In need of some fun, recent divorcee, Shelby Powell, allows her best friend to whisk her away to see their all-time favorite singing group, Boys from the Block, in concert. What neither of them expects is for “bad boy” band-member Dean Walden, to show a romantic interest in Shelby.
Balancing single motherhood with her feelings for Dean, Shelby hesitates to give him her whole heart. Yet, every time they’re together, that challenge becomes more difficult to manage.
Dean Walden can have his pick of woman, so why does he want this woman-next-door fan? More importantly, how will he prove he won’t leave her brokenhearted in the aftermath of their fantasy-meets-reality romance?

This was purely fun fan fiction! Though the names were changed it was OBVIOUSLY based on a fan's love/fantasy of meeting New Kids On The Block. Only this boy bands name is Boys on the Block....and their names are David, Dean, Josh, Jake and Jared. I think I got the most fun out of finding/figuring out the "comparatives"!!!! "The Right Touch"....."Tough Enough"....."Perfect Girl"..... It was all good fun IMO. Listening to the way Shelby and Kaye talked to each other about their past love for the group, talking about their memorabilia and the funny/witty rapport they had with they guys upon meeting them was very entertaining....if you've ever "been in love" with a boy band. When Dean and Shelby hit it off and decide to try and have a relationship it was interesting to see how being in the spotlight, being on the road and previous relationships provide huge speed bumps on the road to their success. I am OBSESSED with characters relationships in stories. If I don't feel the chemistry, if I don't get witty/realistic banter then I usually do not like a book. This was filled with back-and-forth's: between Shelby and Kaye, between the band members and most importantly between Shelby and Dean. The sub-line of Kaye and David's possible relationship will definitely pay-off in book 2, which I look forward to reading! Pure fluff and pure fun for any NKOTB fan - it's cheesy at times but who wants to read "serious" books all the time?
I did enjoy this one in so far as I liked the main characters, i love a good old rock star story and the ending made me smile but i could only give it the 3 stars simply because i personally felt that the story was lacking in parts whilst in other areas there seemed to be too much irrelevant info given. For example in one part the author talks about a love letter shelby receives and I would have loved to have known what was in it, and thought that this would have added to the depth of the story, whilst in a later chapter we read all about the book shelby is reading, which seems to have no real relevance to the overall storyline??? That said it was a light hearted, easy read with some endearing characters.
You don't have to be a NKOTB - or any boyband - fan to read this or the other Forever Fan novel but it's so much fun to pick out the similarities in the characters, and the incidents and match the song titles and remember what it was like for you in your own experiences being a fan girl. I'm still a dizzy with excitement when I talk about NKOTB and I'm in my EARLY 40's!! Just ask anyone!! lol
