Waking up in hospital with no recollection of why I'm there, I’m met with faces I don’t recognise and a black hole where my memory should be.
After recovering and spending time with these five amazing guys, I realise I have everything I need – even without my memories.
Rocky is full of energy but can be a handful.
Mercer thinks he is tough, but I can see through his act.
Rory is generous but has an attitude.
Maximus doesn’t talk but he doesn’t need to.
Levi may be cautious, but he is clearly the protector of the group.
My boys decided to call me JD after they found me naked and washed up on a beach in the middle of winter.
Who am I?
Where did I come from?
What happened to me?
I should want the answers to my questions, but being with them feels like home. Finding out who I am is low on my priority list when I feel like I can breathe for the first time in my life...
A life I can no longer remember.

The teen in me likes ya books. And this book is ya for sure. But the grown up that I am couldn't get into the story. So this is a dnf for me at 24 %.
I found other things to do, while I wanted to read and it took me a long time to get to 24%, all signs that this book is not for me.

4.5⭐rounding up because I really loved several aspects of it and the story and characters hooked me throughout

Book 1 in contemporary RH, slow burn and slow build, more YA (at least in this book), with insta-connection between the FMC and the guys, from friends to more, while still having a build to the relationships between each other and as a group. The main characters are all 17/18 and high school seniors. The Hs are 'brothers' by bond, not blood relation; many have their own past traumas. They discover the FMC on the beach severely beaten, and she wakes with no memory of who she is or how she wound up where they found her. And while she's without her memories, she feels drawn to these five guys and feels safe with them. 🥰

"... being around you all makes me feel safe, like everything will be okay."

And while on the surface it's that insta-connection for inexplicable reasons, this book takes it further to establish rooted connections that build over the story. One of my favorite connection builds is with Maximus, who is selective mute and their connection growth gave me all the feels especially when he shares his (music) playlist with her. 🎧🎶🥺💙

"I could list a million reasons why each is so special to me. We are working through figuring out if I feel this way because they saved me, and it is possible I have attached myself to them, but the sexual tension is hard to resist."

I don't really read YA but I loved this book. As of this review update, I've now read Book 2 and it's even better, still pretty YA (what's on page isn't overly explicit), the story totally gripped me throughout, and I just love these characters. 💕

"It's weird, I feel like I have known the guys for a long time. Like an old comfy sweater."

"She has this way of just drawing us out, like she's a reflection of what we need..."

The FMC connects with each guy in their own unique, 'perfect fit' way. I'm loving seeing how they come together as well as each H having his own stuff to work through but finding themselves wanting more of themselves, of their life, and with her. I really liked how there were explicit discussions about being exclusive to the group and the need for open communication and trust. It fit with their "friends to more" relationship growth, and it had a very natural feel. They weren't free of communication missteps, but those were addressed head-on and resolved fairly quickly.

There is some mean girl drama, but nothing too extreme or dragged out. There is a touch of OW drama that is just misunderstanding plus communication fail but it's resolved quickly (no, there is no cheating). I'm really sensitive to OW angst, like even when I know it's irrational and there's no reasonable expectation of fidelity at that point in the story, and for me, here, because it was resolved quickly and the communication otherwise was strong (not having unnecessary extra drama cause characters don't talk). So if you were worried about potential OW, I really don't think it's as prevalent as other reviews made it out to be.

While the story doesn't specify its geographical location, I think it's Australia -- the author is Australian and there's UK/AU spelling and some Aussie terms for things like "fairy floss" (I think of this like cotton candy in the US) or "form" (I think this is the equivalent of high school homeroom in the US). I wouldn't normally comment on this in my review, but I saw some other reviews mention/question this. For me, it did not disrupt my reading experience at all. I was able to visualize everything and never found myself pulled out of the story due to tripping over an unfamiliar word. I think the more I read by British and Australian authors, the more I get used to it, but also there's context clues. If this sort of thing bothers you, I'm not sure what to say other than you're likely missing out on some amazing stories.

Book 1 does end on a cliffhanger but it's a manageable one IMO - you're left wanting more especially with so much mystery left to uncover. Book 2 "Girl Like Me" just released and completes the duet with HFN ending.

Just wow!! Boys like you is a reverse harem but its much more multi-layed than that. That is what keeps you on your toes. The boys - Levi, Mercer, Rocky, Rory and Maximus are already a close unit of friends from the beginning of this book. Having been in each others lives they have lived through all of their complicated, abusive........etc families together. We only find out little bits from each of the guys backstories gradually. With the mix of JD there relationship together starts to include her. Theres a genuine connection and protectiveness towards her. Her backstory isnt truly uncovered until the last chapter and my jaw dropped!!! A knockout cliffhanger.

