Invincible Presents: Atom Eve and Rex Splode collects Atom Eve 1-2 and Atom Eve & Rex Splode 1-3 written by Benito Cereno with art by Nate Bellegrade.
The Atom Eve miniseries further expands Atom Eve's origins that were originally revealed in Invincible. In Atom Eve & Rex Splode miniseries we get Rex's origins, their first team up, and the two becoming a couple. All of the events are set before Mark gets his superpowers and becomes Invincible.
Right away it was jarring opening the book and not seeing Ryan Ottley's art. Bellegrade does an okay job and it gets easier to look at as the story progresses. Also, the book doesn't have quite as sharp writing without Kirkman. Both Atom Eve and Rex Splode's origins were already revealed in the main Invincible series but are expanded upon here. My one big problem with this book is how much it over sexualized Atom Eve. She is supposed to 14-16 years old for most of this book. It is really kind of disgusting some of the poses she is drawn in. The comic industry really needs to do better when it comes to the portrayal of female characters, especially underaged teen superheroes.

Honestly this wasa tough score to give its definitely a 4 but i can't see this as a 6/10. Its middle of the road is mediocre. The writing itself is okay, its not terrible but it's cartoonish. In the original series government was treated as BAD GUY but more individuals with their own goals and motives. Some actions were created for the greater good which in this much less so.
Atom Eve - backstory was okay, it doesn't contradict anything but doesn't really add anything. This feels like a rushed summary of her origin instead of giving us a story. Instead we got a highlight reel
Rex Splode - much more nuance and interesting that the main series never tackled. His storyline is the only reason u should view it in all honesty.
Art : Bruh the art for Atom Eve was just straight-up bad, lacking in composition, utilisation of the medium ... It makes me appreciate how Robert and his Artists compose the series. If i call Atom story how its drawn its amateurish.

Rex Sloan had a pretty tough life growing up, but thing seemed to get better when the government "adopted" him and gave him super powers. Or maybe not!
Like the Atom Eve miniseries before this one, we get to see a more in-depth origin of Rex Splode here. We're treated to the first meeting between Rex and Eve, the beginning of their relationship and even how he got his super-hero name. If you're a reader of Invincible, you know some of this already. This series just fleshes it all out.
There are a few fun moments throughout this book that are fun, and it really does serve as a sequel of sorts to the Atom Eve volume, but it really just fills in the cracks. I would have preferred something more original, but as an Invincible fan and completist, I was compelled to read this. It really is just fan service, but this time, the characters were more true to what we've seen elsewhere.
There was definitely an improvement in Nate Bellegarde's art this time. The characters were less blocky and more defined, but his poses are still action figure awkward - meaning they often look like a toy discarded by a fitful three year-old. His art is just not really to my taste.
Overall, something I'd only recommend to a HUGE Invincible fan. Others can skip this and be none the worse for it. Really makes me want to get back to the original series.

Fun - interesting takes on two characters' origins and mythology. Forgettable tho - unless somehow this mini-universe is somehow compelling for you.

It’s been a little bit since I’ve read Invincible, but reading this and getting back into that universe reminded me again of the immense joy the series brought me. This origin series for Atom Eve and Rex Splode was shocking, violent, and heartbreaking at times, but was enjoyable overall! The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of with these issues was the art. It feels weird to see these characters not in Ryan Ottley’s amazing art!

I thought this was an interesting backstory volume for Eve and Rex, I loved learning more about them and it definitely helps to see where they came from. I really didn’t like the drawing style on this one, but the story made it worth it! Probably 3.75 rounded up.

A fun little backstory showing the origins of Eve and Rex and how they met. There was also a bit of history of the global defence agency shown as well. The book was nothing amazing and the art obviously wasn't as good as Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley's work but was still decent and a good read. Overall it was just fun to be back in the Invincible universe.
PS - I liked the little "side story" at the end with omni man too, that was a nice touch 😆

Recently re-read the invincible series and it was cool to see the backstory for these two important characters and further expand the world building of the invincible universe.

These book doesn't add much to the Invincible lore (main story plots were revealed there anyway), and is boring and uninspiring. Totally skippable.

The Invincible universe is full of depth. Atom Eve and Rex Splode Volume 1 TPB only add to the complicated stories. I feel that many people see this volume as a single type of issue instead of complimentary to Invincible (as I feel it is intended). Although Atom Eve and Rex Splode are the focus of the characters, the plot itself points forward to Omni Man and Invincible but offers an exploration of the reason Atom Eve harbors pain when mentioning Rex. If you read this volume with that in mind, it is compelling. Otherwise, the art is good, not great - good. All of the columns are aligned to the left continually making the concepts a bit bland in each panel. However, by just being related to the legendary Invincible universe, it gains points. A book that at best seems to be three-star rating still warrants four stars due to how it only fuels the fire known as Kirkman's Invincible Universe.

Based on the suggested reading order of the volumes, it was time to take this one in. Basically, it takes the key notes already given to us in the main Invincible series and expands on it. In a few cases it gives us a bit more (and necessary) context.
If you're following the GR reading order, then you know the event that likely inspires the need to put this volume here. And I agree. It's a solid placement. It's fine, but the main line volume preceding this read was AMAZING, so it had a lot to live up to.
Not mad at all I read it, though. Fans of Atom Eve or Rex Splode will appreciate it quite a bit, I'm sure.

How did Rex Splode and Atom Eve come to be??? All answers are in here! Robert Kirkman's creations are given fantastic and tragic backstories that are more connected than I would have imagined going in. The dialogue was very reminiscent of Kirkman which isn't easy to pull off. Great job by author Benito Cereno. The art was good and fitting for the Invincible Universe. Overall, I think this book is exactly what I was hoping for.

No tiene la chispa de invencible y se nota la ausencia de ryan ottley (o cory walker) al dibujo, sirve como historia de origen de estos personajes pero no veo la necesidad de sacar un tomo con este material, se podría haber recortado y publicado en la serie regular de invencible. Me parece un spin off bastante prescindible

These stories tell the origins of Atom Eve and Rex Splode, including how they met and started "dating." Both were manipulated by nefarious government forces into becoming super-powered beings (in Eve's case, since birth), and eventually fought to be on the right side of things. Not quite as good as the rest of the Invincible series, but enjoyed getting to know the origins of these two.

Spinoff of invincible. Probably I only read it cause I finished invincible and want to read all the spinoffs. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Still very good though I think it's really only deserving of 4 stars, but I gave every other invincible related comic 5 stars. So.

this is definitely cute, im happy to see an official rex backstory since we didnt get it for the show, and it was interesting to see how atom eve and rex came to be. is it a crazy backstory with amazing writing? nah, but it was cute and gimmicky

I liked Rex in these issues more than in Invincible. In here there are many layers while in Invincible is just snicker comment after snicker comment.
