then ends in the middle, necessitating that you purchase another book to get to the end. I do not recommend this book or this author.

This is book one in The Dark Intentions Series and it is Dante and Jaqueline's story and omg what an amazing start to this new series. Jacqueline has gone to a club called The Redemption after it being recommended to her and even though she feels out of place and uncomfortable until she bumps into a man named Dante and that is when things get very interesting which is what she needs after her twin brother died three months ago and her mum's cancer has returned and they need £250-000 for her mum's treatment to try and keep her alive but where can they get that type of money. Dante has been watching over Jacqueline for quite a while but he doesn't want her to know so when he sees her at The Redemption Club he sets out to spend some time with her and see what happens next but he will have to be careful as he has many secrets that he doesn't want revealed. The connection and chemistry between them it so hot and instant that you can feel it sizzling of the pages of this book but Jacqueline has so much going on in her life right now that she is not sure why Dante is there or what will happen next. Omg what a cliff hanger ending and I can't wait to read the one book in this amazing series as I need to know what will happen next as I couldn't put this book down as it was a real page turner and so addictive. Just remember that you will need to read the next book to continue this story as it is not a standalone book but I can tell you that you will definitely not be disappointed as Charlotte Byrd is an amazing author and writer and her books are definitely worth reading as she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention and on the edge of there seats.

Another winner by this prolific writer! Charlotte Byrd gives the reader all of the ‘feels’ of a great romantic suspense—secrets, mystery, and drama—she just doesn’t disappoint. This is book one of The Dark Intentions trilogy. This is Dante Langston and Jacqueline Archer’s story, and from the reading, you can tell it will be a roller coaster ride from hell. I loved this story, and especially the handsome, sexy, wealthy, confident, demanding, workaholic, and no nonsense alpha Dante. When Dante meets Jacqueline at The Redemption Club, sparks fly and ignite when their agendas clash. Jacqueline and Dante are drawn together like the proverbial moth to the flame and their chemistry is palpable, reflected in every look, every touch, and every word uttered between them. What Jacqueline doesn’t know is that the truth isn’t always what it seems—she doesn’t realize that, but she will. Charlotte Byrd has a unique way of writing her alpha males and the dark character of Dante that is the perfect foil for Jacqueline’s inner strength and innocence. There are several twists and turns within the storyline that will pique your interest—you will not be disappointed. This is a definite MUST READ! I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This dark dangerous thrilling plot, what a great plot development. Gorgeous, wealthy has a wealthy mother a famous father who was a journalist and author who people loved. His father did not come from wealth, he came from poor beginnings, and he married into wealth. His mother expected certain expectations from her sons and that is to marry someone who is as wealthy as they are to get their trust fund because their grandfather left him and his brother a Trust fund. His brother Lincoln is married to a physician who was his longtime girlfriend and because she does not come from money or make the type of money his grandfather expected for him to marry but Lincoln and his wife Margarite are in love with each other and has been for a long time, they went to Yale together. So, we find Jaqueline and Dante meeting in an exclusive club called Redemption. They fall in lust together with one another and have started a relationship. What Jaqueline does not know is that Dante has been keeping track of her since the death of her twin brother Michael, which was the cause of Jaqueline being in the club to begin with.
This is a good read, and I cannot wait to read the next stories in the episode. I have books 1-5 in the series in one book so I will be reading that. Charlotte Byrd books are definitely good reading.

This is book one in The Dark Intentions Series, and OMG what a brilliant first book, this is the start of Dante and Jaqueline's story.

Jacqueline has gone to a club called The Redemption on the recommendation of her friend Alison, at first she feels out of place and uncomfortable until she bumps into a man named Dante, if that is his real name as you don't have to give any real details.

She is not in a good place as her mom needs treatment for her cancer which costs $250K and they haven't the money, but suddenly it is paid in full by an anonymous benefactor who was Dante but she doesn't know that, we don't learn why he is so interested in her in this book but he is, and when her mom isn't doing well after the surgery he is there for her.

