THE TRUTH COULD COST HER EVERYTHING.

Kate had high hopes when she moved to her husband‘s hometown, but her domestic bliss was short-lived. Blindsided by her spouse’s very public affair with his high school sweetheart and a painful divorce, Kate’s determined to hold onto custody of her kids and pull herself together. When Kate’s bashed in the head by a drone at her son’s soccer game and face-plants in the grass, it’s more than her self-esteem that’s shattered. The drone’s video reveals that someone is stalking her. And though the handsome detective she’s falling for vows to protect her, Kate knows to be wary of any man making vows.

With things spiralling out of control, she tells a lie. It was only one little lie, but a lie is a welcome mat for the devil, and with the one she told, Kate just rolled out the red carpet. Everything she worked for begins to unravel, along with her sanity. My name is Christopher Greyson, and I am a storyteller.

Since I was a little boy, I have dreamt of what mystery was around the next corner, or what quest lay over the hill. If I couldn’t find an adventure, one usually found me, and now I weave those tales into my stories. I am blessed to have written over twenty novels.

My love for tales of mystery and adventure began with my grandfather, a decorated World War I hero. I will never forget being introduced to his friend, a WWI pilot who flew across the skies at the same time as the feared, legendary Red Baron. My love of reading and storytelling eventually led me to write and it’s the best job I’ve ever had.

I love to hear from my readers. 3.0 stars— After absolutely loving “The Girl Who Lived” by Christopher Greyson, I have not read any other books by him in over a year. I saw that “One Little Lie” was available on Kindle Unlimited and decided to give the author another try. “One Little Lie” starts off very slowly as the author introduces Kate as a recently divorced mother of two who discovers she is being stalked through very unbelievable circumstances. The plot slowly plods along from there with a lot of foundation building for the first half of the novel. I easily guessed who was behind the stalking and other acts meant to humiliate Kate early on and the rest of the book just details how the person got away with what they did and the expected big showdown between characters. The dialogue was stilted at times and seemed as if it was written in a hurry. There was an unexpected twist 3/4 of the way in that I really enjoyed, but for the most part the whole novel was very predictable and implausible. I still like the style of Greyson’s writing and will give him a chance to redeem himself in the future. But this one was just “eh” for me so I am on to the next read

Kate thought she had the perfect husband, family and life until she found out out he had a mistress, his old high school girlfriend who he is now planning on marrying. Kate still has feelings for her ex-husband and his fiancee absolutely hates Kate so she tries to make her life even more miserable and Kate is just a mess, no matter how hard she tries to rise above these situations she just keeps falling down. Poor Kate! Now someone is stalking her and she already has anxiety issues and takes medication from her therapist but there is a threat of real harm from the stalker so the police are now involved even though they seem to question Kate's state of mind and motive. Every day that goes by Kate wonders "Why her?" until the night she, the police even her ex now know what is behind the stalking but is it the truth or another fabricated story that Kate has weaved into play since all the bad things happening in Kate's life right now seem to have started with One Little Lie!

I truly loved this story. Kate was an adorable mess through no fault of her own and every step forward was three steps backward in all areas of her life. A kind, attractive and intelligent woman with a wonderful sense of humour plus being a really loving, caring and terrific mom who just couldn't get a break and still nursing her wounded heart at the same time she carries on wanting to make a happy and stable home for her two children. This was a a really fun and entertaining mystery (not a thriller), it was not a cozy or dark mystery but a very satisfying story with a wild ride and great characters that I just couldn't get enough of. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Christopher Greyson. I highly recommend this book to any reader who enjoys a little humor along with some very dark and dangerous situations.

I want to thank the publisher "Greyson Media" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this unexpected and delightful book and any thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I have happily given this book a rating of 4 Entertaining and Clever 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Stars!!

Favorite Quotes:

“I told my friends about the stalker. Tommy said it’s probably an escaped prisoner they did experiments on and he went crazy, but Billy thinks he’s just a serial killer.” Ava giggled. “You can’t kill cereal. It’s not real.”