I loved the dynamic between JD and the guys. It was sweet, caring and funny. The guys just made me melt. They were endearing even with everything theyve been through. Its one hell of a read even though i thought this book was a standalone. I cant wait for the next book

2/5 ⭐️ • 0/5 🔥

I have countless high school reverse harems, but this one fell short for me.

Reverse harems are generally an adult genre, so that is what I expected. Unfortunately the storyline and writing was too immature even for YA category in my opinion. It’s targeted age group is probably more 15-17 year olds. It is mostly about a group of troubled guys navigating dating the same girl that they essentially know nothing about. No steam, just day-to-day life with little happening.

While there was a few hints/red flags, the cliffhanger still felt forced and thrown from left field.

Im giving this a 2 star because I think it would probably do well for a teen audience (15-17yr olds) but I’m unsure that the reverse harem aspect of it would hit the mark with that age group either. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain unless you’ve read it.

RH isn’t normally my think but Jaye does the most amazing job with her RH romances! This story is simply beautiful!

From the moment “the boys” find JD you can feel their bond! The boys themselves are already tight knit and though some worries arise when JD first arrives those fears are quelled quickly with how well she adjusts to each of them!

I love how mature this group is and how they are a unit! Is it picture perfect? No but they find a way! What they didn’t count on is the truth finding them!

This is a cliff hanger and it’s a nail biting one! The ending will shock you but this book is worth it!

I read this book, and will likely finish the duet, because an author I highly respect, Siobhan Davies, reviewed as being a good read... In more words of course.

It's not that I didn't LIKE the book...I did... For the most part...
It's just that something just didn't fit...
I'm not sure what it is.

There were some cool parts but, omg I am stressing out.
It's so rare that my interests don't like up with Siobhans...

I guess it just felt like it took way more than half the book to progress into their relationships...

maybe that isn't it. Idk.

I have read many YA and NA books, with large harem and for the most part they are captivating.. They grab your attn and don't let go.. But, this one just... Didnt.

I am going to finish it because I want to see what happens to Rory but, please, don't take my review to heart..

The book has many positive reviews and the story has a few cute scenes...

Read it, and share.YOUR.thoughts.with me....

Anyway... Be back soon!

This was a very calming read! I enjoyed that the boys are not mean at all and its just a unique setting. The story, the characters, their interaction is quite pleasant. It made it very easy to read in a flow. So JD is unaware about her identity but she feels closer to the boys who saved her. She seems as someone who has a backbone and is willing to fight. I also like the boys a lot in this book. We get a little bit of each of them. They are a strong unit and care for each other. The relationship dynamic was easy to move into because they all are straightforward. There are a lot of questions that we do not have answers to yet. And I am excited and nervous to see where this goes from here now!

YES!! This book had a little bit of everything. The characters felt so real and were so easy to connect with. All the guys are so different, and stand out in their own way, and I loved JD. This book gives you all the feels. You are constantly wondering what happened to JD, and rooting for her and the guys and that cliffhanger!!!....I don’t even feel bad that I yelled at Jaye for leaving us hanging like that. I need book two now!!

DNF at like 0,03%

I mean I couln’t get past the first few pages. Why the 2 star review then, you ask? Shouldn’t it be a 0 or 1 star review? Let me explain myself.

I couldn’t get past the first few pages of this book because it reads like someone’s first-ever-draft of their first-ever-book. It basically reads like a 15 year old (with talent, granted) has written it, and although the grammar isn’t atrocious, every sentence so far has kind of been a cliché. I can tell that the author has potential, but they should have probably written and read more, and taken some writing courses before publishing. The way things are described just aren’t…. Natural-sounding, for lack of a better explanation. The sequences of events don’t flow correctly, they just seem like chopped up bits that have been kind of stacked together bc they technically follow after each other, but they don’t flow together, ya get me?

The characters are another fail in my book. I haven’t gotten very far but I can honestly already tell that they’ve basically been copied from other slow-burn books in this (rh) genre. This author is not the only one guilty of this, but the cliché fact that they’re ”brothers, bot by blood but by bond” (yes, the author ACTUALLY wrote that), that they’ve all been magically offered scholarships to some expensive school by one of the guys parents is just so- I mean, conveniently childish that I just have to laugh. Things should NOT happen just because of the plot, they should be a natural part of it and BELIEVABLE.

Anyways, can’t say much more bc I didn’t get past page 9, but the reason I didn’t mark it 1 (or 0) stars is bc I can tell that the author has potential. It just seems like they have to live, read and write more before they’ll be able to write anything original (that actually sounds like a bpok that would be published).

Written more for a younger audience

Honestly for me this was a two star read. Not a lot of character depth, mostly high school kids trying to find their way into a multi person relationship. No steam, just day to day bs filler and honestly the ending really didn’t make sense. And not from the “oh we need to leave you on a cliffhanger” it just didn’t make sense how one of the guys was convicted.I think the problem is that I love RH and feel like RH is an adult themed genre that I should’ve taken note the target audience was 16-18…. And it feels like it was written by someone of that age group.

