Engagements: An M/M Straight to Gay Erotic Short

Rate this book
What happens when your controlling mother wants to meet your boyfriend who, by the way, doesn’t exist? You get down on your knees and beg your friend to help a guy out, obviously.

Jace needs a date to his sister’s engagement party. After telling his mother that yes, he does indeed have a boyfriend, he needs to show up with a plus one!

Only — he doesn’t have a boyfriend! He goes to his absolutely hunky friend, Theo, hoping that with enough begging, he’ll be able to keep his cover and get his mother off his back.

Theo is straight — but Jace doesn’t need gay, he just needs someone to hold his hand and call him babe. It’s one night, what’s the worst that could happen? Finding themselves in a closet, pressed up against one another where natural dilemmas will arise? Surely not.

Engagements is a 10,000+ word erotic short featuring faking dates, closet shenanigans, mild exhibitionism, a first time gay experience, and explicit MM sex scenes.

Roman Wilde writes by day and by night — well, he’s also writing. On those days when he’s not writing contemporary steamy gay erotica, he’s usually found hiking through the woods or curling up with a good book to read.

I could have kept reading this for hours.

Like everything by this author, it's short, erotic and hints at romance but only focuses on a moment between characters rather than their whole story. Having now read 12 of this author's 15 individual stories (there are 2 books that are collections of these shorts in their library of 17 titles), I'm used to how they write and still not tired of it. I would quite possibly lose my mind if they gave us a full-length romance and I would be overjoyed if they revisited and expanded upon any of the stories that I've read, BUT if short form is their preference then they do it very well. These stories often hint at more for the characters, but they're not cliffhangers more just happy for now endings.

All of that said, this story has some of the most complete backstory and buildup that I've seen from the author. We get details about Jason’s ex, his family, how he became friends with Theo and how they come to be pretending to be boyfriends at the engagement party for Jason’s sister. There's some real depth put into this one in a short amount of words before we get into the erotic elements and that really kind of makes me want more depth and detail to end this one because it was so close to being a more complete story. But, at the party, Jason and Theo hide from Jason’s mom in a closet which leads to things derailing from romance to erotica in the most delightful way and I just can't be mad at it. Others may fault it for that and I don't blame them, but I just love what we have here.
