Bond of Destiny: A Demonica Novella

Rate this book
Sold into slavery mere hours after his birth to werewolf parents, Tracker spent decades in service to cruel underworlders. Then the fallen angel Harvester transferred his ownership to a human woman who gave him as much freedom as the unbreakable bond would allow. Still, thanks to his traumatic past, he’s afraid to trust, let alone feel love. But when an acquaintance shows up at his door, injured and in need of help, he finds himself longing for a connection. For someone to touch. For someone to care.

Stacey Orr has had it bad for Tracker since the day her best friend, Jillian, was forced to hold his unbreakable slave bond. At first, the fact that he’s a werewolf seemed weird to Stacey, but hey, her best friend was married to one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, so weird is definitely a matter of perspective. Stacey knows the depths of Tracker’s trauma, and she longs to help him even as he helps her, but breaking through his walls isn’t easy.

And it only gets harder when the only blood family he has, the pack that gave him away, lays claim to him… and everything he loves.

Do you know how obsessed I am with this series? No, but do you? DO YOU?! Because Ione can write 40 more books in it and I'll be desperately awaiting each new one. Not often you can say that 20 books in, but this series just hits the spot each and every single book.

This is a story I feel like I've been waiting forever for. If you've readRogue Rider and Reaver, then you already know exactly who Tracker is. And if you're anything like me, you've been desperately waiting for his HEA because to say that this man has been through hell and back (literally) is a mild understatement. His own parents sold him into slavery when he was just born. As a born werewolf, he knows nothing of his customs. As a born slave, he's known nothing but misery and still can't acclimate to life of limited freedom. Even though his slave bond was transferred to Jillian, he's still not free. And even though Jillian tries to give him everything he was missing in life, it's tough to accept that life for him.

Stacey was absolutely awesome. She's a female that owns her sexuality and doesn't feel ashamed of her history with men. She's also tough and fierce, which I loved as well. A massive snow storm causes her car to crash and her to be rescued by Tracker. A little forced proximity for the win. Tracker fights his attraction to her, and Stacey feels like Jillian has warned her off of Tracker because of his tragic past and her instability with men. I loved the way these two just clicked. Their chemistry was through the roof and the build up was delicious.

Larissa Ione never disappoints and this story just hit the spot for me. I loved the suspense, I loved the action, and I absolutely loved the romance. The cameos by some of my favorites was also fantastic. I loved getting more of Harvester. I do wish we'll get a full length novel from Ione soon because as much as I love the novellas, I can't help but yearn for more.

Whenever a book explores slavery, it touches me in a weird way. It's a sensitive subject for almost everyone and as a black woman, it always tears me apart. Tracker's story tried to devastate me!

However, it failed. The author injected so much hope and positivity into this story that there was no way that darkness could win. Tracker was left broken after decades of abuse and with his new master, Jillian, he was slowly learning what it was to have some freedom. No more abuse, no more pain. And with Stacey he was learning what it was to truly appreciate his new life. He learned what it was to not only give, but to also receive love.

I loved the way their relationship developed. It was filled with passion, compassion and understanding. While Stacey was understandably horrified by Tracker's past, her huge heart was open to showing and giving him a new lease on life. Her affection soothed him and her love healed him. I loved getting glimpses of all the new wonders Tracker was experiencing. I especially loved watching this male turn into a beast to protect his woman.

I haven't read much from this series, but after reading this, falling for these characters, and meeting Harvester and Reseph (who aren't together and are actually mated to other people, but are really compelling people I want to know), I'll be changing all of that. This series is obviously full of must-read stories!

As a mad fan of all things Demonica, I dropped everything when this book arrived on my kindle, eagerly diving back into my favourite paranormal world, and I loved this sweet, sexy, satisfying and exciting romance.

Tracker has appeared in earlier books of the series. A warg (werewolf) sold into slavery just hours after his birth, he was previously known as ‘Whine’, and was a slave to Harvester. His slave bond was then transferred to Jillian (mate of Reseph), who detests slavery, but who genuinely cares for Tracker and provided him with his first actual home, giving him as much freedom as possible, eager for him to live his own life. And while Tracker enjoys his life, marvelling at the peace that he is still adjusting to after years or torture and torment, he is still afraid to trust, and lives a mostly solitary existence.

Humans seem to have a visceral abhorrence for slavery, and whenever he talked about his experiences or his masters, the disgust and anger they felt burned right into his skin.
He’d been part of something ugly – still was part of it – and he didn’t know how to shed that. Or to make people stop being horrified by him.

Stacey is Jillian’s best friend. Formerly a police officer, she’s now working for DART (Demonic Activity Response Team), and she’s well aware of the supernatural world she lives in, and Tracker’s place in it. She’s also harboured a crush on him for years, but at Jillian’s insistence, she has kept her distance. But when she runs into trouble in the middle of a huge snowstorm, it’s Tracker that comes to her rescue, taking her back to his cabin to care for her.

