A lot happens! I'm sure the following volumes will explain it but geez is it bombshell after bombshell. I appreciate Kagami wants to go into a new direction with a heavier emphasis on everyone's past hundreds of years ago but the execution feels a bit haphazard. I also appreciate that Kagami has picked up the pace these last few volumes but maybe they could slow it down or have less constant developments.
Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the developments. Its great to see us come back to the Ancient Greece setting for Yu, Ashera, Krul, and now Noya and Mikaela. But even then we're introduced back to it to immediately get a bunch of lore drops about Yu being born from a lab over and over and Mikaela being hidden in a coffin and Noya is now here. These developments might read better in the monthly format with a month to digest, speculate, and discuss. But in a full volume its just a surge of constant info and developments.
Additionally, certain internal lore also feels like its close to breaking. So Mahiru is just now totally seeable. And Mahiru is a demon but it seems as if Noya is meant to be Mahiru's demon. So a demon has a demon? And then Ashera decides not to possess Yu and they split Yu's body? Everyone is getting enough power to get demon horns but no one's demon is possessing them? Even when demons mention they should want to?
As I previously said, this volume is definitely transitioning into a new section of the story. I don't think that's bad. But its definitely doing it in an awkward way. I'm not yet sold on the new direction even if I like its concept.
Some things are just handled a tad awkwardly. I appreciate continuing the epic battle and shitshow as it gets more personal and focused on the battle of Guren, Yu, and Mika. But also trying to turn into the new section about Yu, Mika, Ashera, Noya and everyone else who was around thousands of years ago makes it a bit messy and all over the place to me. You can tell which part Kagami is dying to write with some sections written very well. But other moments are written a bit out of character for Kagami with scenes that almost feel fanfic-ish or to please the fans like the galore of MikaYu content.
Just a bit awkwardly handled.