“You need the three Gs.” Donna had a colorful vocabulary, but Kate hadn’t heard this one before. “What’re the three Gs?” “A guy, a gun, or a German shepherd. Preferably all three.”

“Mark’s like an old hunting dog. He barks a lot, has a pretty gruff disposition, but he gets the job done, so you tend to overlook the fleas.” Ryan comically scratched at his neck like a dog.

The day Tammi feels bad about anything is the day Lucifer starts lacing up his ice skates.

My Review:

My first Christopher Greyson read and I cannot understand what took me so long to give him a whirl as the man can spin quite a tale. The storylines were full of angst, family drama, betrayal, grown-up mean girls, small-town pettiness, accelerating harassment, and efforts of identifying a stalker; it was busy – busy – busy and full to the brim with itchy scenarios, uncomfortable prickliness, and clever twists I had not considered.

The characters were an odd and interesting assortment of vile, treacherous, and fiendish creatures as well as flawed, struggling, and original personalities. I cared for the maladroit main character of Kate but was growing increasingly impatient at her rag doll weakness. I enthusiastically fist-pumped when she finally found her voice, and boy oh boy, did she roar once she located her misplaced backbone.

I was annoyed, engaged, irritated, ensnared, and uncomfortably wriggling on the hook and unable to put my Kindle down until unraveling all the knots. Christopher Greyson relentlessly poked and prodded my curiosity with his shrewdly paced tale; I had no idea what I was stepping into with this sly and wily wordsmith. What guile! More, please.

Her world became an avalanche of self-doubt and insecurity after watching her cheating ex-husband thrive with his mistress and feeling that the entire town was laughing at her as a mother, wife and woman. Now a stalker is shadowing her every move and Kate has no idea why and the ONE LITTLE LIE she told will make her look even more unstable.

Christopher Greyson weaves a tangle web of lies, deceit and chaos as Kate becomes embroiled in an unimaginable plot that makes her feel she is losing her mind. Only the help of an unlikely ally and a police detective stand between her and losing her children along with any sense of dignity she has left.

A solid story, definitely twisted into a suspenseful tale that will have readers second guessing themselves with every new event. For me, a slight failure to truly connect with the main character and her actions sometimes threw me out of the story, but not enough to enjoy that ending!

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Greyson Media! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Kate moved to her husband’s hometown to support him when he gets together with his former high school girlfriend leaving Kate to barely get by with their two children. When Kate gets knocked down by a drone in the park after her sons soccer game and it is discovered by the drone video that someone is stalking Kate her life becomes a nightmare. While there are no real surprises here, I really did like Kate and I found the whole story quite entertaining. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Christopher Greyson delivers again in “One Little Lie”! I enjoy his style of writing and “One Little Lie” was no exception... pure, sensible, great pace, and clean, with suspense, mystery, great characters.

Although enjoying this one, I have to say early on I knew where this was going, and how it was going to end. I was right on both accounts. Still, it was a well written, enjoyable easy read.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I rarely find a book that keeps me so hooked I can’t put it down. One Little Lie is that book. A sympathetic character. A dizzying mystery with unexpected turns. They both convinced me to give it a 5-star rating.

The Story in a Nutshell
Kate has it rough. Between a recent divorce, an awful job, and a thriving relationship between her ex and his high-school boo, it’s no wonder it seems she’s losing her mind. Add to that a creepy stalker, the threat of losing her children, and the fact that the entire town seems to turn against her.

The Best Part of One Little Lie
I loved how the author kept me guessing until the end, revealing bits of information as the story progressed, at the end all falling into place.
The characters are also a very strong point. I was particularly fond of Audrey, who was exactly what Kate needed, when she needed her the most.

…And the Bad News
I wasn’t happy with the way Kate’s interest in Ryan progressed. It seemed that all she was interested in were his muscles and his eyes–physical attributes. He was much more than that, and the author showed it. While I admit there are women out there who might ‘go crazy’ when they see some guy with a wide chest, Kate doesn’t seem the type. I would’ve wanted to see her take notice of who he is, not just how he looks.

