When Janika Jones started the Button Up Detective Agency, she was reluctant to get involved in matrimonial problems. However, a desperate call from a woman whose life could be in danger convinces Janika that she needs to take action, urgently. Meanwhile, Piers Pillinger wants Janika to carry out another job involving Humphrey Broxburn, the owner of a West End art gallery. Piers assures Janika that she is in no danger and she can trust Humphrey absolutely, but when she is bundled into a blacked out vehicle in the centre of London, she wonders who has been deceiving who. A major theft from the Mill Lane Garage where Rupert Forrester works makes suspicion fall on Rupert who was last to leave and should have locked up and set the alarm. But did he forget? Janika gets assistance from Toby Walton as she tries to track down the thief and put Rupert in the clear. As Janika says about Toby, “He’s not really my boyfriend.” But Abi and Alice have other ideas. Told by Janika Jones, this is the third slightly darker spin-off from the series of six Abi Button Cozy Mystery Romance books, also by Lizzie Lewis. Although mainly about Janika, she interacts with many of the main Abi Button story characters.
This didn’t work as a first-person read for me. There were a lot of awkward descriptions that would have been better presented in third-person narrative. The scenarios weren’t always tied up tight. There were several things that I thought were going to follow up with more details, but they just flat ended. Disappointing.
For a book not marketed as Christian fiction it's weirdly church/nicey nicey obsessed. Too many euphemisms for periods and the like. Either talk about it like an adult or don't.

Janika is just getting her Detective Agency set up and had several pro-bono jobs going. She has a poisoning, a car theft, an insurance fraud, and an art collector's job to work on. And only one will pay her any money, but they all will give her experience and build her reputation. Unfortunately, I am reading these stories out of order but they are very easy to follow the story line. This set of stories are an off shoot of Abi Button stories that are prominently featured in this book. I'm really enjoying both series!
This is the 3rd in the series. The main character is Janika, a detective in a small town outside of London. She is asked to help a friend in the art world figure out who painted a picture. At the same time she is working on a case of a woman who thinks her husband is trying to poison her and then she is a suspected of stealing a wrecked race car. Somehow she has to figure it all out before it's too late. Can she do it ?
The detective is working on gaining and retaining clients. She is still dealing with her past while moving on to her future. She frequently considers stories of what negative things could happen, yet she forges ahead despite her fears. In this book she learns much more art for the quest that pays well.
Another good book in this series. Janika had another job involving fine art and as usual was successful in that job and also a couple of other matters that she checked out. Look forward to the next book in this series.
Janika Jones is getting her life back on track after a difficult past and she begins by opening up a private detective agency. She is swamped with cases and has to juggle a possible poisoning while finding out about German expressionist art.
Entertaining and suspenseful but not to the point of frustration. There is a significant amount of personal thoughts of the heroine that could distract from the story but remember this is a clean, non violent and no foul language story. To me, well done
There were some interesting ideas; however, there was so much unnecessary information because Janika, as first person narrator, did not shut up about every trivial thought in her head. For the same reason, it was often quite disjointed. And again, the title has no link to the story.
Janika solves several mysteries in this 3rd book in this series. She has a quirky personality, and it is a fun read to see how she figures out the who, what, when, where, and why.
The writing is simple, and at times, the author does not do well using an extensive vocabulary, but she also seems to try to throw as many obscure words as possible into the text. The protagonist has an unbelievable level of naivety while also trying to appear worldly. This series has enormous potential to be amazing, but elementary writing and character development leave a lot to be desired.