Trapped together in the snow, Stacey sees it as an opportunity to get to know the gorgeous but reclusive man, and Tracker slowly starts to blossom in her presence. They talk, they cook together, she even teaches him how to dance, and their feelings for each other shine through every moment. There’s such a sweet sense of innocence about Tracker. He is naïve about so much, and it is gorgeous watching him start to come out of his shell. Stacey is right there with him every step of the way and things between them build quickly but naturally, I loved watching it all develop.

Jillian had given him room to grow, and Stacey had given him reason to.

But don’t go thinking that Tracker’s all beta-male. He may be inexperienced in some things, but he’s all fierce male, and he proves to be brave, strong, protective and infinitely sexy, and holy hot damn!

But he’s still under a slave bond, and that has certain implications. And when his old pack arrives with expectations for him that he has no desire or inclination to meet, things get dangerous for both him and for Stacey.

It’s an exciting ride, full of all of the action, snark, humor, heart and supernatural badassery that I love about this series. There are some fantastic cameos of course, and every time someone new appeared on the page, I gave a little squee of excitement, so thrilled to be seeing these characters again (Reseph’s appearance was particularly epic). But this is Tracker’s story, and he absolutely shines as a man finally finding his place and getting his happy ending.

“I love you, female. You already own my heart. Why not the rest of me.”

Fans of the series will love this book. It’s a great finish for Tracker’s story, and a wonderful glimpse back into this world that I love so much.

4.5 stars!

Tracker has been a slave his entire life because he was given away as soon as he was born. He's a werewolf shifter and his new master, Jillian is the nicest person he's ever known. She doesn't want to be his master but it can't be helped. So she and her mate have given him as much freedom as they can. He lives alone in a cabin built for him and watches over Jillian's cabin while she and her mate are away.

Stacey is Jillian's best friend so when she was in an accident on an icy road, she walked to Jillian's cabin but Tracker found her half frozen in the snow and brought her inside his cabin and warmer her up. Now they are stuck, snowed in together in his cabin and making the best of it.

Stacey is exactly what Tracker needed. He's not fast to trust people because being a slave he's been treated incredibly bad his entire life. Some of the flashbacks of his life made me cringe and I felt really bad for him. It took a little time for him to warm up to Stacey but she's so full of life so it's hard not to feel good around her.

These two are snowed in and even though the phone service goes in and out during the time they are together so they are able to talk to Jillian and let her know what's going on, Jillian is not happy that they are stuck together and let's Stacey know that Tracker is off limits to her for some reason. But that doesn't stop Stacey from kissing Tracker until he finds out that Jillian told her he was off limits. Being that Jillian is Tracker's master, he cannot go against her wishes. But Jillian gives her permission after Stacey makes her realize that she really does care about him and isn't there to play with his feelings.

Things look like they are going well between them until a couple of guys from his families pack come to talk to him and ask him for something. When he refuses to give them what they want, all hell breaks loose. I liked that we got to see Harvester again because she's changed and I really like her. I really liked how the action really notched up towards the end of this book and how it had such a great ending.

3.25-3.5 stars. Bonds of Destiny is a novella from Larissa Ione's Demonica series and is Tracker and Stacy's story. Tracker has been a slave for all of his life and the official rules deem him unable to ever be freed. He is also a werewolf, sold by his parents as a baby into slavery. He undergoes many years of torture and abuse. Then fallen angel Harvester transfers his ownership to Jillian, a human married to Reever, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Jillian is a kind owner and feels bad that she is Tracker's owner, but at least he can now have a kind master and better life. Stacy is Jillian's best friend who has been attracted to Tracker, but never acted on those feelings. That is until she gets into a wreck during a snowstorm and happens to walk to the closest house, which is Tracker's. The two of them wind up stranded together during a blizzard and they get to know each other. Tracker has never felt able to pursue any kind of relationship at all because of the rules of slavery. Still, they can't help as feeling develop between them. Fate has a way of working everything out so that they can fall in love and be together.

I have really enjoyed the books from the Demonica series, however, this wasn't one of my favorites. I liked the story. But I did feel like Tracker acted a little too innocent and childlike for much of the story for me to really get behind a romance for him. He did get stronger as the book went on though, so I liked the second half of the book a bit more than the first. Stacy was an okay character for me. I just didn't feel much of a connection to the story and the love between the couple. I did like the story though, even if I did think it felt extra short this time.

Overall, I really like like Ms. Ione's world building. This may not be my favorite book of the series, but I still enjoyed it. I was happy Tracker and Stacy got their well-deserved happy ending with each other. I look forward to more from Ms. Ione in the future!

Bond of Destiny is one of those stories where I was left conflicted about my rating. The story certainly hooked me and had me happily devouring it in no time, but there were some details in this one that I felt were a bit lacking. The reason these details felt lacking, however, is due to the fact I am not entirely up to date with the Demonica series. There are a few stories I have yet to read, and the details were linked to those books. Thus, as the fault was mine, I opted to give this a four-star rating instead of allowing those things to drag the story down.

