“I’ll wait for you.”
“You’ll have to wait a lifetime—”
“I’d wait two.”

Emberlith (Ember) Huang is given no time to grieve when one of her childhood friends is suddenly killed. Still shaken by tragedy, she finds herself swept up in a violently spreading fire, a turbulent natural disaster. But what if… it isn't so natural?

Ember’s construct of reality shatters in an instant, taking everything she believed with it. The simple world she enjoyed was merely a mask, concealing a traumatic past of war, loss, and entanglement. Her normal college life is flipped upside down as she runs for her life and fights for survival.

Forced to learn things about her hidden past and the truths of the system she lives in, Ember finds herself intertwined in a journey that offers no path of return. She could have never imagined that everything she knew about herself and her family was shrouded in secrets. She could have never known how much her life would change, and how much responsibility would fall upon her.

Will Ember succeed in bringing harmony back to her country? And at what cost?

OMG! This is an amazing, heart-wrenching romance disguised as an action saga! When I read the first few chapters, I thought it was just a story of a strong female hero with a special power and mysterious bloodline. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a badass girl warrior with a strong personality, but this book is more than that! It gives you so many romantic, touching moments that make me believe in true love again. Swoon! Will and Chris are both SO HOT and I am in love with them! I need a BF like them ASAP! I also love the romantic arc between Pierce and Skylar; it’s such a heartfelt relationship between two beautiful women. The ending is so satisfying but so surprising!!!

I WAS HOOKED! I literally couldn’t stop reading!! I ran into this book since it’s a YA action new release and I have KindleUnlimited. I started reading it, not expecting much. The first chapter kind of tricked me with its peaceful setting and sweet moments. But then things started picking up very quickly, one thing happened after another, getting more and more interesting especially after chapter 5. Actions and mysteries leave you suspended, making you eager to know what happened in the past, and it keeps you wondering what’s going to happen next. You become very engaged with all the characters. I couldn’t put my Kindle down, and three days later, boy, I realized I binged through the entire book. I STRONGLY recommend this book if you like action, drama, and romance! SO GOOD. I’m literally ordering a paperback right now to read it again.

🚨 Y'ALL!!!!!! 🚨 THIS IS A MUST READ!!!!!!!!🚨

Where do I even start?! The action? YES! The romance?! YES!! The heart-wrenching-feel-it-in-my-gut-need-to-nonstop-read drama?!?! YESS! YES TO IT ALL!! 🤩

Listen up y'all, you already know I don't write many reviews, so when I do... It's freakin' worth it! This book!!! IS FREAKIN' WORTH IT!!

What started as a casual read quickly turned into a 𝓬𝓪𝓷'𝓽𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓹𝔀𝓸𝓷'𝓽𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓹𝔀𝓲𝓵𝓵𝓷𝓸𝓽𝓹𝓾𝓽𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼𝓫𝓸𝓸𝓴𝓭𝓸𝔀𝓷𝓾𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓵𝓭𝓸𝓷𝓮 kinda vibe as soon as I hit chapter 12! I think my family was concerned about the lack of sleep and overall limited time away from this book I had but #noragrets

𝑰 𝑮𝑰𝑮𝑮𝑳𝑬𝑫, 𝑰 𝑮𝑨𝑺𝑷𝑬𝑫, 𝑰 𝑺𝑸𝑼𝑬𝑨𝑳𝑬𝑫, 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝑰𝑵 𝑺𝑯𝑨𝑴𝑩𝑳𝑬𝑺, 𝑰 𝑪𝑹𝑰𝑬𝑫, 𝑰 𝑳𝑶𝑽𝑬𝑫! This book made me feel the feels! Like other reviews mention, I kept wanting to know what would happen next and was fully enveloped into the story.

Burning Ember does an excellent job at building a world that is fantastical and sucks the reader right in! You'll fall in love with the characters and the slice-of-life moments and natural, authentic, and raw reactions from characters that make this book stand out from anything else I've ever read. It feels so real and mature and constantly kept me on my toes while subtly hinting at real word societal issues. This thought-provoking read is one I will mourn for a whiiiiile.

Burning Ember certainly has it's classic YA moments that I'm thirsting for (I'm looking at you Will and Chris 👀) while keeping me hooked on non-cliché twists and completely unique and original turns filled with layers upon layers of the story! I also loved playing detective while tying to piece parts of the mystery myself - I'm not always being correct but I ✨𝓁𝒾𝓋𝑒✨ for the guessing game. Seriously had me so shook and having to pick my jaw up from the floor several times!

It's worth the re-read as I keep being surprised at discovering new things as the genius that is Jocelyn Chen weaves into her writing! Truly a delightful story and amazing piece of writing! 👏

P.S. (っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ WILL!!!!! 💳💥💳💥💥💳💥💥💥

An absolutely AMAZING read. This got me back into reading after like 5 years of having not read except for school. The story was really interesting, gripping me from the start. Loved the characters, and the ending had me tearing up so many times. High recommend you give it a read!