The Characters
Other characters call Kate a doormat. They’re right–at least in the beginning. I’m all for being kind and forgiving, but Kate goes way beyond that. She lets people and life in general turn her into a punching bag. Until she doesn’t.
Luckily, characters grow, and Kate grows a lot. I wanted badly to see her succeed. This book is about much more than the mystery revolving around the stocker. It’s about learning to take control of your life and let go of the disruptive elements. Kate learns to do that, and I was delighted to see her get there.
One Little Lie has many well-developed, unique characters. From Audrey to Ryan to Tammi. Even Kate’s children feel like real kids–which made them exhausting.

Whodunit
Even from reading the blurb, you think you know who the bad guy is. The stalker, whoever he may be. But is he really responsible for everything that happens to Kate? From pornographic messages to embarrassing fliers and her car being defaced, could there be more than one bad guy? I’ve asked myself that question as I was reading.

Thank you Greyson Media and NetGalley for providing an ARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Netgalley for this e-Arc which I received in exchange for an honest review

I enjoyed this quite a bit although there were elements which did pull me out of the story. It is unusual for me to read a male author with a female protagonist as the main character. Greyson writes fairly a-typical female characteristics and this dropped it down a star. I never felt completely connected to Kate even though the story was mostly from her POV.

Having said that, I didn't see the 'twist' coming and I was kept engrossed in the story and read this in an enjoyable afternoon.

One Little Lie was a quick read and a solid mystery/thriller which I recommend.

Something just felt off to me for a big part of this book. I did a lot of starting and stopping which is unusual for me. I admit I am tired of women thinking they are losing their mind and wondering if they are doing all kinds of stupid stuff. Enough of crazy, manipulative men and weak, whiny women who finally manage to get their shit together at the end of the book.

A pacey story of a woman, Kate, whose life is unravelling. One terrible event after another befalls Kate. Her husband wants custody of their children, her husband's fiance is the popular girl in town with connections and money and she hates Kate, Kate falls out with her boss and loses her job, her mother-in-law is horrible to her. Kate is being stalked and she doesn't tell the police the truth...

With only her best friend as an ally, Kate flounders.

There's a romance in here because Kate falls for one of the detectives tasked with helping her. But even this doesn't go well because of the detective's ethics.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. At times, it felt a bit like a comedy romp because Kate lurches from one mishap to another. She's certainly not in charge of her own actions, let alone her own life, and, unfortunately, this made her a bit of a silly character for me. However, the plotting is excellent and it keeps up a fast pace, so my attention didn't waver.

A good story if you're looking for an entertaining read. It certainly kept me turning the pages. The downside for me was I couldn't remember much about the story once I'd finished it.

Action and suspense, five stars. Characterisation maybe 2.5 stars.

This is the fourth book I've read by this author, and - as with the other three - I'm glad I did. It's fast-paced, engrossing and immensely readable.

Kate is a recently divorced mother of two young children, Andy and Ava. By most accounts, including hers, her super-smooth ex-husband was emotionally abusive - particularly adept at gaslighting. He's also controlling, a trait he seems to have picked up from his mother, who lives nearby. Kate is trying to build a life back for herself and her kids - holding down a temp job she really, really hopes will be temporary. On one fateful day, she's testing a drone - a freelance assignment from a friend who wants her to write a product review.

As her bad luck would have it (and trust me, this woman has more bad luck throughout this entire book than Carter's ever had liver pills), the drone takes a header near her son's soccer field - literally; it smacks her right on the noggin. Video from the drone seems to indicate that she's got a stalker, but - worried about what the police will think of her (one hunky officer in particular) - and bolstered by her lawyer ex-husband's advice - she tells a fib that will come back to haunt her.

