aude’s husband, John, had been injured and she desperately needed some cowboys to work the ranch. She found Dillon down on his luck and gave him, and five other young men, a home and trains them. Seven years later she is set on finding brides for all of the young men. Dillon’s not interested. He was robbed of everything by Slick McCall—someone he trusted. A girl he loved has also treated him poorly. He doesn’t intend to open his heart to anyone. His plan is to stay right there on the ranch and take care of Maude and John.

Abigail has been duped by a slick-talking charmer and is now expecting a baby with no ring on her finger. Posing as a widow, she flees west, intending to start over and create a new life for herself and her unborn baby. However she arrives at Logan Crossing and discovers her money is missing—stolen. She has nothing. Maude offers her a job on the ranch, thinking this pretty young widow will be suitable for one of the boys.

Abigail eagerly helps at the ranch house, determined to make a temporary home for herself and the baby. Dillon is always ready to take her for a walk or otherwise entertain her. The baby’s birth creates a new level of attraction and intimacy between them. He tells her of how a certain Slick McCall has stolen everything and a former girlfriend hurt him, teaching Dillon to guard his heart.

Slick McCall was the man who sweet talked her into making Abby’s baby. She was prepared to tell Dillon the truth about being an unwed mother but hearing his words makes her realize she must guard her secret.

But how long can she hide the truth when she and Dillon are falling in love? Will Dillon still love her when the truth comes out? Most of all, will her newborn son ever be accepted?

Linda Ford grew up devouring books and making up stories in her head—often late at night when she couldn't sleep. But she hadn't planned to write. Instead, she dreamed of running an orphanage. In a way, that dream came true. She married, had four homemade children, adopted ten and lived (at times, endured) the dream.

Writing first took her to non-fiction human-interest articles for newspapers and eventually a non-fiction book about tuberculosis set in the 1930s and 1940s (Touched By The White Plague). But romance had always been her first love and she turned to writing love stories. She is multi-published in the CBA market.

She lives on a small ranch in Alberta, Canada, where she can see the mountains every day. She and her husband continue to enjoy their children and grandchildren.

First, this trope is worn out and should be put in the discard pile. Abigail was used by a 'slick' man and became pregnant. When her father suggested she find a place out west, to avoid the shame, Abigail knew he was right.  However, on her way, Abigail's money was stolen and she was penniless when she got off the stagecoach.  Of course, some kind soul decided to take her in and help Abigail.

Maude and John lost their son and when John had an accident (permanently impairing his legs), Maude went out and found youngsters who would learn how to ranch from her. The former cowboys wouldn't take directions from a woman.

The interior dialogue was repetitious and boring.  Maude and John are now set up to find wives for all of the youngsters (who have now grown to men), so she can keep them on her ranch. I won't be joining them. Overall score = 2.5 stars.

Could Her Past be forgiven to give her a future of love

Abby's innocence was lost to a smooth talking swindler, when she found out she was expecting a baby her father told her that going somewhere she wasn't known and starting over would be the best thing for her and her baby.
She went to work for an older couple on their ranch and began having feelings for one of the "boys" only to find out he had been swindled and lost all his possessions to the same man who was the father of Abby's baby.
How could she tell anyone the truth. She was unwed, pregnant and her babies father was such an awful man. She knew God could forgive her, but what about Maude and John would they want her staying on their ranch? How about Dillon could he still care about her knowing how he felt about the man who fathered her baby and kept it from him.
Can the truth set Abby free or destroy her chance of a future love?

Linda Ford, in her usual form, has brought us a new series that is sweet and heartwarming yet full of human frailties and wonderful characters. This is Abigail and Dillon's story and contains secrets, deception, lies, danger, heartache, hurts and romance. Abigail is unmarried and pregnant and travels west as a supposed widow. Dillon has been betrayed by a woman and vows to never fall in love. Abigail, after having all of her money stolen, ends up working on the same ranch where Dillon works. As Abigail and Dillon interact with each other feelings begin to develop but will secrets and lies sabotage their relationship? Will Abigail and her baby be safe? Will Abigail's and Dillion's relationship grow into a HEA? Be sure to read this wonderful beginning of this new series. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Abigail and Dillon?

Dillon is a sweet love story. Dillon was a cowboy on a ranch and Abigail came to live on that ranch after she met Maude, the ranch owner's wife and went home with her. There was an accident involving an overturned wagon and Maude was injured. Abigail went to the ranch and helped with cooking for the ranch hands. By the time Maude recovered sufficiently, Abigail was doing a lot of the cooking and other chores related to the ranch.

Dillon and Abigail became interested in one another and our story goes on from there. But there is one roadblock to a Happily Ever After. Abigail is expecting a baby? Is this going to cause problems with possible suitors? Read this book to find out. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in the series and other books by Linda Ford, who has become one of my favorite authors.

Dillon

Great story, Abby leaves home after causing her family shame. She meets Maud and the older woman takes her under her wing, on the way back to the ranch the horses are spooked and the wagon flips the women out. Maud has hurt her leg, Abby is worried about her baby, she doesn’t feel the baby moving, she helps the older woman into a hunter’s cabin. There is a storm brewing and they wait for one of the ranch hands to help them. Dillon comes and finds both women. He gets them home and love blooms but Abby is telling them that she is a widow. Truth is she was sweet talked into the arms of a man named Slick. The same man that stolen everything from Dillon.

What will happen to Abby and her baby if she tells about her past?

