With the God of Death out for his life, Jax has a choice to make, and it’s time for the brothers to face each other…
Nimon, The God of Death, has named Jax and all who follow him ‘Apostate’ decreeing their death and has dispatched his Dark Legion, the Imperial Legion’s antithesis, to see the job done once and for all.
Hundreds march on the Great Tower, the seat of Jax’s power and home to his resurgent Empire. Unbeknownst to Nimon, Jax and the vast majority of his people are far out to sea, aboard ships that are only partially operational, and the enemy's forces are drawing closer to his home by the hour.
Jax must choose... Protect the refugees and risk the Dark Legion reaching his home first, or take a far smaller force and intercept the threat head on. Can Jax risk it all on a single roll of the dice?
What Jax doesn’t know is that he’s not the only one of Imperial Blood to have skin in the game. It’s time for the brothers to finally meet on the field of battle…
This is Book 5 of the UnderVerse Series. Please Note: As with all my books, this story is a Dark Fantasy, filled with violence, sexual references, swearing and bad jokes, but no Harems...
“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. I am simply saying that I liked it. I would like you to read it and make your own decision. After all, you are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
I will happily discuss the book with you on Goodreads if you are so inclined. As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
You sick bastard. Making an amazing book that I can’t put down . Jokes aside, Man keep up the great work! Can’t wait for more of Jax especially finally being reunited with Tommy . Ready for them to tear shit up together
The series just gets better. The story is evolving, character play too. I love that it’s a longer book, especially as I’m used to space operas, so it’s still short Jez.
Still a great series with interesting characters and fun motivations as well as a good mix of action, 'village building' and other parts.
I also like how the 'sexy bits' are usually at the end of a chapter in, so in audiobook format you can just go 'skip' to the next chapter start if you don't want to read erotica. I do still want to see what would happen if Oracle reminded Jax of her not technically being female and took on a male form for awhile, if he'd still be head over heels for her or not. Unless Wisps do have genders and it's just never been mentioned but as I remembered they don't.
Besides all the great fun times and interesting read with some series climaxes being finally reached in this book, there are some loose ends still that are annoying.
Like, that Brain damaged large boy who is following the construction golems the 'shiny' ones from the battleship. They said they'd heal him but never hear anything about him again for this whole book. Since he got his own chapters in previous books, figured he'd at least get mentioned in this one or healed.
Second, they got to reclaim waystations and do so except when Jax does his own thing at way station 3? I think. And ends up never claiming that station and going back home. They clear it but never actually claim it!
Third His goddess says she can't help but since the other god did something she can give a small amount of help and a hint. Says it's super important and don't forget Jax, check the Constellation of secrets. He's like, I got time on the ship from place to place, I'll do it then. Then proceeds to forget about it and never do it the whole book! He has plenty of time on the ship too, spends hours just sitting and staring at the scenery.
Fourth! Later he holds the oath for everyone and he sends a priest, some criminals and a lady who didn't swear the oath to the tower for him to deal with. He deals with the priest and criminals but he rushes right off and never talks to the Lady about why she didn't swear the oath. Is she still sitting in the tower waiting for Jax to come talk to her!?
Just a few little things like this and others I might have missed, loose ends or Jax 'forgetting' but comes off more like the author forgot some of the parts he written in a previous writing sessions.
My hopes is that the author re-reads his own series and makes notes of every cliff hanger or loose end on a list and makes sure to tie them up or make remarks about them in the next book or books.
Hope to see more fun times , like the gnomes of the south reacting to the return of their god in future books. Though I'll wait for audiobook because that narrator is doing a bang on job of this series.
Loved the earthly references and sayings that Jax makes to people in the underVerse, from the killer rabbits to superhero landings. He's getting more powerful and improving his leadership, but still being the point of the spear and getting severely jacked up time and again, yet escapes death by the narrowest of margins. I found the story to be creative and well written. I also enjoyed the increased chapters that were not solely focused on Jax as the previous books had few scenes away from the MC. This wider perspective adds to the intrigue and worldbuilding that helps to make the characters and events feel more realistic. Chapters away from the MC also allowed me to shift focus which was an opportunity to mentally regroup and refresh as well as provide perspective on other characters and situations that would interact and progress the story. All told this is an engaging and well thought out work which l have enjoyed thoroughly, staying up late a few nights to read. So far, there is only one book remaining (at this time) and I'm looking forward to the next and possibly future installments.