That ex-husband, for the record, has settled in with a former high-school sweetheart who hates Kate with all her wicked heart (a feeling that's mutual, although Kate's heart is more wishy washy than wicked). Therein comes my only complaint with the story: I'm glad it ended when it did, because I was ready to pitch Kate and her self-doubting, fence-sitting, do everything exactly the wrong way persona right in the trash can even if it meant my Kindle went with it. Hand-wringing ladies like her who can't find a backbone do add considerable angst to a story and to a degree I even sympathize - for a while. But when they just keep on saying and doing stupid things, my tolerance takes a nosedive.

Fortunately for my Kindle (and for Kate, whose very life may be on the line), the end comes just in time. I must admit I had two possible prime suspects who were behind all the nasty things that happened and both of them were dead wrong, which is a plus in my book. Of course, I can't reveal any details, but all in all I was satisfied with how everything turned out - and I'm sure other readers will agree. Good job!

Absolutlely awful. Help me find better books in Kindle Unlimited, please! The story line was so exaggerated, nothing like this could happen in real life. Yet the woman it all happened to just kept right on walking into it, complaining all the while and frequently feeling sorry for her antagonizers! I guess this was supposed to help us remember that great lesson in life - take the high road. I've read many good books that DO get that message across, but when the author tried to write it in, it was as an afterthought to the character he must have wanted to portray and the circumstances were ridiculous - not exactly where taking the high road would make any sense at all. I'm so tired of badly written books. Seems like the only author i can rely on is Stephen King. Anyone else have a problem with this book?

While a big fan of the Jack Stratton series, the story just didn’t quite hit the mark. Although his name appears briefly, it isn’t what I’d refer to as part of the series. The protagonist’s perils just seemed too far off the chart making me feel like the author was just throwing every bizarre scenario on the wall to see what would stick. Then, the climax seemed rushed with the flourish of a teaser at the end. I wanted to like it more than I did but felt the act of completing the novel to be a chore. I do look forward, however, to the next Jack Stratton book “Captain Jack” listed as coming soon.

There are certain suspense stories that make me anxious and this is one of them. When a woman filled with rejection and humiliation tells a little lie, her world comes crashing down.

Kate is lonely and bereft as she struggles to deal with the aftermath of her husband's infidelity and her divorce while raising her two kids. Her job as a receptionist sucks and she's frustrated her narcissistic ex will not spend more time with his kids. Then the day her ex decides to show up at her son's game, her bad decision to lie about the wayward drone she was testing out starts a bizarre chain of events.

Kate is certainly a mess when it comes to her hateful and nasty ex-husband. She is delusional in thinking he will come back to her because she still loves him and he fully and disgustingly takes advantage of that. No wonder she feels confused and alone. It doesn't help she has recently learned she has a stalker who is sending her lewd texts and photos and has been seen lurking outside her house. If that isn't enough, this, unfortunately, gives her slimy husband and his mean-girl fiancée Tammi an opening to fight for custody of their children. From there her life as she knows it is gone when she is attacked, her lie is found out, and she is the victim of gaslighting and deceit that leads to her arrest. But she has a friend in the form of Detective Ryan Daley who respects and believes her, as well as the unexpected support of her snobbish and condescending mother-in-law Audrey. And let's not forget her quirky and reckless friend, Donna. But it's her lovely and imaginative daughter Ava who gives her the opportunity to catch the person who is framing Kate.

Though I had a feeling who was behind the whole thing, I was nose deep in the story to find out how it all turned out. But not all things end with everything tied up in a neat little bow as the author leaves the reader with a chilling look at Kate's future.

I recommend this shrewdly written suspense thriller with relentless characters and a frustrating and enthralling plot.

Thank you to Mr. Greyson for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Mother of two, Kate Gardner, is struggling to piece her life back together in the aftermath of her recent divorce. Living in the same small town as her ex-husband and his mistress/fiancé is no small feat, especially since gossip runs rampant and most of the town’s allegiance seems to favor Kate’s number one nemesis. In a misguided attempt to avoid further humiliation, Kate tells “One Little Lie,” which quickly spirals out of control. In the process, a potential stalker is discovered, yet a suspicious light is also cast over Kate, illuminating everything that she says and does.