Love a good cowboy story. Back in the day, women were looked down upon if they were unwed and pregnant. Usually, the family sent them away to live somewhere else so their reputation wouldn't be harmed. Abby is in that situation. Her father asked her to find someplace new to be. Maude happens upon her at a good time when she was down and out with no money and no place to go. Circle A Ranch welcomed her in. Loved all the western stuff I read - milking the cow and doing chores, cooking in the kitchen with Sam, and having cowboys watch over the ranch. Dillon is such a good guy a woman would have to be crazy to pass him up. Abby doesn't know if they will accept her at Circle A when they all find out the truth she is hiding. Good romantic story.

Dillon and Abby

This is a sweet love story about a young single cowboy and a beautiful young pregnant woman. Abby is heavy with child and meets Maude in town and she is taking Abby to the ranch. They are involved in an accident caused by a rabbit and frightened runaway horses. Maude breakers her leg in the accident and Abby stays at the ranch to help for a while. Dillon is helping Maude and her husband, John since he is confined to a wheelchair due to a past accident. They fall for each other and have to both work through several problems. Abby goes into labor and Dillon has to help Maude with the birthing of a boy. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.

I really enjoyed this story and how it shows that people make mistakes but that it is not the end of the world. Abby finds herself an unwed mother in the 1800s which is not a good time to be one. She decided that she needed to go west where no one knows her, so she can give her child a life.

Maude and John are an amazing couple, especially Maude. She has an instinct to take in those who need a place to be part of a family. Dillon was one of those she found after John’s accident and he was still a boy and full of anger. Over the years, he let his anger go and grew into a good man.

What happens to Abby and Dillon is a bittersweet story and if I say any more, I will be giving it away. So no spoilers, you will have to read it yourself.

A Story of Forgiveness and Acceptance

This was a lovely story of forgiveness and acceptance. I've come to love Linda Ford's inspirational, historical romance novels. The characters she crafts are interesting and the plot keeps me reading. You know there's going to be that HEA, but the path to reach it is moving and usually riveting, at least for me. The faith element is strong without being too preachy and I love that. It shows me these characters are trying to live their faith rather than just speak things they've memorized.
If you enjoy faith-filled, historical romance, then I recommend you give this book a try.

Abby and Dillon 💞

I haven’t read a Linda Ford story for far too long! I love how her words just pull you in. I also appreciate how the characters are focused on the Lord.

Abby and Dillon were such a sweet couple together. I loved the very beginning when they had to pretend to be husband and wife. They were made for each other.

I have to say, I loved their gathering together to worship the Lord out on the veranda. It reminded me of last summer and our church holding outdoor services due to COVID restrictions.

Sweet, romantic, and a HEA 💝

Abigail leaves her hometown and heads to make a new life for herself. She finds herself in Logan's Crossing without much to her name and meets Maude who takes her giving her a job. An accident on the way back to the County A ranch leaves Maude injured and Abby wondering if her baby will be ok. When Dillion from the ranch shows up he's instantly weary of Abigail and isn't very trusting of her. This was such a sweet, clean romance about strangers finding love, and a little faith when they least expected or wanted it.

Maude and John Archer took in strays as as in young boys. Gives them a home and teaches them to be ranch hands. Most stay because feel safe . Maude rescues a young pregnant *widow* who is dropped off by the stagecoach with no money or place to stay. Dillon's "best friend" stole every thing from him a few years back. Everything except his boots and saddle. Abigail was taken in by Slick McCall and she ran away from home. Good read.

Dillon

Another series begins with this story. It’s refreshing to read stories that have examples of men and women relying on God’s word to ask forgiveness and seek first Him. It is unusual to find these examples that can be passed on to others and to be of assistance. Reading, praying and interpreting scripture and applying it our personal life is hard. Sometimes the situations we encounter are the ones that make sense.

Uplifting

I like how Maude and John have decided to run their lives after tragedy. It is a lovely way to bless others and maintain their place. Love the Godly focus and premises. A good story of how good can come from hardship by the love and acceptance of others. Leaves you feeling good.

I liked it because

The author drew the lines when it came to sex. That makes me very happy! The story is an old fashioned romance.
Villan, boy meets girl, troubles, and how God figures into their lives like He should with everyone's life.
They all trust in God. I love the Psalms 18! This is a good old fashioned book and i recommend it with a cup of tea or hot chocolate.

Sweet Christian book .

Hea with wonderful story. Abby keeps her faith even in terrible circumstances and overcomes.

Maude and John are a good Christian couple who follow God’s word, providing a home to the lost and needy.

Dillon is a good man who loves and cares for his family. Protective of those he loves.

I am so looking forward to the next book!

Took too long to get to where the story was going. It is a good, sweet book, with a lot of scripture references and soul searching that I love to read and note in a book. I just get bored waiting to get to the part of the story that is alwAys drawn out with "THE SECRET LIE" , drives me crazy. J👱

God bless them

What a great start to a new series in the Canadian West. I appreciate that God figured prominently in this story. Do I think it weird that Abby and Dillon were taken in by Slick McCall? (Wonderful name for a bad guy by the way). Anyway thanks for a good start on the series.

Can't beat a sweet cowboy romance!

When Abby comes to town and gets off the stagecoach she has no idea what she is going to do. Broke, alone and pregnant she has few options until Maude brings her home to the ranch. Things are complicated because Abby hasn't told her true story.

A wagon wreck brings Dillon to the rescue. You know what happens. But Abby has a secret guaranteed to come between them. A good read.

Secrets

Awesome book of a young woman, pregnant and alone; living a lie. Found by a ranch woman who has taken in a bunch of strays, she fits in until her past collides with his past and anger becomes all consuming until tendered by love.

Great read

Especially like the scripture being quoted to guide in application of God's will. Life is full of tribulation and it comforting to read a novel that points to God for your answers.

So pure and sweet

I had a really good time reading this book.
My only complaint was the repetitive thoughts about the lie. I know only a day or two had passed in the beginning but it got annoying after a while.
