In a world with giant underearth worms building Temples for humans, and automated quarantine- and anti-flight swarms of Eesian drones limiting when and how humans move.
The relative slowness of mobility has brought back raiders and pirates to the seas and the roads. Warlords are having a blast hunting the worms, raiding the temples for their powerful technology, and threatening to spread through the busiest trade routes like a plague, to reintroduce slavery and human trafficking.
Eysin, a stray from Reval gets involved with a local security guild studying the worms’ work and Eesian tech. The guild is promising to be powerful enough to help the region stand against any raiders, pirates and warlords - yet, problems with the Temples & exotic tech - and the closest people are bound to steal all their attention.

Besides some rookie mistakes (typos) and a few moments where it was a bit hard to follow, I really am freaking curious about where this story is heading. The world, the fiction, the characters - all nicely growing with the story. There is a fun (a bit familiar) teenage undertone hidden in the main character, that makes my reading so much more enjoyable.

Great read
I really enjoyed this one. Characters hooked me and the flow of the story was unique and thrilling. While a lot of stories in this genre go a bit too far on describing the novel tech setting, this one balanced the tech details against the relevant structural changes to society and local relationships. There is a kind of allegory about debt and gambles/risk buried in the plot (amongst other lessons) that is very enjoyable. I am no expert but I think this would make a great movie with great fight scenes, bars and forest vibes.
Have passed the book onto a few others with a wide range of ages and they have enjoyed it too.
Was slightly sad when I finished it and haven't felt that way about a book for a while.