Although I was missing some of the details, the story did give me most of them, which made it easy for me to fall into the tale. I quickly fell for the characters and was hooked on the way things developed between them. The events in this were resolved a little too easily for me, but it did not take away from how much I enjoyed the characters and the way their romance developed. There was plenty to keep me hooked, and I could not get enough of them. In fact, it was one of those stories that once I started, I had to finish this in a single sitting.

Without a doubt, fans of the Demonica series are sure to be hooked on this.

"...the strongest people were those who fell the furthest and struggled the hardest to climb out of the darkest pits."
My boy Tracker finally found his HEA 🥺 When Stacey gets injured during a snowstorm, she gets snowbound with Tracker, who has a slave bond with Stacey's best friend Jillian. Given Tracker's history, some parts of this book are very hard to read. But the happily ever after is worth the pain 🥺

Loved seeing Reseph, Thanatos, and Eidolon again. References to The Mummy and Santa Clarita Diet made my day! Two goats named Rick and Evie LOL.

Bond of Destiny
Larissa Ione

It was fun reconnecting with and meeting new characters in Larrissa’s Demonica series in her contribution to 1001 Dark Nights series of Novellas. The plot and character development is excellent and made it feel like a complete full length book instead of a 125 page Novella. There was the expected HEA but getting there was exciting and dangerous dealing with not only scary werewolfs but a few demons, fallen angels and other nightmarish creatures along the way.

The Narration by Paul Boehmer was very good and his deep voiced depictions of Tracker and the other scary weres is fabulous.

For those living under a rock who don’t know about 1001 Dark Nights, its basically a never-ending series of romance novellas designed to introduce readers to new authors they may not have read before based on the Arabian Nights tales.

Lost in a storm Stacy Orr a DART (Demonic Activity Response Team) agent is lucky enough to be saved by a certain sexy werewolf she’s always had the hots for. Unlucky for them just as things are heating up in the right direction some scary weres show up looking for him.
Sold into slavery by his Werewolf Pack leader parents right after he was born, Tracker has known nothing but cruelty and torture until his slave bond was given to his present human Mistress Jillian who has shown him kindness and respect. Then during a snowstorm, he not only saves Jillian’s sexy best friend Stacy who he’s lusted after for a long time but while she’s recovering, he’s summoned by his were pack. He knows this can’t be good and his first responsibility is keeping Stacy safe.

Be still my hopeful heart
This has all the angst topped with twice the hope
Tracker stole my heart long ago and his story just made me fall in love with romance all over again

Stacey, our not so fearless heroine, is outgoing, bold, and honest to a fault. I think for me it was those qualities blended with her compassion that made her such a strong female lead.
She knows the cliff note version of Tracker's past. Yet it does not change the way she sees him. Nor does it tamper her desire for him.
The problem is he is off-limits but the heart can be blind when it comes to rules

Tracker has only known the darker side of life. Sold into slavery as an infant, passed from one master of horrors to another until Jillian, Stacey's best friend.
The world is new to him. Trust and love are concepts he is just learning
And desire
The feelings he has for Stacey are forbidden
Slaves are not allowed to love

Trapped in a snowstorm together may just lead to them both breaking the rules
But will the consequences be more than they can pay?

All the feels with a beautifully built romance that easily draws the reader in and makes you believe
A little light banter, a little angst, and enough sexual tension to cause a sudden snowmelt
This is a novella from Ione's Demonica series. It can be read as a standalone but be forewarned after meeting some of the cast you will be left wanting more

As I recently reread the story these characters were introduced in (Rogue Rider) I loved seeing their love unfold. True it wasn't a full length story but honestly it wasn't needed as the author packed alot into it.

Tracker is enslaved to Jillian the heroine in Rogue Rider. She hates that she has to hold his chains, as it were, but new to the Supernatural ways she doesn't know what else to do. And frankly she hides from it by avoiding her home in the Colorado mountains as much as possible, even though she told the natural born werewolf he's free to make his own decisions.

Stacey is Jillian's best friend and while Jillian is gone, she ends up on her bff's land after an accident during a snow storm. Now socked in with a reticent werewolf she finds herself exactly where she's wanted to be for a long time- in a situation where the gorgeous supernatural being can't run from her.

And the simple thing of making margaritas on cold snowy night is all it takes for them to truly see each other, perhaps for the first time.

The rest of the book is them dealing with his birth pack who want to force him into a mating with someone he doesn't want and his hope for a chance at a free life.

Intense and maddening to see the internal scars this man carried for so many years yet sweet at times and engaging to watch them fall in love. I cant wait until this author starts putting out full length novels again on a regular basis.

⚡ARC REVIEW ⚡
BOND OF DESTINY BY @larissaione 🐺

This was my first Demonica novel. I had heard a lot about this series but as my TBR is literally a mile long, and I'm sure every reader can understand that, it kept getting pushed back.

