Forgotten World, book six in the Broken World series, continues following a group of survivors after a super-virus has decimated the human race and the dead have come back to claim it as their own...

After the longest winter of her life, Vivian is thrilled to have Ginny back at her side. But joy soon turns to shock when the group learns that not only is Hope Springs in contact with other survivors, but that the CDC is working on a vaccine. And Angus could be the last hope for the human race.

With an armed escort, the group sets out on a mission to get Angus to Atlanta. But the world proves to be more dangerous than the people of Hope Springs believed, and their lack of preparation ends in deadly results. Vivian knows they must get Angus to Atlanta if they want to save the human race, but it doesn't take long to discover that this might be the most dangerous journey they have ever made. I'm a mom of four, Air Force wife, and author of adult and young adult dystopian, post-apocalyptic, and science fiction. I love intense world building and character driven stories that feature strong female leads - as well as a side of romance - and any end of the world scenario. Zombies, aliens, a distant future where people have no clue how the world ended in the first place, you name it, I will create a story there!

Having lived in a lot of different places after more than a decade as an Air Force wife, I love setting my books in cities I've actually lived in to give them authenticity. I've resided in: Indiana, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, California, and Oklahoma but am currently back in my home state of Ohio where I live with my husband, four kids, two dogs, and three cats.

When I'm not writing, you can find me by my pool (in the summer), getting lost in some binge-worthy show or at a play with my husband, patronizing one of the great restaurants in my small town of Troy, Ohio with my family, or traveling. I want to see everything and make a point of visiting a new place every year!

Some of my favorite books are The Hunger Games, Pride and Prejudice, The Host, and The Stand. My favorite movies are Aliens, Jaws, Signs, Say Anything, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and The Greatest Showman.

I had a fantastic time with this book. This is the sixth book in the Broken World series which really does need to be read in order. While there is a seventh book in the series, this book really wrapped up the main story. I feel like I have been on quite the adventure with Vivian and the rest of the book and I really wanted to see things work out for them. This was one of those books that was almost impossible to put down.

This book is told from Vivan's point of view. At the start of this book, the group is ready to start their trip to Atlanta. The CDC is up and running and the key to the cure that they are working on might just be Angus. The man in charge of the trip thinks that everything should be a piece of cake but Vivian, Axl, Angus and the rest of the group know that thing may not go as planned.

This was an emotional and exciting story. This story broke my heart and gave me hope, sometimes at the same time. There are a few scenes with some pretty intense action when I wasn't sure if our group would make it. When things did go wrong and a couple of characters were lost, I felt it. There were some pretty hard losses in this one. There were also some really great moments when characters put themselves in harm's way in order to protect someone else.

One of the biggest strengths of this book is the characters. I love how this group has grown both individually and together over the course of the series. Even the characters that are put in the story to test the group are incredibly well done. All of the emotions that this group goes through felt very real. They aren't perfect and they do make mistakes but they are always there for each other when it really matters.

I would highly recommend this series to fans of post-apocalyptic stories. I had a great time cheering this group on when things were going well and feeling crushed with them when they weren't. I have become a huge fan of Kate L. Mary and look forward to reading more of her work just as soon as I can.

Initial Thoughts
This was great! There were some pretty tough losses and a lot of excitement in this installment. It has been wonderful watching the characters grow over the course of the series and saying goodbye to some of them was really hard. This really wrapped things up nicely. There is another book in the series which I am eager to start but it looks like it is about a character that was separated from the larger group.

5 ' ugly sobbing because heart-breaking' stars !!

Wow ... just .... wow ! I don't think I've cried , flat out sobbed , this much ever since I read God-Shaped hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo .. And they are very different books with very different endings mind you . Let me make this clear . Its not the end that I've cried over . Although yes , the ending did leave me wanting more , so much more . I cried while I was at the 30-40% , then I cried , no wait , I ugly cried with snot running down from my nose , at the 63% mark . I was a mess for an hour , not being able to push pass that mark because I don't know .. maybe it was me just being a tad emotional today or what but I just couldn't control my tears . Even now as I sit here typing this review , I think that bit and my eyes well up , and my nose flare up with that tingly sensation that is my tell that I'm gonna cry a river ..

This series has consumed my life for the past few weeks . I was looking for something different to read , tired of all the contemporary romances . What I didn't know at that point was that I'd find something so riveting , that I was gonna lose myself within this world Kate L Mary had created . A world that only is because of Hope . A world where I'll meet characters who are going to be so dear to me . Characters whose losses would feel like my losses , characters who would make me feel a range of emotions that I would struggle to deal with .