I loved this book and cant wait for the next as it was left at an interesting cliff hanger, once again Charlotte has drawn you in immediately leaving you wanting more. An easy 5 stars for this book!

I LOVED this sad story. The main characters Jacqueline & Dante meet up in a private “ sex club” where you have to ono someone to be invited to. You are not supposed to give any personal o formation about yourself. Upon leaving, they both realize they are madly in love with the other & cannot stop thinking of each other. Jacqueline’s life is going thru some hardships & Dante magically yet secretly is able to help her. It seems that she finds out, secretly of course, about his helpfulness. Who knows what happens next? Dark Intentions just leaves you hanging!!! I am now going to read the Bonus Scenes to see if I get any more information and then try to fund Dark Redemption which is the next in this series to get even more information. Hoping it gets juicier & doesn’t just leave me hanging.
Update on Bonus Scenes: not worth it. Though they are back in the “ sex club” & hot, heavy steamy stuff going on, it doesn’t continue with the event going on in Jacqueline’s life.

This is the first book in a new series and it gets off to a powerfully intriguing and sinfully enticing start. I was quickly pulled into Jaqueline and Dante's story. We're just getting started and already you can tell that these two are going to take you on a colossal roller coaster ride that with have you totally breathless and anxious, while your poor heart is put through the wringer. When these two meet you can practically feel a seismic shift occur and the electrifying buzz of chemistry showcases the volatile combustion that is simmering and awaiting that single spark that is going to set it all off. The writing is well done, the pacing excellent and the blend of tension, emotion, drama and secrets potent and oh so addicting. There is a cliffhanger here and I desperately need book two just as soon as I can get my hands on it!! I am electing to post a candid review.

A secret kept, but for good intentions.

Dante & Jacqueline have a very slow burn going on. Her best friend convinces her to go to Redemption, a sex club, where they meet. Dante travels a lot with his job, but he goes to sex clubs in various cities throughout the US. Jacqueline only has a part-time job, but has a lot going on in her life, such as her mother having cancer. There is an experimental trial that her mother gets approved for, only they can’t pay for it. They are attracted to one another, and that stops both of them from being with anyone else. They meet again at Redemption at a masquerade party. They keep in touch, until Jacqueline doesn’t anymore. Dante has a secret he’s keeping from her, which she finds out at the end of this book. Well, how is this going to turn out going forward in the next book. I can’t wait to find out.

This story was twisted, I can't wait to read the continuation. Dark Intentions is steamy with quite a bit of mystery. All these secrets must come to light at some point.

Dante seems to know so much about Jacqueline, yet he never lets on how or why. He is there for her in her time of need and this seems as though he could be a good friend or even more. But these secrets.....

Jacqueline is in mourning and trying new things to help her get past her grief. When she meets Dante, there is something about him that calls to her.

Can this newfound "friendship" survive these secrets? This new series should be very interesting.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Entertaining, Page-turner, Steamy, Twisted, Unpredictable

I feel like this is a suspense building story. It starts out slow and it slowly creeps from one situation to another. It feels like each step is calculated. Yet I sense no danger. Yet there is a question in the back of my mind asking what is Dante all about? And what does he have to do with Jacqueline? In this book we get a background on Jacqueline and Dante's families. Not pleasant. Jacqueline is going through some heavy, heavy emotional struggles right now. While Dante is suspicious of his boss and a client his boss threatened him to deal with. On to the next book with anxious expectations.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Page-turner
Realistic
Steamy
Tear-jerker
Tragic
Unpredictable

Not so dark Dark Romance. Jacqueline is mourning the death of her twin brother and concerned for her mother who has cancer. Her best friend encourages her to go to Redemption, a sex club. Reluctantly she agrees and meets Dante. He is quite interested in her and persuades her to have sex with him, no strings attached. She wants to but can't let herself loosen up. Afterwards they part ways, but she wants to see him again and visits the club. He's not there though and disappointed she figures that's the end. Very little sex, dark or otherwise. I liked the characters although Jacqueline is so wishy-washy that I could slap her. Dante can't stay away from her but he obviously has secrets. Good story but unfortunately the book ends on a dratted cliffhanger!