Anyway, I am so lucky to have received this ARC copy from a 1001 DARK NIGHTS. I enjoyed my introduction to this amazing & exciting new world thoroughly. I literally cannot wait to start reading all the Demonica novels in order.🤩😍🤩

Tracker is an ex-slave (through he's technically still a slave on paper) who is just starting to get a taste of freedom. Tracker's life has not been an easy one and reading about the depth of the cruelty and trauma he underwent throughout his life, beginning with the horrific betrayal by his own parents when he was barely an hour old, shreds my heart. 💔💔💔

Stacey on the other hand, raised by staunch religious parents, has spent her life as an agent of the law. Now, as a DART agent she works to restore balance after the world became overrun with demon & evil souls hell-bent on revenge. 🏹🔪

Tracker and Stacey have always been attracted to one another but both held back for a multitude of reasons. Now, circumstances have finally forced them together.

It all begins with a heavy snowdrift, a secluded cabin, no electricity & no network coverage.

This story is about mending broken souls and how love prevails and overcomes all obstacles. 💙💚💙

With this one we got to see more of Tracker, trying to be his own person and having a really hard time. Stacey getting stuck at the farm with him brought some funny times, some sweet times, like their cooking together and some hot times too. I hated that even though he wanted to do things on his own, Track was very much in the slave mindset, but then again being one you whole life makes it hard not to be. The ending to this one was great! I loved that Tracker got to see people fight for him and that finally everything that he never dreamed of wanting was his.

Demonica Rocks

There is nothing better than visiting the world of Demonica created by Larissa Ione. The author who transformed demons into heroes in their own way. This story deals with Whine/Tracker the werewolf slave that was held by Harvester in the series and who’s bond was given to Jillian in the Rogue Rider book. Loved the characters and was thrilled to see Tracker get his Happily Ever After.

Tracker was sold by his werewolf family at birth into slavery. He has an unbreakable bond to Jillian, who is Stacey's best friend. Stacy has always been attracted to Tracker even though he's a werewolf. After his experiences, Tracker has a hard time trusting anyone but there is something special about Stacey that makes him want to be close to her. A short, sweet steamy read.

Bond of Destiny is jam-packed with Supernatural goodness. A love story with plenty of action, drama and a hint of humour. Although a novella, it had the depth and substance of a full-length novel.

Tracker and Stacey are part of an intricate web of characters, but the overall series didn't overshadow this couple's story. I loved the development of this pair's relationship. The Alpha male werewolf is hidden behind the bounds of being a slave. Stacey, a human who is new to the supernatural world has a hard time understanding the extent of Tracker's tie to his master.

A complex world of angels, demons and every imaginable supernatural creature in between. The Bond of Destiny novella is a part of a series, however, while reading I didn't feel lost or overwhelmed by the story. Rather, I was compelled to find out more about this world and read more immediately! The details of previous books were shared in a way that related to the plot at hand not retold in a long-winded recap, which is often the case when reading a story that falls later in a developed series.

This story was one of the best Supernatural reads I've read in quite some time. I recommend fans of this genre read Bonds of Destiny.

A novella, 19.5 in the Demonica paranormal romance series, that revolves around the friends and family of three brothers, incubus demons by birth, human in appearance (mostly), who have pulled together to make the most of the healing skills common to their species. This story revolves the friend of a human and her mate, one of the Four Horsemen.

My Take
Poor Tracker. Used and abused by his own family?! Sold into slavery? Yep. That boy is gonna have one heckuva character arc!

Ooh, snowed in! I love being snowed in! Well, provided you still have water, electricity, heat, and food . . . I know, spoiled *grin*.

It's a cute start with that blizzard trapping Stacey and her choosing to show Tracker how to cook different dishes and experience new things. We learn how attracted Tracker is to Stacey through that third person dual protagonist point-of-view as we hear all his thoughts . . . he's too terrified to actually make a move. Stacey, of course, is the other perspective, so we hear her thoughts and fears about moving too fast.

Jillian provides yet another angle to Stacey's concerns when she tells her friend that Tracker is not available. Nor is Stacey happy about slavery, which leads to all sorts of misinterpretations.

Ione does make me laugh when Stacey talks about how weird her world has grown with a werewolf slave, the Grim Reaper's daughter popping over to cook, and one of the Four Horseman as a neighbor.

Stacey's mom wasn't all that helpful when she was growing up; some of her advice is downright nasty. They're pretty religious and think Reseph is a history professor from Europe. *Snicker*

It's an opportunity for Tracker to expand his experiences, and you have to root for him. No, you really do, as Tracker relates his past and its horrors as he struggles to get past those childhood traumas and take a chance at a real life, at discovering the truth. It's a scary balance as there are some rules Tracker CAN NOT break.

Some nasty, nasty rules.

And Tracker learns that eavesdropping isn't the best way to learn.

The Story
Sold into slavery mere hours after his birth, Tracker spent decades in service to cruel underworlders.

Stacey Markham has had it bad for Tracker since the day her best friend, Jillian, was forced to hold his unbreakable slave bond.

At first, the fact that he’s a werewolf seemed weird to Stacey, but hey, her best friend was married to one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, so weird is definitely a matter of perspective. Yet Stacey knows the depths of Tracker’s trauma, and she longs to help him even as he helps her, but breaking through his walls isn’t easy.

