For some, Paralysis never visits. Others simply experience the pain of the creature's pressure on their chest just once in their lifetime, laughing it off the next day as they tell the tale to their coworkers. But, for the unlucky few, the creature makes a habit of visiting daily. Placing its blackened talon against the flesh of the forehead, the creature invades the mind, pushing deeper and deeper to extract the fears that have laid dormant since childhood. These nightmares now run rampant among the pages of this book. Battling mythological monsters, insomnia and personal demons, this collection of short stories explores the inner workings of the mind, from dreams and nightmares to anxiety and depression to show all aspects of horror.
So this was this weeks buddy read with my lovely Kirsty
Firstly why have you not been pushing this out there? This had me from the very start i was gripped by the soul, it felt like I was being invasive of your thought & feelings 😭 this got me in ways other books never have.
I have suffered with sleep paralysis myself and some of these stories did resonate with me more than others. The feeling of being trapped in a dream and knowing it’s a dream but you can’t escape…oh a lot of parts gave me goosebumps!
Artie!! This was so eloquently done! Your talent for writing is just unreal. You made me feel sad, scared & just all around emotional 😭 it was eerie, at times folky but most of all raw 🥲
Please shout this from the roof tops because it deserves it. You are incredible at putting emotion into your story telling. I just want to give you a big hug after that 🤎
This is available on KU but it’s £5 to purchase a copy on zon so I would highly encourage the purchase 😌
This book made me feel. I think this is a must read for anyone who suffers sleep paralysis, anxiety, panic disorder. We are not alone.
This book is raw with nothing held back from the reader. I loved how this was narrated mostly from an internal thought perspective. Some stories read as folk horror, others read as a fever dream but through it all was an undertone of sadness.
This book gave me so many emotions and I resonated with it strongly! One of my favourite reads this year.
1.5 I did this as a buddy read with two other ladies who also live/deal with sleep paralysis and we have all said we can write something better. this book has nothing horror about it. it started off ok but soon lost all of that 😬
I read this in one sitting, I absolutely adored it!
A great collection of stories about sleep paralysis and nightmares/night terrors. Some of the stories in particular really stuck in my head and had me wanting more of that story
