Rate this book
Have you ever had the feeling your creative life isn’t working? That no matter how hard you try, you worry you’re not good enough?

What if your self-doubt and fear could be transformed to joy and confidence? Can you imagine what your creative life might look like then?

Mindset coach and author Kate Johnston wants to help you release the negative thoughts holding you back so your life can shift in marvelous ways. After giving up on writing and filling that hole with other interests, Kate was still unfulfilled. Her creative comeback from rock-bottom was self-motivated and based on her newfound belief that to make any kind of change in our external lives we have to start inside.

Drawing from her personal well of insight and experiences, Kate shows you how to tap into your own forces of self-belief, imagination, and inner strength so you can build the creative life of your dreams. Positively Creative serves as a source of encouragement, light, and direction as you forge ahead with your creative journey.

If there's one thing I've learned in my creative journey thus far, it's that mindset is just as pivotal to personal writing success as knowledge, skill, and experience. In fact, for many writers, I suspect that an unhealthy creative mindset is the biggest roadblock in their journey toward living a writing life that brings them incredible joy and fulfillment.

That's why I love Positively Creative. This guide may be on the shorter side but it packs a powerful punch, providing creatives with actionable and empowering advice designed to help them shed negative internal narratives, find confidence in their creative ability, and get fired up to achieve their biggest and boldest of dreams.

Positively Creative takes a broad, welcoming approach to creative self-development. If you're of a practical mind, then you'll find science-based approaches to improving your mindset. If you often take a more spiritual bent to creative work and self-improvement, then you'll love some of the more high-vibe, new-age concepts this book explores.

With a little bit of everything for everyone, I highly recommend this guide as a perfect primer for any creative looking to ground themselves in positivity and power. It's a thinker and a game-changer, and I'm so glad I read it.

No matter where we are in our writing journey (or journey in any creative field), discouraging thoughts and self-doubt can sabotage our creativity. In Positively Creative, story coach Kate Johnston offers useful tools--some physical, some emotional, some spiritual--to help us establish and maintain a healthy mindset, one that will shift our repetitive thoughts of fear and negativity to those of self-encouragement and positivity. The end result is more creative productivity.

As always, Johnston's prose is smooth and relatable and her advice encouraging. All creatives will find something of themselves within the pages and will no doubt return to its supportive guidance often. Johnston has also created a set of Positively Creative Affirmation Cards for those seeking further inspiration.

It inspired me, drew me in, all while being easy to read and to understand. I felt a shift while reading it. I sat down the other day and read 100 pages as I kept wanting more. You go through the creative journey explaining roadblocks and how to overcome them, right down to every detail. “We can still move forward on our paths even when the odds are stacked against us.” You show the reader that anything is possible with a positive mindset and show them how powerful the mind really is. You encourage the reader to “trust the process" while giving them building blocks to move forward. Readers will find a deep connection with you as you open up and share your stories. A beautiful inspiration.

Kate Johnston's work is a treasure trove for creatives of all types as well as anyone who wants to let go of limiting habits and beliefs, live more richly in the present, and accomplish what may have seemed out of reach. I also find the affirmation cards to be a simple, powerful tool that provides a quick reference when I need to shift my thinking (change my energy) in order to help me remain or get back on track with my writing projects. Whether you are 18 or 80 "Positively Creative" is a valuable resource to keep close at hand and refer to time and time again for practical guidance and inspiration.

I loved Kate Johnston's approach to positive mindset and creativity in her book!

While we hear these words and concepts all around us, what Kate does is put everything in a very down-to-earth, practical and familiar context!

She's not telling us what we 'should' do, but rather what she did, what she found useful in keeping her creative focus, while also 'doing the laundry' or 'walking the dog'. I resonated with all situations she talks about in the book.

An amazing and practical read on finding balance between creative work and pretty much everything else, on creating healthy habits and a positive, creative mindset!
