i used the whole weekend reading this instead of studying for my finals that start tomorrow but it was so worth it. yk i haven't even watched the anime yet but i will as soon as my finals are over. (edit: i just finished it and i loved it) this was soooo cute and precious and i'm overwhelmed by the pure love langa and reki have for each other. so definitely recommend reading even if you haven't watched the anime. it wasn't confusing or anything and i don't think this had any spoilers. so good <33 i want this from reki's perspective too but a bit shorter maybe

Although it's not technically a book, this may be the single greatest piece of fiction that I've ever read. They incredible degree of description in this specifically regarding langas feelings toward Reki paints such a beautiful depiction of their relationship. Even Langas heartbreak over Miguel is palpable. I would truly recommend everyone read this even of you have never watched Sk8.

I thought the actual kissing was going to be a whole misunderstanding, as in Reki would ask Langa to teach him to kiss, and Langa would later actually plant one on him, and Reki would be like, "Dude...I thought you were just gonna explain how it works???" But NOPE. Reki be doing THAT.

Love the kissing scenes.

Bit longer than it needs to be, but it's lowkey Midnight Sun vibes. LOTS of internal meltdowns all the way through. (This started wearing on my nerves after about 130K.)
I just wish we could get a bit more happy pining or horny pining or any other sort of pining besides sad and desperate.

Unfortunately, this is one of those stories where the main character cannot even look at the crush without turning red, sweating, wanting to cry, and/or acting like a crazy person, and how do they get anything done at all? Get a hold of yourself, man. I feel like, when your crush is your best friend, there are still moments of levity. Things can be fun. Not everything is romantic.
And of course, this leads to a lot of repetition in the story. It feels like every five seconds Langa is talking about how he's sweating profusely, and he's all flushed. But then there's also VERY REPEATED mentions of Reki and his bandaids and the nail polish on his hands.
I think that with a good editor to knock down the word count a bit and fix all those "god, god" and "oh, oh" and "and, and, and" uses.

Also, the other characters-- Joe, Cherry, Shadow, Miya-- are severely underutilized. Scratch that, they aren't utilized at all. I think there was one Joe mention and like two Shadow mentions. Like, COME ON, you have such a great cast RIGHT THERE.

Nah there's dense and then there's DENSE. These dudes barely try concealing their feelings and don't catch on to any of it.

Also this is way too horny to not be horny. Dude will give the horniest monologue and end it with wanting to "snuggle up together, humming contentedly." Like, ma'am. I know you're trying to keep this PG-13 for some reason, but come ON.

Nah got way too dramatic and drawn out.

After all that, and Langa didn't even give Reki all those gifts he bought him!

But there was a LOT of cuteness. The first kiss, the carnival date, falling asleep on the train, Langa reading out his confession letter, and much more.

I couldn't stop being bothered by cultural and linguistic inconsistencies/errors. Just little details that knocked me out of the Japanese setting and felt heavily American.

Overall, I enjoyed the first half quite a bit, but had to drag myself through the last half, determined to see the end.

i mean, this actually canon because they are in love, but i'm a little disappointed that it started sooo well and then it became so repetitive, i felt that i was reading the same thing over and over again. i also didn't like that much the way the author described and handle their mental illnesses/anxiety/panic attacks (i know they are different for everyone, but still, they were so vain and inaccurate for me).

besides, am i the only one that felt they didn't talk, like at all? they just "oh... uh... man" and that's it. also, reki was so incredibly awkward (he actually is, but here ??? he's an extrovert but he didn't talk in complete phrases?)