I don’t understand where this book is supposed to take place? Is it Europe? It was never really clarified, but the verbiage for pharmacist was “chemist”, when talking about bathrooms they call it a “toilet block”, or calling storage under a bed a closet…. It might be a different verbiage I can get with, but it just comes off as odd especially calling something a closet under the bed.

This was not the best and most well thought out book.

I really enjoyed the mystery this story had. The guys had depth to each one of them. This was a slow burn with some romance. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next book.

Finally getting around to reading this. I should have done it way sooner. Super sweet RH book. The guys in this one will have you swooning with everything they do. If you need a break from Bully RH then this book is definitely a great series for that break.

Hear me out....

This book is alright. The male characters aren't male Mary Sues who are hot, sexy, and perfect. They've had effed up childhoods and they're still suffering from the effects. Okay so that's good, right? Well yeah, it is. We love a group of boys who have complex backgrounds. But for some reason, it just felt flat for me. There's no "wow" factor, I ain't sure if reading too much fantasy rh books is pushing me to be a criticizer of this book. But that's what I feel.

The main character? I like how she voices her opinion and she's not the typical meek girl who has amnesia. She comes off as a little strong and clingy (or needy). But hey, she had a traumatic event. Bruises, cracked ribs, panic attacks (u name it). She just.. didn't swoon me. (Or maybe realistic fic just isn't for me??) Idk. Edit: I figured it out now !! She doesn't have a fricking filter, and not in a good way (dunno if not having a filter can be a good thing) but she says the most inapproperiate things at the worst of times. It could just be me talking and my personality clashing with mc's but god darn. It's giving me second-hand embarrassment.

Throughout the book, I'm in a rollercoaster of snickering and cringing O_o

Edit 2: I know I said the guys weren't giving, but I think Rory has me in a loop.

Seems you’re not so different from your father after all,” she drawls.
“They do say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I wonder when my pill popping will start.” She sucks in a deep breath.

-------------

“Young man—”
“Don’t even talk to me,” I seethe. “If you’re here, that means you probably have a wife and kids, so unless you want me to figure out who you are and tell your wife, I suggest you fork out for a half-decent hotel to screw my mother.”
“You’re such a brat,” my mum snaps.
“Yeah, well go have a good hard look in the mirror, Mother, before you judge me.”

Cliffhanger

Oh wow what a story so far, gotta love how the FMC is found with no memory of herself, who she is and how she got to the beach where she was found.

5 cute boys are the ones to find her and have devoted their lives protecting her and loving her while she is coping with not having any clues as to who she is.

This story has a lot of triggers, the boys all have some kind of past and came together from living together earlier in a group home. They see them selves as brothers even though not by blood. They have a bond and live for each other, with the added bonus of their new addiction Jane doe aka jd.

I love the plot it’s different, unique and sweet. JD you can’t help but feel for her and want her to have a happy end to all this trauma and hopefully once she finds out the truth she can have her ever after with the 5 boys.

What’s scary is one of those boys may have been from her past, and with that cliffhanger it’s left with a lot of unanswered questions.

It’s a huge must read from me, it’s a sweet story, 6 people come together with all kinds of traumatic backgrounds, some worse than others.
All they want is to be loved and to be free. If anybody deserves happiness it’s definitely this 6 😍

I Need More!!

Wow. This book had me hooked from page one. Just the thought of the main character losing her memory was so intriguing.
JD is so very strong. With the little bits that she gets from her fish backs, you can tell that she’s been through so much. I absolutely love the relationship that she forms with each of the guys, especially Maximus.
Each one of the guys helps her I so many ways, be it being there for her when she has her nightmares to making her laugh when she’s anxious.
I would have to say my 2 favorite guys are Maximus and Rocky. Maximus is so shy and doesn’t talk to anyone but his friends. Rocky is such a jokester that it’s cute.
This book hints at RH but there isn’t actually any sexual activity. But honestly, that didn’t bother me. I was just so into finding out who JD is and where her relationships with the guys were going to go.
Boys Like You ended in such a major cliffhanger. I’m confused on what she actually remembered about her past and what she needed to do to keep the guys safe. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

She doesn't know who she is, what's happened and why five boys who are complete strangers to her feel like home.

Will she wake up one day and remember everything?

This book greatly appealed to me from the cover design to the blurb.

I wasn't sure what to expect and I like that in a book. It's not paint by numbers it's messy and unconventional but it works.

The characters all remain rather mysterious with little snippets dropped in here and there. It's definitely a slowburn read this series.

There's an innocence to this book which is quite refreshing. It's not dependant upon saucy scenes but the actual storyline.

I enjoyed reading this and meeting everyone, but now I want to know more of their history and really get to the nitty gritty of everything.