Technically this isn't the last book in this series . But with this book we say goodbye , for now , to Vivian , Axl , Angus and the gang . Book 7 is the story of Jim and how he gets through the zombie apocalypse . And that ties up the Broken World series paving way for the Twisted World Series .

Bravo to an awesome series and to an even awesome writer !

I was listening to Strong by London Grammar while I was reading certain parts of this book .. Perfect song !

This book is a must read if you love reading about Zombies and if you are looking something different from your usual reads . Highly highly highly recommend !

It's here!! The final installment in the Broken World series!! I have such mixed feelings about this because I LOVE these characters, and I hate to see them go, but Mary managed to give us an extremely satisfying end to their journeys. (NOTE: Mary has said that, while this is the last in the series for now, she may revisit our friends sometime in the future. And she managed to wrap the story up beautifully while still leaving herself somewhere to go if she decides to head back to this world someday. It's completely win/win!!)

What I LOVED:

The heartbreak.
You didn't think we were going to see this series end without losing a few more people, did you? After all, this is the zombie apocalypse, people! And, let me tell you, there were some absolutely heartbreaking moments in this book - tears were shed (well, almost - I was in a public place and trying SO hard not to start sobbing). Part of me wanted to scream, "NOOOOO! HOW COULD YOU?" while another part wanted to cheer, "KATE L. MARY, YOU ARE A DIABOLICAL GENIUS!" So, yeah. There was that.

Journey's end.
Like I said, Mary managed to give us resolution for our characters - she definitely didn't leave us hanging. But with a series like this, you can't exactly imagine a pure HEA, right? Instead, the finale gives us a hopeful look toward the future - something that our characters have been sorely lacking up until this point, seeing as how the future was looking just as bleak as the present. But, more than anything, Mary brings us personal growth and character resolution - which is what makes this series so beautiful (while also being gritty and dark). This final book in the series is told entirely from Vivian's POV (just like the first) - and we see her complete her transformation - from a woman who felt like she had nothing and didn't see her own self-worth, to a woman with a sense of empowerment. A woman who had everything to live for, even in the darkest times.

The negatives:

Pretty much nothing.
I don't know how Mary could have given these characters a more fitting end. Seriously, it was perfect.

This was exactly the heart-stopping, painfully beautiful finale I was hoping for. If you've been waiting for the final book in the series before you picked up the first, now's the time. No more waiting!! This is perfect for fans of character-driven, gritty action (if you don't mind some adult content) - I don't know what else I can say to convince you that you need this series in your life. 5/5 stars. And this series is a definite ALL-TIME FAVORITE!

The finale to this epic zombie series. Vivian and the group have been through so much they found bits of happiness here and there and occasional safety but they have lost along the way especially people. Finding some of them again brings back the hope that things could get better especially with the news Ginny and Jon share when they find them in Hope Springs.

Is it possible that Angus could be the answer to finding vaccine for the virus? When it all comes down to it though will he even want to help the rest of humanity? And then there's the problem of getting to Atlanta they aren't just a group anymore they've become a family but they've had a lot of losses along the way and know it's possible that there could still be more if them. Plus they have to fight Dax at every turn and his group of loyal followers.

With a lot of blood sweat tears will they finally make it to Atlanta and to safety bringing hope back to humanity? And how many of them will be there at the end?

Prepare have tissues by your side as you're reading this one. It's been quite a journey and so many characters that we have come to care about I enjoyed seeing it all from start to finish and think this was a great conclusion to the series!

*cries in sadness cause this series is finished*

Survival of the fittest. Apocalyptic Romance. Heartbreaking Loss. Hope. Terror.

WOW. I seriously loved this series. I literally picked "Broken World" -Book #1- up without having read the blurb. Just looked at the cover and thought.. "Hmm ..This looks interesting". I didn't even know there was zombies. Ugh. The horror of it all. This moment is a lil bittersweet - Happy i picked "Broken World" to read and getting to know Viv, Axl, Angus and the gang but in the same moment im sad that this series has finished! I want it to carry on! I need my Axl and Angus dose!

However. I HAVE QUESTIONS!

Im not ready to let these characters go just yet.. if ever. I need more!