And it only gets harder when the only blood family he has, the pack that gave him away, lays claim to him . . . and everything he loves.

The Characters
Stacey Markham used to be a sheriff's deputy and is now an agent for the Demonic Activity Response Team.

Tracker, known as Whine in Sheoul, is an enslaved werewolf and now the resident caretaker for Jillian and the animals still in residence. Rick and Evie are the two brown pygmy Nubian goats and Sam and Dean are the donkey brothers.

Jillian Cardiff is Stacey's best friend and married to one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Reseph, a.k.a. Pestilence ( Rogue Rider , 9), who taught Tracker about the BOBS (Box of Bad Shit). Jillian is also the new lessee of Tracker's slave bond.

The other Horsemen include Thanatos (Death), Ares (War), and their sister, Limos (Famine).

Harvester, a.k.a. Verrine, is the angel who transferred Tracker's bond to Jillian when she became a Heavenly angel. Reaver, a battle angel and the most powerful angel in existence, is her mate ( Reaver , 10); he's also the father of the Four Horsemen. Um, Harvester's dad is Satan. Harvester's chef had been a Ramreel demon. Suzanne, Azagoth's daughter, has a popular cooking channel on YouTube.

The Demonic Activity Response Team (DART) investigates . . .
. . . demon activity. Kynan Morgan (he's also Eidolon's brother-in-law) is in charge.

The Aegis is . . .
. . . an ages-old demon-slaying organization, a rival of DART.

Underworld General Hospital (UGH) is . . .
. . . a demon hospital run by Dr Eidolon, his brothers, and his sister, Sin (an infectious disease expert) — all Seminus demons. Tayla is Eidolon's mate ( Pleasure Unbound , 1).

Sheoul is . . .
. . . known by us as Hell. Hagfrun, a mine owner, had been one of Tracker's owners. Azagoth, a.k.a. Grim Reaper, destroyed Sheoul-gra, releasing billions of demon souls. Whole countries are being evacuated!

Tracker's Pack
Tracker's parents, of the Volgy bloodline, had been the Alphas of the pack. Hunter had been one of Tracker's brothers. Victoria, who works as a dental assistant, wants to be the Alpha of the pack. Ludwig "Lud" is the head enforcer; Jack is Ludwig's lieutenant. More packmates include Vandal, Andris, the grizzled John, Brynn, Nils, and Sienna.

Werewolves, a.k.a. wargs, come in two flavors: Pricolici are born werewolves while the Vârcolac are turned werewolves. Tracker belongs to the Neethul Slaver Guild, the malibites.

Stacey had had a feud with Gina Perini, head cheerleader and mean girl extraordinaire, in high school. Vickie had been part of Gina's pack. Old boyfriends of Stacey's include Matthew, Kevin who narrated everything in a DJ voice, and Joel.

The Cover and Title
The cover has a black background with gold pierced medallions bright at the bottom and fading out as they rise up, forming an informal border. What grabs your attention is the gradated royal blue publisher's information with Tracker's head emerging from the first "0" and a wolf howling at the moon in the second "0". The title is in a pale blue below the publisher info with the series info below it in the same pale blue. The author's name is at the bottom in a gradated gold with a demonic caduceus forming the "i" in her first name. At the very, very bottom is an info blurb in gradated gold.

The title is what holds Tracker, his "Bond of Destiny".

Bond of Destiny is the twentieth book in Larissa Ione’s Demonica series. Sold into slavery mere hours after his birth, the werewolf Tracker has spent his entire seventy years as a slave. Ever since Jillian (Rogue Rider) was given his slave bond, he’s experienced a new lease on life, but if the slavers ever found out that she was treating him humanely, they could revoke the bond and sell him to someone else. So he lives in near constant fear of losing the freedom she’s granted him. Jillian’s best friend, Stacey, has watched Tracker from afar and is deeply attracted to him, but Jillian has all but warned her away from him. When Stacey’s truck slides off the steep mountain roads in the middle of a blizzard, she barely escapes with her life. Tracker finds her injured and passed out in the snow and takes her back to his cabin to look after her. However, the storm doesn’t seem to be abating, leaving them snowed in together for several days. Fearful of trusting anyone, Tracker has always kept to himself, but living with Stacey makes him start to long for human connection and the love he’s been denied all his life. Being in such close proximity, they quickly start to fall for one another. But then Tracker’s pack comes looking for him, wanting him to save them from certain death, in spite of the fact that they’ve never done anything for him. They’re not inclined to take no for an answer and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Even if Tracker and Stacey can survive the ordeal, they’ll still have to contend with his slave bond, which forbids him from ever mating.