“One Little Lie” is an intriguing whodunit that is more “entertaining” than actually suspenseful. Right from the get-go, I was “team Kate,” rooting for this delightful, haggard woman from start to finish. Although I had my suspicions as to what was in play, it did not detract from my interest in seeing it all unfold. There were some “eye rolling” moments, especially as it pertained to certain secondary characters, but I chose to look past those and to allow myself to simply enjoy the ride. That said, “One Little Lie” is a quick and easy read, a perfect addition to anyone’s summer reading list!

Kate Gardner is still recovering from her divorce. Mother of two -- Andy and Ava -- who is suffering from dealing with an ex who flaunts his relationship with the woman who broke up their marriage and experiencing some weird moments that have her questioning her sanity.

When it looks like she is being stalked by someone, incidents of harassment and bullying intensify. The police are trying to help her, but soon the evidence begins to point in her direction. Thank goodness she has the counsel of her former mother-in-law, Audrey, who steals -- in my opinion -- a couple scenes.

I figured out who was behind it early in the book, and that is a big reason ONE LITTLE LIE is getting only 4 stars. The lengths the perpetrator was willing to go to were horrible and definitely supplied the suspense and more than a couple moments where I wondered just how far this was going to go. (Till death, obviously.)

I received an eARC from the author through NetGalley, for which I thank them. All opinions are mine.

This book seemed like it had such a good potential. There was so much build up but the climax and after that just wasn’t that great. It kinda brushed over a lot of details in the end which I think would have made it a 5 star. Even some parts in the beginning and end where boring. It didn’t go much into the investigation or had any intense parts.

Read my full review on Rosepoint Publishing.

Kate is a mess. She’s carrying major baggage and not doing well with it. Her attorney husband broke up the marriage to go live with a mistress and now wants the kids. Her sister’s death haunts her. Her finances are in ruin and her resume is woefully short. Now she has a stalker.

What else could go wrong?! Unfortunately, she tells one little lie—she’s too embarrassed to admit a little accident was of her making. Now she can’t go back and tell the police she lied, right? Fortunately, she does find an ally in one of the detectives.

She is beginning to have nightmares, sleepwalking, loss of memories—or are they just being manipulated?

I just couldn’t muster up the engagement in Kate. She always seemed a bit unreal to me. I enjoyed the character of Donna, although at one point she, too, fell short of expectation. The charismatic detective is a great support character.

The author presents a twisted tale of lies and how they can escalate. It works as entertainment, but I wouldn’t classify as a cozy mystery or women sleuths. The reader knows, or certainly suspects, the perp all along and in the conclusion the big reveal adds an extra little zinger whose motive just didn’t work for me. 3.5 stars

FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary review copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. These are my honest thoughts.

Kate is a recently divorced mother of two. Her ex-husband’s affair with his high school girlfriend has left her shattered, but she is determined to retain custody of her children and move on. As she works to regain control of her life, she realizes that someone is stalking her. Afraid and confused, Kate watches her world unravel, while all the time questioning her sanity.

One Little Lie is a suspenseful novel that is compelling, interesting, and hard to put down. While Kate is guilty of not standing up for herself, the transformations that take place, once she decides to stop being a punching bag, are what make the story even more enjoyable. Christopher Greyson has developed an interesting cast of characters that add dimension to the story and the twists are unexpected. As the suspense was building I found myself rooting for Kate and her unexpected cheerleader, who turned out to be one of my favorite characters.

All in all, I recommend One Little Lie. It’s a great read!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

highly recommend this book!!

