The Waymaker #4

The Way to Truth

Rate this book
Callum Carmichael is a simple cowboy, content to work his uncle’s cattle and raise a family and small herd of his own.

Rose Gilbert had it all until her father’s mistakes and dishonesty stole it from her. Now, all she has are the secrets she keeps from those who matter most.

Callum knew he’d marry Rose when they were just children and had nearly gotten there before she hastily broke off the engagement with no word as to why. All he knows is that the exhaustion on her face and the fear in her eyes threaten to break his heart each time he sees her, but she won’t tell him what’s wrong. But when her father’s misdeeds come to a boil and Rose is caught in the crossfire, honesty may be the only thing she has left.

The author has penned a sweet and heartwarming story and one with many human frailties including dishonesty, theft, disillusionment, a mother's near nervous breakdown, a bank robbery, a Federal Marshal, disappointment, heartache and romance. This is Callum Carmichael and Rose Gilbert's story. Callum has loved Rose since they were children and has always known he would marry her. Rose also loved Callum and they had tentatively become secretly engaged and then suddenly Rose withdrew with no explanation telling Callum she could no longer see him. Heartbroken all Callum could do was watch Rose as she went about town but began to notice she was getting thinner, almost to the point of gauntness, was pale and appeared very sad and downtrodden yet she would not reveal what was wrong. He decided he has to do something and sets out to try to discover Rose's secret with the help of his father, the town sheriff. Will Callum be able to discover Rose's secret and, if so, will he be able to help her? What part does Rose's father play in the entire situation? Will Callum and Rose have their HEA? Be sure to read this wonderful story to find out the answers. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

This is a plodding story that did not hold my interest. Although I've read other books by this author, this one is not engaging. Callum Carmichael always knew he would marry Rose Gilbert. Although she was a banker's daughter and he was a simple farmer and a small landowner, they have always known they were meant for each other.

Suddenly, Rose breaks their engagement and won't talk with Callum. She starts losing weight and looking haggard. Still, she won't tell her friends that her father lost money in an investment. He cannot make any loans (because there is no extra money in the bank) and turns Callum down when he asks for money to build a house. I thought this was a pitiful sob story from start to finish. Score = 2 stars (because I finished it). I have no intention of reading the others in this series.

The Way to Truth

Enjoyed reading Callum and Rose’s story. Rose has been responsible for her family since her mother had taken to her bed shortly after her father admitted to losing money at the bank. She struggles trying to earn enough to keep her mother and sisters fed and clothed. If the truth comes out about her pa, what will happen to her family?

A little bit of everything! Serious self sacrificing ( something that is not big in our culture today)
Good application of scripture. The need to trust God, tho you cannot see Him working in some overwhelming tragic situations. Plus it's the truth that will set us free.

What a sweet, fun book to read. This is the 2nd book in this series that I have read and I have enjoyed them both. The characters are fun to read and their storylines are engaging.

The truth will set you free.

When the banker gets involved with illegal dealings, it's his daughters who bare the brunt of his bad decisions and suffer. This historical romance brings the eldest back to her first and only love.

Not All Things Are What They Seem

When the bank Manager's daughter wants to keep her engagement a secret. Then breaks that engagement with no explanation. Things don't sit well with the man who loves her. The more he wants to find out why, the more she pushes him away.

Sweet Christian love story. The two were secretly engaged but she called it off without explanation. Give it a try.

A clean pretend historical read. Very limited plot, that was really an outline stretched way out.