So - pretty satisfying ending. Angus basically stole the show. I liked that Angus became a decent guy but I had a problem with the way he went from being one type of guy to being a big ol creampuff without addressing some of his worst moments. I felt like the author just kind of gradually turned him around and it wasn't quite enough for me. If he had just been your run of the mill rude and condescending asshole it would have been fine. He was a bit worse than that though. In the first book he hit Vivian. Just popped her in the face. He was a certified redneck woman hating asshole. He changed his ways and that's great. They never addressed that hit though and it should have been addressed. As a result of this, for me it just felt like the author never intended to make him a good guy in the beginning but somewhere along the way she changed her mind.

There are a lot of characters that get killed off in this series but it still manages to have a hopeful and somewhat happy ending. I do believe that there were enough open ended storylines that the author could probably write a spin-off series or at least a few random books about side characters. I would really like to find out what happens to some of them.

This series will be hard to beat!

This entire apocalypse series was/is the best zombie story I have read. And I have read many of them. All of the characters are believable, well liked, but also missed as they die throughout the series. The main characters, are portrayed as strong individuals, and really stand out as special people, taking risks to save themselves as well as the rest of the group. Thank you Kate L. Mary for creating such a wonderful dystopian zombie apocalyptic series.

This was an outstanding book in the series. There was so much action and heartbreak and the author had cut out some of the more repetitive issues with the writing, so I LOVED it! I loved that all of them were struggling to make sure Angus got there and that baby Megan was safe too. This was just an outstanding book and I felt like there was a good ending here, though I hated some of the heartbreaking deaths.

It's hard saying goodbye to a group of best friends when you or they move on, and that's what I feel like I'm doing here. I have loved this series from the beginning. And what a thrilling ending to an exciting and amazing series!
The group of survivors, now otherwise lovingly referred to as "the family", heads from Colorado to Atlanta, Georgia, since they have learned that Atlanta has built a walled town like in Hope Springs, yet even more advanced. Better yet, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) is up and running and they are working on developing a vaccine to the virus that killed so many people off. They are hoping that a vaccine will be able to protect people from being in danger if bitten by zombies, and will also help insure the future of the next generation as new babies get inoculated. But it's a long journey, and as they have found out before, trouble can be around any corner.
In some ways this was a rather heartbreaking finale. There are well-loved long time characters that don't make it. I wanted so badly to peek ahead and see how it all ended, but I was also afraid to! I managed to hold off and read it all without taking that peek. There is a HEA, as far as there can be when you're reading an apocalypse story and people are left behind. So it was both sad and hopeful at the same time.
This book and this journey has been one well worth taking. I don't think I've ever done this in a review before, but I'd like to thank Kate L. Mary for the amazing ride she took us on, with these incredible characters in this Broken, Shattered, Mad, Lost, New, and Forgotten World. It has enriched me and will be remembered.

How the hell am I supposed to keep going when I feel like my insides are held together with Band-aids?
This is how I felt reading this sixth book. I'm a little burnt out from the never ending battles, both zombie and human. The forced drama with Dax was silly. It felt contrived to make the story longer and didn't seem realistic at all considering the mission they were on.

I will admit that I had a few sobs reading this one, we lose some really good people along the way and that sucks.

Also, this one ripped my heart out Come on Kate, take pity on my poor emotional soul!

It's official, I like Angus.
Angus, the asshole who hit me the first day we were together, wraps his arms around me. Hugs me. Holds me as I sob into his chest.
Also this one made me laugh!
Of course, Angus has the baby. He has a few weaknesses: dip, beer, and kids. An odd combination, but one that makes him almost lovable. Almost.

Quite A Stretch!

It is quite a Stretch for me to give this book a three. It was bad enough with Jon, then with Genny. But when it comes to what happened to Angus is pure bullshit and takes so much away from the entire series. One I might say that I was enjoying very much to this point.

Hated how Angus was handled

This was a pretty good ending to the series, but the Angus ending was done badly and seemed pretty abrupt and senseless. It had bad timing. He deserved better I thought. It appeared tacked on and unemotional. Just weird.

Ever since Vivian and the group were separated from John and Hadley/Ginny, she has hoped and wondered if they made it out alive if they were safe. When one of their own is in need of more medical attention than they are able to give them so they all head out to Hope Springs where they run into Jon and Ginny. Vivian is so happy to once again lay eyes on her friends.

After arriving at Hope Springs they learn that they have been in contact with other survivors. They learn that there are survivors at the CDC in Atlanta and after learning about Angus the CDC wants him there as quickly as possible as he could be humanity's last hope of surviving the zombie apocalypse.