This installment of Underverse series starts to gather all the various threads and plots that were created throughout the series. Masterfully done. There are only a couple minor plots left to bring into the fold. Caijiao is one of the best authors in litrpg. He paints a picture with words, He doesn't shy away from touching on sensitive subjects, but he doesn't throw them in your face either. Massive battles, duels, magic, crafting love, sex, drugs, and rock and roll are all included. without any taking the story over. This book and series has it all. Can't recommend his books enough.
Honestly I don’t review books often. So much of what is released on this platform are fun little reads that get you through a few hours MAYBE, but they should really just be on someone’s blog for free. This series is not that. This writer knows how to write. For one the length. His books are long enough that you really get a chance to be immersed in the story and the emotions! Secondly the story itself will keep you drawn in from start to finish! With all the awesome elements of litrpg we love! Give it a try!!! One of the absolute best series I’ve read yet!
It's taken us 5 books but the clash between the death god and the coaltion of Gods and other races led by Jax has finally happened and it's EPIC ( Yes it needed Capitals) as Jax meets Tommy and then ... but it's not as good as when ..... happened and I want book 6 like now. So kinda 6 stars but i had to take 1 away for not having book 6 ready after leaving us with such an ending.
I devoured this book and cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is looking to carry on the story of Jax!
This book ties up a number of plot threads, which is satisfying, whilst also introducing a few more key players. I especially enjoyed the elements of base building in the tower, but the final battle scene is my favourite to date.
I have not been able to stop reading ( thus have not stopped long enough to offer reveues ... sorry ... NOT )
The storyline is so flipping TIGHT ... Characters keep getting more defined ... Catheterization FANTASTIC ... Depth of plot tantalizing and truly hard to stop reading ...
This SERIES is as good if not BETTER then most anything I have read ( in a half decade of reading )
Excellent action, scintillating humour and amazing characters. This book, in line with the rest of the series is too notch. Highly recommended. Can’t wait for the next instalment
Excellent action, scintillating dialogue with lashings of humour and amazing characters. This book, in line with the rest of the series is too notch. Highly recommended. Can’t wait for the next instalment
I am so happy that I picked up the first book in this series. I was hooked from the first and now the next one can't come fast enough. I can always judge a book about how it progresses, if it Peters out or just keeps getting better. The fifth book in the series was all I expected and more.
I enjoyed the first four books, but this one was a slog. There are a ton or errors, and MC ends every fight in the same condition. The social interactions are very slanted and awkward and there are sections that could be removed entirely. I am very disappointed and this might be the last of the series that I read.
For some reason I only read 3/4 of the first book in this series and months later came back and started it again. I’m so glad I did, thrilling storyline, on the edge of your seat stuff. Series like this make you stick with an author through all books he/she writes bravo 👏 100% would recommend %.
Everything I want to say would be a spoiler, so I will just say this book is Breyer than the last and the quality of writing only seems to get better. Absolutely hooked. Great story!!
Finally the reason why Jax travelled is fulfilled. Lots of power levelling, strange and fearsome creatures and enemies, brilliant fighting sequences and major progress along multiple quests. Can’t wait for the next one. More please
Another amazing instalment in the series, fast paced but full of details nuances . Really enjoying the character development over the series and the fleshing out of the main story line .
First half was kinda slapped together. And way too much time spent on sex scenes that seemed to be starting to beer towards a harem novel. But got better as went along to a stronger (if predictable) finish
Weve been waiting for the reunion since book 1, the building suspense and the curiosity and the payoff was worth it! Man what a story! Cant wait for book 6 and the brothers taking on the world! So many things I'm dying to explore next book hopefully!
The big storyline that led to this is done and the brothers are together. It was somewhat anticlimactic in how it happened. This installment is uneven at times but still worth a read
Really enjoyed this book in the series. I like how in blend humor into the story while keeping attention on the plot. The fight scenes do not run for 20 pages and the the story arc progresses nicely. On to the next book
Well I like the end of this one. Was a good stopping point. No big cliffhanger, Yes still more to come, but no big tease. Just one more book published, then have to wait for next.
This book did not impress me with the way the characters are going for the plot or storyline. I’ll try reading one more book in the series and if it doesn’t improve will stop.
This story just keeps getting better and better. Jax keeps pulling out miracles out his ass. Loved the reunion with his brother. Beautifully written. But but but where’s Bane?
Loved this fifth book in this series and am eagerly awaiting the next book. There was alot of ground covered in this book and it moved the story along nicely.