As a newborn, Tracker was sold by his parents to a demon slaver in exchange for being granted power over their pack. As a result, he’s spent seventy years as a slave in the Underworld, being treated abominably by his masters. When we first met Tracker, his bond was held by the fallen angel, Harvester, who has since been redeemed back into Heaven. Toward the end of Rogue Rider, Harvester transferred his slave bond to Jillian. She, of course, doesn’t believe in slavery, so she’s given him a small cabin to call his own and generally allows him the freedom to do as he chooses. However, it’s against the rules of the slaver’s guild for a human to hold a slave bond or for anyone to treat him as well as she has, so if they find out, they could forcibly take him back. Because he has major trust issues, Tracker has mostly kept to himself in his little cabin, but it’s a pretty lonely existence. He likes Jillian’s friend, Stacey, but he’s never really gotten to know her until they’re stranded together during the snowstorm. Then he genuinely starts to connect with her and crave the love he’s never known. But their romantic interlude is interrupted by his pack showing up, demanding that he help them produce an heir to his bloodline to save them from destruction. Tracker isn’t inclined to help them when they never did anything for him, but when they decide to use Stacey as a bargaining chip, he’ll do anything to save the woman he’s fallen in love with. I’ve adored Tracker since he was Harvester’s slave, and although it took a while, I’m thrilled that Larissa Ione finally wrote a story for him. He’s a total sweetheart and a rare beta-leaning hero in this series. He’s so shy when he first saves Stacey, but as they get to know one another, he gradually warms up. He still has fears, but he bravely stands up to his pack. I love that even juiced up on a Seminus demon concoction, he manages to control himself and not have sex with just any female and still be gentle and considerate with Stacey. Tracker will definitely go down as a favorite hero for me.

We first met Stacey as Jillian’s best friend, who at that time, was in local law enforcement. The two of them were like peas in a pod, growing up together, and have always had each other’s backs. After Stacey learned about all the things that go bump in the night, she decided to join DART and now handles the rare demon sightings in their small Colorado community. She’s admired Tracker from afar ever since he came to live with Jillian, but Jillian has practically called him off limits. Stacey is aware of him being a slave and of some of the things that were done to him in the past, but she doesn’t know everything until he rescues her and they’re stranded alone for several days. It takes some kindness and patience on her part, but eventually he starts to open up about about his experiences. Even still, there are many things he doesn’t dare do for fear that the slaver’s guild will find out that he’s breaking the rules and take him back. She doesn’t want that to happen, but at the same time, she abhors slavery and just wants him to be able to live his own life and make his own choices. Unfortunately the few choices he does have continue to be impinged upon when his pack comes calling, making demands, and then takes Stacey captive to twist his arm. And then there’s the slave bond that will never allow him to get mated to anyone. I loved Stacey for being so kind and gentle with Tracker and for understanding and helping him with his trust issues. She understandably gets frustrated with the slave bond, but once she comprehends the implications of it, she does what she can to make it easier on Tracker. She’s also a kick-ass fighter when she needs to be, so overall, she was a great heroine.

Given how much I liked Tracker when he appeared in other books, I’d really been looking forward to Bond of Destiny and it didn’t disappoint. Tracker and Stacy are wonderful together. He’s a sweet, tortured hero, one of my favorite kinds, while she gradually earns his trust and showers him with all the love he’s been missing. I’m a sucker for the stranded in a snowstorm and close proximity tropes, so that part of the story was a great way for them to get to know one another and start falling in love that showcased some wonderfully sweet romantic interludes. When Tracker’s pack comes for him and Stacey, it turns more suspenseful, and then the ending where they finally figure out what to do about his slave bond was chef’s kiss perfection. I love that Jillian and Reseph, along with the other Horsemen, got in on that action. Then there was Harvester, too, who still had a lot to make up to Tracker for things she’d done when he was her slave. I really like that she got to begin making amends. Given that this book is long novella/short novel length, I suppose things moved a little quickly between Tracker and Stacey, but their relationship still managed to give me all the feels I expect from a romance in spite of the rapid progression. I absolutely loved seeing Tracker finally get his much-deserved HEA, so overall, I can’t think of a single thing I’d change about the story. It’s definitely earned a spot on my keeper shelf and also as a favorite in the Demonica series for me.

I pretty much love anything by Larissa Ione.

Tracker is a werewolf sold into slavery as a child. Stacy is a human, relatively recently introduced to the supernatural world and now working as a demon hunter. They get stuck together during a snow storm and 'bond'.

Love a vulnerable MMC.

Bond of Destiny by Larissa Ione is the twentieth installment in the Demonica Series and can be read as a standalone. The Demonica series is one of Ione’s many paranormal series, Bond of Destiny is a standalone novella in that series. While I am a big supporter of reading a series in order to get the most out of it, this novella provides enough backstory that reading the previous books isn’t a must do.
Tracker is a werewolf, and has spent his whole life in the service of others, given to slavers just after he was born, he has spent all his time at the will of others. His Masters. Most of those Masters are too cruel to even mention, he has never been shown love or kindness. That changes with his new owners, Jillian and her husband, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The story really starts to take off when Stacy comes into the picture. Stacy is Jillian’s best friend and a strong woman in her own right. When Tracker rescues Stacy from a winter storm and they end up snowed into together sparks fly and the goodness begins.