Dax and his loyal group of men are assigned to get Angus to Atlanta safely. But there are a couple of problems with Dax being in charge. One he doesn’t want anyone going with them as he thinks they would just slow them down and be in the way. But Vivian, Axl, and the rest of the group will not let Angus go without them as they do not trust Dax. Dax is always smiling like he has something to hide behind that smile.

Vivian, Axl, and their group know that they will have a hard time getting to Atlanta even if Dax and his group does not. Dax has not had the experience out there fighting zombies as they have. He has been tucked away behind walls may be venturing out on a supply run or two on occasion but of course, Dax thinks he knows more than anyone else. Will they make it to Atlanta? Is Angus humanity's last hope? Can he alone save the world?

I have so loved being on this journey with Vivian, Axl, Angus, and the rest of the crew as they have made their way through this zombie-infested world just trying to survive while fighting lots and lots of zombies along the way.

I have loved getting to know all the characters, watching as the world around them changed them in different ways, and how it has affected them and seeing the person/s they have become.

I so hate to see the end of it and sorely hopes that the author sees fit to revisit this Broken World with more and more stories with our favorite characters and maybe a few new ones as well. I can’t get enough of this Broken World. Their journeys and stories seemed to get better and better with each book. There were so much action and zombie-fighting that I never once got bored. I loved each and every word. Once I picked up one of the books in the Broken World series I couldn’t lay it down until I had read the last word. I hope to one day turn on the TV and see the Broken World as a series. This would make me so happy!

I am so grateful to Kate L. Mary and a free trial of Kindle Unlimited for this opportunity to have read the Broken World series.

I highly recommend and invite anyone who likes zombies, the post-apocalyptic, and The Walking Dead to grab your copy of Forgotten World and the whole Broken World books today to begin this epic zombie-infested Broken World story!

Easily the best-written of the series so far. The emotional scenes have more punch (in my opinion) than any of the others in the books before. When we lose characters in this one, it feels more like ever before like cohesive parts of the plot, rather than "I guess it's time to thin the herd". The ending felt like it could use a few more pages or something...a little more finality. Maybe I'm just picky about endings.

I know there are other books in series/setting, and I'll get to them at some point, but since this is the initial "ending", I'll get to my more spoilery thoughts.

This is book 6 in the broken world series. I didn’t read any of these, I listened to the audiobooks for this series, and I have enjoyed it overall.
In this book, the beginning, sees the group in Hope Springs, where they discover that John and Jenny are still alive. The Hope Springs group finds out that Angus is immune and immediately start making plans to transport him to Atlanta so that he can be helpful to the CDC with a vaccine.
So our group makes plans to travel to Atlanta, I was sad that Brady decided not to go with them and stayed in his home in the gated community. I liked his character.
Vivian, Axel, Angus, John, Jenny, Lila, and Al, and Parv all start out on the journey to Atlanta, with a jerk named Dax, who the hope Springs people have assigned to lead the travel.
He is a big dumb mean spirited, nasty dude who I feel like his character was built up and built up and then his removal was sort of anti-climactic.
They go through the usual trials and tribulations of travel across the zombie infested countryside, beloved members are lost.
I still find Vivian, very annoying, some of her inner dialogue is very repetitive and stupid.
There wasn’t a whole lot of zombie action, but what there was was good.
I know there are a couple of more books featuring Jim and Angus, but the end of this book, while presenting the resolution of their journey, somehow felt still like an incomplete story.
Even with her too stupid to live and annoying, female characters, I still like the way that Kate Mary writes, and I will go on to read other series in her catalog.
All of the narrators in the books, I have listened to broken world one through six have been just superb, excellent narrators that have brought characters to life.

Tense!

🐺🌕🐺

Yup, tense is a good word for this book! Every moment thought their journey, they have to remain on high alert. It’s tough enough just surviving the zombies, but they also have to survive their companions. (Dax, I’m looking at you.) It’s a rough way to travel.

Vivian and Axl are strong in this book. I love how low the angst is in these books! Angus has become a character that I’m quote attached to, there a lots of heartbreaking and heartwarming moments involving him.

I was sad to say goodbye to some characters that I’ve gotten to know, as not everyone decides to make the trip to Atlanta. Also, beware: this is a have your tissues handy type of read. And something snuggly like a cat or a teddy bear. Also, drink all the coffee because there isn’t a single book in this series that you’ll want to put down.

