There's Something about Scarlett

Rate this book
Three years of marriage, then they’ll go their separate ways…

Scarlett Mercer dreams of starting her own publishing company. But with no way to finance university, she might be stuck working in her aunt’s café indefinitely.

When a chance encounter leads her to an extreme solution, she’s desperate enough to go through with it. Even if it means marrying a guy she’s only just met.

What she doesn’t factor into her plans is how easily she gets overwhelmed. Soon, she’s struggling to navigate university life while living with a guy she barely knows.

Meanwhile, Fraser Graham is trying to figure out what it is about Scarlett that mesmerised him so much that he agreed to marry her.

When he realises what it is that makes her so different to anyone he’s ever met, the revelation leaves him reeling …

Will Scarlett manage to fulfil her dreams? And as sparks begin to fly, will their marriage end up being more than just convenient?

While this is the eighth book in the Hope Cove series it can also be enjoyed as a standalone novel.

A fitting end to a lovely, well paced, varied, series (No Spoilers!).

I’ve just binged the 8 Hove Cope books in less than a week. The characters, and their stories, have been lovingly created. It has been a pleasure to share their individual and interlinked journeys.

I particularly liked that it was not all sweetness and light. The difficulties, fears and misunderstandings added to the reality of the stories: challenges of new parenthood; balancing careers against ambitions; words said, meaning one thing to the speaker - but taken very differently, by the listener.

I also liked the mini crossovers, where incidents in one narrative were included in a subsequent book, from a different perspective.

All the stories were page turners - reading light often being switched off in the early hours of the morning after “just one more chapter” (or five).

However, Scarlett’s roller coaster ride was my favourite story and a really good way to draw our time in Hope Cove, to a close. I certainly learned from her story and am sure many other readers will have more awareness of the day to day challenges - and misconceptions - affecting people in similar situations.

My Favorite Read of 2021

This book breathes hope for every parent of an autistic child. I have loved Scarlett's character from the get-go. I read a lot, but don't normally tell people about what I'm reading. I haven't shut up about this book since I started it. Hannah Ellis has cemented herself as one of my favorite authors. I have devoured her books as soon as they are released. If you haven't read the rest of the Hope Cove series - dive in. I also highly recommend the Loch Lannick series and the Friends Like These series. She is such an amazing storyteller, and I always feel like I know her characters intimately.

That was EPIC! Totally EPIC!

This was a story about a "different" but brilliant young woman overcoming great adversity and achieving her goals with the help of her friends and one new friend in particular.

I loved everything about this book. Only one little suggestion for the author, is for Hannah to learn about "Person First" when talking about people with autism and/or disability.

Read the Hope Cove series in the correct order because the continuity of the story is worth the effort to get it right.

WoW I'm sad it's over. I hope we get another story from this series. It would even make an awesome TV show.

So far the BEST book I have readt his year

I do read a lot of books but rarely write a review. This my 42nd book of 2022. I also binge read the Hope Cove series in the last 7 days. As a teacher of 33 years I come across Autism spectrum students quite often and found the portrayal of Scarlett completely believable. Also the treatment of her by the other characters was well handled - both good and bad. I thought it was going to be developed much earlier in the series but I'm glad she got a whole book.

Guess its off to Loch Lannick

I was really drawn to Scarlet’s character in the previous books so was great to see her have her own story. It felt an honour to get to know her better. We know from earlier that she doesn’t get on with her parents and she has a quirky personality of which we discover more about that which I applaud the author for highlighting.

Fraser, I have to say I was with Lizzie on this one. He is the same age as Scarlet and has been a bit of a player but he is one of those pretty boys that you can’t help but be drawn to. He is very different to Scarlet but the way he wants to look after her was so sweet. I kept falling a bit more in love with him the further into the story I got.

I love how self sufficient Scarlett is. She wants to make her own way in the world and she knows what she wants. This can be hard at times as she thinks differently to many of us so has to work a lot harder for her dreams. I think a lot of people could learn from her ethics. Seeing the pair start to fall for each other was so endearing and I didn’t want to reach the end.

There’s Something About Scarlet is probably my favourite book in this series, it is also the last one. I’m not sure if the author intends on returning to Hope Cove at some point in the future but I’m really hoping so. It’s full of heartwarming moments and is a positive and uplifting read. I can’t recommend this series highly enough, I have enjoyed every one of the books in it and am sad to be leaving these characters behind.

every book in Hope Cove is my favourite!

Oh gosh! This has honestly been an amazingly lovely, upsetting, beautiful, interesting, heart warming and funny book. I couldn’t put it down. As an avid Hope Cove reader (must be about the 15th time I’ve read the series) my favourite back ground character was Scarlett and I was so excited when I found out she was going to have her own book, it’s got absolutely everything in it. I laugh, cried, felt sad and so happy. Honestly, Hannah Ellis is an absolute dream of an author! I’ve read these books so many times and I always love every single book just as much as the first time I read them. Absolutely stunning book. I want to give Scarlett such a hug (one she probably wouldn’t appreciate) honestly, I could write forever and a day about how much I love this book. Fabulous!

Scarlett can't go to university unless she gets a student loan, but she doesn't qualify . . . unless of course, she gets married. When Fraser Graham sees her on the student preview day, he is drawn to her - enough that he volunteers to marry her just so she can get her student loan. But that means being married to someone both of them have just met - and staying married for three years. And as they get to know each other, there are ups, downs, and a definite learning curve for both of them as they navigate becoming friends, and maybe even more.

I liked this book, and I wanted to love it - especially because Scarlett reminded me of my high functioning Autistic daughter, but the writing was just not good. It felt like surface writing, and I struggled to push myself through the story.

I loved how this book was executed.

The balance between the sweet cute moments and challenges was perfect. I almost dnf'd when Bridget came into the story because I thought she'd be a bigger problem but I should have trusted my baby Fraser to know he wouldn't do that to me or Scarlett.(also love love love that the author didn't go that possible owd route I would have hated it)

Fraser was absolutely amazing, the way he was so loyal and patient was so freaking endearing and his unyielding support for her was everything.
Scarlett was so strong and determined I absolutely adored her. She's such a smart and cute character.

I enjoyed their pace at which their relationship developed.
Scarletts friendships were also adorable to witness.

Just brilliant

I love how Hannah takes you on a journey and brings a place alive in your minds eye. The Hope Cove series has been great and made me visit the real hope cove which is just as beautiful as I thought it would be. Scarlett's story made me laugh out loud and cry both sad and happy tears. I really hope that we get to check in to the characters in hope cove again sometime.

SUCH FUN

I really like following the characters of this cute town. It was so interesting to learn more about Autism. I am an older reader, either they didn’t have it when I was young or they didn’t know how to diagnose it. I met a gentleman one day that could rattle of people’s license plate when he say them! So fascinating! Thank you Hannah for giving us more insight on this subject.

What a wonderful series of books. I was completely hooked and loved all of the characters. Scarlett's story had me mesmerized, laughter, hope, fear and tears, I loved it. Being the mother of a disadvantaged son who has many mental health problems, I could resonate with a lot of Scarlett's story.
Thank you Hannah.

I honestly absolutely adored this book, as a self diagnosed autistic female I fully recognised a lot of myself in Scarlett and how she felt at multiple points in the book really resonated with me. It genuinely made me so emotional at some points in the book, and I think it’s a book that will stick with me for a long time. It feels much more than a romance book.

I have loved this series. Stayed with it for all 8 books. But the last one about scarlett , was the one I enjoyed the most. Until I read this, it highlighted the real struggle people with autism have. It was a very emotional story.
