Lost and alone, Amethyst offers herself up to the control of the sinister Redland Academy.
Forced to work towards an impossible goal to satisfy the dreams of a madman, Amethyst must come to terms with the truth of her past and the uncertainty of her present if she’s to have any hope of a future.
As her communion with the aether grows ever stronger, her physical strength drains away to almost nothing. And the man she loves – the man she thought was dead – is alive, but can’t remember her!
Can Amethyst save the people she loves? And if she does, will it cost her everything she is?
Totally enjoyed this continuation of Amethyst 's adventures with her captivating friends, diabolical nemesis and all those in between. It's a fantasy adventure worthy of the time it sweeps you from reality and into the Aether. I hope there will be more of these chronicles
Couldn't put the books down. Believable characters that grew with the story. From kindle unlimited free to a series I will purchase and own for a future re read. Very enjoyable reading.
I've happily read all 5books in this series. Each one is stand alone with Amathist and her companions solving the given mystery, but there is also the hint that leads to the next book\ mystery.
4 stars because I smashed through this whole series with no hesitation. I am so glad that I didn’t have to wait to see what happened next! There was so much to enjoy, the plot, the varied characters and their relationships, like there really was a lot of good - BUT all 5 books suffered from a lack of editing.
Unfortunately, every typo pulled me out of the story and I would end up re-reading sentences to try and see if I was crazy. Similarly, there were continuity errors and just an overall need for editing to make everything flow properly.
Won’t be rereading due to these issues but it was obviously well-written enough that I happily made it through the whole series in a few days.
As a whole, this was an enjoyable series to read. The storyline has many twists and turns and it kept it interesting. However, and this is a note to the "publishers"- if you are going to publish someone's hard work, have the decency to hire a editor. What took away from these books was the many errors-grammatical, spelling, even bad sentences, along with duplications of parts. You do the author a large disservice and the buyer, especially as these were not part of KU, but paid for instead. I don't believe in returning books but I'm sure others may not feel the same and won't go beyond Book 1.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Aether Chronicle series. Our heroine, Amethyst, is a genius and also vulnerable when it comes to love. The stories are set in Victorian England with Lords, Ladies and such. Amethyst experiences a lot of growth as the stories progress but she is brilliant throughout. I would consider these books steampunk, romantic murder mysteries with government intrigue. I love that Amethyst's siblings have jewel names like Jade, Jasper, Ruby and Sapphire. If you are looking for love, adventure, sci-fi and mystery, this is a series for you. I highly recommend this series. I plan to check out the author's other books.
4.5 stars rounded up (sorry, the typos and name changes still annoy me). This final instalment in the series brings all the threads together and ties them in a very neat knot. There’s a lot of drama, a load of science-y stuff, a slightly unexpected mystical/timey-wimey angle, a bit less humour (not really surprising considering the drama) and through it all, Amethyst and her friends and family just getting on and saving the world. I’ve really enjoyed the ups and downs of this rollicking series and I hope the author writes more in this world.
The story is well written and as the reviews show, most people enjoyed these books. Sadly I did not, there's just something about the main female character that I found incredibly annoying and I ended up just skimming the books and then eventually gave up.
I have fell in love with the amazing characters in these books. Transported to another word full of so many possibilities. With a fantastic lead female character that is strong, intelligent and views her word and work in an amazing way.
Great ending to a great series of book series. The writing is super and keeps you wanting to keep turning the pages. Abi Barden has what it takes to write great books