I’m amazed that all these characters came out of someone’s imagination because they feel so real. Your heart will race for them as they fight to survive, you’ll cry with them during heartbreak, and you’ll celebrate their triumphs. Gotta love zombie fiction that is so much more than a horror/gore fest. This is about people when all the rules fly out the window. The good at heart and the evil.

Forgotten World (Broken World Series, Book 6) by Kate L. Mary and narrated by Hillary Huber kept my interest and makes me want more.

The group’s main focus is getting Angus to Atlanta and they hit quite a few bumps along the way. There’s a good amount of action in the second half, friendships and relationships continue to grow, the not-so-nice guy leading them to Atlanta (he wasn’t as bad as her usual villains, so I was a tad disappointed), loses, gains, and of course zombies! The story is told from Vivian’s POV, with her and Axl being the main focus, although the others come close.

The narrator, Hillary Huber, was good. Overall enjoyed it. I’d listen to her again.

I actually purchased this in error- I wanted to start from the beginning and make my way up to this one (oops!), but I was not disappointed in the long run. If you’ve listened to or read her Twisted World series, you will not have a problem starting with this one. I was able to keep up/recognize characters no problem and it’s nice to know the back stories of those I learned about in Twisted World. With that being said, I plan to start from the beginning as I feel I’ve missed a decent amount and character development (ex. when did Angus become nice/good? Where did he get bit?).

This book picks up on following the survivors on their journey and continues to draw you into the story and into the characters.
The little town of Hope Springs is surviving, but is run by Dax, a man that seems to not be very grounded in the reality of how dire surviving is and what it takes to be outside of the walled area that Hope Springs has set up for themselves.
The group finds that Angus is immune to the virus and that he is the potential hope for the CDC to come up with a vaccine. The “family” group decides to set off on a perilous cross-country trek to get Angus to the CDC in Atlanta, GA to be used by the CDC to help create a vaccine. The hope is that the vaccine will protect the survivors from the virus if bitten and to inoculate babies so that there is a hope of a future generation.
I am looking forward to future installments and seeing how the saga continues. I was very sad, and yes, cried, when some of the characters did not make it on the way from Colorado to the CDC.

Forgotten World has our group heading to Atlanta to the CDC. This journey has them all on edge for good reason.....it's bad enough to be dealing with flesh chomping Zombies, but when you add nasty good for nothing humans into the mix it makes it down right dangerous beyond words. Will everyone that left Hope Springs, Colorado make it to Atlanta.....lets just say the odds are not in their favor!

I really love this series and I believe this particular book made me cry like never before. There were several moments of both excitement and sadness that had me never wanting to put the book down. I can't give away why I was in tears, but in my opinion when a story has this big of an affect on the reader, it's a sure sign of an amazing author. When you feel the characters are more like family to you the more you read about them and their hardships. I felt like I was right there along with them, though in reality they are much braver than I am. Onto the next book in this awesome series!

Kate L Mary once again reeled me into her post apocalyptic series Broken World. In the sixth book of the series, Forgotten World we find out band of survivors out in the open once again traveling back to where it started for some, the East coast. Set on getting Angus to Atlanta, Hope Springs along with our favorite characters travel through a Forgotten World facing zombies, death and destruction at each corner. Mary brings out the best of each character along their travels. Their fear, worries and desperation are at the forefront of this riveting tale.

I can't tell you enough how much I love this series. This novel made me happy and sad all at the same time. I know I am narrowing in on the remainder of this series. There has been nothing that has captivated me like this series in a really long time. Mary's novels are filled to the brim with wonderfully written complex characters faced with extremely unordinary situations that I just couldn't love more.

Spoilery review

A final conclusion to this amazing story. However I am not convinced that you know who is truly dead. He is larger than life and the character ingratiated himself with me by the end. I have noticed that there are more stories set in this world which I will read after a break. One of the best post apocalyptic series I have ever read. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes this genre. The characters were relatable and the story lines were a roller coaster adrenaline laden adventure.

Although the first 4 books in this series were great zombie entertainment, the last 2 books lacked. And it felt like it was only with the goal ahead to start a new series, the twisted world Series.

To live side by side through four books with characters to get such a sloppy and unsatisfied ending, was not a good experience.

Exceptional (well, if you don't count the careless mistakes in the book). I have so grown to love this "family" as they strive to survive. Anyone who has gotten this far in the series knows that it is great! Don't read this book, though, unless you've read the previous books in the series. I cried. A lot! (Kate, do you need a proof-reader?)
