I'm glad I read this series through to the end because I got enough enjoyment from the earlier books that it at least deserved an ending of some sort. However, the later books in this series aren't nearly as good as the earlier books, and this last book might be the worst of the lot.

There are four main reasons for this:

1 - Too much of a good thing
As with so many books in this sub-genre of fantasy/sci-fi, the author doesn't know when to stop. As Adam's harem grows, each character gets less time to make an impact on the reader and we are therefore less emotionally involved with what is happening to those characters.

It's a shame because this series started so well, taking the time to introduce each person, flesh them out as a character, and give them plenty of time to interact with Adam and the story to make them important to the book and to the reader. It's why the earlier books worked. But by the time we get to this one, I'm just not attached to any of the characters anymore.

They may as well be walking, talking sex dolls for all that the impact they have on the story, and it's made all the worse because the very presence of the less developed characters means that the characters we are attached to are overshadowed and forgotten. Therefore, moments that should be a huge thing for the reader have little to no emotional impact .

2 - No more character growth
By this point in the story, all of the named characters on the good team have completed their character arcs. They are all the best versions of themselves, have made peace with their inner demons, and have nothing left to do but finish the plot. This is a major problem because characters are what we experience the story through, and when all of the character journey's have finished, it again robs the story of the impact it could have had.

Most good stories complete a lot of their main arcs at the climax of the story. It's tempting for authors to have multiple story climaxes, thinking that this would just spread out the awesome, but it's never as good as when concentrated as close together as possible.

For example, imagine what this story would have been like if Adam had not made peace with his tiger yet. He would have gone into the final battle not trusting himself completely and thinking that there is a time limit on getting this final mission done. It would have put a ticking clock on the battle to create more tension, and when that clock inevitably runs out at the worse possible moment, Adam would have been forced to have his epiphany to overcome the SAVO Queen. Imagine how much more powerful this ending could have been if Adam finally learning to accept himself for who he is and working with the tiger rather than fighting it played a major part in overcoming the vampire queen.

4 - Redemption Arc
Redemption arcs have never been a strong point for this series, which is bizarre because the author has written so many of them. Pretty much every one of Adam's wives (save for Eve and Z) had to go through a redemption arc of some kind. The thing was, none of these actually qualified as 'arcs'. Instead, these characters were always awful until one day they suddenly do a 180 and they aren't anymore.

Well, another one of those happens in this book, and it was so bad that it loses a star for this book all on its own.

Overall Verdict
Overall, this series has had more good points than bad and on the whole, I think it was worth the read. The same can't be said about this book though. For all the reasons listed above and many more not listed, this book was tedious to read and ultimately frustrating.

Its only redeeming quality is that this book doesn't taint the books that came before it. Don't get me wrong, I probably won't be reading this series again any time soon, if ever, but at least it doesn't retroactively go back and make you think that the whole series wasn't worth reading. I stand by the earlier books in this series being a good read, it's just a shame about how it ended.

Finally done with the entire series. It was a ride; it wasn't the best, but it was alright. My favorite moment from the entire series was when Adam met Madeline, and they made the submission bond. He had to deal with the fact that she had forcefully bound them against his will.

I haven't read the author's other works, but I have to say this one was pretty average, with some high moments sprinkled in between. However, I have to give him credit where credit is due. He wrote 14 books, whereas I struggle to write even one. I think that counts for something.

Great story all the way through. I knew it had to end sooner or later, I just wished he had spent more time on the storyline for this finally. It seemed like it was rushed to me. Don't get me wrong it was a decent book. However it could have been a great book had Mr. Michael Scott slowed down and made it an epic ending to the likes of which befitted the Apex Predator of Apex Predators, the King of Kings!

I won't spoil any part of this book, I think the readers should be allowed to experience it for themselves. I will simply say that this is truly a fitting finale for the King of Kings, and while I am sad to see it end, I am very happy with HOW it ended.

Sorta sorry to see this series finish, as this was the second series by this author I read after the Destroyer series.

The author did leave it open to a follow-on series so perhaps in the future the author might return to this world, perhaps following some of Adam's children.

Seems like this book is more sex than story. When it isn't sex, it is recapping each wife's story. Of course there is the long monotonous battle at the end. At least there is BBQ in the end.