Throughout this entire story, I felt so bad for Tracker and the life he has had to live. You can tell how lonely they both are and how much they both want to connect to each other; they just don’t know how to go about it. Tracker is so awkward at times and Stacy is a bulldozer in getting what she wants. Since she has decided that what she wants is Tracker, she is going to stop at nothing. Just as Tracker starts to live his life, his so-called family comes waltzing their furry behinds back in the picture, except what they want isn’t something Tracker is willing to give them. Drama insures *no spoilers* and Tracker along with the help of friends must figure out what to do.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for paranormal romance. I loved this! I thought the way Tracker slowly started coming out of hid shell was so sweet. You can really start to see him open up and become his own person as the story progresses. Stacy was funny and a good match for Tracker, but her relationship with Jillian was a little odd some times. Nothing that would deter from the book, but just a little odd. I hope to see more from the Demonica series! Bond of Destiny was funny and bitter sweet. The sexy scenes a perfect tie in for the character growth and add to the story rather than fill it in. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

So by all accounts, this should have been an enjoyable read. A werewolf with a tragic past needs a soft touch of his mate to heal his wounds and soul. A hardcore demon huntress learning to care for one person longer than her previous boy toys. Some solid world-building and dangerous stakes to the survival of both characters as danger comes from the H's past just when these two are getting close to each other. It all spelled a promising read.

And yet the audio narrator killed it for me. Just a little note Paul Boehmer as an audio narrator should really be booked for more serious high-brow stuff. The way the characters spoke and even the inner references they made was a modern, glib kind of way. There is slang and sarcasm and all that nice things that deliver to the reader the personality of the characters. And the voice of the narrator did not fit that flow at all. He drawled and prolonged his delivery. Then he elongated the pronunciation of some words. He does the narration with gusto, but it is just the wrong kind of gusto. Like someone's grandfather doing a stand-up sketch from Eddie Murphy or some other fast talking people using their speech to kind of provoke and do it with just the right timing. The emphasis the narrator put on some words, some modern flowing words that are supposed to pass you by like a speeding train and hit you with its importance on a fly-by made them feel off. Like he was not just trying to give them the right emphasis but understand this modern slang himself. At multiple points some character would 'growl' and the narrator would pronounce this as the MC g-r-o-w-e-l-e-d. He was just so into prolonging these words and pushing them out to the surface of every sentence that he even added some extra vowels to it. It was one of the few instances where the narration detracted from the story despite the respectful efforts of the narrator giving it his all. I mean this was just miscasting in this case.

All in all, for this story it would have gone a long way if they had just gone with John Solo or some other previous narrator.

This novella drops you right in the action. It does try to fill in the gaps for you as to who the people are, but I feel like the fact that I had read all of the previous books really helped.

I wished more than once that this was a full-length novel. So we could really get into Tracker putting his past behind him. As is, the conversations about the slaver guild and their destruction felt like a throwaway. I wanted to see them burn on the page for what they did. (Just me?)

This book, like all Ione’s work, has very explicit sex, which is one of the many reasons, I read her work, but I have a gripe. They do it ON a hay bail. As a person with hay fever, the moment that happened, I broke out in hives, in solidarity with all the naked body parts touching the hay. NO! STOP! Go inside and immediately shower.

For those of you who are not averse to hay bail sex, this is a fast read and a nice jump back into the world. Here is hoping there is a full-length in the works. -Sky

—————————————————————————

Heh. “Full-length.” Heh.

Larissa Ione can write a badass woman falling for an alpha like no one else. Her books are always steamy and explicit as hell and Bond of Destiny is no different.

Though this is a novella, it was packed with action and well-paced. I agree with Sky that a hay bail is not sexy, just pokey-- and not in a good way. I also agree that some moments happened quickly and I would have loved to see them develop more if this was a full-length (heh) story.

I don’t see any Larissa Ione books in the works, so alas, we may have a long wait ahead of us. If anyone hears any news! LET US KNOW! Meanwhile, I’ll just sit here, sighing, and looking forlornly out a window. -Ford

I really enjoy this story, so much I want now to read the whole series, Tracker and Stacey are great characters, I loved the world-building and the different things the characters go through, the emotions and the plot were quite interesting. The way the author wrote it had great pacing and made it very enjoyable.

Series: Demonica #20
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Tracker has spent his whole life as a slave. When his ownership is transferred to Jillian everything changes for him though. She gives him as much freedom as his contract allows and tries to make him happy, but he doesn’t experience true happiness until Stacy Orr gets stranded in his cabin.

Tracker has been a minor background character in a couple books, first with Harvester and then with Jillian and Reseph. Tracker wants his freedom but also knows he can never have it. He has wanted Stacy for a very long time but it isn’t until she is stranded by a blizzard that he actually admits it or acts on it. I loved seeing Stacy break through Tracker’s barriers and get him to live a little.

