Components the candidates submit depend on writing that is clear, consistent, and convincing. All the Scoring Rubrics are built upon those elements. This book gives many writing strategies, tips, and examples to lead candidates toward the goal of submitting work that meets the National Board Standards for accomplishment. This revision brings it up-to-date with the current, Version 3.0 National Board requirements.
Review: Successful Writing Strategies for National Board Certification (2nd Edition) by Bobbie Faulkner
This book is full of helpful advice for National Board candidates. It provides a clear overview of all four components and offers practical guidance on how to approach the writing, analysis, and reflection required throughout the process.
I’ll admit—it can feel a little overwhelming at first, but in a good way. The book helped put a lot of things into perspective and made the expectations feel more manageable. I’m planning to use several of the ideas and strategies as I work on my components this cycle.
Moving forward, I’ll be focusing specifically on Components 3 and 4, and I plan to use Bobbie Faulkner’s follow-up resources to guide that work. Overall, this was a solid, reassuring overview that helped me feel more grounded and confident about the process ahead.
Clear and concise! I appreciated the way Faulkner outlined to-do lists and emphasized the expectations for each component. I would recommend to other fellow candidates regardless of certification area.
