Eclipsing the Storm

Rate this book
Five years after defecting, Eclipse was slowly putting together a life she could finally be proud of. Her job as war strategist wasn’t exactly what she expected, but Joey always warned her that would be the case. She spent most of her time doing everyone else's job and keeping her mouth shut. People even seemed to tolerate her more and if they didn’t, Antilles set them straight. Their friendship had withstood more than anyone expected in the beginning, and Eclipse somehow knew he would always have her back. Nothing could wreck the solid foundation she had tirelessly built in Central Liberty, unless her past randomly washed up and ruined everything.

Another great story in this saga!

There are so many unpredictable twists in this story that it has me on the edge of my seat trying waiting to see what’s next. The back stories are filling out and then there’s a huge surprise that I didn’t see coming at all. I love this story and can’t wait to read the fourth book!

This author has a good style, a good way with language and a good way of showing characters' feelings. The main character has a problem with her brothers - she cannot possibly know how much they love her. The writer has an intense world and shares all the details. I found the plot a little hard to follow, so I'd recommend you read the first two first - I didn't, and just had to figure stuff out as I went along. No problem, though, if the others are as good as this one, you'll like them all.

Better than the previous two

Now they usually say that the 3rd instalment in a series is never as great as the first but I must say this an exception to the rule. The first two books were great but this far surpasses them. The first 10 chapters in particular are a wild thrill wide of action and violent fights scenes. The beginning we see Eclipse 2 years on from the battle in book 2. Everything is reasonably great for Eclipse until Central Liberty’s dam breaks again. The very same one that caused the death of all her Emilys and almost cost her life. When Eclipse, Antilles and some of their soldiers get to the dam to search for survivors they come across a group of Logans from Chrosia. Once all are safe there is an intense stand off until the Logans discover it is better to agree to Eclipse and Antilles’s demands to come back to Central Liberty as ‘guests’. What makes it awkward though is that Eclipse’s brothers are in the group so she decides to disguise her self for now. They’re not long back at Central Liberty when they hear that Victor and 50000 of his soldiers are heading to Central Liberty to capture it and take back his Logans. But the Logans have other ideas. They know that it was Victor who tried killing them so they have a motivation to stand up against him. But when Eclipse is discovered it starts a chain of events that sees Victor’s best man, Logan try kill Eclipse only to restart her telepathic powers with disastrous and shocking results as Victor sees practically his army of 50000 men wiped out with the help of a volcano. And that is just the first 10 chapters.
The years preceding the battle we see friendships end and some blossom as Central Liberty rebuilds. The people of Central Liberty do not trust Eclipse now after she regained her powers apart from the fact that she almost single handedly saved them all. And who exactly is this mysterious Logan who once tried to kill Eclipse but they are now developing a strong relationship. The answer is found in dramatic fashion and leads to an explosive finale. This is a cleverly written book which is something I have come to expect from the author now. I cannot wait to read the 4th in the series.
