Before their sudden divorce, Seth was planning to take their partner, Harry, with them to their ten-year college reunion. Now, with no date to accompany them, Seth worries that they will look pathetic when they again come face to face with their ex, and arch enemy, Megan. When Seth tells friend Julien of their worries, she offers to accompany them as a pretend romantic partner. Seth refuses at first, but later changes their mind to accept.
Megan immediately notices that Seth and Julien are not a real couple, and sets out to convince Seth to sleep with her. In response, Seth and Julien endeavor to put on a more convincing romantic act. In the midst of the charade, Seth and Julien find themselves attracted to each other, but they each hold back.
Julien wants to respect that Seth is fresh out of a divorce, whereas Seth fears Julien would never want a serious relationship. When their attractions come to the surface, they realize that their bond is worth confronting their concerns.
this is my favorite of the Ada Stone books I read the other day. They are all available on scribd as both audios and ebooks. this one is a friends to lovers who fake date to make one of their exes jealous and I was living for it. Seth is nonbinary and recently separated from their husband. they dont want to go to their college reunion alone because their ex, Megan, is a toxic bitch and they want to make sure she knows they dont need her. so Seth and their best friend Julien, come up with a plan to go together, as in together together. Except that plan falls apart when they both realize they maybe like each other a bit more than either of them realized. Highly recommend.

A cute premise but the secondhand embarrassment was a little too strong for me. I was not totally feeling the emotional shift from their friendship to a romance, maybe because Seth was still in a long-term relationship when we start the story or because they don't fit all that well together in my opinion? Definitely for those who like the more romcom type of contemporary romance.
The story was pretty good but I so often got confused by the use of they. Unconsciously it make you think their is more they one person rather then referring to just Seth. Took some getting head around.