What was supposed to be a side gig turns horribly wrong for Kate Gardner. When the drone that she’s product testing falls on top of her, a mortified Kate doesn’t admit to its ownership. That lie spirals once the drone footage shows someone stalking her. As the stalker escalates, one police detective is skeptical and the other sympathetic. Doesn’t hurt that the detective is a hottie! Kate’s ex and his girlfriend…his high school sweetheart…seem to enjoy manipulating and tormenting Kate. Kate’s ex MIL is aloof but I found myself liking her take-no-prisoners attitude…and I especially liked that she gave Kate the, metaphorical, kick in the pants to stop being a doormat and fight for her life! Good story and the ending leaves you wanting more!

Always love Christopher Grayson stories. The only thing I was not so happy with was the chapters were so long. Maybe they should have been divided into twos or something. The storyline did keep me coming back. It made me think is she going crazy or was she really doing these things? Was somebody really messing with her mind? In the end I thought maybe it could have been four or five people but never thought that her husband was the main one involved. I thought he might have been involved somewhat but Tammy was involved too. Never thought she was a victim too! It kept me turning the pages. I really enjoyed it as always can't wait for the next adventure.

I knew I wasn't going to like this one by the end of chapter 1. I have to learn to just not finish them instead of powering to end the as fast as possible. Lots of cliches. Initially it felt like a romance book-chubby, recently divorced, no self-esteem, ex husband cheated on her with the hot girl, she meets hot police officer. I thought it the husband was going to realize his mistake in the end and try to get her back, but she already moved on, types of books, but I was wrong about that. Then the author threw in the does she have a stalker or is she crazy theme, additionally, so that kept it almost interesting except that you pretty much know who is behind it.

Maybe 2.75 Just no

Nobody has that much bad luck. Lead character written as a ditzy, simpering, helpless female. Started off as believable and sympathy inducing character that soon devolved. Then it just drug on and on, painfully. The conclusion was great, just took too long to get there. Blatant lead in for a sequel. The plot was engaging. My guess would be that Greyson's outline was overly long and became 2 novels instead of 1, explaining the excessive filler. Having read and loved the Jack Stratton series, I expect the sequel for this book will be a knock out hit.

Another great book by Christopher Greyson. I loved his series of Detective Jack Stratton books. This one kept me interested the whole way through. Just like his other books it has elements of mystery, romance, a touch of comedy and a bit of a thriller mixed all together. He also does this without adding a bunch of profanity and unnecessary sex like so many present day authors seem compelled to do. I know in the real world this is out there and in the right text I have no problem with it. I just think it takes away from the story when you are bombarded with it.

Good mystery

I enjoyed this book. It's the first book by Christopher Greyson that I've read but I look forward to reading others.
This story line is very interesting and and the plot is not easy to solve. I didn't want to stop reading!
The only problem I have is I don't really think the title is the best title for this book, it's full of lies and deceptions. There are more than one lie and there are more twists and turns than imaginable. The story really keeps the reader engaged. I was glad when I got to the end so I could breathe again!

I had high expectations of this book after loving The Girl Who Lived by Greyson. This one, however, was just far less interesting.
The plot dragged on, with several repetitive thoughts and unnecessary events and details throughout.
I was also highly unsatisfied with the ending — halfway through, I thought I had figured it out, and while the ending was not what I expected, it seemed far too easy and unexciting.
While I may give Greyson another chance in the future, One Little Lie is merely ok.

I FOUND KATE VERY UNLIKABLE SHE IS JUST AS HER BFF SAID, A DOORMAT. I'M AT 29% AND I'M STILL NOT LIKING HER, SHES AS DUMB AS PEOPLE ARE SAYING. SHE IS NOT TAKING HER SITUATION VERY SERIOUSLY. SHE MAKES ME SO ANGRY, SUCH A SPINELESS WUSS. I JUST WANTED TO SHAKE HER. I FIGURED OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON EARLY ON. SIGH.
I LOVE THIS AUTHOR BUT THIS WASN'T AS GOOD AS ALL HIS OTHER BOOKS (I've read a whole lot of them) AND I WON'T STOP READING HIM. I THINK IT WAS THE LEAD CHARACTER SHE'S VERY UNLIKABLE. CHUCKLE. ;D
