The weekend of the championship game, all football star Tre Griffin wants is to escape Miami and the reminder that he’s not playing. When his flight out of town is delayed, he meets Michael Pappas in the hotel bar. Their attraction is immediate, and when he discovers Michael has no idea who he is, Tre decides to act on it.

When footballer Tre Griffin stops off in the hotel bar after his flight is delayed, the last thing he expects to find is instant attraction with a fellow hotel guest. Not only is the attraction reciprocated by the bespectacled teacher he meets, but he doesn’t seem to know who Tre is. After the last few weeks that he’s had, that is definitely a plus.

Michael Pappas decides to lock himself away to get through a round of exam papers in a quiet surrounding. He is also hiding from parents who are desperate for grand kids. When he meets a fellow hotel guest at the bar who seems interested, he wastes no time in playing ball.

This is the first in the Calendar Boy’s series, and what a start! January is definitely the month for Tre and Michael. Both are at the hotel hiding from family obligations for different reasons, but open enough to the possibility that anything can happen - usually when you least expect it.

Tre is leery of picking up strangers. As a high profile footballer, the risk doesn’t seem worth losing his career over. Meanwhile Michael is under the impression that his geeky looks are not attractive enough for the right guy.

Michael shows great strength in introducing Tre to his family with all the pressure they have placed on him, while Tre takes a chance to be introduced to a football mad family, not knowing what will happen when they figure out that he is Michael’s date and not jut a friend.

This is the first book in the Calendar Boys series. Tre is a famous football star and Michael a bookish stud who wears glasses and knows nothing about football. This story takes place during just one weekend but it describes the falling in lust and love so deliciously that I totally believed in it. Really a fabulous read.

Maybe I will rate differently if I'm in a different mood. But I guess I am in that mood where I want the story to be more than just fuck fest. Yes, this one is basically fuck fest, with oh, a couple of "plot" inserted in between. I think I prefer the sequel (December).

A smutty piece of fluff. I felt like there could have been more of the story instead of using most of the space for sex scenes. Then again, I feel that the selling point were supposed to be tropes (Athlete/Academic) and it's just supposed to hit the right button if you're looking for a specific setup. The problem is, I've been reading a lot of shorter m/m works lately, and this is kind of thin even by those standards. Even when there isn't much plot, there can be atmosphere, or humor, or interesting characters. Here, there's nothing.

I enjoyed this story a lot. It focuses heavily on sex, but given the premise--sparks fly when a football star whose flight is delayed until morning meets a college professor in a hotel bar--the use of sex to show their evolving relationship works well. Definitely a fun read.