Wow this book hit me hard. I could not put this down at any point without needing to dive straight back in.
The characters in this book are all so complex and when the guys find JD naked and battered on the beach, things grow from there. We see each guy open up about themselves as they grow closer to JD in some sweet and hot ways. This book is a slow burn reverse harem book and was such a pleasure to read. I felt everything that JD goes through while her feelings grow for each of the boys and that ending nearly killed me!! I was totally not expecting that what a cliffhanger wowzer!!
I really need to know what's going to happen next.

Fantastic

I really enjoyed this book, it moves at such a fast pace with lots of twists I couldn’t put it down until the very last word.
It’s well written with such detail and emotion. Love JD and her character’s inner monologue really makes this book. Then there’s the guys, all hot AF and different in so many ways but are a family - a solid group of brothers. I love their understanding and protectiveness
I loved the most was all of the characters inner traumas or conditions such as ADHD - you rarely see this detail and it really resonated with me.
Overall a fantastic book, can’t wait to see what happens next

What a cliffhanger! When I started this book I thought it was a stand-alone but thankfully it is not. The ending leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book so hopefully it will be out soon.

The character development in this book is amazing. I fell in love with JD and all of the guys. The guys all have traumatic pasts but are protective and care so deeply for JD. typically I like my books with a lot more steam but I didn’t feel like I was missing that in this book because there was just so much I loved about this story. I need more!

Needed this story in my life!

When a reverse harem book is done right, it is so we'll structured and you can feel the emotions equally among the characters. You can feel JD's love for the guys progress and how she feels for them all equally. I cannot say how amazing this story is and I need more ASAP. Fair warning, this book is book one and ends on an intense cliffhanger. I will be a hot mess until I can find out what happens next. This book deserves more than five stars and I absolutely devoured this book. This book is a must read immediately!

This story had really good ideas but it just didn’t come through. The writing style was very weak and full of errors. And the story was just overall very immature. For how much it wasn’t about sex, there was a lot of sexual stuff talked about it which made it sound like a 12 year old boys mindset. The plot twist at the end also didn’t make sense. How can she go and Rory just go free? And all the adults and people of authority were very unprofessional. I’ll probably read the next one to give it another chance but if it’s like this one I’ll be disappointed.

It was ok

I liked the story line however it was underdeveloped to me. I understand where it is trying to go so I will continue to read it but it requires you to want to read it the book doesn’t draw you in and hold your focus. It has good parts but I am ready for the characters to grow it gets very redundant and at times I was wondering what was going on and why were there so many words when nothing actually happened. All in all a decent read and it’s a good space holding book.

Oh cliffhangers, how I loathe thee....

...but its so damn good.
This was one of those quick paced, easy to read, well thought out, excellently written stories. That you just can't put down. I should have known when I got to 75% on my kindle that there was going to be a second and that nothing would be wrapped in a neat bow. I can't wait for January... Its just too long, but alas, I'm going to make a note to come back to this one because I have to know what happens to JD and all her new manpanions. Oh Ms.Pratt, how you tease us!!!!

So my big issue with this book is that the relationships between the heroine and heroes just seems so forced and doesn't really make sense. The FMC complete dependence on the guys and whole "they stop me from being anxious" is just taken way too far and goes into the realm of disbelief, both in how often it happens and in the situations it's used in. And it happened often enough (so so often, I really can't overstate that, pun intended) that it was very distracting and led to me just not enjoying the book.

The plot was actually okay for a book with Insta love. I did enjoy this book, enough that I read the second one. I think that the personalities in books like these are never developed enough, reverse harem is a trope that is not always done properly, but in this book, the personalities were well-developed enough that I could differ who was who and had a favourite (take a wild guess… my adhd baby), and also waited for issues to be solved and to find out things in their relationships (not to say any names but… we all know who I’m talking about). But it just wasn’t that good?

Boys like you

4+ stars. I picked up this book thinking that it was a standalone, imagine my surprise with this cliffhanger. The story is good, the way they all are just wrapped up? Not this quick. Rory is playing as far as I am concerned you don't let a supposed ex sleep in your hotel room, you're rich get the thot her own room. She knows what her real family is now, still she made promises.

It was going so well but then...the dreaded time jump😩grrr! So irritating! We miss all of the yummy relationship development and their first kisses apart from Maximus. It's like the author got bored near the end and wanted to wrap it up. This could have been soo amazing if the characters and the relationships were more fleshed out. Sigh it was still enjoyable I might read the second when it comes out.

OMG SO GOOD!

First, I have to start off saying that as much as I love some strong angst, sometimes, I need to take a break and read something a little slower and sweet. This story was just that. I love all these broken teens coming to together to protect one another while they grow feelings for each other. I love all the guys and what we know of JD so far. I did not expect that ending and I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book!
