She Stirred my blood like no one ever hasShe stole my breath with just a lookHer touch made me feel as though i'd die if i never felt her touch againShe was my obsession my love my lifeBut i was already married to anotherAnd she was forbidden
This book showed me how fucked women were back then. They either were schemers or angels. Did a man write this book. The jarl has sex with everything while his true love remained a virgin. Again and again jealous women scheme d to be with this "jarl" . I soon got tired of the trope and stopped reading to write this review. There is no reason to read this book. Even the sex scenes suck.
To say this was bad would be a gross understatement. I knew this was going to be mess from chapter one. Gunner is celebrating a wedding dancing with his wife, when the wife of his late best friend arrives. She asks Gunner if her stepdaughter can stay with them. Gunner says yes and then we meet Kali. The stepmother is a full-blown racist and spews some of the most outlandish and gross words to Kali. It literally made me so uncomfortable. Anyway, OUT OF NO WHERE, Gunner is questioning whether he loved his wife at all. Mind you, no conversation has taken place between Gunner and Kali for him to have these strong feelings yet. All of a sudden, he is only with his wife out of convenience and their relationship is painted as superficial. He then plots to get Kali to stay with him to get closer to her (full on mistress mode activated). If Gunners gross behavior wasn't bad enough, the wife is now black mailing him to please her so she can become pregnant or she'll tell the clan things so they turn on him, the best friend (Kali's stepmother) is obsessed with Gunner, the stepmother is also blackmailing one of Gunners men, and Gunner gets another chic pregnant because he's so sad and lonely. This was pure insta lust and chaos. No plot, rhyme or reason to this book and DEFINATELY doesn't need to be 3oo+ pages.
I rarely leave reviews, but nonsense. The "H" was stupid and a hypocrite. We sees someone for minutes and is ready to forget his marriage of 12 years?! When he was just saying how wonderful his wife was?! How comtinues to f@#$ his wife as she blackmails him?! I got to 31% then had to jump to the end...don't waste your time. Was suppose to be in the 10th century or so, but spoke like the 21st century. Don't get me started on the grammatical error...my God...capital letters are needed to start a sentence!
Editing, editing, editing. Interesting concept for the book but so poorly edited and proofed it was hard to read. I also found Gunnar a complete contradiction. He was so forceful with Kari and demanding that she be in a relationship with him but completely weak willed when it came to his wife. He didn’t act like a Jarl (leader) in any way. The story was too long and drawn out.
This was a very interesting historical that I really enjoyed. I always love a good coming story especially if it's IR. I'm this story we have Gunnar and Kali who definitely have their work cut out for them to get to their happy ending. There are quite a few twists and turns that'll keep you reading just to find out more revelations. If you like IR historicals definitely give this try.
I usually read reviews before purchasing books and this book had a couple of negative reviews. I am happy that I bought this book anyway! Gunner in my opinion, started off as a mw, but he definitely improved throughout the book! One thing about him was that he truly loved Kali! Yes, he made mistakes, but you could see he growth throughout the book! I loved it, and would give it more stars if I could! Thanks, Ms. Lynn for this book! Good job of writing!
The way some readers gave this book low ratings due to grammatical errors would have you believing it was that bad of a read. It wasn't. As FICTIONAL stories this book had its moments of unbelievable occasions, but it was still a pretty decent read. I will say the author could use a good editor but it wasn't as bad as some stated. Gunnar was a but gullible at times but gained some wisdom after the first wife. He learned what to look for. I enjoyed the read
Great. Wonderful. Horrifying. Keep you on the edge and can’t stop reading….good! Loved this book. I was very angry with Gunnar over his trist with Nima and the hurt it caused Kali. I was also confused with how Nima’s baby bump was bigger than Kali’s when she was pregnant first. It seemed that most of the women in Gunnar’s pack where evil…especially his former wife….and Eira, Magnus’ wife.
I'm not going lie, this was a hard book to get through. Not because of grammar or I didn't understand the writing. No, far from that. It was totally do the characters and their actions and /or lack there of. .....I won't spoil the book, but I will say that this book doesn't shy away from true Viking marriages and relationships. Nor the violence of that Era. Just saying.
I thought it was a good book. The stars rating did not allow me to put in 4.5 stars. There were several typos throughout the story. I had to reread to keep my focus. Overall I thought it was good. I loved the characters, especially Gunner and Kali. The evil characters kept it interesting. The lovemaking 🌶️🔥🙌🏽👏🏽 (my oh my), danger, mystery adventure and twist/turns. Very captivating book. ❤️ Can’t wait to read the next book.
This would be watchable as a TV show but the story is lack as far as romance. First of all cheating is a complete turn off in romance novel. We can think that the hero is a jerk or a ass hole but not a cheating jerk. The cheating would have been fine for a night time drama but not a romance novel.
I just could not read nor enjoy this book, there were too many grammatical errors. The run on sentences, periods in the midst of a dialog along with no capital letters to begin sentences kept me editing not reading.
I love Viking romance. But the way the “author” portrayed the Viking king, or whatever, was so … unrealistic. It’s was just childish drama transitioning childishly into more childish drama.
I had to wash my brain immediately with something else. That God it was free.
I did not want this to end. I absolutely loved reading this story and wanted more! I loved the characters and storyline so much. Kali endured so much at the hands of Eira. Thankfully Gunner and she made it through so many heartaches. This was truly one fantastic read. 🥰💜💜💜💜💜🥰🔥🔥
This book is definitely different from anything i’ve read. I liked it. Definitely alot of crazy women in here for sure. I wasn’t impressed with the Jarl’s behavior but i liked the setting of the story. Also, was glad she reunited with her father.
Well to start I love you book and to think I was ready to kill him then I just could not stop reading then I was like what not again just to want to cry at the and still I want more I wish these book had a part 2 what happens with her further... please tell me
This has been so lovely to find a story that is about a black woman and it was a historical romance. They are very rare to find when it comes to finding women of color in historical romances in Europe. I'm glad to read this book.
This story was like wow! It's a must read and an addition you your collection. I really enjoyed it. The only thing is I couldn't figure out their ages...lol..
It has been a while since I’ve read a historical romance. This book has the action, suspense, and romance. I loved that Gunner fought to get his love back.
Good story line, great characters, though, they were lacking some depth. Especially within the Viking era! Also,,, exciting,,,, really, really, really needs help!
I can usually look over many things, but the constant editing issues was just too much to ignore. This is going to be a no for me until there is a rewrite.
