Invasion #3

Invasion: Frontline

Rate this book
The battle for Britain rages…

As the fighting sweeps across northern England, Eddie Novak and his friends break all the rules and infiltrate enemy lines to help a desperate comrade reach home and reunite with his young family.

But the once peaceful village has been plagued by criminals and collaborators, men of violence who maim and kill and take whatever they want. Including children.

Now Eddie and the boys must embark on a dangerous rescue mission and journey deep into the heart of a hostile city. Getting there will be hard enough, but if they want to get out alive they’re going to need a miracle.

Elsewhere, in a brutal caliphate prison, Bertie Payne is facing his worst nightmare – death by crucifixion. As the day of his public execution nears, Bertie’s hopes fade. Escape is impossible. Yet in war, nothing is certain.

As the pressure builds, nerves are tested to the limit. A coup in Baghdad threatens to unleash a global nuclear exchange. Harry Beecham has become an unwitting target for a rogue enemy faction, and Governor Spencer has seen the writing on the wall…and it terrifies her.

Every day brings more uncertainty, fear, and death.

On both sides of the frontline, lives hang by the barest of threads.

After devouring the first two novels, I quickly grabbed for this book by D.C. Alden. Another strong political/military thriller continues the tense moments that filled the series to date. This is political thriller territory at full throttle. Britain teeters on the brink and there are those who have their eye on major change. However, no one is going to let loose the reins without a fight. D.C. Alden delivers a gripping piece that works well with its previous novels.

With a push for Britain to rise up and take back what was lost years ago, Eddie Novak and other soldiers work together to target the core of the powerful Caliphate, hoping to return to their families and rebuild. There is, however, much death and destruction that must be overcome. There will never be a return to the past, but this could be a nudge for Britain to regain a foothold. Eddie and his team are behind enemy lines on a mission as dangerous as it is important. One wrong move could prove deadly--literally. All the while, Bertie Payne has been found guilty and is sentenced to death by crucifixion, the go-to for Caliphate laws that have been violated. The date inches forward and Bertie is almost at his last breath, with hopes of a miracle. Deposed UK PM Harry Beecham hopes that the surge can pave the way to his return, though the current leader, ruthless Governor Spencer will not go willingly. Everyone is hanging on by a thread, one that is sure to snap soon. Alden delivers a great third novel in the series.

What makes this instalment on point is the pace and determination to find change. Short chapters once more keep the momentum on point as the narrative has an urgent transformation. Alden ensures each situation is given oxygen to the story's underlying themes, with ongoing danger. The depiction of the vignettes and soon come together shows tension and darkness that is essential for the reader to understand the severity of it all.

Alden delivers a handful of strong characters once more, all of whom push the story along. There is so much going on in a scrambled nature, each with their own centralised sentiments. The reader can feel in control of all that is going on and must choose which characters deserve their attention. Developments help provide flavouring that ensures nothing is left on the wayside, as things get a little clearer, pitting good and evil against one another, to the death.

The plot never stales, as Alden ensures twists arrive with little notice and no time to ponder. Just when you think you understand, a surprise expands events again and pushes things to the brink. The chase feels essential for success, but there are many plausible aspects that could turn things on a dime. Reality sets in at key moments and the reader can only wonder if and when this might actually occur. With a finale to come, I cannot wait to see what D.C. Alden has for all involved.

This is a gritty thriller that delivers everything that can be asked if it. It leaves you eager for the next book and left to wonder where D. C. Alden intends on taking it. I am readfy to see what's to come!

Kudos, Mr. Alden, for keeping the tension right where it needs to be!

Without A Doubt, One Of My Favorite Series...
Another great book by DC Alden! The Invasion series is a well-thought-out, and well-written series with great characters, lots of action, drama, and pathos. Very realistic scenario (sadly) and kept me reading through to the end (I started and finished within three days) Kept me glued to the pages - Loved it!

Liberate

This book picked up where the previous one left off and was very action packed. America is helping England reclaim there homeland inch by inch, city by city plus it follows a group of four soldiers on a mission to rescue one of the soldiers daughter along with various other happenings.

If you've read the previous books than this one is a must read, see how the tides of war can change, with just a few decisions, emotional and practical.

Sit back, enjoy the action, and good reading.

Great Trilogy

Having completed all three books, I really enjoyed the series. The authors background as a soldier and police officer add weight to his descriptions and characters. The plot has many interesting twists and turns and one gets to know and care about the characters. A great read well deserving of five stars. I look forward to reading more from this exciting author.

This volume represents approximately 50%-75% of what is a long novel split into 4. It picks up where the previous one left on, more or less continuing the plot threads from there. It's fast-paced, over the top goodies v baddies with heroes against pantomime villains. As you can guess from the score, it's also very entertaining. On to #4 to continue the story.

Top Read

It’s been a very enjoyable series and looking forward to the next book. Maybe it’s a bit Ott but it’s fiction and a very good read. Great action and characters and the bad guys are bad and good guys are usually good. Highly recommended.

Gripping continuation of the saga. Dropped right back in with the familiar characters and breath taking story telling. Twists and turns, rollercoaster of relief mixed with sadness. First rate again. Can't wait for more!
