Kristy McCaffrey writes historical western romances brimming with grit and emotion, as well as romantic contemporary adventures. Her work is filled with smoldering romance, compelling heroes, determined heroines, and her trademark mysticism.
Although she holds a bachelor's and master's degree in mechanical engineering, she shifted to being a stay-at-home mom and part-time writer until her four children were grown. Now she runs her writing business full-time while enjoying the perks of being the boss, which mostly entails playing with her grandchildren whenever the opportunity arises.
Her first novel, The Wren, was a CAPA winner for Best New Author Traditional, a Texas Gold finalist, and a HOLT Medallion finalist for Best First Book. The Sparrow was a 2012 Winter Rose Winner. The Blackbird won the 2015 Laramie award for Best in Western Romance. All four books in this series were well written with well developed characters. The first book us the love story of Molly and Matt. Childhood friends from long ago, but Molly the s captured by Indians and is thought dead by family and friends. When she returns, she finds Matt who helps her find the truth behind her abduction. The second story is about Molly's friend Claire who disappears to go looking for her mother and younger brother. Milky and Matt send Matt's brother Logan to find and help Claire. They grow close as he helps her unwind her mother's past. The thread in these books is that the women all have a "sixth sense", a " gift" , either for healing or seeing truths others cannot see. The third book us where this author lost a star. Its the story of Emma and Nathan. Nathan has a dark past that has changed hum. Emma has a need for adventure and a gift of "seeing". They travel the river to and through the Grand Canyon where they are in danger not only from natural elements but supernatural, demonic spirits. Author loses me when humans turn unto spirit animals and visit the inner reaches of the earth. I was so put off by this book, that I am most didn't read the 4rh book. I'm glad I did, because it was a goid story of healing, hope and reconciliation. Tess is looking to reconcile with her father, but has to find him first. Case helps her find her father and helps her heal from past wounds. Skip the third book, but the rest are very good.
Each story grabs you and I couldn't put them down. I could picture myself living in the period in the book. Wondering what I would do and how I would do it. A perfect story draws you in and you become a part of the story too. Kristy McCaffrey stories do just that. Thank you!
This set took me a long time to get through reading. I especially disliked book three as I thought it to be nothing more than absolute nonsense. This was my first and it will be my last reading experience with this author.