Stacy is Jillian’s best friend and has had the hots for tracker from the beginning. When she realizes how little of life he experiences she goes out of her way to push new experiences on him, like cooking and movies. She never pushes Tracker to discuss his past, even when she asks questions about it she lets him reveal as little as he is willing, which is perfect for his situation. I also liked that Stacy wasn’t a pushover. When she was in danger, she tried to fight back. She is a DART member and a previous law enforcement officer so she knows how to take care of herself.

Overall, I am glad we finally got to see Tracker find happiness. This was a fast paced romance with a lot of action towards the end, which I enjoyed.

Trigger warnings: slavery, torture, PTSD, kidnapping

4.5 stars

After the absolute *STRESS* of Reaper (aka: the Demonica novel before this one), this little shifter romance was such a wonderful reprieve.

I've been wondering how things ended up for poor Tracker since we last saw him (properly) in Rogue Rider, and the poor guy was still struggling with his newfound freedom - or the closest thing to freedom a slave can experience.

I am a sucker for forced proximity as a trope, so the snowed-in romance between Tracker and Stacey (Jillian's cop friend) was really nice. I enjoyed their easy chemistry and Tracker's growth under Stacey's positive influence. Their little at-home dates of cooking food from Suzanne's cookbook or teaching Tracker how to dance were so wholesome.

The romance aspects were nice as well, and the conflict with Tracker's pack (which absolutely turned my stomach at one point) and the constant threat of the slavers made for some good tension.

But the way everything worked out was excellent, and I couldn't be more pleased.

It was also really nice to see Eidolon, Harvester, Reseph, Jillian, and Than. I love these mini reunions and just how all of these characters have this found-family/blended family thing going on.

In summary: easily one of the stronger novellas in the series. But now I'm all out of Demonica books! *le sob*

Oh well. Definitely looking forward to more in this universe from Larissa in the near future!!

4 ⭐'s
This was my first book by this author. I love these 1001 Dark Nights stories because they provide a glimpse into the author's talent if you haven't read them before. Needless to say, if this is any indication of the quality of the rest of the series, then I am ready and willing to dive in from the beginning.
Tracker is sold into slavery immediately after birth by his werewolf parents. He spends decades enduring cruel and unusual treatment by creatures in the underworld. Then a fallen angel named Harvester frees him only to put him into an unbreakable bond with a human woman who is already married. Her best friend, Stacey, has always had a thing for Tracker.
She is in an accident while driving in the snow and after Tracker finds her, he takes her to his cabin to care for her. There he begins to truly experience what living a life worth living feels like.
I don't want to give a lot away but this book checked the majority of my boxes. There was a paranormal romance with angst, action, suspense, chemistry, and a beautiful, well crafted story. I will say I think I would have loved it a bit more if I had read more books from this world but overall, it was time well spent.

OK, it’s been a minute since I read a Demonica novel so I will admit to not remembering *anything* about the characters in this book. It is closely linked to the horsemen of the apocalypse but also has guest stars from UG. Dribs and drabs came back to me along with way, but I think if you have a general handle on paranormal romance, you can dive in here with no backstory.

Stacey is on her way back in a terrible snowstorm when she wrecks near her friend’s house. Said house is being taken care of by Tracker, a werewolf with a slave bond to her friend (long story). When he spots her, half-dead and headed through miles of snow, he jumps into action and revives her. These two apparently had a bit of a crush on one another which makes it less creepy when Stacey wakes up in his bed without clothes. While I admit to not enjoying the whole “slave” angle here, it was a good sizzle and payoff, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing how it will end up.

Surprise - it ends happily because all these stories do. It even gives little glimpses of where their future could be headed in this new life together. All in all these books are quick and fun without the needed commitment of the entire series, so I’ll keep gobbling them up.

Listened to the audio version due to blindness. It's always a bit odd hearing a male voice read these type of stories. Not that Paul Boehmer did a bad job. I do think women often do better in 3rd person narration, tho. Men feel more natural when reading a male characters 1st person POV.

This didn't take much away from the book overall because Larissa Ione did another fantastic piece of work. I have not found a book or novella by her I did not enjoy. I started w/ Lords of Deliverance mini-series w/ in her Demonica world. Then I went back to the start. I've listened to everything in chronological order thru "Z". Then I skipped ahead to this.

I didn't think much of Tracker before "Rogue Rider". After, I was interested in hearing a story for him. That interest was heighted when Harvester said her goodbye.

Stacey was an obvious choice for him, & a good one. I really like how she was written as an ass kicker.

Stacey & Tracker's relationship is different from most of the other couples in this world. In most of Ione's stories, the main subjects have really only just met. This time there was an existing attraction simmering that neither had been able to act on.

A lingering questione I have is about Jillian. I understood the slave bond extended her life to match Tracker. Now that he's free, will she have a normal life again? What does that mean for Resif?

I give it 4/5 stars. It doesn't quite beat out "Reaver" as my favorite title, but it comes pretty close.

I hope Ione uses more werewolves in the future. I like her version best. The beast form is not a normal wolf w/ it's own personality separate f4om the person.
